I had a very disappointing experience with the veterinarian at Petco. My daughter brought her dog in for a rabies shot after he had just received his routine vaccinations at another clinic. Although her appointment there was at 11:00 AM, the actual vaccinations were administered at 12:45 PM -- which the Petco staff confirmed directly with the clinic. Despite this verification, the veterinarian refused to provide the rabies shot because she believed it had not been done "within an hour" of the earlier appointment time. Even after being given the correct vaccination time, she would not reconsider. Her demeanor came across as dismissive, unhelpful, and unprofessional. As a result, my daughter had to drive across town to another veterinarian, wait behind urgent cases, and go through additional stress just to get a routine rabies vaccine completed. Thankfully, our dog is fine -- but the situation was completely avoidable. Veterinary care should prioritize animals' well-being and treat clients with respect. This experience fell short on both. I hope management reviews how situations like this are handled so other families don't have to go through the same frustration. read more

This is my go to petco for everything. Their mobile clinic is very affordable, the staff is always super professional and the store is always well stocked. Returns are so easy once you make an account which I appreciate, especially when I'm trying to navigate diet changes with my pup and need to try a couple bags before I can settle on a brand. read more

I can't say enough good things about Petco's dog training program! I brought in my 4-month-old Doberman who was becoming really difficult to manage--lots of biting, jumping, and constant leash pulling. In just one session with Ira, I saw a noticeable difference. Ira was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and confident, which immediately put both me and my pup at ease. She gave me clear, practical techniques that started working right away. Re: Aquatics I knew nothing about fish and aquariums. My neighbors asked me to fish sit for five weeks, so I freaked out when their panda Cory catfish died after one week. I bought three new replacement panda Cory catfish, which comes with a thirty day guarantee. Petco refunded one panda Cory catfish that died with proof of body. Brooke, the manager from Australia, has twenty years of experience in aquatics. She spent an entire hour teaching me how to dump one gallon of water from the tank and replace it so that the nitrate and ammonia levels would lower. Petco will test your sample water for free! The next afternoon, I brought in a two quart sample of water for her to test. It tested on the higher safe side of nitrates and ammonia. Brooke said I was overfeeding the fish and told me to stop feeding the betta vacation feeder and to only feed one scoop of Betta food every other day, not daily. She also taught me to only dump out 20% of the tank's water, how to siphon water through a gravel vacuum into a bucket, wait for the gunk to settle at the bottom of the bucket, and then scoop a couple cups of water back into the tank to keep the microbiome. The fish don't look lethargic anymore from ammonia poisoning. She also taught me to buy a moss ball, which will lower the nitrate levels in the tank. Thank you, Brooke! read more

This is for all Petco grooming locations. Be aware they charge a $10 scissor fee per dog but this is not a charge they disclose on their website when you book an appointment. They only disclose it once you have brought your dog in for the appointment and then they let you know the added charge. Also if you refuse to go through with the grooming because of this highly unethical business practice they will charge a fee for late cancellation. I personally will never use their services or shop at their store ever again! read more

They employ one of the rudest, most unhinged people I've ever come in contact with. During a routine return I had a simple question about, which was solved quickly with manager assistance, the previously mentioned employee, "Stephanie", proceeded to talk about me right in front of me as I stood there, politely waiting for the transaction to be finalized. Not once, not twice, but over and over. In the presence of her own manager. I must have caused her great discomfort and strain for asking such a confusing question that would cause her to lash out in such a way! And this is the person who greets you when you walk in the store and checks you out when you make a purchase. Losing my business doesn't seem to phase them too much. It's too bad because I've been a loyal customer for years but I'm not going to be verbally abused by someone who has unchecked anger issues simply to return an item at a pet store. read more

