I came here as a complete beginner to this beautiful hobby. After countless YouTube videos watched on how to properly set up/care for aquariums, almost every YouTuber said to just stop by your local aquarium store and ask questions. I walked in the store and Michael greeted me Immediately. I started an hour conversation by saying "hey, stupid question...." He was able to really inform me about easy beginner plants for fresh water aquariums, substrate, sponge filtrations, water testing kits. I've been here 3 times in the past 2 weeks because they offer free water testings by the employees! Super important to test your new aquarium before adding fish! They write all the information down on a paper for your own documentation. Found my new hobby, and didn't feel discouraged asking "stupid questions". read more

Awesome little aquarium store! I had been buying all my saltwater stuff online, but between the expensive overnight shipping and not always healthy livestock, I decided to look elsewhere. Typically when you buy local, prices all over the price and tend to be way too high. Aquatic Designs has very competitive pricing and a pretty nice selection. I bought 3 LPS frags for $50, and 20 astraea/margarita snails for $30. Pretty good prices given inflation! I'll definitely be returning and hope others check this place out as well! read more

We came in to get SNAILS just cheap little snails, the ladies working knew this. They treated my daughter and I like we were going to spend hundreds of dollars. They did not mind that we looked at EVERY TANK 6 times and got all excited over baby star fish. When the lady noticed that one of the fresh water snails we picked out didn't have the best looking snail she just GAVE us some calcium for him! We will 100% make the 20min drive to be back for ALL our fishy needs after our visit yesterday 5 stars does not even cover the service we got yesterday. I was pleased to find that the staff is incredibly helpful and cares very much for the aquatic life! Prices are fair, selection is limited for freshwater but I noticed a variety of sea creatures and decorations. Specifically there are beautiful coral chunks and neon shrimps that I couldn't stop fawning over. It took a while to get help, with good reason. Tons of potential at this place but the aiptasia is everywhere and I just can't reco for livestock or coral. Also was told they do have a flatworm problem so definitely dip anything you get. Just be wary of what your buying. Staff was great though so they get 3 stars. Aiptasia ain't easy and they do have peppermint shrimp everywhere so they're trying. read more

Overall the store was very clean and the man who checked us out gave us a great deal on some plants since we bought several. The employees were busy cleaning the aquariums and we did have to find someone to help us check out but overall we really liked their store and their prices were reasonable. I also really liked the effort they took at aquascaping their freshwater aquariums, they looked really good and their driftwood was beautiful. Highly recommended if you're in the area. read more

So I had a day off and spent the whole day going to all of the aquarium stores on yelp in DFW. This place was by far the oldest and most run down store and just felt a little dirty. I wish I could give zero stars. We came in to get some salt water fish. I pointed out how one of the tanks had sick fish with ich. We were reassured the fish we want from a different tank were not sick as they were from a different filtration system. Turns out the guy lied. The fish we brought home ended up having ich the same night. All the previous fish we had in the tank also ended up with ich 2 days after. All my fish died. That was hundreds of dollars that we lost down the drain. I am extremely upset and all the guy had to offer us was some medication that was worth $8 which didn't help even though we followed directions. And I know for a fact that the first guy lied about the filtration system because when we came in to get the medication he told me that all those tanks work on the same filtration system. All their fish are sick, they know about it and don't care to sell sick fish that contaminates people's tanks. When we came in for the medication we saw them continuing to sell the sick fish to other customers knowing their fish are sick. This is just horrible!!! read more

Great place to shop or browse. I love taking my kids in there while I get water or live stock. They'll look at all the fish and it keeps them busy while I'll take care of business. African cichlid selection is pretty limited. There us a show tank when you walk in but none of those fish are available for sale anywhere in the store. If you like peacocks, they have a large selection. They are $20 when the same size are $10 else where. The people here are very personable. This was the first store of four we visited today. We almost bought here because of the guy with dread locks. He is a great asset to the store. read more

Fish seem healthy and happy. I notice very few sick or dead ones in the tanks. Compared to some places I've been, surprisingly some business don't have feeders, but here they do. I am happy to be asked if I wanted a male or female feeder because I was primarily using them for water testing. At the moment, it's been a year and they're thriving, all fat, thriving with their children lol. I like their guppies. They have a variety of larger guppies usually available on any day. Also, if they don't have specific inventories sometimes the person working there has a fish hobby that they are willing to share or sell off to the side. I remember coming for freshwater shrimps and being offered shrimps from a hobby tank. The only fish I wish were taken better care of would be the bettas. Their the only ones who seem out of it. I also which they had more of a variety instead of two cups available. read more

