I adopted a stray kitten that appeared in my garage. I don't know the first thing about cats and I went to petco to get myself set up. I was standing in the cat food aisle when Jack walked by and asked if I needed any help. I told him that I just adopted a kitten and I was a bit lost. He asked me about the cat, how old he was, what kind of cat he was and he was excited with me about my new pet. He got me set up with not only the right food, cat litter, liners, water etc. But he gave me lots of information for when my kitten got older. I walked out of there feeling confident that I knew what I was doing and had everything I needed. This was an absolutely amazing experience and I am beyond grateful that Jack was there to help me out. When I walk into this petco, all the employees are super friendly and upbeat. I really love the environment they create for customers here. It's rare to find that now a day. This is definitely a great spot for shopping for your pet! read more

I've been coming to this Petco for a long time and I know the employees have to deal with a lot especially around the holidays. There was this man and I have been waiting to see if he would make a review. Which he finally did. Giovanni G. This Petco team really does care for their animals and will not just sell to anyone, I have gotten a guinea pig and some fish from them before. I'm sure he got questioned about habitats and what not and probably got upset about that. I remember Elena and she has mentioned before that customers do get upset about that. I get he might have been frustrated but I was in line at the time and watched him walk out the front with the fish (he did NOT pay for them) and did this in front of his child. Everything about the store is great. I love the selection and everyone who works there is helpful and kind. My only reason for the lower rating is that it's located next to a gun store and that makes me super uncomfortable. Like it shares the same parking lot and everything. Really disconcerting to park next to people loading guns and ammo into their cars. I keep going back to this store for the service but because of the guns the parking lot makes me feel super unsafe. I wish there was a different Petco location in the Pasadena area I could go to and feel safer at. read more

I'm reviewing VETCO, the vetinerinary clinic attached to Petco on So. Arroyo Parkway. I have a senior cat who was born with some issues, one being extreme allergies (nothing more serious than that -- have done all the tests). I go through about one bottle of eye drops for him every 2 years. Due to pandemic I had run out. I made an appointment at VETCO. Of course, there was a $70 fee for the exam that must happen first. I'm fine with that. Decent price. However, Dr. Casey did not want to prescribe him his eye drops because she said "come back when it's happening again" FOR ANOTHER $70. I explained that I had to wait three weeks for this appointment and asked if I was supposed to allow my cat to suffer for three weeks until he could get in? She basically shrugged her shoulders and said, "yes, you'll have to come back." That's when I realized it was all about the money for this vet clinic. They don't care about the animals. It was allergy eye drops, not pain meds! I won't go back to see Dr. Casey. I hear there is another vet there. However, I'm now out $70 and no eye allergy meds for the senior cat! I have to go somewhere else where it's not about the money, but about care of the animals. On the upside - The vet tech, LUIS, was AMAZING. So kind and caring with my cat as he weighed and measured him and did all the exam tests. He was also sympathetic to my situation. I paid to have him trim my cats nails on site I liked him so much. If he decides to ever be a vet he'd have my support. You have to have a love for animals, not just money to be a good vet! Also, on my way out, a man came in for a scheduled appointment, the front desk person (she needs more training) told him his appointment wasn't for another hour and a half and he'd need to come back. He showed her the text with the time it was which was then. She just said, "Sorry, you'll have to come back." I felt so bad for him. What if he lived far away? Terrible customer service. read more

