I never knew this place existed in the north east corner of Park and Coit. If you are into cold blooded animals, this is the place to visit. Almost feel like visiting a zoo but only for reptiles. This have huge amount of reptiles on display for sale. The staff are very helpful with whatever question you might have. The place is clean and you can tell the animals are really taken care off. Went here to browse the snake options! I'm planning to get a pet snake for myself for Christmas and have been researching them for a while. This place has a great selection of snakes and other reptiles and amphibians. Pricing was decent for the snakes I seen. A little more pricey than your average pet store but I believe the prices are fair for what I've seen everywhere. The staff was really nice but it was very busy inside so I didn't ask to hold any of the snakes. I plan to go back and hold some and see which ones I like handling more over time. I like that they also require you to have proof of your set up before purchase! I stopped by for the first time recently to get some isopods and was very impressed with the knowledge of the staff and their fantastic customer service! Vesper was very helpful with getting me a Springtail culture, and everyone was just so friendly! As a queer individual, I was also very happy to see that the shop is welcoming to LGBTQIA+ folks and it's clear they are committed to making every customer feel welcome. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I definitely plan to go back soon. My pods are quite healthy and have made themselves right at home! I highly recommend them! read more

One girl that couldn't seem to stop what she was doing said that since it was spring break time we couldn't hold anything also timing I guess. There weren't enough people to help. Then the second girl that helped acted like we were going to have the small child taking care of what ever we bought and was turning down everything we were talking about buying. I spoke up stating several time that we had the animals we were asking about but the girl just kept speaking over me saying she didn't recommend anything we were talking about. A turtle, gecko and a bearded dragon. None of which are cheap, they cost a lot to take care of and the only reason we don't have them in my home now are the kids took them when they grew up and moved out. So shame on you for prejudging and for not listening. Felt to everyone In the group that she just needed to heard everyone guessed. Fun to visit and lots to choose from but the prices are way too high. I understand the brick and mortar markup is necessary but this place takes it too far. I had a high pressure salesman repeatedly try to convince me to purchase a $150 light that would obviously not work with the terrarium I purchased. What I needed cost about 40-60 dollars. Recently bought a Pac-Man frog from this store. Before purchase, I noticed the frogs lower lip was a little odd. This is a symptom of metabolic bone disease. Common with these frogs and is usually related to a calcium deficiency. I asked the employee about it and he assured me it was just the coloration. It's not. He in fact has MBD. I believe it's because they don't feed an appropriate diet to their frogs. They feed only crickets which is ok occasionally but they can cause blockages. I bought the frog anyway even though they tell you no refunds. It's getting a varied diet with calcium added. We will see. At least it has a chance. Really sucks because we liked getting our supplies from there, they have a lot of good stuff and there aren't many other shops in the area, however we won't be back. We had our 7 year old daughters birthday party here last weekend and it was such a great experience. They had an area blocked off for our party with plenty of space, Christa was our host and was so lovely and knowledgeable of the different reptiles she shared with us! She was so patient and let every guest experience each reptile. The store was clean and smelled clean, not what I expected coming into a store full of reptiles to be honest. Don't come here if you're Black. You will receive biased, or little to no service. My sister and I called ahead to see if they had any geckos, bearded dragons, or chameleons in store to check out. After we confirmed with a worker on the phone if the reptiles we wanted to see were there, we headed out. Upon arriving, no one greeted us despite someone being at the front counter, and 3 workers occupying the room behind the counter. Granted, the guy at the counter was helping a customer, so we clocked it as him being preoccupied and kept it pushing. However, as we walked around (for about 10min) to check the reptiles out, we noticed a significant lack of attention from the workers: -Two workers walked directly past my sister and I without checking if we'd been helped. (we still hadn't) -Multiple families came in after us and WERE swiftly greeted/helped by staff. (we /still/ hadn't) -My sister /stood at the counter/ to half-interact with the bearded dragon, half to see if the workers would speak up. They didn't. In fact, they almost seemed to disperse/make-busy while she waited... Even the parrots said "Hello!" before the staff did. It wasn't until we were on our way out that one staff member came from the back, noticed us walking past the counter, and asked if we'd been helped today to which my sister told him "No, we hadn't at all, but that's fine. We're leaving." The guy literally said nothing and turned to walk away after that. This business must be making really great profits for them to afford to lose what would have been a pretty decent sale. My sister used to own lizards and was looking to have them again since moving here. She was quiet on purpose and even told me to wait and see if we would be helped without having to come to the staff first because she doesn't put her $$ where folks can't show respect. These employees are soooo knowledgeable it's crazy!!! Seriously, it was like a training class for those of us who have no clue. PetSmart basically said, "Here's your bearded dragon. Give him crickets and water." Here, we got full instructions. Way more info needed than just food and water to care for these creations of God. Some of the employees are zoology majors; one is pre-med, debating about going the veterinarian route. They know their stuff. And have all the supplies, food, and reptiles you could imagine. Last November 2021, we bought two rough green snakes and all the gear to set up an enclosure for them as first time snake owners during their Black Friday sale. My son had been dreaming of a snake for years and we thought we had researched snake ownership thoroughly enough so while he and his Father were out of town and I just so happened to see the unusual breed of snake we were searching for, I decided to get his Christmas gift (early). I knew to ask a few key questions so when I asked the teenage girl who showed me the snake about snake mites and I noticed a black dot under its scales I asked her to scratch it to see if it moved. I had never held a snake before and didn't know what I was looking for except from videos from YouTube. She lied to me and said, "No that is just dirt under it's scale". I asked her to scratch again and said are you sure you don't see any legs? She assured me it did not have mites. She looked it all over. Then I asked if it was wild caught or captive bred because I said it was important for us to have a captive bred snake for ethical and health reasons. She said she didn't know, but she would go ask the manager. She said the manager was busy so I waited over an hour in the store while gathering other supplies and he never came to answer my question. I 100% regret my decision to just go ahead and get the two snakes rather than try to source a breeder who would ship them in cold temperatures that would be dangerous for the snakes or just wait months until we could find what we were looking for online and safely ship. A week after we got our snakes settled in and eating well (they are insectivores) we noticed they were soaking in their water dishes and then we saw black dots in the water. We took one and placed it under my sons microscope and it wiggled around. SNAKE MITES!!! They were covered in them! The sales girl lied to me and we were past our 72 hour return policy, not that we would want to do that to an animal because snake mites kill snakes eventually. We went to the Sepeterium for EXPERT advice and they gave us wonderful tips that actually helped us rid our snakes of mites. Unfortunately, because we had to handle them so much in the process of ridding them of the mites with daily baths and oil massages they became scared of humans and their species does not like to be handled much. The other issue is because they eat insects we could not spray their enclosure with a reptimite spray and had to completely change out ALL of the enclosure items and clean everything! We did absolutely everything in our power to do what we thought was appropriate husbandry for snakes of their kind, but when you are sold sick snakes from the get go you are fighting a loosing battle. They stopped eating no matter what we tried, with a rich and varied mineral enhanced diet. We took them to a vet (the only reptile vet in town who was open during a February snow storm we had) and brought home medicine and liquid food for our snakes who had stopped eating all together. It was tragic. Both snakes died five days apart. They likely had internal parasites too if they were wild caught. We were heartbroken and so upset. We will NEVER buy from DFW reptarium again. Don't support this place. They are crawling with mites. read more

