My 13 year old daughter wanted a simple betta fish. Despite doing a lot of research on best practices in caring for a betta, she had vast luck with one from PetSmart. We tried exotic aquatics. Despite the fact that she was only buying a little betta, she was given the full attention of the staff who helped her, who also asked her all kinds of questions about her set-up, what area we lived in (specifically our water source), and her experience so far. They listened to what she said and tailored guidance and advice for her, taking her every bit as seriously as if she was buying a full saltwater system. For a few bucks, they sold her five gallons of pre-treated water ideal for a betta. She loves the betta she got, and this one is lively, healthy, and happy. read more

We visited this store for my son's fifth birthday and were greeted quickly at the door, but unfortunately the experience went downhill from there. The employee who helped us immediately told us that any fish we bought would die. This was frustrating and disappointing, especially since my husband had visited weeks prior, followed all of the advice from another associate, purchased the recommended items, and even called twice during the week to confirm everything was set up correctly. Instead of listening to him explain the prep work and care he had already done, she cut him off and jumped straight to the conclusion that we weren't prepared. To make matters worse, this happened right in front of our son, who left feeling upset and saying the employees were "mean." I truly appreciate the passion and education around proper fish care, but the way it was delivered felt dismissive and discouraging rather than helpful. At one point she even pointed out a fish that "could live in Dr. Pepper," which only added to our confusion--if that's the case, why insist the fish wouldn't survive in our carefully prepared tank? Overall, she let us purchase only a few fish which she said she wouldn't replace "when they died" and we left feeling disappointed. We value knowledgeable staff, but would have appreciated more listening, patience, and understanding--especially on a special occasion for our child. read more

I live in McKinney, but saw this place online and they have great reviews. I came into the store a week or two ago for help in getting a tank for my aquatic dwarf frogs. The people working there were so nice and helpful. I've had my frogs for almost 3 years but I got them in a pre made tank, so I was pretty clueless on what to do. I just went back today for more plants, and again I was helped by a very friendly employee. I'll continue to drive a little further to come to this shop. read more

7/7/24: First time visiting. Was greeted upon entering and met Christian. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I brought a small container of my aquarium water for testing. He noted that I had high nitrates and provided an option to bring down those levels. He explained the different types of cichlids and I learned that I have Mbuna cichlids. We picked out four of them and they are doing well at home. The store is very clean, a lot of variety, and a great selection for fresh and saltwater aquariums. Plenty of parking available and easy to get to. Would definitely visit again! read more

I love the variety of plants, fish and supplies. The staff is very knowledgeable for sure. The only drawback for me is lack of customer service. Too often I go in and I get they get busy and maybe only three employees are there but no one even aknowledges me. I'm totally happy to wait my turn but it is so important to aknowledge someone entering your establishment just so they know you see them and will get to them. I've waited around next to the area where the fish I'm interested in are and kinda wait to see if I get eye contact or a wave and nada. I think if they trained a bit better on connecting with guests they would be even better. It's a shame this last time I came in - I just needed some shrimp and I all three employees we busy and it wasn't like they didn't see me. Don't feel flustered just let me know you'll help me when you can and then I'm content. I just went in here with my child to ask some questions about fish as we are new to ownership. We asked about goldfish and were told we needed a bigger tank that we had. I simply asked why I was able to have one in a fish bowl when I was a child and she said it must have been young when I murdered it. Lol. I was in there with my 8 year old and he started crying and asking why I would murder my fish. I was 5 years old when I had him in that bowl according to my mother because I was to young to remember. One particular staff member was exceptionally rude. He seemed to have a goal to insult potential customers to prove how smart he thinks he is. I'm sure he's very knowledgeable about fish care, but so am I. Without knowing anything about my water quality, my tank set up, or anything else he proceeded to tell me (unsolicited) what he thinks I should do. The fish in the store are gorgeous. They looked healthy and the tanks appear to be well kept. It's unfortunate that they have an egotistical know-it-all scaring customers away. This place is great! There's a great variety of freshwater and saltwater fishes as well as live plants, tanks, and other aquarium necessities. I've come a couple times and received great service both times! I have a freshwater tank, but have been wanting a saltwater tank too because I really want a clownfish (they have such cute and pretty clownfish here). They're saltwater tanks are also so gorgeous!! The second time I went in to get some guppies for my tank. They had a lot of guppies to choose from and a variety of colors as well. I wanted all my guppies to be different, so I went with a cobra and a dumbo mosaic guppy. They had a couple of really pretty dumbo mosaic guppies in a tank with plants, but for some reason, the guy said they weren't for sale... The cobra was priced reasonably, but the dumbo mosaic was a lot more expensive- I guess it makes sense since it is a lot prettier and the fins/tail is bigger too... The moss balls here are also cheaper than what I've seen at PetSmart. Overall, this place is a great place to get fish!! The water is always super clean and all the fish look great and healthy! read more

