The facility is great; whoever built it knew what they were doing. They even have a place for dogs that are a little aggressive or don't like to be touched. The dog runs have a door that can be raised for the dogs to go out in a field to run and do their business then the dog comes back to in dog run so the staff doesn't even have to touch him perfect place for my dog. When I first went in I said do y'all keep aggressive dogs and I said yes we do. I was very excited to find a place for Kujo. I went back to see where they kept them, and they showed me the door that goes out to the field for them to run. I was so happy. I explained to the staff not to pet Kujo because he doesn't like other people, he's just likes me and my wife, but they decided they need to be able to handle him and pet him. The one boy that works there, I guess he's a man got a little scratch on his arm when he was screwing with Kujo so when I called back about three or four months later, he said they can't keep him because they can't handle him. They have a great place. They just need to train their staff. Even though they have the perfect pace for working dogs that you cant pet they're not trained at all to handle those types of dogs. The boy in the picture below is the boy that caused all the problem, and he lied to me about being there when I picked my dog up. Not one word about his little scratch. They have one male that works there his name is Cole. He is in the picture below feeding Kujo a treat by hand. I had a deal with Cole and other staff to tip them $200 if they send me pictures of Kujo in the field getting his running. We are still trying to find a good place for our baby since his trainer retired. From the Pappy's manager Dee, I appreciate your reply and insight regarding your experience at our facility. I will keep it in mind. We completely understand Kujo's personal space preferences and our team accommodated for that during his previous stays. However, this is not a feasible option going forward as our staff does have to be able to handle any pets in our care. I have reminded our team of our policies for accepting pets to avoid any future uncertainty on the matter. I have also reviewed the footage and can confirm. The employee present was adhering to Kujo's boundaries when Kujo approached the employee first and bit his arm. The bite did break skin but did not require medical attention which I believe is also part of why you were not informed during Kujo's stay in February. I have discussed the correct procedures for customer communication with our guest service reps because sharing pertinent information like this should never be missed. Thank you again. With a desired (pretty quick) turnaround to pick her up, Terri and team obliged! Terri explained how well things went, suggested some yummy new treats and provided advice on switching Puma's food (upon my request). Pappy's takes great care of our dogs multiple times a week! I was so nervous about leaving my dogs at a daycare so often, as this is the first time our family has no one home on weekdays. The staff is so friendly at pick up and drop off, and they give our dogs personalized attention. Since starting at Pappy's a couple months ago, my giant puppy has gotten less skittish around new dogs and people, and my senior dog has a lot more energy and interest in his surroundings. On the days when my senior dog doesn't feel like playing, the staff lets him hang out with them in the office, so that he's not kenneled all day. I've heard they do this with some other seniors, too. My dogs come home smelling like they did when they got there. Whenever my dogs get a bath there, they come home much more comfortable and clean. There's nothing fancy about Pappy's, so this isn't the place to go if you're looking for a spa experience for your dog. But it is absolutely the place to go if you're looking for a group of people to trust to care for your dogs with love. read more

Beware - We took our 4 month old puppy Oliver in for grooming. 3 days later we noticed he was having explosive diarrhea. Turns out he has Giardia, an intestinal parasite infection. Dogs can become infected by drinking water contaminated with feces. Puppies are very susceptible to it. Oliver is the only animal in our house hold. Nor does he go anywhere with a lot of dogs or have ANY opportunity to drink water containing feces... No other place, but Pappy's Pet Lodge... $330.00 dollars later in vet bills, we're hopeful he'll get better soon. When you enter the facility you'll notice the foul, unclean animal smell. Especially, the smell of urine. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

