The BEST Chinese food I've ever had. I didn't eat Chinese food for probably 10 years when my friends all wanted to go this place. I went reluctantly and to my surprise was obsessed. I started trying a few other places but nothing compares. The sweet and sour chicken is by far my favorite. The general tso is a close favorite. The dumplings and spring rolls and bubble pano cake are great apps. I'm usually not a spring roll fan but theirs are delicious. Definitely give it a try. Oh and reasonable prices. read more

BY FAR the best Chinese food in Williamsburg. Food-wise it's probably the best overall restaurant I've experienced in Williamsburg. The price is very reasonable for the ambiance and quality of the food. I had been to the Peter Chang's in Richmond before, so was expecting solid food. I got just that, and the atmosphere is a notch above. I came here on a Sunday night and the restaurant was about half full. There's a ton of space and the ambiance is casual, yet elegant- ideal for a nice date. Still, I noticed a few single patrons eating at a table to themselves, which to me is further evidence that the food is top notch. My dining companion and I were both in the mood for spicy, and boy did we get some HEAT. He had the Kung Pao Chicken and I had the Chicken Hot Iron Plate (#34) which came with a variety of peppers and onions. We both thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and food. I had hot tea and was served an entire pot for only $1.25. I'll also note that they offer white and brown rice and do not upcharge for ordering the latter. My reason for not giving the place 5 stars is that the service didn't match the awesomeness of the food and atmosphere. While attentive in the beginning, our server never refilled our waters and did not check back in on us until we were ready for the bill. She was nice enough, but seemed to lack energy and didn't try to engage us in conversation. Also, we both had enough food for takeout and instead of boxing up the food for us, we had to do it ourselves. Aside from the friendly and charming host, the other waitstaff seemed similarly blasé. We came here for our Babymoon on a snowy post-Valentine's Day Saturday night. We were greeted by a friendly host and were seated right away. The waitress was attentive and offered good advice about the menu. Lots of couples and large groups of William & Mary law school students were scattered all over the restaurant chatting about their professors and peers. The restaurant had a very open, modern and retro-fitted feel. This location has only been open about a year and 1 month at the time of this review. Parking was easy to find even though the restaurant seemed very full. There was a healthy amount of Chinese patrons which is also a nice sign of things to come. We heard such good things about certain dishes that we ended up having to ease off our dinner order. We started with the scallion pancakes (which were huge!) and the crispy pork belly (which has a kick and is very flavorful). The Szechuan spices were just what the doctor ordered for my cold. The soup dumplings were next on the table. They were delicious! If you've never eaten/imbibed them before, be sure to ask the server about the process so you don't end up spilling it on yourself. Basically, dip, place on spoon, take small bite, drink immediately from the area you bit into and then you can eat the dumpling. The soup and ginger was perfect for my sore throat. So far, the appetizers are right on...even though we didn't finish everything. We have to leave room for the main dishes right? Time to loosen the belt a notch or three! Main dishes=Jing Jiang Duck & Whole Boneless Tilapia in sweet and sour sauce. The duck was served similar to Peking duck with pancakes and hoisin sauce. The duck was a little bit salty for our tastes but flavorful. The cucumber slices helped to add some balance. The tilapia was delicious but watch out for the bones underneath! We could barely finish our meal between 2.5 people. However, I did polish off the tilapia and my wife worked on the duck. We both rolled up our sleeves (and loosened our belts some more) and took care of the dumplings and scallion pancakes. The only thing we wish we had more of was...more room to eat more! 4 stars because we had to drive from Alexandria to Williamsburg, Va. Final bill including a hot tea, $1 for brown rice and a Tsing Tao = $73 after tax and before tip. If our hotel had a fridge and microwave, we might have taken some home. We look forward to coming back OR the grand opening of a restaurant in DC! As we were leaving, we overheard a table of college students singing a rough falsetto version of Alicia Key's "This Girl is on Fire" but had replaced the lyrics with "My Mouth is on Fire!!!" Very poor home delivery meal. We had shrimp fried rice and either pork or chicken fried rice with extra meat, not sure which I got. It was bland and tasteless. We threw away the leftovers and I had stomach distress the next day. Very disappointing based on reviews and recommendations from neighbors. Don't think we will be back. Very authentic Chinese. Surprisingly good. Space is large and very comfortable. What made us decide to go is that they actually have Chinese dish names in the menu. Our food is delivered very quickly. We ordered: Steamed soup buns: not the best I have had, but decent Beef brisket noodle: mildly spicy, very