Their discus looked a little sick (clamped fins, dark coloring, not swimming, struggling to breathe and very thin) but you never know the circumstances surrounding that. A lot of their products (not livestock) didn't have pricing and the used equipment was a little pricey. Overall I was impressed and did purchased some food. read more

This is a great little fish shop. Don't expect big store inventory or variety. But, this is my kind of place. Small town feel, personal service and always friendly. I live near by and love to stop by from time to time to see any new exotic fish. Really good fresh water selection and usually one or two species I'd never seen. Preston is particularly knowledgeable and fun to talk to. He's an avid fish man too, so he knows what he's talking about. Sure, you can save a couple of bucks at Petco or Pet Smart, but I'd rather help the small business owner. I even buy all my supplies and food here. The big chains will always survive or get bought by even bigger conglomerates. I prefer to support the American dream of ownership. Please go! Just to see what they have. The store is alittle small and when I went they might have had 2 people working and 2 customers. I saw they where busy but no one asked me or even acknowledged I had come in. I was there to buy a salt water aquarium set up my friend told me about but decided to go down the street after waiting 30 mins or so and still no one saying they would help me in a min or even hi did you have a question. Sounds small or petty but if I'm buying a $600 set up I don't want to have to beg you for some assistance. Either way I found a better deal and more selection down the street. read more

They do have a decent selection of fish here but the staff is kind of hit or miss. One guy told me a Indian dwarf puffer wasn't gonna be aggressive but it ended up nipping a few of my fish. I researched after these incidents and everything I read says they are very aggressive. It ended up killing a few that lose their fins. Everyone was nice though just wish some would just let me know if they didn't actually know rather than saying it's fact. For example, I was there yesterday and the guy helping me said he wouldn't sex them because they were so young. I appreciate that! read more

I typically go to Dallas North for all of my salt water aquarium needs, but I accidentally stumbled across this amazing spot while stopping by a local business. They have a great selection of coral frags at a great price. The larger corals are also very reasonably priced, compared to other stores. The selection of salt water fish was good as well. The employees were knowledgeable and friendly, helping me identify which corals would be best for my setup. I purchased 3 frags and got 1 free with a special they had. During the bagging of my coral, one of the guys dropped the coral on the floor. He told me it should be ok, but if there were any issues to bring it back. Unfortunately the coral didn't make it over night. I brought it back and they took care of me without any issues. I'll definitely stop by every time I'm in the area to see what new frags they have! read more

If you're looking for a pet store with the worst return/ guarantee policy this is the place. Exotic Aquatics told us they offer a 24 hour guarantee, shortest guarantee I have heard of at a fish store. Even a generic store like Petco offers a 14 day return policy, some private stores offer a month long guarantee as long as your water is within normal range. I wanted to support a smaller fish store but can tell you right now I will make sure every single person in all of the fish groups knows not to buy from here. Upon entering the small shop you might think it can't hold much but it seems like just the right amount of space. it's easy to find things (well organized) and see prices and does not feel crowded even though it was kinda busy. the fish, coral, and freshwater plant selection is to my satisfaction. There are loads of wood and coral decor, but other than that I couldn't find very many decorations besides some tasteless plastic plants. The staff was approachable and very well educated. This place is small and over stocked with dead or sick fish in the tanks. The owner/manager is very rude and he is giving preferential treatment to his caucasian customers. Was there two weeks ago we wanted to start our first saltfish tank they were so helpful gave us the tips n instructions on how to do it. We went back yesterday for all of our fishes they have the 30% off going on for the weekend. We so happy and proud pur fish tank.
