This Petco location is in Hawaii Kai next to Walgreens. What a coincidence that the Petco in town is also located next to a Walgreens. This Petco is huge and deep. All the aquatics items are way in the back. I love to see the kittens that they have for adoption in the front. They also sell things for cats, dogs and other animals. I believe that most Petcos have a grooming salon. This location also has a veterinary hospital. read more

I like this Petco, It's clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Usually everything is stocked, but for some reason puppy food has been unusually stocked since having puppies to feed. Not sure if that is a new thing, or just something that we've noticed now that we have a puppy to care for. I've finally figured out how to get the bigger dogs nails on the calendar for regular nail clipping, just schedule it ahead of time. The app doesn't allow you to do just nail trim, so it's best to do the scheduling when you are able to get the pup in to get trimmed, the groomer can do it on the computer for you. We also have the Vital care for the pups, if you are looking for basic pet insurance, ask for more details. It's a pretty good deal and you get discounts and $5 pet rewards every month. read more

Our neighborhood pet store is expanding services to include a full service vet hospital! Hopefully that will include ER services since the other pet hospital in the neighborhood is often busy. We come here for pet treats and toys, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. They have a wide selection of food brands for cats and dogs, as well accessories. I can never resist getting the bulk doggie treats for my doggo - and they often have fun themed treats for the holidays. read more

I haven't been able to get my dog properly groomed since we adopted her because of the 2 yr vacation but I think we finally found our place. I thought that they could maybe get 3 stars, so I gave it some thought and......... Then I came to my senses, (They're lucky getting two stars). Last month I took my addition, (Maka) a sweet kitten I got at Hawaiian Humane Society. Needless to say that she needed her claws clipped. I usually do this on my own, but not with Maka, yet. I went to this pets tore, asked if there was someone that could help me, all I needed was someone to help me. Without any hesitation someone, (Employee) jumped right in. Very nice young lady was able to get the job by herself, no charge. Not today, if had an appointment it would have been $30.00, I didn't have an appointment the charge would hav been $50.0!! I will NEVER go to any of their stores again, unless I go talk to the manager. Oh my, that's a good idea. Will let you know what happens. read more

