I don't like seeing snakes in enclosures way too small (specifically the retics, boas, and anacondas) Also having two green anacondas for sale seems irresponsible with how large those snakes get and the stringent care requirements they have. Most keepers outside of legitimate zoos would never be able to meet the space requirements alone. It worries me the ethics of the business have shifted. I used to love the store and recommend to my clients but today the visit just made me sad for the animals and hobby as a whole. read more

Very cool place! They have lots of different types of reptiles and inverts. I haven't found anywhere else with as many inverts. Some of the housing is a bit small, but they are meant to be temporary. The employees are experienced and very knowledgeable. Every time I've gone it's been a great experience for someone like me who is a newbie to inverts. read more

New to the area and this was our first experience going to a reptile store in DFW. From the reviews we thought the store was going to be larger than it is. Thats not a big knock, except we drive 40-minutes there and had hoped for more reptiles. Snakes are in one row and they have ball pythons, a couple of other pythons, a few boas and corn snakes. The people working had a great attitude and asked if we needed help. There was a steady flow of people coming in for supplies. This review is not a criticism, but simply to say the selection/variety was average at best. It is an "ok" reptile store. Maybe this is the best available in DFW, but compared to larger stores in other regions of the country it is on the small side. But if they have what you need then they could be great to work with. read more

Absolute worst shop I've been to and worst customer experience in my life! I was sold a baby beardie who after 3 days became very ill with a face covered in bl**d. A trip to the vet (who said he would likely be a failure to thrive due) almost $300 later, and multiple attempts to give this little guy help I brought him back to the store for help from them. They declined taking the meds I was given by the vet multiple times and even repeatedly stated (once immediately upon arrival) that they would likely be putting him down. I did not want another baby beardie from them as they all looked as sickly at the original one i took home less than one week prior so I opted for the adult dragon. They then made me pay for the difference of the dragon despite me spending over $1k at their store in the last week, being scarred by this experience with a very sick beardie, and having to bring him to the vet. In getting the bigger beardie, i was told i could return the hides i bought since they were too small. I tried to do so and they said due to policy i could only have store credit (which i don't want because i stated i was never coming back). They then returned the 2 cheapest items on my recent receipt (a breeding box and feeding box) when I was there exchanging two hides well over the amount they were refunding. Absolute horrible experience and TERRIBLE customer service. Please avoid and go to the DFW Reptarium instead. read more

Unbelievable! Every other places where you buy feeders you can return for credit at the minimum. Seriously to not even take the rat back is ridiculous. Every real reptile owner knows that they don't always eat. So having the option to be able to bring it back keeps people as a return customer. Petco, Petsmart and DFW Repterium allows for you to return the rat for store credit or refund. In my opinion this owner clearly only cares about his bottom dollar. If he chooses to respond with well place don't take the rat back because of damage or some other ridiculous reason. This rat is perfectly healthy and nothing wrong with it besides it didn't get eaten. read more

I made a review about this store a year ago and have contemplated making an update since, but I feel like it's important to know bc this is the well being of my pet. I took my snake to be fed by them as she was not eating a thing for months (all temperatures were as they needed to be) the shop does assisted feeding so I took her after 30 minutes of her being in the back a different guy than the one who took her back there brings her saying she ate a live mouse (she has only ever ate frozen) so I paid and left happy thinking she had actually ate something. For 2-3 months after, I tried to feed her several live rats (all dying inside her tank bc she refused to eat them) and i noticed my snake hadn't pooped and if he had ate the rat (at the shop) months ago she would have pooped but never did resulting me to believe she never ate that day they told me she did. (She is eating frozen rats and ate one after I offered her one for the first time after 3 months of offering live rats) i have stopped shopping here since and probably won't ever go back bc they seem to lack integrity. read more