We went there for grooming. After reading great reviews about Malcolm, we decided to give it a try as our Little Bear was said very challenging for his previous groomer. Malcolm was very patient and took time to get to know Little Bear before he started. He did a great job! He went through with us about what he did. He didn't complain anything about Little Bear being aggressive (which upset us a lot last time when the groomer lectured us about how challenging the little one was and how much extra work he had to do to groom him). Malcolm told us that Little Bear struggled a little at the beginning when he was shaving his front leg, but he said that's NORMAL, and he stopped to play with him a little bit. The parking lot is small but I found a space. As I entered, a worker asked if I was making a purchase. I said yes and she pushed the door open. I thought something was wrong with the door. Store wasn't crowded. As I entered the store, it smells really bad. It really needs some air circulation. I saw workers walking around but no one asked if I needed help. Minus 2 stars. I used to like this place for the most part. I bring my dogs to Vetco and aside from one vet long ago saying he didn't like Shar Pei's, I have had good service. But my pond was raided by racoons. I didn't think I would be so sad, but I really did miss my fish. After I had made my pond safer against predators, I came here to restock. Let's be clear - this is NOT a good place to be a fish. If you have ever had to deal with fish diseases or parasites, you know what I mean. They have a "sick tank", but the fish they put up for sale, i.e., healthy, are far from it. Introduce these fish to your pond or tank and you are asking for trouble. I came here a couple of days ago, and the fish were sickly. I left and went to PetSmart and ended up buying the fish and plants there. I came back here because Petco had the dog nail clippers I liked, which were not available at Petsmart. I went back to look at the fish again, and took these photos with my cell phone. Is someone looking out for the fish? Or for the consumer that might not know that a fish with parasites can infect your whole pond? These fish have not been moved to the "sick tank" since my last visit, and every other tank has dead or sick fish. This is shameful, and I hope someone addresses this. It's just cruel. I want to give them more than one star, but I can't in all good conscience until they treat all the life there with more respect. I like this Petco, it's nearby and like many other locations they are open until 9P which is definitely convenient. I purchase only organic, holistic food for our kitten and her kibble and litter are only found at Pet Food Express and Tailwaggers but her Blue Wilderness wet food and treats are always readily available at Petco. Charlotte likes their Leaps and Bounds line for toys, and let's be honest I do too! Some of the items are really cute. I have to avoid the flat toys as she is able to slide them under our kitchen stove. Service always seems fine, but it's been months and we are still not in their system for Petco Pal Rewards. They desperately on a large corporate level need to revise their archaic ways of adding new members. All in all, it's always been a pleasant positive experience at this location. The WORST dog training and dog classes ever. The turnover is ridiculous so in the span of 8 weeks we worked with 3 different trainers. We finally finished, after a lot of hurdles (like how our class had 2 barking chihauchuas and the only reason they were there was to have them in the vicinity of other dogs and overcome the barking. So we paid full tuition to be used as props for another dog's lesson. And we had to endure an hour of yapping in our faces as we try to give our dog a proper lesson). So we finally finish and we were looking forward to geting his certificate which was supposed to come by mail. And.......it never came. I caution against using their Vetco Total Care clinic. The vets themselves are fine, but the organization around them is terrible. I came to drop off a sample during lunch and while the Petco is open and fully staffed, the Vetco is locked up from noon-1pm. No one will accept the samples and I and multiple other people were just told to wait the 45 minutes out. They didn't even have something as simple as a box to drop things off. read more

I never write reviews however I took my dog to be groomed and when I received the bill there was a $5.99 "materials fee". I inquired what this was for and no one could explain it. The store team was great (5 stars) and removed the charge and said I needed to call corporate (1 star). I did call corporate office and they put me on hold for several minutes to find out what the charge was for (I thought really you do not know what the charge is for). The person finally said it was for disposal gloves and materials. I said, "what other materials". She could not answer. I said, "well if I bring my own gloves would the charge be removed". There was no answer. The point is if you want to charge $79 for a wash and cut then charge that amount. Don't pretend the wash and cut is $73. I'm not really sure how to score this review the staff was really nice (again 5 stars) and understanding. Although the store removed the added fee the first time they said they were unable to do it for my next appointment so I cancelled the appointment. I have a difficult time with "fake cost"; "padded bills" ($73 when it really is $79). Be honest up front with the charges for the service requested. If you can't perform the service without the additional $5.99 then the true cost is $79 for a wash and cut. It is like asking for a dog wash but shampoo is not included. I had a appointment for my cat at Vetco total care. They called me to change to other time because they found out that they made a duplicate schedule. I spent an hour to get here with my pet. I spent 10mins to find a parking(parking is crazy here). While the receptionist was helping others , I was a few minutes late for the appointment.they just canceled my appointment and No service was provided. read more