This Petco location is really big, and most of the sections are reserved for dog supplies with some for cats. I'm more of a fish person and those options were limited. I'm also a big window shopper and love looking at the available pets. They don't sell any dogs, but they have fish, guinea pigs, turtles, and a couple kittens. Maybe they're trying to avoid becoming known as a puppy mill, but it'd be great if there would be some puppies to play with lol. They had what I needed, so I was happy. Went here twice once to check out what they had and another time to check out what they had. lol There's lot parking located in the same shopping center and right next to Locomoco and the Leonard's Malasada Truck. They have basic necessities but majority for the common animals. They didn't have stuff that I needed for my tortoise, but the staff are friendly and nice. It was an all time 1st for me to come to this Petco store in Hawaii Kai. I normally go to the Petco store in the Makiki area on Beretania Street (where the old Safeway use to be). I mainly came here today, to purchase a special rubber ball............as yesterday I had lost my friend - Maho's ball. It all started when I took my furry son to the park (we go everyday). Makana is just cray cray crazeeeeeee for a ball! Especially if it's someone else's ball, because he has greedy tendencies to hoard stuff............ I was playing with one of the kids at the park - MJ, and we play this game called - "Dog in the middle".........I guess you can tell how this works right? Well upon throwing the ball around with Makana in the middle, MJ had thrown the ball a little high, and since I'm vertically challenged (I stand only at 5' 7") the ball sailed over my head, bounced over a chain link fence, down a hill, rolled onto the road, till it rolled into a storm drain! Maaaaaaaaan! Bummers! :( Now losing a ball is no big deal for me, but the problem with this was...........it wasn't mine, or Makana's ball............Ooooops! Our bad! So that's where Petco came in handy today...........I walked into the store, & looked around for the exact ball that Makana was playing with. Aaaaaah, Petco.........you're a lifesaver! Plopped down $24.00 for two balls...........one to replace my friend Maho's ball, plus another ball for Makana..........why not right? I gotta say, this store is deceivingly larger than I thought it would be. From the outside, it looks small, but when you walk into the store...........I guess the store space is "long", therefore they stock quite a bit of pet items here! Whether you have a doggie, cat, bird, fish, rat, or whatever floats your boat............Petco probably carries something for your little friend! One of the best Petco locations on-island. Their snack bar actually has variety! The location is clean and has more stuff than other locations (food brands, accessories, etc.) Friendly and helpful staff. SO MANY DOGS COME HERE TOO! The biggest thing was their adoption events held in the front of the store! Such a success to see dogs go to loving homes and the excitement of families shopping at Petco. My dog buddy is 12 and a chihuahua and has been on table food for most of his life because my dad always snuck him treats. This last year, buddy has had tummy issues and I've tried everything I could, but it didn't improve. After vet visits and food the vet suggested that my dog didn't eat, I decided to go to Petco. John was the guy who helped me. He knew SO much, I learned so much and he suggested a few different possibilities for food for Buddy and guess what? My dog eats dry and wet DOG food now. I'm ecstatic. Highly recommend. He knew his stuff, he was friendly and he didn't just try to sell me the higher price dog food, he showed me food that he thought would not only serve my dogs nutritional needs, but that my dog would enjoy. Although this is a corporate conglomerate, I do like Petco. The closest pet store for us Hawaii Kai residents was the Hawaii Kai Town center and the Hawaii Kai Shopping center (both the Costco and the Longs shopping centers have smaller pet stores). Otherwise, prepare to trek to Petland in Kahala. Pecto offers services like grooming, which is nice, and also has a larger space, which means larger stock. I think the selection here is really good, especially for fish and dogs. Employees here are friendly and I think the prices are fair. read more

I had the absolute best service experience at this store. Maika helped us at checkout and noticed we were eligible for a free bag of dog food I. The system. Despite my technical ineptitude to login to my account and claim my reward, Maika made a call to some appropriate place and gained the authorization code for the discount. Saved us $57 that I was absolutely prepared to pay. It was just so thoughtful that he took the time to go the extra mile and find a way to give us a discount that I truthfully was unaware of. This review is more for the pet grooming department. My annoyance started when I booked my appointment online. I chose my appointment for 11am. After I submitted my information I received a text with a new time of 8am. Online I chose the basic grooming packet $66 pulse $4.99 for supply fee. When I dropped my dog off I had three lengths to chose from (The three shortest options they have). Okay... around 3pm I called the groomer to check on my dog. I was concerned at this point because I hadn't heard from anyone. No answer. I sent my husband to check on the dog. When he picks her up they tried to charge us close to $100. At this point we were willing to pay but my dog looked horrible. She looked like a Dr. Seuss character. She said she would be all one length because of the packet we chose . A very friendly staff and a well stocked store keeps me coming back consistently. Living in Hawaii Kai, the location is convenient. Its located next to Walgreens in the Koko Marina Shopping Center. I order most of everything online which offers 10% discount for in store pickup. Which helps for big ticket items. They do offer curbside pickup, haven't done it yet. Not sure if there is a designated coned off section of the parking lot. I don't think it's even needed at this time. Parking is wide open. read more

