Let me just start off by saying that the entire staff, including the manager, is amazing. They helped me get situated with some returns I needed to make with fish aquarium equipment that I had purchased which did not work as planned, and made it super easy to do so. From there, Niko helped me get everything I needed to set up my new saltwater tank, which I'm so excited to have cycling as I write this review. I've been coming to this location for many years. On the weekends you will typically find various rescue organizations holding adoption events like, Kitten Rescue and Bunny Luv Rescue. In fact, I adopted one of my fur babies from Kitten Rescue after seeing him at one of PetCo's adoption events - funny thing is he's a dog and not a cat. I remember not wanting it to be an impulse adoption so I waited a week before contacting the foster to see if he was still available. She said to me, "I'm so happy to called because everyone at Petco said, 'You are the best pet mommy.'" That was 9 years ago. The store is very clean and well organized. It is easy to find essential supplies for your pet. I have dogs, a cat, a bunny, and fish so it is nice that I can pick up what I need for them in one place. The people that work here have a genuine love for animals and are happy to tell you about their pets, which I love. Everyone that I have encountered have always been very friendly and helpful, especially Colby he is fantastic! This facility has a groomer and vet clinic on site. There is free parking in the lot in addition to street parking. The lot can get busy due to the other stores that are in the shopping center. You also have to be careful not to park on the street between 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. during the week our else your car will be towed. read more

My bf took our cat with a gimp leg to an appointment here only to be told by the veterinarian herself that she was not able to get our cat out of the carrier because he was hissing. After realizing he was being charged $70 for an evaluation that didn't happen, he called the store manager in hopes to get a refund. She claimed an evaluation had taken place but why would the doctor claim she was not able to even get the cat out of the carrier and even offered medication to be able to do it next time???? So either Dr.Casey lied to scam us out of more money for another appointment and the medication OR the store manage, Andrea, lied to get us to pay for literally nothing being done. I returned to my car at 3 pm & it was already loaded onto a flatbed & heading out ($65) Pasadena citation & impounded($200) & a additional special fine from The Pasadena City Hall ($150) TOTAL: $415 .00 plus Uber, I'm not sure why it's not posted in Petco or at least customers given a heads up from the staff that the flatbed tow trucks are there!!!!!! I brought my dog for the first time for grooming and nail clipping. Manny was very attentive to my dogs needs and was very helpful/knowledgeable about what they recommended. They took about 1hr30minutes or so. I was very pleased with how wonderful my dog came out! I was very hesitant about bringing my dog because I just wasn't sure how she would react, but Manny said she did wonderful! I will definitely bring her back again! read more

This review is for the Vetco clinic that is somehow part of, but not really Petco. But you make appointments through the Petco website and the Vetco is right at the corner of the Petco store. I signed up for a rabies vaccine that was advertised as $28. Just a rabies shot for a dog. The assistant later informs me that the vaccine clinic is run by Petco and not Vetco. To get a vaccine at Vetco you'll need a 70 odd dollars exam plus another 30 odd dollars for the rabies shot. I could get a better check up at an actual animal hospital and not a pet store clinic. This is misleading practice by Petco/Vetco, if you're advertising a 28 dollar rabies vaccine program, then offer it and be clear when and where it is valid. Clearly not the case here. Good thing they let me decline services and not charge me anything. Still a waste of time. The store needs to be clear on what they offer as far as rabies vaccine goes. To make things worse, Vetco says I needed to make the rabies shot appointment at the other side of the door. Went to Petco, who then points me back to Vetco at the other side for appointment. This is worse than the DMV and I would not personally trust my dog to a business that can't even correctly advertise their services, costs, or even who runs the vaccinations. Go to the Pasadena Humane Society for rabies shot instead, or to an animal hospital that has more capabilities than a pet store vet clinic that's located at the corner of the store. Seriously stunned that this spot doesn't have 4+ stars! This is one of the best Petco's I've been to. Customer for years and