Well there's not really much to elaborate on when it comes to Petco. I will say that I prefer them much better over PetSmart because I have noticed a drastic price difference when buying the same items at both places. Staff is always friendly but I am giving them 4 stars because they don't know anything about pets. It's like, you work at a pet supply store, one of your main jobs is to be knowledgeable about pets! About 6 months ago, I had just recently acquired a baby Central American boa constrictor and a corn snake and was there buying some supplies for them. My boa constrictor was not eating and I wanted some advice on what I could try to get her to eat. The guy had no clue where to start! Needless to say I walked away empty handed and did some research online. My only other complaint is that they do not have as wide of a selection as PetSmart, although it gets the job done. Despite the employees lack of animal knowledge, the store is always spotless and they are pretty friendly. This location is close to where I work on Fridays so I always come here during my lunch break and purchase frozen mice for my snakes and crickets for my Goliath bird-eating tarantula. They always give me more crickets than what I asked for so I greatly appreciate that sentiment. I know, weird collection of pets but I love them. They are obviously pet friendly so you can take your companion on an adventure, and they also offer grooming services there, although I have not taken my dog there so I don't know how great their grooming service is. Animals are also always available for adoption and many were abandoned so you can take pride in knowing you gave an animal a wonderful home. Overall very convenient being located to so many other stores (i.e. JoAnnes fabrics, Target, Eatzi's). Just don't expect any advice on your pet and do your own research before you come in. read more

Nice pet store. They have a pair of chinchillas in here. Very cute! They also have a really cute parrot and about 7-8 various birds in the center section. I saw a lot of beautiful tropical fish. I always loved the beta fish and they also have those in several colors. It's a good store and of course has a variety of leashes and collars. You can find everything you need here! read more

I would say buyer beware on Vitalcare. The store person said you can cancel month to month and that is not the case. It is mandatory one year commitment which I was not aware of. When you call their customer service line which has a dedicated line, it disconnects from you from later hours. I was able to get thru and cancel the membership. Vitalcare is not a month to month membership where you can cancel anytime like most membership setups contrary to what a Petco employee says that you can cancel anytime with little effort. read more

When you have a farm, animal rescue, and pet sanctuary all rolled into one, you get to do a little comparison shopping when it comes to pet supply stores! Seriously, my vet thanks me all the time for putting his kids through college! Anyway, before I digress, back to my review.... Petco is another of the big box pet stores. I have always found them to be a little higher than other box stores and often not quite as nice. This one fits right in line with that evaluation. There seemed to be a lot of construction going on inside the store, so maybe they are fixing it up a little bit...time will tell. Price wise, I find myself paying a little more for the convenience of shopping here, bit when I am on a lunch break it works for me. read more

DO NOT bring your anxious puppy to Grapevine grooming. I'd taken my Benny to the Highland Village location because I trust their staff in handling my dog, but seeing as they were booked out all month I scheduled an appointment two weeks prior for this location. The stylists were nice enough but the bathing, grooming, blow drying, tables, and kennels are cramped into a tiny 4x4 room. Unfortunately, I'd been caring for his beautiful coat for many weeks and anxious to get my boy his beautiful groom. Thankfully, I was not charged for the haircut my sheepadoodle received. He was returned to me soaking wet and unbrushed now I will have to make work adjustments to find him a quick enough grooming at another Petco where there is actually space for these employees to do their job thoroughly and efficiently. This is a stressful environment for these pets and the store needs to make improvements in this department. I'm extremely disappointed in myself for putting him in this position and can only hope he will be trusting and comfortable with other grooming salons in the future. read more

I was really disappointed in the grooming appointment today. My dog evidently spilled his water bowl after his groom, and the girls didn't do anything to try and dry him. He was covered in other dogs clippings when we left.. who knows what kind of bugs and stuff may had been in there. I'd just assume I wouldn't be picking up a soaking wet dog. Not to mention they had temporarily added extra cages all over the place. No wonder he knocked his bowl over and had other dogs hair all over him.. he was directly under the grooming table. Would NOT recommend and won't return for grooming. read more

