The store is categorized into dog, cat, birds, and small animals. There are giant fancy circular signs hanging down from the ceiling that tell you which part you're in! So look up if you're lost! Fish are all along the left side wall and there's such a huge variety of fish here compared to other petsmarts! In the back, there's an extra fancy pet hotel with a hotel-like check in desk. The doggie day care and training camp is right next to it. There are windows there for you to watch as your little pal learns the works! Near the front, is the grooming center, also with windows for you to make sure your furry friend isn't getting the wrong makeover. There's even a giant scale by the grooming center for your four legged friend to see how fat he may have gotten under your care! Next to the grooming center is the check in for the pet hospital. There seems to be two DVM's that work there. Good to know! And last but not least, the adoption center is located on the other side near the fish. There are windows there as well to see which pet needs a home. The store is very well staffed, I saw at least two employees in every pet section, if not one in almost every aisle. And all the shelves are very well stocked with supplies and brands. If there's ever a store for you to count on to be in stock with something, it's this one. The registers have free little dog treats there too, so don't forget to grab one on your way out!

While shopping, I asked one of the cashiers (I believe her name was Jessica) if she could provide the restroom passcode. She told me she would send someone right away. I waited over 10 minutes, and no one ever came to assist. After finishing my purchase, I asked again and was told that the restroom is only for customers. That response was frustrating, considering I had just spent a significant amount of money in the store. I even asked, half seriously, how much I needed to spend to actually be considered a "customer," since no one had helped me. It's not really about the restroom itself it's about basic customer service and follow through. Being told someone will help and then being completely ignored is unacceptable. Very disappointing experience. If this is how customers are treated, it really makes you question the level of care and attention given overall.

The bettas looked malnourished and miserable. I continued to look at the other fish in the store and their tanks filthy. The glass was covered in algae and debris. The only tanks you could clearly see through were the ones that contained pelcos and other algae eaters. By the goldfish, the pebbles that covered the ground had a thick layer of debris and what I assume to be their waste. Their tanks were especially dirty, brown spots covered majority of the tank. The bettas sold here are very inbred as it is, making them weak, but this lack of care or compassion is insane. Also the cleaning rolling cart was left unattended with an open razor blade sitting on the lowest shelf. I understand that this location might be understaffed, but the associate working was speaking to another worker saying, "I will eventually clean the bettas today, if not I will try to get to it tomorrow." The bettas I saw didn't look like they would last much longer. Not to mention (what I assume is the new shipment of bettas) left unattended in the fish section along with the razor blade. This is disgusting. Genuinely. Please get your location under control. This is just depressing. Do better.

I was a bit concerned at first because I thought she would be overwhelmed with too many pets to bath and groom. She let me know that she had a lot of cancellations because of the weather. That eased my mind some. I didn't want her to rush through and give my puppy a bad haircut. It had been a while since he was cut (he'd only had a puppy cut) so I needed her to be extra careful in cutting his hair down low, like I wanted. Also, he was so nervous and anxious, he whined the entire time I was checking him in. This added to my level of anxiety as well. Well, when I picked up my puppy, I was amazed at how well he looked. He no longer looked scruffy. His cut was amazing!! I was so happy with his look. Nikia did exactly what I asked. I made sure to give her a good tip that day. I don't live in Houston but if I'm ever here on an extended vacation again in the future, and my dog needs to be groomed, I'll be sure to request Nikia at Petco. She did an excellent job! And my puppy was happy when he saw me. He even pranced around. I think he knew he looked good - even on a rainy day!

I reached out to Sparkling Pets after my aunt recommended them, saying they did well with her doodle. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely upsetting. When the groomer returned my dog, he was actively bleeding from his ear. His face and coat were smeared with blood. The groomer told me it happened while brushing and claimed the bleeding would stop and then start again. She also admitted she couldn't get it to stop. I would assume a professional groomer would have the proper supplies on hand to handle situations like this. Instead, I had to apply cornstarch myself to stop the bleeding. Accidents can happen, but the way this was handled was unacceptable. The fact that she handed me a visibly bleeding dog and didn't seem to have a proper solution or show serious concern is deeply troubling. When you pay a professional, it's because you believe they'll treat your pet with the care and skill you would--or better. That was not the case here. Never again. I do not recommend Sparkling Pets to anyone who values their pet's well-being.