it consistently gets better bc many of the same employees still work there!!! Shout to Colby the manager - he's great. I've never experienced anything negative, but I'm friendly and cordial (like attracts like!). Highly recommend using their Pick Up option and they usually have my items gathered within an hour window. It saves my husband the annoyance of searching for stuff he doesn't know where it is haha Especially during the Covid-19 times it's convenient and if something isn't available I'm not charged - easy! They also have Curb Side now but I haven't tried it. Our vet is also attached to this location (Thrive) and i also extend the same sentiments to that business. They also partner with Kitten Rescue for the enclosures and the Bunny Rescue for adoption events on Sundays! I love going there on Sun night usually there are tons of rabbits there!! Parking lot can be annoying sometimes but it's not their fault. Tip - park on the street or at the other lots before / it if it looks crowded. We recently got our new puppy, Trooper, and was looking for puppy socialization events for him. Lo and behold, this Petco has FREE puppy playtime events every Saturday and Sunday! We've been going for the last 2 months and our little guy loves it!! The playtime is located in the middle of the store and is secured so puppies can't get out. The events are on Saturdays & Sundays from 1:00 to 1:30 pm. Puppies up to 6 months (dont remember the minimum age) with vaccinations are welcome. The event has 3 sectioned areas and puppies get to take turns playing with others in a one-on-one session with one if the store trainers monitoring behavior. My little is a bit excited & loves to play rough so he plays with some of the bigger pups. Shout out to Michaela, Trooper's favorite trainer!! The rest of the store has a wide selection of dog, cat, reptile & other furries accessories, food & daily needs. It is located in a busy plaza retail area near the Fillmore Gold Line station. There is a private parking lot but gets full fast. I'd recommend getting there early for timed events. I love that this Petco has a great sense of community and love for pets. They have adoption events every weekend & I've seen SPCA events too. read more

Please teach Jonathan what "no bag" means. I appreciate him asking me if I wanted a bag, and I clearly said "no bag". After I pulled out my bank card I noticed he was putting things in a bag, to which I said, "I did not want a bag. Please take them out." Then he said, "I already charged you for the bag, so can I just give it to you?" To which I answered, calmly, "What part of 'I don't want a bag' don't you understand? It's not about the ten cents, it's about having a bag I don't need. No bag." But of course, he left the $0.10 charge on the receipt all the same! People in service industries should be paid more, but pay better attention please! I'm sure that management will leave another helpful response, but no one from the store ever does anything. Be very cautious when you are booking grooming here. The website doesn't say anything about this, but if your dog has any allergies, and some redness on their skin, they will not take your dog. They wouldn't take my dog because she has cancer. I guess that is understandable, but they called me when I was five minutes away from the appointment. beware beware beware if you are having your dog groomed. i took my two dogs into petco weeks ago for their regular grooming. when i returned to pick them up early evening i noticed that teddy's hair around his mouth was still too long which makes it easy to trap food so i asked the groomer to please trim this further. teddy is about 9 years old, rescue and has only one tooth. he is sweet natured and generally cooperative. as i watched the groomer trim his mouth i noticed all of a sudden that blood was dripping quite vigorously on the floor. it seems the groomer, not being careful or patient cut teddy's mouth with ths scissors. i yelled for her to bring teddy to me which she eventually did but she would not release him to me. she said she had to keep him there until they can get medical treatment. so they denied me the ability to take my dog to the vet. then they started making calls to find an emergency hospital to treat teddy. i was very anxious at all the blood coming out of his mouth. he was loosing a good amount of blood. during this time, nobody ever took the time to tell me what was being done or that they were contacting hospitals. i had to overhear this and eventually demand that someone tell me what was going on. i also heard that the vet they found was stating they may need to sedate teddy to treat him and that that could be risky in the event he had a heart condition. i was not okay with that risk and teddy was continuing to bleed. the manager said she would get her keys from the back and then follow