My dog loves coming here for some retail therapy. He never buys anything, but he thoroughly enjoys walking the aisles and taking in the various scents of bagged kibble, baked treats, and adoptable small animals such as cats, birds, gerbils, etc. At the very back of the store is a grooming facility. We have been here twice because they always have availability, and sometimes you can get an appointment on the same day of service! Perhaps there is a reason no one is going here, but when your dog stinks, your high expectations will fly out the window just to restore order to your senses. I recommend booking the first appointment of the day. If you wait until later, you will see your dog travel through a room full of hair clippings. It's quite disgusting. They really should spend some time cleaning up between clients, putting a screen up so customers don't see the mess, and have a tidy path for dogs who have completed their service to be able to travel to the desk without collecting the fur on the floor around them. Yuck! I have a large dog that sheds quite a bit. Usually I do a de-shed or furminator type service at the groomer twice a year at a different groomer and that generally cuts down on the puffs around my house. Unfortunately, the Petco service doesn't seem to be effective at all. I brought my dog home yesterday and puffs of fur were still plucking off of him when I pet him. Had they actually done the service correctly, this would not be happening. I brushed him and was able to pull enough hair off of him to create another "dog". He was also supposed to get trimmed, but he still had grinch feet that I will have to tidy up myself. My appointment was at 9:00 am, and they called to let me know he was ready for pickup at 10:40 am. It only took an hour and a half to wash, dry, brush, and trim him? This is a dog with a double coat of long hair. I don't think so! It seems to me they are skimping on services and it shows in the results. Two other things that I would like for Petco to improve are the payment and tipping process. When booking the appointment online, I'm asked to input my credit card information. However, when picking up my dog, I'm given an invoice and told to go to the front counter of the retail store to pay. I have take out my credit card and swipe it, which begs the question, "Why did I have to input my credit card when booking the appointment online?" I'm asked if I want to pay a tip. Mind you, I haven't seen my dog yet. I have no idea how he looks or if the groomer has done a decent job. Tips used to be given for exceptional service, but now they seem to be expected whether services were delivered or not. My dog seemed happy when he was returned to me. Also, he didn't seem too traumatized when we arrived for the appointment even though he had been bathed here before. That leads me to believe that the staff are kind and gentle with him. Will I come back? Probably. However, I may not get the furminator or haircut because why pay for services when they aren't being delivered as promised? The first groomer I had did a much better job. Perhaps the real trick is to book a specific groomer that will provide the level of service for which I paid. read more

I have kept fish longer than she has been alive, and I have kept individual fish alive longer than she has worked here, but she's still thinks that she can lecture me and quiz me before starting to get a fish for me. After reading rave reviews of a certain type of dog shampoo, I ordered a bottle online for store pickup. My order was placed at about 1:14 pm on Tues. Jan. 13, and I received a confirmation "We have received your order" showing 1:16 p.m. I saw nothing indicating a window of time for order processing, just the note "You'll receive an email when your order is ready to pick up." After waiting 1-1/2 hours and hearing nothing, I called the store at 2:45 p.m. and asked what the holdup was. The person who answered told me that they allow a two-hour window for processing online orders. She looked at the records and told me she saw the order, would fill it, and email me when it was ready. After waiting nearly 30 more minutes with no email notification, I drove to the store. The nice young lady at the front counter found the order and handed it to me. When I asked her if it was standard practice to take that long to fill an online order for a single item, she said it was not and she couldn't explain it. After I left the store and checked my email again, I found an email telling me the order was ready. Although it indicated a sent time of 2:51 p.m., it did not show up in my in box until after 3:00 p.m., about the time I got to the store. When I got to the store, there was only one other car there, and that customer left the store just as I arrived. I say that to indicate that they were certainly not busy. So I am at a loss to explain why it would take nearly two hours to fill an order for a single bottle of shampoo -- and that happened only after I called. read more

Honestly the employees do NOT want to be there nor do they want certain people there. There was once this cat adoption event and I went with my mom and siblings (important info: we're Hispanic and it's pretty obvious we aren't white) but anyways we were trying to look at the cats and at one point my sister asked to hold one, she saw other customers holding cats aswell. And the lady working that day said we couldn't, but she said this while handing another cat to a white blonde child for her to hold. She then started asking us if our house was dirty and if we were dirty people, she said that she will only allow certain people to hold the cats, we left after that. Despite that, I went in another time and couldn't find a surgical suit for my cat (wasn't adopted at the Petco event) she was recently spayed and I thought it would be more comfortable for her than a cone. Anyways I asked an employee if she could tell me where to find it, she ignored me the first time and then once I asked again she rolled her eyes and told me to wait until she finished talking to her coworker. She eventually showed me where it was but there wasn't any that would fit my cat so I didn't buy any. While walking out you can very clearly hear her whisper to her coworker to make sure me and my dad weren't stealing anything. I am so disappointed at Petco's grooming area. The retail part of the store is fine and actually many of the workers are very helpful and kind. However, today the groomer was so unkind. It says on the website that you do not need an appointment for nail trimming, so I walked in. When I arrived, she was currently grooming a dog at that moment and said rudely that it would be a while before she could see my dog because she was the only one working today. I asked how long until we could get the nail trim and teeth brushing service. She replied rudely that it would be about 30 minutes, so I could walk around the store and wait or come back later. I told her I would walk around the store until she was ready. She never acknowledged my answer or anything but whatever, I thought she was ok with it. After 30 minutes, she was still grooming the tiny dog, and, in addition, taking in other dogs before me while watching me through the window. So after about 45 minutes of wasting my time walking around the store, I left. *I've even defended the store to my boyfriend who even complained about bad service because only one person ever works at the grooming service. The grooming was a complete scam. There was a random $15 charge that was NOT disclosed during the appointment set-up process. I asked why there was another $15, for a shave charged to my bill when I already am paying for the bath and cut (not to mention they didn't even shave her) and she simply said, "oh it doesn't show online when you book the appointment." If it didn't show online then why is it on my bill? I definitely can't afford any hidden up-charges and it was just shocking to think I'd be paying one price and then get there and I'm stuck paying $15 more! I can understand a $1-$5 charge, but $15? I don't know why this location has so many poor reviews. It's organized and pretty clean considering it's a pet store. They almost always have what I'm looking for in store. Plus, grooming here so far has been great on my Aussie. The staff and other customers are always so friendly. Most people are abiding by COVID distancing and they are quick to fill my pick-up/curbside orders. Training is small but interaction between the dogs is allowed, just not the people. I wish my dog and I got more out of our short trining window together each week, but my puppy sure does love the play which for me makes it work it. read more