RIPPED OFF AND UPSET at the unknown conditions my dogs stayed in. I paid $316.60 to board Phoenix and Harlow from Tues, June 9th @ 8 am - Sunday, June 14th @ 530 pm with a bath before they came home. They both came home with a rash on their bellies. A visit to our vet (Wesley Taylor D.V.M. @ Highlands-El Dorado Veterinary Hospital) and the diagnosis was staph infection. I now have paid an additional $343.38 to treat the staph infection. They are on 18 days of antibiotics, 10 days of steroids each and have to be bathed 2xs a week in a medicated shampoo. My veterinarian, said for such a quick onset they would've had to stay in a kennel that was infected or wasn't cleaned well. The fact that my dogs stayed 5 nights in possible squalor, itching pisses me off. My dogs are pitbulls, they don't whine they just suffer stoically - until someone gives a damn. And these dogs live in an immaculate home, courtesy of an OCD-military boyfriend. My dogs are now crated from 745 am to 545pm - while we're at work, because the medications flush out their system, making them more thirsty and have to urinate more often. I came home today and let them out of the crate. Phoenix couldn't hold her bladder and she peed by the door. Her head hung low, eyes apologizing. 5 nights at this place. My dogs came back with an infection. I'm out $660. And you're effin with my dog's self-esteem and upsetting our normal routine. I wish I had never brought my dogs to this place - it's cost me more money and been a complete inconvenience, to have had my dogs stay in unclean conditions. Pappy's in Roanoke has lost their heart. It is a shame as I have been a customer for 2 years and had not had any issues until recently. They have lost all their staff that had exceptional experience and now have a group that in my opinion do not care for the pets that are being lodged and/or with daycare. My dog about a year was attacked by another dog there and they did a great job of taking care of the situation and reintegrating my dog and getting her reacclimated. All was good until about 2 months ago when my dog suddenly became the "aggressive dog" according to all the techs. They claim that they gave her a chance but when I told them of the whole story I was told "oh we didn't know that - that makes a difference knowing that whole story." My dog just no longer is submissive. I know for a fact she is not aggressive as we have friends come over with their pets, we go to dog parks, etc. Again, the staff at Pappy's Roanoke is not QUALIFIED to take care of your pet. Would not recommend them at all. Saturday and today were the last straw when I was treated no better than gum on a shoe so we will no longer take our dogs there and/or recommend them. Previously and on Saturday I was treated with disrespect by Demi and today was treated in a curt and rude manner over the phone by the manager Christy. In fact, will go out of my way to let all of my friends with dogs know to not take their pets there. read more

This was our first time boarding my fiance's dog. We were told to send over the medical records and then when he brings her (Maddie) in the morning, everything should be good to go. En route to Pappy's I receive an email 15 min before getting there that one of her shots was not up to date. Exact words were: "Most vets allow walk-ins... I hear it only take 15-20 minutes." Not only did my fiance have to find a vet that took an hour and a half out of his morning, but then when he finally brings Maddie into Pappy's Lodge, they couldn't board her. The communication was severely lacking and made the whole experience an inconvenience and a waste of time. I do not recommend this place to anyone. If the customer service is already poor to 'humans', just think the incompetency that your dog will have to endure. read more