me to the vet. i waited 5 mins and finally took teddy from them and in the car administered pressure to his mouth to stop the bleeding. as long as i put pressure on the gape in his tounge the bleeding was being controlled. my gf and i had tix to attend an event at universal that evening and had to miss it to take care of teddy. it took a lot of time, holding pressure on his mouth, until the bleeding slowed. eventually later that evening it scabbed and stopped although i needed to watch him to make sure he didn't open the wound. very stressful evening and dangerous. all because the groomer was not careful, or patient enough to manage the very sharp tool in her hand. it only takes a second to make a deadly mistake. thankfully we survived this. but to add insult to injury, petco only offered to refund the cost of the grooming fees. given the circumstances, i would have expected more from petco as a sign of goodwill and remorse. ultimately managers like colby or district supervisors like fadi mansour refused to do anything more for us. i will never take my pets there again. when it mattered, petco was a corporate entity and poorly suited or motivated at the personal and human decency level. i have attached pics as evidence. please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. read more

I want to start off by saying I drive over 40 miles to this location since they have a saltwater fish selection that's a step over most Petco's. This visit I picked up two corals and they were advertised as %25 off all corals, I double checked with the gentleman that assisted me and he confirmed the ones I selected were indeed %25 off. When I got to the register, I was helped by Alex (at least that what she said her name was) short dark hair, heavy black eye makeup and multiple facial piercings . Alex may be the rudest employee I have ever encountered at a Petco. When she rang up my two corals, informed her they were supposed to be %25 off, she paused, looked at me then stated "im going to check" I responded with "ok, I asked the guy who helped me before he bagged them" she smirks and say "I'm going to ask him" I responded "go ahead" while waiting for a response on her radio she sarcastically says "they usually write it on the bag" I said "ok, but there was a better way to go about it" she said she didn't care. I said I know you don't care about giving poor customer service then she shrugged and smiled... she calls over the radio to ask "did you help someone with two corals he's saying they're %25 off" after a while no response she asks again, then someone (obviously annoyed) says (just got to him) then the gentleman from aquatics confirmed they were indeed %25 off.... She offered no apology or remorse for her piss poor attitude. This encounter really made me wonder if it was even worth it to come back. After having a new puppy, we found we needed new bedding and soft toys. This is the cleanest pet store I've been to, and customer service the best I've experienced at any pet store. The selection is pretty good, although there is a trend to merge puppy and adult foods... They also have dog training classes, which I recommend for any puppy, as socialization is important at this age. If you do have a puppy, be sure she has a few shots, and kept away until the vet says it's okay. Our puppy is like a new baby, so nothing but the best! read more

This is THE location I always go to. Their customer service is excellent! I was helped by Matt at the cashier a few days ago. He has a great attitude and willingness to help. I had printed a coupon with a barcode at home and somehow the scanner didn't read it so he had to manually enter the code to apply the discount, but even for that extra trouble, he was very accommodating! Also, I have been meaning to write about Edgardo (I hope I spelled his name right) for a looong time because he is always amazing! One time, he was bringing big shipments into the store and saw us in line, and he dropped everything and immediately rushed to help us at the cashier. He always has great smile and provides top-notch customer service. Always great to see him there, we are all in good hands! Every time I've shopped here (4 )I've had to track down assistance in the area I need it: aquatics. When I'm eventually helped, the staff-members who have assisted me have been genuine and pretty educated about the field. The poor beta fish section is likely to make you sad, because they just are frozen still essentially. I saw 2 dead minnows in the tank when I had 20 minutes of waiting for help. im new to the area and wanted to take my cat Leona in for a routine annual checkup and ended up making an appointment here. Saw after I had gone that the reviews for this vetco are pretty terrible but I had a good experience so thought I would share! They got me into the exam room almost immediately, got