Take my review like a grain of rice. When it comes to the location of this Petco, I do find it very convenient and I don't really mind the "unfriendliness" that is received when entering the store. During the weekends, the employees seem to be a lot more helpful in comparison to the employees during the weekdays. I never had any ill feelings towards this specific location but that's until recently. The reason why I'm giving this location three stars is because I would not recommend their grooming services. I had decided to give this location a try because my previous groomer had gotten "let go" recently and my dog needed her monthly grooming. She's not the type to be easily handled since her personality is very energetic and never the type to want to sit still (she's only a year and a half old). At first I thought everything went alright but then I started to notice a few things once at home. She kept pawing and scratching at her right ear and when I looked closer there was a small bruising red mark (had put a little pressure on it to test it and she pulled her head away). When looking at her nails, all seem fine except for one of her dew claws. The edge was not cut properly and it looks similar to when a human has a hang nail but it does not seem to bother my dog that much during the time I attempted to fix it. To summarise, it just seems like the groomer(s) who worked on my dog was really rough with her (had left her alone at the store but now sadden that I hadn't stayed to watch) and just didn't have the time or patience to deal with her- nothing like my dogs' previous groomer had for her. I would like to say I had read the reviews about the Gromming service and was a little scared but I am one to like to tryout places for my self and I am glad I did. I have a nine month old miniature Schnauzer and he is distant from people due to his previous home so it is hard for him to warm up to people but Liz was amazing she work with to get him to trust her so she could groom him. Also Liz gave me great advice on setting him up on a grooming routine. I would like to say I am very excited to allow to groom my dog again because they did an excellent job. Regardless of all the horrible reviews I took mine in for a regular bath because it's closer to my apartment but when I got him back he was starting into itch like crazy so I called them and took him back. Few days later my dog kept on itching and started having wounds on his body. I was worried so I had to do a whole shelf up blood work to figure out what was wrong with him. Amounts of times and money wasted and I found out that he got lice. LICE!!! Any procedure of grooming is they are supposed to check for those kind of things first hand before starting the services and let the pet owner know. I know he didn't get it from anywhere else because he is a house dog he doesn't mingle with other dogs or go to the parks. He just likes to lounge on the couch. Juana at the grooming salon is an angel. She always gives my little puppy the BEST treatment. I was a little nervous coming in having had a negative experience at a different Petco, but Juana did such a great job! She is always really caring and gentle with my pup, and she answers all my questions. I feel very grateful for her. This Petco service is great. The whole staff here is really nice and helpful. This place has the worst customer service ever. We needed help with getting a bird. We tried looking several times for help; since the cashier was busy didn't want to be a bother. No one to be in sight. Finally when the cashier was busy, we asked him to get us some help. He said he would get someone for us. He never even bothered to get us helped out. Instead just let us sit there like idiots, standing looking at the bird we thought we wanted. We stood there a good 20 minutes waiting. We got tired of waiting and just left. And the cashier still had the nerve to say "have a good night ladies". I'd understand if we were rude, noisy, impatient costumers. But we weren't, we waited patiently. Who knew the BEST pet store is in my neighborhood? I took my 13 yr old grandson to his local pet store, Pet Smart on Coit & Campbell. We shopped for a couple of hours and I bought $50 worth of Betta stuff. And a Betta. I was a novice and told the sales young man that I would have to rely on his expertise. FIRST BIG mistake. I now know he used me to dump his bad inventory. The next day, same cutie grandson went to a pet store in Plano near Jump street. Bought some old live plants 75% off. that was a steal. Tonight my husband suggested our neighborhood pet store. I had forgotten about it. The employees are older and more experienced. The Betta inventory is far superior than the other 2 stores. Signed up and paid for Pet training at this location and have never been able to connect with the trainer. I was told she would call me, waited a week and never heard anything so I called and left a message. She called my work number once after 6:00 when I wasn't there so I called and left several more messages with my cell number and she never returned my call. When I call there she is in a class or not there so I leave my number but she doesn't respond. Why do they sign people up if the trainer can't be bothered to return a call? It has been over three weeks now and my puppy is not getting any younger. Guess I will be looking elsewhere. read more

Do NOT take your dog to get groomed here. I took my mini dachshund, Toby, to get a haircut (trim) here. I asked for to be a little bit shorter than usual (about 1/4in) and what did I get back? A SHAVED dog!! I did not ask for this!!!! Also he spent 5 hours there in a tiny cage (he is still confused)...no phone call to pick him up or anything.