My fiancee and I had our dog(Jada) board at Pappy's Pet Lodge during our trip to Italy. She stayed there for 11 days. I picked up Jada on 10/5 and was told that she ate all of her food during her stay. The total amount we paid for her lodging, grooming and daycare was $339.00. My fiancee decided to take Jada to our vet after we discovered some scratches on her nose. Our vet told us that Jada had lost 20% of her weight. We explained that Jada was boarding at Pappy's Pet Lodge and we were told that they have a reputation for dumping the food and telling customers that their pets have eaten all of their food when that isn't true. We contacted Bonnie, who is the VP of Pappy's Pet Lodge. In the beginning, she apologized but then said that Pappy's shouldn't be held responsible. She spoke with our vet and was informed that Jada's weight wasn't an issue until she boarded with Pappy's. My fiancee and I have requested a complete refund for our services, since it has become crystal clear that Pappy's mistreated our dog. Bonnie has refused to give us a refund and filing a BBB compliant is the first of many steps we are going to take in order to get a refund and have our concerns addressed. We were both disgusted with Bonnie's lack of concern for treating animals properly and her inability to understand our perspective. We will never ever allow Pappy's to care for our dog because she didn't receive the care that their mission statement suggests that is provided. I just want other people to be informed about Pappy's! I initially brought my dog here since it was SO much cheaper than any other pet boarding place I could find - $17/night for a 3' x 3', which is plenty of room for my 23lb corgi. I looked around for awhile, and most other places are around the $25-30/night range. After Zoe's first stay here, the staff was in LOVE with her and couldn't wait to have her again - which was all the more reason to bring her back, right? They remembered her after her first stay and I could call in and check on her when I wanted. One great thing about Pappy's is if your dog is in Day Care, they have live cameras where you can watch your pup play online by going to their website - granted, it lags a bit and is blurry, but still a nice option to have. I was still able to point out Zoe on the computer screen! If you end up liking Pappy's enough to become a regular, don't forget to ask for a VIP card - you get 2% of any service back on the card, which you can use later on. I didn't ask until Zoe's 4th stay, but they still put all her previous stays and services onto the card, which was nice. Unfortunately the last time I took Zoe to stay there, she came home with fleas. When I called, they said they do a screening before Day Care, but I find it difficult to believe that my dog could have gotten fleas within the half day I had taken her home. I've moved since then so I probably won't be going back, but for the price, I was pretty satisfied with Pappy's. read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !!! Too bad we can't give 0 star.... We let our 2 cats at this PappyPetLodge location, from March 8th to March 13th. During our stay out of town, I sent an email to get some news and never received any answer. We went to pick them up on Sunday March 13th in the morning. The lady gave us back the box with our 2 cats inside, saying everything had been fine, and gave us that pretty little card full of smiley faces and flowers indicating that our 2 cats had spent a great stay. Til there, everything seemed to be fine and normal. When we arrived at our house, and opened the box, we found that one of our 2 cats had all her hair totally sticky, on all the back of her body, as if she had painting on it or something, and that poor cat seemed so unhappy with her condition ! My husband spent about 2 hours trying to remove what was stuck in her hair without any result. I went back to the PappyPetLodge location, and the lady, with a big smile (and while she had told us to our face that everything had gone just perfectly fine !!!), told me : "Oh yes, we just put scented wax in the cats'playroom, and this is it !" .... Really ??? Who puts some liquid wax, with some cats who, like everybody knows, climb everywhere !! It ended that, of course, they reimbursed me the cost of the stay, and they sent me, after I insisted all day long on the phone, to their Addison location to see a cat groomer. Result : My cat, who was perfect and beautiful before they have her, has now all the back of her body totally shaved. Thank you PappyPetLodge, I will NEVER EVER give you any of my pet to take care of, you are totally irresponsible lying persons, and I will tell all the people I know to stay away from you. The staff are polite, but I really don't think they pay attention to what their clients ask them to do. We had two issues come up during our dog's nine-night board with Pappy's: 1. Since his room was equipped with a Web cam, I could see what was going on in his room the whole time he was there. I'm glad of this because the staff neglected to put his toys, blankets, etc in the room with him. It took me sending two emails (we were out of the country and on different time zones) until I got a reply. The manager on duty immediately remedied the situation, but it should NOT take almost 48 hours for my dog to get his things. 2. When we dropped him off, we requested that he be bathed the last morning he was there. I'm glad I called before I went to pick him up because they didn't have on record that we requested this. Not a big deal, just one other little thing they didn't pay attention to. Overall, our dog seemed happy when he got home, which is what's most important. We had him in daycare every other day he was there, and from the Web cam he looked like he was having fun. The room is pretty small, though, and I didn't see any toys in it for them to play with. We will probably take him back, but not for a long stay. And we will for sure use a room with a Web cam again. read more