This review is for the grooming department more specifically Shelby C. I have been told by more than one Petco that my dog Hershey can't return to the grooming department because of how he reacts when you touch his paws. He may be the sweetest dog on earth but God help you if you touch his paws. I warned Shelby about his tendencies and she confidently said she will do what she can for him. His nails were so long and I couldn't do them myself. To my absolute amazement she took her time and got him use to the tools and her touching his paws and then quickly with very little fuss from him trimmed all his Nails! This woman is a godsend!! Their app quit working to scan bar codes so price matching is near impossible. Having adopted a cat from here and we also have two dogs it's important to save money on pet food and supplies. The app isn't working via search or camera to price match and the staff was quite unwilling to help. We stood there for 16.5 minutes trying to search up the items we wanted to purchase while they ignored us. One associate finally told us if we can't find the item by the sku then the item isn't available online. She told us this after we searched for a separate item via sku which didn't return results, but we found the item finally a different search method. I think the staff was extremely rude. When working with pet people, it's important to be friendly. We'll just go somewhere else from now on. Petco, you're no good for us. We'll spend our money somewhere else. read more

Have been coming here for a month now to get food for our dog, but this may have been the last day. In general I have had good experiences, but today was an absolute deal breaker. I asked one of the sales associates (Daryl) about a ramp for dogs. He immediately looked at my dog and said "I would recommend establishing some boundaries for your dog. Do you have a yard? He should be an outdoor dog." First of all, I am an experienced dog owner, and have successfully trained and raised multiple animals in my lifetime. I'm not a complete expert, but I'm not exactly a novice. If I choose to let my dog in the house and on furniture, that is my business. Second of all, I DON'T GO TO PETCO TO BE TOLD HOW TO RAISE MY PETS. That is what training classes are for. Petco, if your sales associates cannot mind their own business, I will be taking my business elsewhere. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from a sales associate, and I will not be returning unless I can be assured that it will NEVER happen again. PERIOD. read more

We have been coming to this Petco and grooming since our dogs were puppies. They are now 5 years old and every single time we have gotten them groomed there have been problems. The only reason I kept coming back was because it was convenient and close to my house. One time one of their groomers even said "your dog has too much fur don't request me next time" (btw they are two Pomeranians) . Another time they said one of our dogs was "too upset" to be groomed. Even though he didn't bite. Every time I was made to feel like my dogs were a burden! My last straw was today. I took off work so I could take them to this appointment and they wouldn't take one of them because he was panting - it's hot outside... They are so lazy and always tried to overcharge! read more

If you're in the market for pet food, Petco is thee place to go to! There are just aisles upon aisles of dog food, I mean a lot! My Golden Retrievers have special needs and one of the options is to go to a vet such as VCA. But, the food can run you broke! Hehe, can't put a price tag on your pets, but you can try to find a cheaper solution without compromising quality. With so many different brands and different ingredients, you can most likely find something that will suit Fido's needs! I ended up getting some food made with rabbit and grain free. They also have a nice selection of accessories for your pet from collars and leashes to toys and bedding! If you like to get them treats, thats another thing that they have in large quantities. Check them out, an interesting place to browse through and don't forget to bring Fido along... Your pet may just not want to leave!! :) read more

I LOVE pets. Dogs, fish, rabbits, birds, turtles........you name it. But sorry, I am NOT a cat person! Came here with a friend today to pick-up some guppies to put into a pond for the newly purchased water lily plants. When stepping into this store, I didn't think it was large but after walking in I realized this place is HUGE. In the front near the cashier you have a buffet of doggie treats sold by the weight, then we passed the grooming section where a couple of dogs were getting a cut and then we stopped at the fish section. There were many tanks of fish and saw some really cool salt water sea life. Very bright and loaded with many colors! Immediately we found the guppies and to my surprise, they ONLY had male guppies!!! We needed to have both male and female guppies so that they can reproduce and help fertilize the water naturally so I asked a female clerk if they had any more female guppies in the back. Immediately I knew she was not knowledgeable by advising us some species of tropical fish can change sexes to reproduce so our concerns didn't matter. This is TRUE for some species but guppies are NOT one of them so I kindly asked for another clerk. This time there was a younger male who assisted us and he conceded no female guppies were in stock and perhaps a new shipment would be coming in either 1-2 weeks. I used to spend many, many hours at Petland in Ala Moana as a kid so I consider myself as a tropical fish nerd. I know my fish!!! Although guppies may be a common household fish, I knew that moons, platys or swordfish would do just as well so after confirming with the clerk platys are prolific we picked up 6 colorful platys and 3 algae eaters. The check-out line was very quick and the cashier was friendly. Overall, a great shopping experience and a solid 4-star rating. However, because the female clerk tried to pass on incorrect information to sell us only males guppies that would end up not reproducing and dying, I have to minus one star, therefore a final 3-star review from me. If you're not sure, the associate should have checked with her colleague before reporting back to us. Unfortunately she had someone who knew about fish so she was corrected and lost faith from me. read more