I've come into this store twice and both times a salesperson named Joe was outgoing, friendly, and helpful about finding things for our cat. he made water fountain recommendations as well as some about food (our gal has digestive issues). I had the worst experience here ever. I think the employees here are trained to discourage people from buying pets. I went in to buy a few goldfish and I was asked so many questions about having a fish tank etc I thought I was applying for a federal loan. At the end the employee said I could not buy a few goldfish if I didn't have a 20 gallon fish tank??? Their tank was so crowded the goldfish could barely swim. Save your shelftime and energy and just go to PetSmart in Alhambra. I happily got a dozen of goldfish with way better customer service. Called this location, 3rd closest from our home because one of our little dogs has become matted and it's painful for her. We've been loyal Petco customers for years, and our closest local is booked. The man who initially answered left us on hold for 14 minutes, checking for openings. A woman picked up our call, explaining some favor and discount for another persons situation. I interrupted her to say she'd picked up the wrong line...she cracked up laughing like it was so funny. Now on the phone for 15 minutes, it was not funny. After no good outcome I asked to speak to a manager and was eventually thrown back into the VM cue, eventually to be hung up on. I called back. Spoke to Amanda, offered my view that what they might need to do is to be staffed so that callers are not on hold for nothing for 15 plus minutes, and that they should, if they're so busy, call someone in, hire up, etc. Amanda shared that she's new at this location, they're training, there's only one phone, the laughter was just the young woman's nerves...every excuse...ZERO SERVICE RECOVERY read more

This review is not for Petco but the veterinary office attached to it. Do not take your pet here, the customer service is absolutely awful and on multiple occasions they have failed to fill my dogs insulin subscription. This is a time sensitive medication that has to be given twice a day or could have devastating results, at times they would ignore the request for over a week at a time- until I was so low that I actually had to visit the emergency vet to get the medication necessary. They also use a phone answering service so you cannot get a hold of anyone on site in a timely manner. When I expressed my concerns they were incredibly dismissive and made excuses why they "just received" the request. If you have a pet with any chronic condition, do NOT take them here. read more

Pretty bad experience which I've never had at this location before. The associates are usually very kind and helpful. But on 5/3/23 I wanted to do the easiest thing, which was exchange a harness for a smaller size. I asked a one of the associates and he didn't even look at me and told me to get in line and she'll help you. And both associates continued on with their convo that didn't even pertain to work. When the associate Ginger (says on the receipt) just did a return when I just asked her for an exchange. She got snooty with me cuss I told her that I wanted an exchange. When I left, she told me Have a nice day in a condescending manner. I'll continue to go to this same petco, but Never again on a Wednesday at 230p or if I see that guy or ginger. PARKING LOT IS SUPER CROWDED: save yourself the headache and park on the street or elsewhere. Other than that, upon entering the store, you'll notice that each Petco employee is warm, welcoming, and helpful. Other Yelp reviews say there are better pet stores but this one's closest to me, so I tend to be here quite regularly, now that I'm a dog momma. This review is not for Petco but for the vet Thrive located in Pasadena on Arroyo. In the past I've taken my dog here and been on time and they'd have me wait 30to 45 minutes to be seen. Also , when they brought my Dog in for a quick appointment once in I'd wait in the exam room for more time. Fast forward to today they asked me to come in 15 minutes after my appointment time due to there over scheduling. I ran 10 minutes late and they told me my dog Conor be seen. I'm very unsatisfied with my past and present experiences will definitely be looking for another vet. read more

I was in early this morning to pick up a leash and a collar for my dog before I drop him off at the trainer. My dog was unleashed and Hayden was super helpful and friendly to my dog. She gave me a small leash from their grooming service so I can put it on my dog before I found one for him, and she also gave great recommendations for dog food and everything. My family and I recently invested in a new pet at Petco, a fish aquarium and are very new to the fish keeping hobby. We decided to visit out local Petco in Arroyo, Pasadena. We bought a 10 gallon tank and some guppies and two snails. The first experience was an informed and pleasant one. We went back a few weeks later once the tank was set up and thriving. We enquired about getting a Common Placo and was told that it would be fine to have them in the tank with our other guppies and snails. (We were never informed about the size they can grow to and that they require a minimum 75 gallon tank). Our Placo has been acting erratically lately and so we have decided to do some research, to find out that we were abusing our poor pet (lovingly named Draco the Placo) that he needs a larger space in order to thrive and be happy. That we were like keeping a puppy in a box it's whole life. We were shocked and angry and so so sad. Went to the store and spoke to a manager and the best thing he could offer was a 20% discount on a $75 dollar tank. I mean the investment was initially $180 for a complete setup for 10gallons. It would cost us over $500 for a 75 gallon tank. I reached out through the chat in hopes of finding a better solution or help with this situation and the call center agent was helpful in taking my information but couldn't offer anything besides I will escalate the situation. I am still waiting on any response from that action. Just sad that we were wrongly informed and poorly educated by your employee and the burden falls on us to fix it and bare these expensive costs. We want to keep out Placo and will do what we can to get a better set up for him. We should have done research prior to this ourselves and that is a lesson learned the hard way. read more