Went in on a Sunday evening and bought 10 little schooling fish and 1 pleco. Less than 12 hrs later, the pleco died. Took it back the next day, along with water sample and was told our ph was high and they wouldn't replace or refund. My son went back and looked at the tank that the pleco was in and there were 3 other dead ones. I showed this this to the manager and she said it was still our ph and just a coincidence that there were 3 dead fish in a tank that 24 hours ago housed our fish.... Really?!? That defiant over a $5 fish? Horrible customer service. We had just gotten into fish/aquariums about 3 months ago and this was our first trip to your store. You lost a lot of future sales over $5. read more

If I could give a zero I would. They had sold us a deceased pufferfish and then gave us bad advice on how to fix the water, because of it. We went back 2 more times after that because all our fish started dying. They continued not to listen and give us horrible advice and we went from a beautiful colorful tank to 1 fish swimming around by himself and when we asked them questions they acted like they didn't care. read more

I was impressed with the health of the fish in this store. There were not a lot of floating dead fish as seen in a lot of chain stores and they were energetic with full fins. The person who helped me was knowledgeabl and went out of his way to be sure I knew the return policy, was satisfied with my fish, and even carried the box of fish out to my car. It's a bit more of a drive for me but I'll be back there for sure. Did I mention their prices beat the bigger chain stores also? I recommend this business. read more

Terrible place!! Bought a "pre-owned" Aqurium here and they didn't follow up with their promise to complete the order. I bought the aquarium with not glass top, they said that they would have one made at a agreed upon price. Long story short, never received it! Total rip-off!! It was a hexagon Aqurium so when I had glass cut down the street from my house it was a fortune to have cut. The staff there are very young and rude, I couldn't find a responsible adult there. The woman that helped me there was extremely unfriendly. We all have our bad days I guess. The review rating also reflects the quality of their product, which was not impressive and looked to be mail ordered. She did not know where their sand was from and if you're a serious hobbyist you should always speculate as to the regional origin for anything you put in your tank. I recently bought two fish from this store. I noticed a lot of dead fish in the tanks. I thought I saw ich on some of the fish, and I also noticed a fish that was swimming around with half a face. I asked the guy who was helping me if the fish were ok, since so many were dead. He said they were so I still bought the two fish I had gone in for hoping for the best. Usually I come here and leave happy... Came here to window shop in-between work appointments just now and leaving pretty ticked off... I wanted the powder blue tang they have for sale. The guy working was trying to catch it and the lady who works here told him to stop because the tank has corals in it. The lady was also wearing a winter coat in 78 degrees with her hands in her pockets the entire 30 minutes i was there. 5 customers were in the store and she was off to her self most the time. She turned selling the fish down to me... I asked when the owner will be here she told me sometime between now, 4:00 and 7:00. Can't you call him lady? Or try to get the dam fish out, take your time it's fine but try you lazy... I know Walmart employees who try harder... Anyways, i don't live that close and I have things to do so I don't have time to wait out front for the next three hours for the owner to arrive. This fish store needs some serious attention! Their saltwater display tanks were a wreck! So much brown algae that the bottom of the tank was almost one complete piece! Lack of maintenance in all saltwater tanks! Overpriced BABY clownfish that aren't healthy and very common breeds. And 6-8 sand sifting goby's in chunky crush coral tanks, they were so skinny I almost wanted to buy them just to turn them into my favorite fish store to rescue them!!! They eat by sifting sand, there was no nutrition they could eat! Their tanks had poorly done filtration-systems that looked like an air filter from a car shop! No sumps just filter and return system. I honestly left feeling sorry for the fish! No attention to customers by staff, I was there along with many other customers and didn't get asked once if we needed help, they were busy talking about star wars in the middle of the store! Whatever good business that kept this going for 25 years is done died. Will not be buying anything from here! read more

I have an aquarium of fresh water fish. I am very fond and attached to my fish, especially my angel fish who interact with me on a daily basis like any other pet. I take seriously the care of all animals including my fish. I bought a few extra fish from Aquatic Design. They showed no sign of illness at the store. Almost immediately after I put them in the tank one showed signs of either ich or fungus. Wthin 30 hours one one of the fish was dead. Then one by one of my smaller fish died. Finally I saw that they were getting ich all over them. At this moment I have lost 7 fish. I just treated the tank for ich. The store mentioned above had to know their fish were sick or at least compromised. Now my tank is poisoned and the whole tank is in jeopardy. I believe there is no excuse for this happening. None. Never again! I hope this review helps someone avoid the same fate. read more