I've given Pappy over 3 years but I'm starting to doubt our relationship. We started out so good - my fur baby CB really seemed to enjoy day care and lodging. But, then we started having problems in our relationship... We took CB for group training classes at their Plano location & my poor 10 lb baby was mildly attacked (eye and nose scratch) by a German Shepherd whose owner swore was the mildest dog ever just before she lunged at CB. CB peed and popped on the spot. Pappy apologized and I could see where it wasn't Pappy's fault so I took him back. Then we noticed that the dogs weren't being checked for booger bugs at drop off...not even quick once overs. I mentioned it to Pappy and he smoothed it over, and so I took him back. Again, I started noticing CB was lighter and hella thirsty whenever I picked him up...like he hadn't had water for hours. Me and Pappy chatted about it, and I, of course, walked away thinking it was a non-issue. So then, I pick my angel face up and he starts limping...badly...when we get home. I was ready to break up with Pappy at this point, but after Pappy assured me that baby bear just "wore himself out" playing and was "a little sore" and that they would be happy to foot a vet bill if he didn't improve over a couple of days...I mean Pappy means no harm? And CB did get better after a couple of days...so I took him back. But I started dating on the sly...other boarding facilities, friends, etc. and I noticed that CB never limped when I picked him up then.... But you know how you start reminiscing and you start missing your old boo (especially when your old boo is cheaper to date than your new boo)...and so I dropped angel face off at Pappy's for a few nights' stay. I pick him up and baby bear is limping badly. At least this time they tell us upon arrival and we don't have to find out on our own. What made me write this review is the answer to this simple question, "What would I do if it were me caring for a couple of my friends' pups?" Here's what I'd do, I would pay attention...you have to because dogs can get into things - check in often. If I noticed one of my friend's dogs limping or struggling, I'd pull him out of romp and play and crate him to let him cool down...knowing me, I'd massage the little critter's legs until he dozed off first. After some down time, I'd try him out again...if he were still having trouble with all the action, he'd get more down time, and at this point, I wouldn't charge my friend for daycare, I'd just let the pup chill out...maybe walk him solo if that was doable. I don't think I would let a friend's pup get so bent out of shape - it's avoidable if I'm paying attention and if I take action right away. I like Pappy's because they are reasonable in price, they offer the daycam, and it is a clean place. But I'd be crazy if I kept ignoring that sometimes, baby bear doesn't seem to be getting treated like a beloved granddog by Pappy. I don't know where we go from here in our relationship... big sigh. Pappy's staff, especially Misty and Angie, have cared for our cockapoo Hank for about 16 years. Misty has been his groomer for a long time and she was always attentive and gentle, even when he didn't appreciate things like getting his ears plucked! She alerted us to problem issues that we could then check with our vet. We had to say goodbye to Hank on Wednesday, right before he was scheduled for another grooming. We highly recommend them for their professionalism and caring attitude. read more

I was nervous to leave my dogs for day care since they have never been before and especially Pixie because she is 6 years old with no boarding experience (and very anxious around other dogs/people). However, from the moment I dropped them off to picking them up I felt reassured and encouraged by the staff. I was able to watch my dogs throughout the day on the webcam. They also gave me a great progress report about the day and how it went/who they played with. I peeked in (or maybe stalked) on the web cam quite a bit throughout the day and didn't notice a lot of human interaction (besides coming in to clean up mess). However, I did not get to see when they were outside or during nap time. So there may have been more interaction during those times. Overall, it was a great experience for our first time with Pappy's. I loved the vibe I received from the staff at drop off and pick up. Also, I was surprised to find out when I picked them up that the first visit was complimentary. Bonus! read more

I've never taken the time to write a review before but our experience was so bad that I feel I have to let others know. We left our yellow lab over Spring Break. Because of their water well going down they called us mid-break to ask us to come pick our dog up. We were obviously away and couldn't come pick our dog up so they said not to worry, they'd take good care of him. When we picked him up, his blankets from when he was a a puppy were soaking in pee and some poop. Because they couldn't wash any of the blankets(due to well being down), we could clearly see our dog hadn't been taken out of his run. He would never soil his blankets unless he had no other choice. When I called to speak with them, the lady at the from desk(the manager) said at one point it was just her for 100 dogs, since all of their staff quit. Our dog also came home with infected eyes and a very bad cough(which he still has). Our vet thinks it's from either the ammonia in his pee and sitting on it for so long or from barking to go out so much...over days. Their lack of being able to problem solve during a tricky situation and keep the pets safe, is horrific. Please do NOT send your animals to Pappy's. read more

I have utilized Pappy's daycare and boarding services. After several bad days of daycare, I will not be bringing my dogs back here again. Boarding was fine for the most part: We boarded him late around a busy holiday weekend, so we were left with a small cage in the grooming room for him. We had to pay extra (about $10 per day) if we wanted him to get out and get some additional exercise, which of course we did...so we paid a pretty penny for boarding. Daycare: -My dogs always come home ravenous for water! The 4th and final time I picked them up from daycare I brought a couple bottles of water and a dog bowl--they killed off the water in a matter of seconds, and then attacked their water bowls at home. I'm under the impression that they give the dogs water when they take them out of the room around midday, but while they're in the playroom (for a majority of the day) they get no water. -The dogs don't have anything to play with -They aren't let out enough...most of them have accidents in the playroom throughout the day. -Thank God for the webcam! The last time I will EVER take my dogs there I watched the webcam all afternoon: Half the dogs were never taken out of the playrooms. Most of them spent a full 8-hours in a room with no food, no water, and no potty breaks...except for the potty breaks done on the floor in the room. Overall they have a friendly staff, and are reasonably priced, but they are not very attentive of their dogs. I would not recommend Pappy's. read more