We brought our 8 month old puppy for a full groom at this location. When we got home we noticed she had cuts in three places, near her eyes, underneath her tail and in one of her ears. We brought her in for a full groom, I understand being a puppy she was being difficult and finally ended up getting a bath, face, toes and sanitary trim, in 4:30 hrs time. Our puppy was completely stressed at the end of her appointment more so because of the injuries caused during the groom. I understand if there's an accidental cut but she had 3 cuts and two of them big ones. We even paid for the full service. I don't understand if the groomer did not know how to handle puppies why did they take her in the first place. I would rather have her come back home without a groom than with injuries. Moreover, because of the stress, she's had stomach troubles for a week and we had to take her to the vet. read more

This is my favorite Petco in the Austin area for Betta fish - this particular store has some of the most unique and beautiful Bettas I have ever seen (and I perused many of the petcos, petsmarts, and other aquatic stores around here before deciding which bettas to buy). I currently own two from this store. They've been with me for ~half a year so far and are so healthy and vibrant! Highly recommend checking them out if you're looking to start a Betta tank! This is a review of the GROOMING services. TLDR: Steer clear to avoid traumatizing your pup! Now let me preface this by saying I've been a longtime Petco Grooming customer. I recently moved and have taken my dog to the Northwest Austin Grooming Salon twice now. My dog loves going to the groomer and has always been fine, he's been to at least half a dozen different groomers over the years with no issues. However, he has come back extremely traumatized both times I've taken him to the Northwest Austin location. I believe there needs to be some oversight into what is happening there. I suspect they are not following the proper procedures and it is distressing to the dogs. They were also running late, but honestly, that wouldn't have bothered me if my pup had been properly cared for. I now wish I had checked the other reviews before booking this! I expected better oversight from a chain like Petco. The first time I took him there he was up all night distressed, crying, and throwing up. I thought maybe it was a fluke. But the next time he was up all night crying again and even began ripping out his own fur. Again, we've been to multiple Petco Grooming salons over the years and he has NEVER had a bad experience until now. I contacted Petco Corporate customer support. They along with the local manager(s) need to seriously look into what is happening at this store. read more

Some serious ethics issues from this place, Now this is the Vet, within the store, NOT the Petco, I had to reload my Revolution Prescription for my cat, usually buy the 6 month supply, saving some money, My Vacinnes and Exam were within the 1 year time window by about a month and a half, end of June he is due, Now Early May, It's not even close, we are looking at 45 days, willing to sell me the 3 doses, but not the 6 month. Wow, never have let my cat's vacinnes lapse, Is it likely that someone who would spend 130 dollars on 6 doses of flea and heart protection for his cat let his cat's vacinnes lapse? You see this is the level of thought coming out of this place, is about the level of a snail, A little Nickle and Dime BS. everyone puts up with, This was just an insult to my integrity as a pet owner, What am I going to do, skip out on my cat's vacinnes for 4 or 5 months? I hate pet store chains but this particular location of Petco is amazing only because of their staff: Mary, Jon, Bryan and the manager and PEGO at grooming. They all deserve a raise because they work very, very hard especially in these Covid times. My complain with Petco is about their Self Service Dog Wash- in 2019- they raised their prices 3 times without notice and without improving or adding ANYTHING to the service. It started at $10 to $12 to $15 - all in a matter of one year. This is huge red flag that basically means their corporate team is out of touch and incompetent. I suggest avoiding PETCO chains unless you're going to this location. read more

We just switched to Petco for grooming our Goldendoodle from using a fancy mobile groomer. Patricia did a really terrific job. We tried a local chain for grooming and had a really terrible cut--she looked like a major league outfield, with stripes going in different directions. Patricia trimmed our pup with a perfectly even cut, trimmed the head the way we requested it (i.e., not like a lollipop), and fluffed her up nicely. The nice thing about moving from the mobile groomer to Petco is that we can now afford to trim her as often as she should be trimmed. At ~$100 for the cut and options we selected, it feels like we got a good trim at a good price. Thank you! read more