Stopped here to get a few items to catch some feral cats in my neighborhood. Bought $40 worth. Nice place Couldn't fine any help but finally did. They were busy stocking shelves and very nice. Upon check out was told they now charge $.10 per plastic bag. I declined and got along fine without a bag. But it pissed me off enough that I have to pay for a shopping bag now? Don't think so. Great experience. Loved bringing in our 2 pups recently. Nice, friendly staff--they seem like they WANT to be there, and although I had to ask for a manager(issue with my online order), that wasn't really their fault... I recently took my schnauzer here to be groomed, I have taken him to the Petco in Colleyville and I love their grooming as well as Kountry Klippers, who doesn't do the best schnauzer cut, but I needed a groom last minute and they had a spot open at the grapevine location. Schnauzer cuts can be a hit or miss in this area so I crossed my fingers they would give him a cute cut and J'lin M gave my little boy a wonderful schnauzer cut and he smelled so great and they were very kind staff who dealt with the animals the way animal lovers do, I highly recommend this salon for grooming your dog. read more

Please hire better staff & train them better. It's RIDICULOUS to NOT be able to exchange the SAME EXACT ITEM, exact same price ($29.99) still have tags attached & no damaged. I just needed a different size without a receipt. I received a puppy jacket from my husband's aunt as a Christmas gift. It was a little too small so l asked if I could switch it out for a larger size.. one of the ladies there was giving me a hard time about it (will get her name if I ever come back again). Then I went to the back & asked a manager & she said "yes that's fine I don't see why not?? Ignore the lady in the front she's new" So I switched it out, as I was leaving, there was 2 other ladies coming to the girl in the front & whispering & just staring at us while we were leaving... & no I was not being a Karen, literally all I asked was to exchange? She said no & was giving me a hard time, I went to the back, ran into the manager & asked the same thing & she said yes. My parents are also business owners & it is so important to hire great staff. Petco has what you need, but that's it. It's like the Walgreens of the pet industry. PetSmart = CVS. This is a nice enough Petco - it was clean and had a good selection. I picked up a few toys for the shelter dogs to play with in the yard. $70. Holy moly!!! Expensive! I only bought 4 things - 2 were those ball things that look like a 20-sided die for D&D but hollow. They are expensive anywhere, but still. I was at another place the next day, and the prices were lower on the stuff I bought. Nice enough place - not a huge selection - but if you need something for your pet, you'll probably find it here. read more

We purchased our pet chameleon bam bam from this location he passed away today after giving him the greatest habitat to live in, took off work for the rest of the day to take him to get examined by a vet and the autopsy said the cause of death was mbd (Metabolic Bone Disease) , I highly don't recommend getting a reptile from petco , if you do please go get it checked by a vet ASAP. I have been here twice. Once to pick up a new foster pup and once to take another foster to adoption day. The entrance is a large open space that is perfect for adoption events. The two times I have been there were three different rescues there with dogs available for adoption. I adopted one of my foster dogs at an adoption event at the Colleyville location and was given a New Parent coupon booklet that comes with all pets adopted from a rescue on their premises. Much larger than their Bedford location but not as nice or clean as their Colleyville location. It is what it is. I am not a fan of chain pet stores. I prefer to shop family owned like Bark Avenue which is very close. read more

I took my dog in to get a haircut, nothing crazy. We asked if he could be cut a little longer than they normally do (they shave him all the way down, it's ugly and we don't like it on him). Well I get a call halfway through his grooming session that he has been cut and is at the animal emergency center. Petco downplayed how bad the cut was, then the vet from the hospital called. My dog had to get six stitches because of how badly they cut him. They also shaved him all the way down, which is exactly what I asked them not to do. Had they cut him longer like I specifically asked them to, I doubt they would've cut an inch long, deep cut. they tried to tell me they wouldnt be able to cut him longer but the Petco where I live, Austin, gave him the exact cut I wanted last time so that is just false that they couldn't do it longer. I do not recommend this Petco at all. Very dissatisfied & will not be returning. read more