They didn't seem to really be listening when I gave them specific instructions about my dog, but the staff seemed pretty friendly and my dog made it through alive. Well, I finally returned to Pappy's after taking my animals home for the winter break. Early part of the semester wasn't as busy, so I was able to exercise my dogs a lot more. However, it's that time of the semester when things start picking up, and my dogs deserve to still be socialized and played with. I'm happy to be back and so are they. Molina is always exhausted after her time at Pappy's, and she has also started training with Mary at the Ohio location. She is a slow learner, but Mary is patient (and teaching me to be patient) with her. I also noticed that Griffey was getting a little more aggressive with dogs ever since I stopped taking him to Pappy's. He usually warms up to them after a bit, but he was becoming a mean doggie to other dogs on walks. Seeing him on the webcams at Pappy's today makes me realize I really shouldn't have stopped. He needs to be socialized so he doesn't get so nervous or anxious about other dogs. This is so good for him and her (and not to mention me). I also noticed some new employees at Pappy's, but it is nice to know that they pick up on your dog's names really quick and the service hasn't been lacking. Sadly, prices have increased :( So I might not be able to take them as often as before, but with the deal this week for free days of daycare with a purchase of a package might just make it all worth it. read more

The webcam option is also a cool feature. It gives you the capability of checking in on your dog to see how he/she is doing while you're away! I called a few times each day to check on the pups to see how they were doing and everyone I spoke with was pleasant, friendly, patient and knew which dogs were mine. My dogs were clean and smelled fantastic (and no, I didn't get them groomed/bathed, even though that is an option) and all of the bedding that I had taken was washed and folded. I have had bad experiences at other pet hotels around Dallas where my dog has been injured or fallen ill, and the staff doesn't pay attention or let me know. Not at Pappy's. We boarded our dog at another place and she came home hoarse from barking at other dogs and had a raw nose from the chain link fence that was used on the run. She had no interaction other than feeding. The next time we boarded her at Pappys and were extremely satisfied. My wife and I take our dog here for doggy day care about once a week. Doggy day care tires out our (very energetic 1 year old) Lab so Gracie is relaxed when she comes home in the evening. I like the day cam and the fact that the staff know our dog's name and seems to care about her. I read other comments about some other dog's coming home with a limp. VERY UNHAPPY IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG, DON'T GO HERE. The facility was nice, well maintained, conveniently located and I liked the fact that webcams were available. I took my dog here strictly for daycare. UNFORTUNATELY, the webcams don't show the entire facility and my dog was injured on three different occasions at this facility. The first day went just fine. Second day she got bit in the face and they told me when I showed up to get her.... They said it was just a scratch no big deal and I was okay with just a scratch but when they brought her out from the back she was bleeding from her mouth. I sat her down and pull up her lip to find a bad puncture wound. I took her to the vet to make sure she was okay and she was. So I took her back a third time and somehow she got some scratches her right side, that nobody noticed, that I found it when I was giving her a shower that very same night. They were just scratches so I thought no big deal a dog just got to excited with her. So I took her two more times with no problems. Now we're on day six on taking her and when I show up to get her they ask me if my dog was injured prior coming to daycare. I was like no what wrong with her. As he was telling me about it she was brought out to me by another employee and I noticed the swollen spot that was blood red and had not a trace of hair and that was the size of a racquetball on her right side by her back leg. I have a Great Dane that's right at a year old so she's still a little hyper BUT she's not aggressive in any way and if challenged she turns and runs so these incidents were not her fault. I'm upset that I witnessed, via webcams, the employees playing on cell phones when they were supposed to be watching the dogs. I had my dog going to daycare at Pappy's at George Bush and Alma once per week for over a year and boarding her when out of town. About six months ago, I happened to look at their webcam and I saw my 12 pound, 1 1/2 year old dog in the daycare room with the large dogs. I was told in the beginning that the dogs were separated by size. Small in Daycare room 1 and Large in Daycare room 2. (This is also advertised on their website). When I picked my dog up later in the day, I noticed blood in the back seat of my car. I looked at her when I got home and her tail had been lacerated. I immediately took her to the vet and then I took her straight back to Pappys to show them what had happened. I am sure a big dog bit her tail. I spoke with Bonnie, the VP of Operations, and she said she was sorry but she could not give me a good reason why my little dog was mixed in with the big dogs but she assured me it would never happen again. I continued to take my dog there out of loyalty to the previous owner after much reassurance. Last week I looked out on the webcam and could not find my dog in Daycare Room 1 so I looked in Daycare Room 2 and sure enough she was in the middle of all the large dogs again. I immediately called and asked why my dog was in with the big dogs and they told me they were using Daycare Room 1 as the restroom for all the dogs to potty in while they had construction going on out back putting in turf and they had to move some of the dogs into the other room. They also had the camera frozen on the same photo all day long on Daycare Room 1 so that you could not see they were using it as a bathroom all day with about 20+ dogs in the room at the same time. I called and asked them to remove my dog out of the room with the large dogs and after about 15 minutes and them not removing her, I drove over there and picked her up and took her home. The other excuse I got was they had several new people on staff and they did not know my dog should not be put in the large dog room. I asked them to have Bonnie, VP of Operations, to call me and she wrote me an email instead of calling me directly saying there was no excuse for that happening and she was reviewing it with her team. My dog also got very sick the next day throwing up from both ends and I had to take her to vet and then the ER that night. She obviously caught a virus at daycare or the whole thing stressed her out. She is very afraid of large dogs and the staff at Pappy's had even told me that before. I will never take her there again due to the lack of trust and unclean practices. They don't pay attention to their clients and they don't follow their own guidelines stated in their own mission statement on their own website. read more