There was no line here on a Saturday for the Vetco services. The Vetco staff was very friendly and fun to talk with. A foster cat was taken there to get a combo test done and be microchipped. Overall, the process was very quick and easy. They seemed knowledgeable, and their prices were comparable to other places or even less expensive. I like how the prices for each service are posted near their front desk. As far as the Petco store itself, it was mostly neat and clean except for one fresh potty accident. The cashiers paid attention and opened up a second register when even a small line of 2 people were there. This experience was way better than what I've experienced at the Glendale location where I had to wait 30 minutes in line. read more

I own a 10 gallon fish tank and unfortunately have had to repurchase aquarium heaters by (AQUEON) every two or 3 months. The return policy is a standard 30 days but I keep buying faulty products that don't work after purchasing them after a few months. I spoke with the store manager named COLBY, who was not very helpful. He offered to give me a 20% discount on a new heater which I was not satisfied with so I asked to speak to his higher up which he refused to oblige. It's very sad that I'm a returning customer who has literally spent hundreds of dollars on overpriced and horrible products to not be compensated with a free heater. It sucks that I have an AQUEON tank so I will need to continue purchasing specific products from that brand, but I refuse to come into PETCO to obtain them ever again. I'll purchase the necessary product on Amazon and support local pet store businesses instead. Your corporation SUCKS! read more

Came here with a friend one evening to buy her dog a large bully stick. My first impression of this place: Small Petco store, with a small parking lot out front. We were able to find what we were looking for and waited in some what of a long line since there was only 1 cashier open (we came in towards closing time). Overall, this shopping experience was okay, nothing really special about it. Wouldn't really come out of my way to shop at this particular location. Have gone to other Petco stores before that seem to be bigger and with less of a wait time in line. read more

Compared to other locations, I like this Petco a lot! Not only do they have a gourmet treat counter, there is tons of food, toys, and accessories for our critters. I am a proud kitty mommy and I love coming here to get my baby's Fancy Feast cans because they have an amazing selection of flavors. I also proceeded to feed my Star Wars obsession by buying all the cat toys for my cat. Actually, kitty's daddy ended up buying her an amazing cat condo from Unleashed (Petco's sister company) and they sell the same item there. A pet could go bananas in here, which some of them do by the accidents you see in the aisle, but it happens sometimes. This location also has a groomer attached to it so you can shop while your baby gets a haircut or shampoo. read more

I came in tonight to buy flea medication for my pup, Jake. I visit this location a few times a year to purchase Advantix. Tis' the season for fleas! As of now, the store is gearing up for Halloween and the cutest costumes on display are placed near the register. I'm an impulse buyer. Well played, Petco. Well, played. I've been frequenting this Petco on Arroyo for years. It's the closest most reliable pet store near home. Majority of the pet shops near the area are closed before 7. How lucky am I to be able to come in before 9 pm after work? They have treats for your fur babies, pet friendly well kept aisles, and a helpful staff. Finding everything I may need in one place is a blessing. Coincidentally, Petco also offers grooming services and vaccines at their facility, an added bonus! read more

This is the best Petco ever!!!! I arrived as a new dad to two kittens. Left a pro Cat Daddy. I was helped by Colby/Randy [sorry I cant remember] and Pablo. These guys were enthusiastic to help me and get me started on my journey of cat parenthood. I was given a coupon book right when i walked and ended up saving 20 bucks because of it. Signed up for the pals rewards and have already been stacking the rewards. Making this place my first pet shop ever was a great choice. Pablo helped me find the items in the cat booklet and Colby was great at the front helping me feel welcome and close me out.