I really want to support this place as the employees have been helpful. However, I do take a huge issue with how the animals are kept, which is why I give this establishment a 1-star review. The first complaint is that the owner has several of his personal pets in REALLY small enclosures. One is a 8-9ft boa constrictor but it's in a display case no larger than maybe 7x1x1. The poor animal can barely move in there. It used to be in a larger exhibit before they relocated a few doors down. However the new location has much more space for a larger enclosure for this animal so this is just unacceptable. I also noticed on my last trip that they acquired some new carpet pythons. Immediately I noticed that the snakes were soaking in their water dish and upon closer inspection, noticed black specs moving on the snakes. Mites! Lastly, this just continues from the last point but, a year ago I purchased my own carpet python from them and he had mites. I had to do some extensive work to rid the animal of the parasites which included a soaking in water and dish soap for days at a time. Washing and rinsing him multiple times. And also fumigating the enclosure. Not extremely difficult to do but, when you spend almost $1000 you expect everything to be tip top. I'll continue to go buy feeders from them but just getting this info out there as again, they are a friendly bunch but and I live really close, they definitely need to step up their quality control and care of the animals. read more

This last trip we went for an Exoterra upgrade for our crested gecko and of course to check out the critters and what not. Staff knows their stuff and I haven't run into anyone there unpleasant. I have several reptiles but the ball python is one that has giving me gray hairs. His latest hunger strike started in May. Now it's October and he was starting to act hungry. We'd spent a bit on vet and wasted food for him when my vet suggested to try live prey. Of course in Fort Worth there are NOT places to get live. So today I made an 80 mile round trip on my motorcycle to get what we might need. The guys here were knowledgeable and amazing. The place is gorgeous and so cool. I do all bioactive for all 4 of my various reptiles and I will be coming back here for more than just food!!!! So today with their help my python has broken his 5 month fast. Thanks guys! read more

Took my boyfriend here to "look" at snakes, which I would never EVER own in my lifetime. No matter how much he tried to convince me they are docile and aren't ready to strike you every 2 seconds (thank you NatGeo and your rattlesnake specials) ... so I figured this is where he could look at them and hold them and not ever ask for one again. Right? ...and now I own a piebald ball python... The staff of all ages is knowledgeable, I don't really take it seriously that previous reviews weren't too thrilled about the age range of employees or they weren't the greatest customer service reps. Teenagers with jobs?! Sweet!!! I figured out who the employees were rather quickly when I saw a "young kid" getting ready to do a live feed with a Sailfin Dragon. And on two separate visits within a span of two days, I was asked by 4 different people if I needed help or had any questions. I also am not afraid to ask a bunch of random people wearing lizard or snake-themed graphic shirts if they work there. As for pricing, all I can recommend is that you do your research. You should have basic knowledge of the animal you're about to purchase, all of the supplies it will need and the financial investment over its lifespan. I didn't make an impulse purchase. I came back on a different day to make my purchase after I thought about it, compiled everything I could from online... and I had an excellent experience speaking with the owner, David, about the snake itself, pricing, etc. I got an awesome deal on my snake, very comparable to market prices... best part is that I can call or come to the store any time (during business hours) and get advice or the supplies I need. It shouldn't be lost on us all to support small businesses over big-box retailers. The place is squeaky clean, they have a huge assortment of animals and some really beautiful habitats on display. Plus, wish I had gotten names, but there are two employees there that made me want to hold a snake as much as I love holding puppies. read more

I have visited the store several times and have observed snakes soaking in their water bowls (a sign of mites or dehydration). Some of their ball pythons were also emaciated. My experiences purchasing an animal and feeders was also terrible. The animal had parasites when purchased it, but was not showing visual signs yet. I later learned this from the expensive vet I took it to. The feeders (rats and mice) were bleeding from their nose. Which is a sign they have been thawed before and refrozen - a health hazard for animals to eat. read more