We've used Pappy's for boarding and grooming our 3 Shelties the past several years. We love that when we board our dogs, they can share a room together AND that we can log online during our travel to watch them real-time anytime we want. Our dogs have always been well cared for and actually seem to like going to Pappy's. We've also used them for grooming and our boys have always come home looking so clean and handsome. Being long haired dogs, they do a great job with knowing how to cut their coat so it still looks thick and soft but cuts down on the shedding. Thanks, Pappy's! read more

I, in good conscience, can not bring my dog here. I reviewed the website and loved it and decided to check the place out. I loved the services and training they offer, but that quickly changed. This may be my first review when I didn't actually try the location. Before checking the place out I decided to watch the Web cams to see the space the dogs play. I had no idea what was in store for me. There was a tall, heavy set man in the room. He was just walking around through the dogs, not interacting with them. No biggie, though playing with them would be nice. Then all the sudden I noticed he was using the water spray on the dogs for no reason. Dogs scurried away and he just kept doing it. No rhyme or reason. I've only seen water used as a way to keep the dogs back or help gain control. This seemed like it was almost malicious. Then my mind was blown when I watched him grab a black dog that wasn't doing anything, and put him on his side. Then reached back and popped him on the butt. Didn't look like a hard hit though. When the dog tried to get up the man put him back down with his foot. The man then cleaned the room (that's a plus) and left. I was concerned and kept watching. Later both him and a female were in the room. The girl played with the dogs and pet them. I do want to add that the male did kick some balls around when he was in there. I called the location and told the assistant manager what happened. She thought it might have been his own dog (rottweiler ) but I let her know it wasn't the rottweiler. I do not know what course of action has been taken at this time and people should know what happens during the day. read more

Literally the worst place to take you dog. The managers here are HORRIBLE ! They don't give a damn about your dog at all . I paid for my dog to be in daycare and to be bathe . When I picked him up it's like he wasn't washed at all . I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

They claim to have webcams, but the ones in Roanoke are always broken. I have to wonder what they are trying to hide. The staff at the Roanoke location is rude and insensitive. I called because the cameras aren't working and the rude girl just told me she can't fix it. So, I am now on my way to pick up my pet, because I have no idea how she is being treated there. read more