good, recommended Sautéed diced chicken w. Not sure where to begin, whether it is the awful food, the horrendous and outdated decor, or the mismanaged table service team. While Peter Chang is well known to lead high-quality restaurants, I doubt he would appreciate his name being attached to this one. The food was very overly salted, but otherwise tasteless. When we attended, there were approximately 30 people dining there, however we were spread out among three separate dining areas which made the entire restaurant feel empty. Many tables around us sat unbussed, despite wait and buss staff sitting on chairs playing with their phones. The manager in charge seemed to have no control over his staff. On a positive note, the chicken lettuce wraps were good. Also, when we returned a dish that was inedible, we were not charged. Visited a few weeks back. Me and my sis, were going to Busch Gardens for Howl-O-Scream. Figured this was my chance to try this place out while in the area. We ordered the Scallion bubble pancakes, Szechuan Bang Bang shrimp, Pan fried noodles combination and Szechuan Double cooked beef. In all it was great, though I did not care for the shrimp as it over sauced or the curry sauce that came with the pancakes. Also those pancakes are huge! My favorite was the beef. I ordered 3 items on Saturday, August 25th, 2018. The Braised Beef I selected on online ordering incorrect. I ordered the non-hot version specifically via radio button selection and it was on my order confirmation as well. I received the numbing hot version - It was very oily and full of tough, difficult to chew fats. The oil level was too much. Even though I didn't order the hot version and received it by mistake I would be okay, but the flavor was mostly oil - most likely from the fats, and the beef was mostly tough white oily fats. The Lo Mein we ordered had a pleasant taste, although all of the noodles were stuck together and the noodles could not be separated even with two metal forks. The taste was acceptable though, but we could not seperate 80% of the noodles. The only loose noodles were on the edge. The center seemed to be bonded together and tore the noodles when attempting to separate portions out. The Crispy Pork Belly was not crispy and although some pieces were okay with flavor, other pieces seemed to be of an older batch that we had to separate and did not finish those pieces. The entire tray was lacking the flavor I'm familiar with when ordering this item. I've had tasty food from here before, but I don't understand how they get it so wrong at lunchtime on Saturday. For $40 I would have expected a better quality. I don't expect perfection, but it was disappointing enough to stop eating and post a review for awareness. I really looked forward to ordering from the Williamsburg Peter Chang on a regular basis, but unfortunately will have to temporarily cross this restaurant off our family dining list. I hope I can return in the future and Management takes the proper measures to ensure the quality of the food at any time of day. Especially on Saturday afternoons. Also, I typically don't double-check my order, but it would be a good idea if you cannot eat spicy food or absolutely have to have a correct order for. Typical, Typical Chinese food. I can not see how this place won all the awards. If anything, they act like their $het don't stink. The guy behind the counter completely ignored us. Wobbly tables, burned out light bulbs, flys. Maybe in it ha day, it was nice. They're now just trying to ride the coat tails of awards given to a guy who is no where to be found. All you're typical inspired USA invented recipes- orange chicken, General Tso chicken. But don't ask for a fortune cookie. They turn their noise up. Spring rolls were virtually empty; hot and sour soup was disappointing; chicken with mushrooms had no taste; General Tso's Chicken tasted like they had taken breaded chicken pieces and dipped them in some orange colored sauce. A couple years ago, we happen to be there for the opening night. We returned this past weekend...Because our son goes to college there. This past weekend, we went twice. We had the Tea smoked duck, braised fish, braised seafood, chicken and ginkgo soup, the spare rib and mushroom soup, fried pork belly, garlic spinach, lamb chops, scallion pancakes, grandma beef with wooden ear fungus... WOW! Their pot set fire all over my body. But it was really tasty. This place is good for winter. They have many spicy Chinese dishes. The staffs are friendly. The waiter is pretty nice. The hostess wearing very short shorts was chatting with a male staff all the time, which looks weird. Pricing is ok. Simple soups are only 2USD. I didn't like their sour soup though. I was super excited to come here because I haven't seen soup dumplings on a menu since NYC and my heart and stomach were so happy! Peter Changs did NOT disappoint! We had a nice meal here tonight. Caitlin's service was great. The only issue we had was the surly greeter at the front door. He was an Asian man, black glasses, sneakers. He never smiled, offered no greeting, and turned his back to us when we departed. He should look for another line of work. After all what does it cost to smile and be pleasant? The food here, today, was good - not great. The portion sizes are generous and the prices reasonable. All the "normal" dishes are represented. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. I started with hot and sour soup which was both hot and sour. There was plenty of vegetation and egg(?) in the broth. I enjoyed it. The spring roll was small but tasty. I wish they didn't bring all the spring rolls on one plate as I dislike having to share my dipping (duck?) sauce. I had Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce (my wife is going to love me when I get home). Spicy it was, with lots of what looked like slices of fresh jalapeno peppers. Served over plain white rice (fried rice is the other option) it was very filling. Finally! A an old-fashioned and traditional Chinese restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg Virginia. Place is very clean and there are plenty of seating. Decor is traditional but not over the top. There are plenty of servers so the service was good and fast. We got our food very quickly. Now the review of the food: Overall, very good and savory. I recommend the spicy garlic sauce eggplant, combination fried rice, general Tso's chicken, pan fried chicken and mushroom with scallion. Their food is way better than the take out Chinese place. Definitely will come back here again. I like this place so much I cannot wait to go to another Peter Chang restaurant the next time I am in Charlottesville VA. Usually I am picky about how my lo mein was cooked but oh my! This lo mein was super delicious. There was so much flavor and such a large portion of noodles which I get very picky about because a lot of places try to lower the noodle portioning in exchange for veggies and meat. This was the perfect portioning! My friends ordered the orange chicken and they said it was great but it was super spicy. We're glad we got an extra rice because for some reason the chicken was very very hot. You wouldn't expect the spice coming out of orange chicken. The fried rice was very delicious. My only complaint would be the wonton soup, for some reason, the wontons felt like they weren't cooked. The wontons were super soft and slimy. There wasn't much filling. The scallion pancakes were new to me! I'm used to scallion pancakes being flat and with a lot of onion but these pancakes didn't have much filling and was huge and chunky. It was crunchy but hard to cut off! I kind of enjoyed it but other people had mixed reviews on it. If I ever pass by Williamsburg again and am looking for Chinese food, I'll definitely try to get the lo mein again. read more

We had the spicy seafood pot - it came with a generous portion of fish, shrimp, scallops, squid & an abundance of button & abalone mushrooms. The mushrooms were delectably coated in the spicy sauce & particularly good (as these mushrooms by themselves aren't known to be exceptionally flavorful). Be cautioned though, the chilli bits that came with it- the green ones are rather hot, though the red ones were really bell peppers. All in all- a great dish to go with plain rice! The fried pork belly was a winner to us- so crispy & not oily at all- so you didn't feel so bad eating it, although I did think I was munching on delicious bacon minus the salt content haha! The peppercorns, cilantro, scallions imparted nice aromas to the dish, & though we did think that the dish could've used Just a tad more salt. But it was a really good dish I'd recommend! This is the best Asian food I have ever eaten!! By a long shot. If you like spicy food this is the place!! I've never left a restaurant looking forward to the next chance to eat here!! We went for Chinese New Year dinner tonight 1/25/20. While price was reasonable, the quality was very disappointing for such highly rated restaurant. Rice was undercooked!!! (At a Chinese restaurant!!). I told the manager and the server, no action was taken and didn't offer to take back the fried rice and white rice we ordered. We ordered the soup dumplings appetizers, the dumplings were dried. We ordered sweet and sour shrimps and green beans/eggplants casseroles (both were not marked as spicy) but they were indeed spicy....and my kids couldn't eat much at all. We also ordered the steamed whole flounder, Chinese new year special, and that fish turned out to be cold and over steamed as the dish had been sitting out for at least 30 minutes. Overall experience was very disappointing and our complain was not being acknowledged by the manager. Poor customer service!!! read more

Peter Chang's is so freaking good. It is really authentic Szechuan style food. We started off with the scallion pancakes which were good. I think the curry lol dipping sauce it is served with could be better. We also got the spicy wontons and crispy pork belly which were both delicious. For our entrees we had golden mountain beef and pan fired noodles. The service is good nothing to complain about. I have been to my fair share of Chinese restaurant and if they are really good it always comes with a price. The price to pay at Peter Chang's is the bathroom. It is kinda gross but the food is so good it makes up for it. It is by far the best Chinese in Williamsburg and they offer student discounts. read more

The waitress was awesome, however the timing of the kitchen, was not. Ordered 2 entrees and 1 came out then 6 minutes later the other came out. By the time we both had our food, the first order was cold. Other tables had the same issue. We ended up taking it to go so we could heat it up. read more