The prices are a little better than PetSmart. If you purchase Blue brand dog food, it's cheaper here than there. The only criticism I have about Petco is the lack of variety for some items. I also don't like shopping, and being disturbed by sales people from dog food companies peddling their products. Even though my dog's vet suggested a certain brand of dog food for my pooch, one of the sales people (not a Petco worker, by the way) kept telling me why Purina is a better brand over Blue Buffalo. My dog likes BB and his vet approves. I also like to shop in peace. read more

I scheduled my dog for a bath and nail trim (no special cuts) for 3 on a Saturday. When I did so, I felt a reasonable expectation is that my dog would be seen close to 3. Instead, he sat in a kennel for some 2 hours before they finally got to him. My dog is older and has anxiety, which is in his file and has been communicated verbally to them regularly. When I called to complain about my older anxious dog waiting for a simple bath for that long, Courtney Witt, the manager that day, excused the wait saying that Saturdays are their busiest and they have to deal with walk-in customers. When I schedule my grooming ahead of time, I expect for him to be seen in a reasonable time frame instead of stressing him out to accommodate walk-in customers. Needless to say, I won't be taking my dog back when they won't honor the time of an appointment and fail to take into account the stress and age of my dog. read more

I took my one year old dog for the first grooming appointment at this location this morning at 9:00 a.m. I asked when I could pick him up and was told that the grooming salon closed at six so it could possibly be as late as six when he would be ready. Needless to say, I cancelled the appointment. In my opinion, keeping a puppy or a dog of any age that long is totally unacceptable and difficult for the dog. Why would any customer agree to this? If you have read a few of my reviews you probably know my dog is my Co-Pilot and I rarely ever leave the house without her. So, 2 years after purchasing a new 2010 4Runner my Co-Pilot's seat is looking haggard and with all the rescue dogs I transport the fur to carpet ratio was making my vehicle look like dogs live in it. Petco to the rescue! I stopped by this location on my lunch hour and was in and out in about 5 minutes! As soon as we walked in our greeter was down on his knees and in my dog's face (BTW as an experienced Dog Behaviorist I would highly advise against this friendly behavior to an unknown dog - it is how humans get bit and exactly why I left my foster dog in the car). Super Friendly Dude (SFD) led me straight to the isle with the kurgo CoPilot seat cover (29.99) right across from the furmenators so I also purchased a Bamboo FurBuster (14.99) that SFD guaranteed that I could return if it did not work. At the checkout SFD was doing double duty and as soon as he heard my dog knew "high five" she got so many treats from the dog cookie buffet she got super gassy on the way home (she eats grain free and mostly raw:) Note to grain free feeders beware the cookie bar! read more

DO NOT USE GROOMING SERVICES. I've been here a few times, so this wasn't just a one off situation. Every time I've taken my dog to get her nails trimmed I'm treated like a nuisance. The one-groomer-to-rule-them-all has the whole store afraid of her. The manager stood there RIGHT NEXT to her as she cocks an attitude, and no one says a damn thing. I've talked to other groomers away from her and apparently they know she's rude to customers but that's "just how she is." (She has a tattoo of a rose and dyed red hair). Situation 1: I get the package with a 15 minute brushout and she says"she'll be done in 5 minutes so don't go far)" I say, "It's supposed to be a 15 minute brush out though, right?" She scoffs, "Well then be back here in EXACTLY 15 minutes." Umm no, it's not just a brush out, it's several other things so why don't you take your time and I'll be in the store. I'll gladly wait for a good job to be done. So I come back and my dogs nails are untouched. I ask the groomer if she could take a little more off the edge and she gets an attitude, huffs and puffs, then comes over and clips my dogs nails. Great. I talk to the manager later and she apologizes and is real nice, blah blah. Situation 2: I come in again, ask for same package, again treated like an annoyance. She says she's the only groomer there and she can't do the 15 minute brush out because "several other people" are there. I ask, "well can I get a discount since you're not doing the whole package?"(sounds reasonable, right?) She huffs, "No, it's still the 20 dollars." So I ask, "Why would I pay full price when you're not doing the whole thing?" She doesn't say a thing, so I just leave. I don't mind waiting, but that's not what she wants, she wants me to leave, it's less work for her. So I went somewhere else. And the manager I had previously talked to? She stood there without a backbone and let her be rude to a customer. I work in customer service so I know what it's like, I'm also a manager and know when to stop a staff member from being a ****. You don't have to be a ****. Go ANYWHERE else. read more

