I've only used their nail trimming service, but I'm thankful for it. No appointment necessary. Come before 1:00 PM on weekdays when they have multiple groomers available. You'll be in and out of there in about 5-10 minutes. They only take cash. It will cost about $10-15 depending on who you do business with. Regardless, it is quick, cheap, and actually painless for my pup. He doesn't seem to mind his visit here. read more

My first review 8 years ago found this place to be fantastic. My actual experience since then has not been. My dog was injured in their care some time ago (almost 2 years ago now) and STILL suffers from the effects of those injuries. Paula, the owner, was completely dismissive of the situation and took no accountability or responsibility for it, only an excuse that she was off that day and had left things to the charge of one of her employees. Do your dog a favor and take them somewhere else. I have never forgiven myself for the guilt I feel for trusting mine in the care of this establishment. read more

I've been taking both my Rottweilers there since we moved back to Richardson, from Auburn, AL, in 2018. Both always LOVED PAULA, the owner, & JOSE, their groomer, as did I. Jose took GREAT CARE of them, always. My older girl, Ivy, passed in June of 2022 just before her 13th birthday, from cancer. During her last yr, she was in a lot of pain, but never missed an appointment w/ Jose & LOVED him so much; he was SO GENTLE w/ her & always got her super clean & soft. Then Guinness (born June 14, 2015) continued going, & similarly LOVED everyone there, but especially PAULA & JOSE. Guinness had to have leg surgery in 2023, & Jose always made sure he was perfectly taken care of & comfortable. He also had to have subsequent procedures on both his elbows, & was in the process of recovering from another knee surgery in June, waiting to have 2 disks in his back fused & other issues corrected w/ a back surgery later this September (2025), but sadly, especially for me (but also everyone at Fire Plug, & significantly for Paula & Jose -- who, both, even offered to accompany me & Guinness the morning of Aug 26th, which shows how much they loved him & all their clients), Guinness had to be laid to rest August 26, 2025. So I won't be returning as a customer, but I will as a friend (& have already a couple times in the last wk & a half). They are TRULY MY EXTENDED FAMILY, & THEY WERE, BOTH, IVY & GUINNESS' FAMILY MEMBERS TOO. You cannot go anywhere else & expect the same level of care, expertise, & LOVE for your family member than Paula's Fire Plug Grooming. I'm a professor, who, depending on the edition, writes either the #1 or #2 most adopted college textbook on retailing & retail strategy in the world. In my upcoming 9th edition, they will be highlighted throughout the text for all the areas of excellence they exhibit & others could learn from. I cannot put a greater emphasis on how AMAZING & PERFECT PAULA, JOSE, & all of FIRE PLUG GROOMING is, have been (for YEARS/DECADES), & will continue to be. Some clients get the royal treatment, yes. I went 3 times and each time was a different issue. Two times ago my dog got an injury to his nose and was bleeding a bit when I picked him up. The last time it seemed like the new employee-groomer didn't know the correct cut and didn't follow directions for a sani-cut and trimming the ears. I asked for trim to bottom of the ear leather and I got ears shaved smooth. The real problem was a huge mat on my big boy's chest with the fluffy fur combed over so it wasn't noticed until the next day. I live about 30-40 minutes away and was coming over because they came so highly recommended. I went in to talk to the owner thinking I'd try one last time. But basically, no response. No apology, no "I'll check on it before you're called to pick them up", just nothing. I went out to my car to get them and my boy was shaking like a leaf which is not his normal. He's normally so laid back you have to wake him up to go in. My girl is my extrovert and she wouldn't get out of the car. I decided to pay attention to what the fur-kids were telling me. We recently relocated to the DFW area at the start of the COVID so went without getting our Goldendoodles groomed for entirely too long. One of our girls was fairly matted and probably should have been shaved but the thought of that brought me to tears. Fire Plug listened to my concerns and didn't shave her. They took the time to brush her out and give her a great new-do! Both of our girls came back from the groomer looking and smelling great. I cannot say enough great things about Fire Plug!! We were referred by one of the fosters for our rescue, who had previously sent one of her foster dogs to Fire Plug. We recently rescued an extremely matted poodle mix from the shelter. He came into the shelter with matting all over his body and around his face. See pics - we couldn't see his eyes, and his legs looked like they had extra legs and feet hanging off of them due to the poor state of his coat. Fire Plug was very quick to get us in for an appointment, and did an amazing job! Before his grooming, this boy spent most of his time moping in his crate. Thank goodness for Fire Plug! After adopting a goldendoodle a few months ago, we've had a horrible time finding a reliable and consistent groomer until now. I actually found out about Fire Plug after stopping someone who was walking a beautifully groomed Golden Doodle and inquired where they got their dog groomed. Before finding them I was worried that there was no hope of finding a great groomer in town because everyone would always shave my dog down and he'd look NUTS when he came home. Fireplug is the fourth groomer we've tried and after two visits I can happily say that they are FANTASTIC! It takes quite a bit of knowledge to accurately groom any type of doodle or poodle and they deliver. My dog looks darling each time, his hair has a wonderful even cut and the brush out is unbelievably good. But, the owners listed to us and cut him exactly like we wanted and did not do the "poodle" cut which most golden doodle owners are typically worried about. I am really disappoint after my visit here. This place had outstanding reviews on our neighborhood app, and it seemed popular based on their packed schedule. I dropped off my pet and the lady asked if I wanted the "usual". This was my first visit here. She listened, somewhat distracted, while I explained what I wanted. While picking up my pet, One of the staff at the front had an uncomfortable and unprofessional call come in. This I thought was a little strange, but my biggest complaint is my pups paws are terrible. I can understand if he has been fussy, and they had an explanation. I was told my pup did a great job on the table for them. Take a look at the photo. Looks like the accidentally went wild with the shaving. They look absolutely horrible. His hair on his back was also a little uneven. Seemed like staff was a little distracted here both when I dropped off my dog and especially when I picked him up.