I always love my Hawaii Kai visits. This location is in the most convenient location next to Walgreen's and on the same shopping center as the Koko Marina Theater. There are ample parking for everyone depending on the time you go. Came by this location after hiking with my 9 month old pup. At first, we were just looking around for a back pack for him. Unfortunately they're out and are not going to get a new shipment until February 2015. After, we decided to look into their grooming area. Thankfully this section was not hard to find. The store is a bit cramped and are a bit smaller in size compare to their Beretania location. I decided to inquire about the nail trimming and buffing service. The staff was so friendly and the area is very clean. I love how I can see the grooming stations visible from the outside. The nail trim is $15 and the buffing is extra for $5. This was all worth it. I did my very best to do my own trimming however, I caused a bit of pain to my pup when I cut in too deep. Instead, having the professionals do it was a lot easier on your pups toes. Nail trimming and buffing is good for walk ins just as long as they're not too busy with grooming appointments. I would highly recommend their nail trims and buffing here. My pups nails are no sharp and scratches. In fact, his nails are so smooth!!! read more

I was charged $35.99 for a $9.99 leash and $13.99 for a magazine with a cover price of $10.99!!! Waste of time and hassle having to go back to get a refund. They need to check their POS systems! After my anxiety ridden trip to Petco Beretania, I ventured to Petco Hawaii Kai on Monday thinking they may be better stocked. Boy, was I disappointed. It was just as bad as Beretania with lack of wet dog food in trays. I bought what minimal I could find and also broke down and bought Rachael Ray's Nutrish to see if my dog would eat that (see my other review about her suddenly not eating chicken). My dog is being very finicky so trying to see WHAT she will eat. Well, yesterday, I decided to try the Nutrish and opened it. I cannot smell and have never bought this before so not sure what it was supposed to look like but, luckily, my sister was there and suddenly screamed about some awful smell permeating the house. She ran to the kitchen and looked at the container of food and said it smelled so bad and that the contents did not resemble what was supposed to be in there. She said she buys this food every once in a while and it is supposed to be like a chunky stew and this one was soupy and brown. IT WAS TOTALLY RANCID! How can Petco sell products that are rancid. Is there no quality or inventory check? I am LIVID! What if my sister had not been there? I think my dog would have stopped eating and died of anorexia thinking I was poisoning her. OMG. I always thought Petco was better than other places but the last 2 visits had been underwhelming, disappointing and irritating. This was the last straw. Never going back! read more

Waaaay over-priced and they don't do any better of a job than several other groomers that I've taken my dog to. They cost more than 40% more for the same grooming that other groomers here provide. The final straw was that the last time I went there, they told me to pick up my dog at 1 o'clock. I called at that designated hour and all I got was a voice recording. I left a message. I called every hour thereafter and kept leaving messages but no one ever picked up or called me back. Finally at 5:00 PM I drove over there and they told me that they had been calling a number that was no longer mine-- even though my phone number was listed as an alternative number to call. As a result, my poor dog whose grooming had been long finished by 1 PM had been sitting in a cage waiting for me unnecessarily for four hours while they kept calling the wrong number! All they had to do was try the other alternative number on their records but they were either too lazy or too incompetent or could care less. I will never go back to that place and do not recommend it. read more