I am saddened to say that my faith in Petco has been drastically reduced. So much so, that I have officially switched to Petsmart. I ordered some fish a couple weeks back and was told that they would call me if they were able to order them. I received a call maybe 30 minutes after I left the store to confirm that the distributor did have them and they would arrive NEXT Thursday. Well, the next Thursday rolls around and I call them to ask if my fish arrived. I was then told that they would be here NEXT Thursday again! Evidently it takes two weeks for fish to come in despite what i was originally told. Yesterday, Thursday, I call them to ask if I could bring in a couple fish to give to them because I was unaware that they were supposed to grow to a large size when I got them. A Clown Loach and Common Pleco. The Clown Loach was also killing my Albino Tiger Barbs. I was NOT looking for a refund, just a more suitable home for them. I told them this. They said they would take them. I brought them in and the manager, Todd, had me fill out a surrender form for them, then accused me of just changing my mind about them. This was not the case. I am new to the aquarium hobby and I have come to really like Tiger Barbs. I got a 20 gallon tank to begin a Tiger Barb exclusive aquarium set up. A little trial and error is to be expected on my part and these fish were not suitable for my tank. When I explained the situation again in person, Todd seemed to be determined to prove me wrong. When I told him that I was pretty positive the Loach was attacking my Albino's he actually scoffed at me! I found that very rude and insulting. Once I got through that ordeal, I asked about the fish I ordered. He told me they just got the shipment and I followed him back to the fish area to check the shipment to see if they had them. They were never ordered! He started telling me if the distributor doesn't have them, there's nothing they can do. Okay? When I ordered them, I was told the distributor did have them and they would arrive today! Nope! They weren't going to call me or anything to let me know. He said he would reorder them, but I was so insulted by his attitude that I went over to Petsmart to see what they had. They had an abundance of the exact fish I wanted, were very kind, and I walked out a very happy customer. I will not be returning to Petco and even cut up my Pals card. read more

Our dog had a random seizure that ended up being because of the food he was eating. Our vet recommended a specific brand of dog food for him, and lo and behold this little old Petco is the only store for miles that keeps it in stock. The store is definitely shabby, but the people are always so friendly and the very specific foods we need for our three pets are always in stock. It's in an extra convenient shopping center, featuring a Target, a Jo Anns, and a World Market - not to mention the amazing Peace Burger. I'm planning on trying out their dog training classes this summer and will definitely update on how those go. read more

The Lady in charge ignores all instructions, complains about her job every time I talk to her, and will blow your phone up when it's time to pickup. I put up with it because the location was convenient but after the last grooming where she shaved my terrier like a poodle???...No more. My dog is so ashamed of his cut he hides in the house and howls when he passes mirrors. Seriously though, he looks terrible and I can't see how any groomer would think that's acceptable. I've been to this Petco maybe only half a dozen times but I like it much better than the one that's closer to my house. While this is a smaller store than some locations and is in an older building (with no auto-opening doors), it seems more organized and cleaner than other Petcos. They had what I went in to buy every time I've been there and the staff were extremely friendly. While this isn't the closest Petco to my house, I am now making more of an effort to organize my errands so I can shop here. Plus - There's a Jason's Deli right next door! read more

As an owner of 3 dogs I will never visit Petco again. I had my dogs in for grooming and upon arrival of picking up dogs I witnessed my toy poodle being dropped/falling from the second story kennel. I was mortified. The groomers are absolutely excellent, the problem was, a man who claims to be the manager was in the grooming salon trying to take my dog out and this happened. I was blamed for this happening- I have reached out multiple times for the store manager to call me back as well as e-mailed the CEO of the company. NO RESPONSE. I picked up a bag of the Canyon Creek chicken tenders and the price was about $13.00 more than at Petsmart. They matched the price! I was impressed! We took our 2 dogs ( Teddy and Gracie ) to get their monthly grooming and they were fantastic. These 2 can be a handful and would rather not when it comes to getting their hair done. Saxon and Haley did an absolute fantastic job ( truly the best ) I have been going to Country Clippers in Colleyville for years and this was cheaper and because they are smaller they were only there a few hours. There are professional animal trainers and psychologists on staff here. They are completely and perfectly centered on the well being of the pets and live stock and the bond between pets and keepers. Used their grooming services for the first time and they were excellent! They took the time to calm my dog down, and the trim was very good. Hairy dogs are usually harder to get an even and smooth cut, but they did the job! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I regarded it as a bit high, pricewise. the basic price for my 24 lb dog was $57, which made me glad he wasn't bigger than that.