some initial info in with the vet tech/nurse (? I dont know what her title is) and she was very nice and gentle with her! Dr. Chavez was the vet I saw who was also super nice and gentle with Leona, informed me that I was overdue on some vaccines which she got done right after some head to tail checks. While I was waiting the girl at the front desk helped me with all the payment and Leona was done and out pretty quickly, the entire process was maybe like 30 mins which I thought was quick! I do agree with other reviews that not having clear pricing is kind of a shady practice so I will drop what I paid here and hopefully that helps! Honestly the worst Petco I've been to and the reason I'm canceling my Vitals Membership. I use to get my dogs groomed often at another location but recently relocated to Pasadena and they've let me down each time. I've given them multiple chances and each visit I have some kind of issue. First time I went, I arrived on time, I spent 20 minutes waiting for someone to get my dogs for their grooming appointment. I asked someone for help since no one has come out despite running their door bell (turns out to be the manager) and he went inside and spoke with them. Then comes out and tells me my groomer went to lunch, I asked him what am I suppose to do and how was that professional to go on lunch without a cover knowing he had an appointment, then the manager said because "I was late", I stated I was there waiting on time and he can pull up surveillance footage if he'd like but I'd like cancel my appointment and leave. He then back tracked and apologized and then tried to get someone to take my dogs in right away??? I let them and told myself I'd never come back. Only reason I've been back is because I keep getting rewards for the Vitals Membership that's ANNUAL and I don't want the money to go to waste.... Each time I've gone to get my dogs groomed, they've kept me waiting +15mins to get checked in and it takes +2hours to groom my small chihuahuas which the other petco location would take 1 hour at most. I'm tired lol don't go here, go to another pet store instead! There's so many to choose from in Pasadena! In addition, I've had issues with calling before a grooming appointment and no one picks up....ever. This last time I just kept calling knowing that if the phone line didn't stop ringing someone would get fed up and answer and finally after the 6th try, someone picked up the phone with an attitude :) read more

I come here to pick up feeder goldfish for my red-ear slider! I think its good to train my turtle to eat real fish instead of just turtle pellets. As I got my turtle illegally in Chinatown for $5, *maybe* one day I will also release it illegally in the wilds of California after a hike... Edgardo is the man to talk to about fish, tanks and general aquatic needs. He's been working here for a few years, and he just has a personal passion working with aquariums. Booked a appointment for my pet a week in advance for a vaccination and when I arrived I had to wait outside because a sign outside said chow time from 12-1pm and ended up getting in at 1:15pm then when I went inside I was told "We don't have the vaccine for your pet until tomorrow". Hands down one of the best Petcos. Everyone is so incredibly friendly whenever I go! Our visit was exceptionally good because of the customer service provided to us by Eguardo. He's always walking around, smiling at customers, and is always eager to help! I was walking around with my mom and he briskly walks right up to us with a smile asking, "Hi, guys! Is there anything that I can help you with?" My mom wanted to find some Cosequin for our cat and he was literally able to find it in 45 seconds. What I liked about Andrew is that when he Mrs my dog, he was gentle and told me he was going to take his time to make sure my dog was happy. As I got there my baby was done and was excited to see me. The only reason I'm giving a 2 star is because Dawn who works for "Just For Dogs" is the ONLY friendly person there, she is welcoming and takes her time helping you and she's patient. I've shopped here for years and seen this place decline... it's a very gloomy feeling when you walk in. When you ask someone to help you, they take their sweet time coming to help and could care less. They rush you so they don't have to deal with helping a customer The girl working the cashier area with the bleach blond/ green/yellow hair has zero personality and won't even talk to you. It's a hassle for her to go out of her way when asked for help on a item she's ringing up. When asking advise on a product forget it, it's like talking to a mummy .. Cody .. I think that's his name the manager. Has zero manager skills and could care less about the customer. If he sees a situation come up, he ignores it and pretends he doesn't hear what's going on next to him.