This is specifically a pet boarding service review. I've contemplated making this review for a longtime now but ultimately I think it's important for people seeking to board their pets to understand the risk they're taking. As many know, the Serpentarium caught fire last August. I was unfortunately boarding my ball python there at the time as I was on vacation in Japan. I received a voicemail at 2 am while abroad informing me that I needed to come pick up my snake ASAP as the building caught fire and they were evacuating all animals. Luckily, I checked my phone briefly in the middle of the night and heard the voicemail. I called them back in tears (because I'm sure as many of you can relate- I absolutely love and adore my little guy) and spoke to someone on the phone trying to confirm that my snake was okay and to understand when I could get him picked up. My friends FaceTimed me while picking my snake up and an employee with soot on her hands handed my snake over (with soot on him), and asked no questions pertaining to their identities or if they knew me, the snake owner. I understand this was an extraordinary emergency, but they didn't call to let me know my snake had been picked up or to confirm they could pass him along to my friends which somewhat floored me, as I expect boarding services to commit to the care and wellbeing of animals boarded there. I also want to add that since then, there have been no follow ups on how my snake was doing or if I had taken him to a vet to check for injuries. Admittedly, I'm a helicopter snake mom. So, when I originally spoke to the employee, I asked if they would be covering vet bills. At the time, I had no idea if my snake was burned or exposed to smoke and the employee could not confirm his status either, which is why I raised the question. The employee told me she would ask and get back to me. She never did. So, eventually I reached out via Facebook and asked and they said no, they would not cover any vet bills related to the incident. Fortunately, my snake did not have any burns, just soot on him; however, I still took him to the vet to see if he had incurred any internal injuries due to smoke inhalation. I racked up a $350+ vet bill as the vet recommended taking x-rays of my snake's lungs to confirm if there was any damage. So, then I asked the Serpentarium if they would at least refund me for the boarding days I paid for that were cut short due to the fire and they asked me what dates my snake was boarded because they didn't have that information any longer. So, I just gave up trying to get any reimbursement and took the L (somewhere around $500 for the vet fees and missed boarding days). I have to make it clear that at no point did anyone reach out and offer to refund me for the boarding days missed or to even check on my snake. I also want to add that when boarding your snake there, you do NOT sign a waiver pertaining to the health and safety of your animal. You only sign a document stating you have to pick your animal up on time or face additional fees or forfeiting your animal. So, I figured this would mean the boarder would take responsibility for any incidents incurred while boarding. I want to make it clear that I know I should've asked beforehand, but I never anticipated the place catching fire. I will now do so if I ever board my snake again. I would NOT recommend trusting them to board your pet. In cases of emergencies, they truly don't take on the responsibility necessary to ensure your pet is safe or even okay in the case of emergencies. Before this, I boarded my snake here a few times, which is why I'm so gutted that they handled the fire the way they did. I thought I found the best boarding spot in Dallas and I was wrong. I hope everyone understands that I'm not writing this review to bash this business. I was a huge fan and even had a membership here before the incident. I'm writing this review to ensure that pet owners can make a fully educated decision on boarding pets here. Don't use their "pet hotel". They require you to pre-pay for boarding which is understandable. However, if you need to pick your pet up earlier than expected they WILL NOT REFUND OR STORE CREDIT your money back to you. It does not matter that the refund policy on the receipt says that any unused product will be refunded in the form of a STORE CREDIT! You will basically be out of that money. Their reasoning: when you book a reservation at a normal hotel and don't stay the length of the reservation, you don't get your money back. That's a crock of crap! Maybe they only use hotels that book by the hour? That's the same as if you prepay $60 for gas in your vehicle, only for the tank to hold $40 worth and the gas station keeps the remainder. Who is going to be ok with that? It's ridiculous. I am shook they won't give us a store credit at the very least. So disappointed in this customer service FROM THE MANAGER no less. His name is DREW. I even called back a 2nd time to plead my case with DREW, and this time he told me they had other people wanting to board their animals but they had to turn them away because our animal was taking up the space. That's a bold-faced LIE because when I called to book back in early October as I was worried about them having space, and the worker told me there is never a shortage of space and I can book whenever. So that EXCUSE isn't working either, DREW. We have dropped so much money on this place since June, DREW. They are going to lose so much business over $54. But it's obvious DREW doesn't care because they get plenty of business elsewhere. You've been warned. Better off buying your supplies online or the DFW Reptarium. Clean establishment and I love what they have done to the snake aquariums. They have some amazing pets up for adoption. We switched to this establishment for buying feeder rats. Their rats are half the price and don't look sick, unlike petco's feeder rats do. I am so grateful that the Serpentarium came to DFW! Those in DFW know we've had the Reptarium for a number of years, but anyone who is knowledgable about various reptiles will attest the Reptarium has incredibly high prices coupled with young kids without expertise who attempt answer very important questions about the animal care. They do so with enough confidence to have a new reptile owner walk out with a bearded dragon and sand for its substrate. A tragic combination that will likely result in a dead beardie. But I'm not just excited about the Serpentarium just because its better than the Reptarium in every possible way. I'm most excited because the staff members are serious experts about reptiles and inverts, and they will grab another team member if they aren't themselves knowledgable about your question. They also breed their pets out of California, and they accept surrenders for those who cannot care any longer for their pets. They also have a gold and platinum level membership. I purchased the platinum because I was spending a fortune on a new setup and I would immediately get my money back and then get an additional 15% off everything I buy for the rest of the year. I'm a frugal person, and I want to get expert advice, but I want to pay the least amount possible as well. I scored big time at the Serpentarium, where I checked the prices against online retailers and I came out ahead on every item I bought. Additionally, members get benefits like free pet inspections and enclosure reviews to maximize your pets health and quality of life. Great experience. Got me started off really well for my new leopard gecko. I started off with Taylor and he was very helpful but brand new to the store.