She seemed nice at the beginning then towards the end I had a question about my bill since it increased $20 and simply asked her what the additional charges were for and she got very aggressive and responded very rudely. First I will start with It was easy to make an appt online. Once I confirmed the appt, the texts and emails I received were easy to follow. The office is very COVID-19 conscientious; I felt very safe. The staff are kind, caring, and competent! Dr. Lacy Pearson was wonderful. One of my pastimes is to volunteer with a local shelter to help promote dogs for adoption. They host monthly events here and post us up right in front of the store, along with the pups to get folks to adopt. Like many other Petco's, this large facility provides basically everything one would need for what I imagine is every house pet you can legally have! They have many services here including grooming, and a variety of training seminars. Restrooms are available! They'll have random sales on different products, so I recommend stopping by and who know you might snag a name brand bag of food for a bargain or possibly 20 pounds of cat litter for the price of a big mac. You can bring your animals inside with you! Parking is plentiful. read more

The store is great, the grooming is just awful. After 3 experiences that were each more terrible than the last, I've given up. The quality of work is fine, no issues with them there, but no concept of time mgmt or customer service. If I make an appointment and I'm told "2 hours" for a bath, I don't expect to have to call THEM 3 1/2 hours later for an update, only to be told 1 more hour. The kicker was that after that hour I went to get my dog and she was STILL on the table. We're talking a basic bath for a 25lb dog; nothing fancy. I tried again today, about 6 months after that ordeal and was given no timeframe. No problem. I called about 2 1/2 hours in and asked how she was coming along and was actually told, "She never showed for her appointment." Are you kidding?!?! I was passed off to another groomer who ALSO told me my dog never showed up, lol. I assured them that if I'm calling them, it's a safe bet I did drop her off, as I don't normally leave it up to her to schedule her appts and get to them on time. She would just oversleep, she's highly unreliable. Finally after whispering amongst themselves they figured out which dog she was and said she "was drying now and just needed her nails clipped". Long story short, it took another hour and a half after this call for her to be ready. And yes...I had to go see them to find out; no courtesy call to me yet again. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra bit for a professional groomer who doesn't take their customers for granted and who can bathe a small dog in under 4 hours. read more

My issues aren't with the store at Great Hills Trail, but with Petco. I actually placed my order online, and was in touch with this store about a product I couldn't believe Petco doesn't carry, and ship to store. I made an order from Petco because they happened to have the selection of artificial aquarium plants I wanted. But they have little selection in anything ELSE, and that's one reason why I don't often shop at Petco. Petco doesn't have fish feeder rings/ ring feeders, which is an extremely basic item that EVERY aquarium store sells. Their mixed and plain blue aquarium gravel is too dark. They don't offer most of the better brands and kinds of betta food - not even online, which is stupid. And, most of all, they do not ship to store - the ONLY chain of stores in this day and age where it IS possible to make orders online that does not! People have been complaining about this for years, but, first of all, Petco evidently thinks its function in life is some sort of beautique store without much selection, and second, it takes a real idiot to not offer ship to store. AND, I was specifically told, no stores in your area are participating in your program! I live in the Austin metropolitan area. They were going to email me a list of the actual places where the stores DO participate, but I've not received it yet. And that list SHOULD be millions of stores long, that they even could email it to me suggests that perhaps in two cities across the country they have stores participating in such a program. read more

They said yes, so I arrived and a rude red headed manager was extremely rude when she was unable to find it. I stayed polite then Johnny stepped in with help.
