From the start I was getting bad information from this store. One person told me how to set up tank incorrectly to selling me fish that they shouldn't have. Speaking to manager today Melissa who kept cutting me off when trying to talk to her. Her telling me I was being disrespectful which in fact I was an unhappy customer. Even had the audacity to say I was yelling. Melissa darling. Look in the dictionary or google and look it up. What are they teaching the young people these days? Oh and when asking her name she mumbled it and I said excuse me? Then with a smart ass remark she said it's on my name tag. I said how can I see while you're running away? I keep telling these incompetent managers/owners. For every one store there are 100 others who will treat you better. The way of the world keeps going two steps forward one step back because of managers like her. All in all compared to other petcos this store has to be on the bottom of the list. Other stores are so clean and I come here the aquarium section is always wet and unkempt when other aquarium areas are dry and clean. The wet floor can cause a safety hazard. I will say the young long haired gentleman has always been courteous and nice even tonight when his "boss" as he calls her was being a piece of work. My words not his. He deserves to be management. My kids went in too start looking at pets while I was at the store next door making a return. no longer than 5 minutes. My kids are 14 and 15 and well behaved and polite kids and wanted to pet a Guinea pig. We were actually looking to make a big purchase buying a new pet and all the things needed to go with it, but the RUDE "older lady with white hair" upset my kid so much when she asked if she could see one that my kids actually left the store and came back to me instead of me coming in. I understand being understaffed and stressed...I've worked customer service and retail for over 25 years....and everyone is right now....but that's no excuse for pure rudeness! You lost customers today. It's a shame people like this are around. Lucky I didn't come in and tell you off to your face, but my kiddo is a sweet kid and just kept saying "it's ok mom"....but lady that's not ok!! We will take our business elsewhere. I have never been more dumbfounded by a place in my life. These people wait till the day of my appointment 15 minutes past,to let me know that they can't do my cat surgery because I don't know what time she ate last. My cats eat from a free bowl. I work nights, I have no idea when she ate last! NO ONE. told me that she couldn't eat a certain many hours before surgery!!!! if someone would've told me that I would've took the bowl up!!! I'm incredibly upset because I already spent nearly $200 on some blood test just for them to not properly inform me of what I need to do before she went in! The manager named Angela makes up policies based on her mood and refuses customers because there is no way she will be reprimanded for her foul attitude and behavior towards customers. Let me start by saying that from the outside, I was expecting a much larger store than what appeared before me upon entering this Petco. No worries though because they carried my dog's brand of dog food and I was in and out in a relatively quick amount of time! The staff was also very helpful in guiding me to the brand of dog food I needed, as well as helping to sign me up for a Petco card. In addition, I was able to pick up a new ball for my furry friend. While the selection isn't the largest, they did carry a good amount of standard items one would expect in a pet store. Not a happy person right now. Took our dogs to get groomed. I have asked them before to put Josie and Gabby in the same kennel, I guess they have never done it just not told me. As Jeannette, the pet smart groomer informed me they would not do that. I said they have done that before, no it is policy that they don't. I said hmm, ok, well do it this time and I will start looking for another groomer. She handed me back Gabby and said ok go, go and look. I lost my shit. I asked for a manager. She then told the manager I was the rude one and sat there and argued with me, stating I was the rude one. Well the dogs are not getting their hair cuts and I will not be shopping there, and I do, did all my pet shopping there. ZERO STARS - I took my small dog to the Petco at Southlands - store #1434 The Petco groomer, Joslyn aka Jos, was extremely rude and unprofessional to me. When I gave Pearl to her, she was VERY rough. She basically said she couldn't brush her because her hair was matted!!?? She had maybe 3 or 4 small spots but that's why she was there, to get them taken care of, and to get shampooed and cut. This is their JOB! This Jos person was so rough brushing my small dog Pearl, a Maltese, she was almost hitting her with the brush, leaving her with red skin and brush burns. I told Joslyn to immediately give me my dog back. Pearl was basically shaking in terror. I complained to Chris the store manager and all he did was give me lip service. He said there is always two sides to any story, but refused to talk to Joslyn while I was there, so he had NO interest in resolving this and obviously does not care about the store's customers. We will NEVER give that store our business again. Anyone bringing their animals to that grooming place needs to be careful. Who knows what she does if the owner isn't there watching. Bogus service from these people. Why call it a gift card, when gift cards are cash redeemable, while merchandise return is not? That's exactly what PetCo lies to customers about. Disappointed. Misrepresented and lied to by associates who do not know the wrongdoings they intact on customers. First off, they don't issue gift cards-- they issue store credit, none-cash redeemable merchandise return cards that have you stuck without your funds, even with hundreds of dollars. They don't care. Including with a receipt. SO PLEASE: Hold onto your original receipts people. "Most of the time people will buy an item with a gift card and then return it onto their personal credit card," lied one manager at the Salida location. Because I tried to return a bunny cage and guess what? The funds are stuck on this trapped store credit, which isn't the problem. But getting mislead is. I tried returning it with the new receipt, manager assured I would get my money back even if I paid with store credit. The manager again assured me it was possible. Biggest mistrust ever. They punish the customer. The problem is exactly questioning why in the hell is every manager and sales associate not trained correctly. Manager then, secondly, assured me I can deposit through a CoinStar exchange machine and get cash. But PetCo, the behemoth of a hassle pet company makes sure to find a way to screw their customers over. Stupid associates call additional associates and managers to tell me the same shit about not getting my money back. Duh, I heard it once. Don't disappoint me again. Screw YOU Petco. 0 chance in the 10 I'll be back to this place. Petco has extremely dishonest advertising. I was under the impression that when I bought online and picked up in store I'd save 10%. Turns out that's not true. So I ended up having to pay full price and then when I realized my 10% off wasn't included, Petco "couldn't cancel" my charge and that I'd have to jump through a ton of hoops. I ended up saying forget it and just waited on my dog food. 4+ hours later, still no email saying I could pick up the food, so I decided to go in myself, pick it up, and let them know. So I go in, there's a massive line and one person working. So I patiently wait, and finally get to the checker and told him I wanted to grab my dog food and head out, he said that was fine, so I went to grab the food, went back to the front and waited again for the non multitasking checker to focus to me again and then he said they don't do online order/pickup anymore. Without any additional help, I asked him to call someone. He did, and asked the question if they did online ordering. Whoever answered mentioned they don't and asked if he needed immediate assistance and he said no. I told him yes he needed assistance and he said they were on the way anyways. So another 5 minutes later, I told him I'm not trying to wait all day and to call his manager, which he finally did, and it turns out the manager was the woman in the fish department with a clear view of me and the front, and the entire situation unfolding at the front with the ridiculous lines, and angry customers, yet she decided to keep playing with her fish. I was dumbfounded when I found out that all this had happened and she just didn't give a crap. I will never shop at another Petco again. read more

The groomers here are amazing. My poor baby was sprayed the other night and I immediately washed her in the reccomended stuff but she still smelled so bad and she got it right to the face/neck/chest. After 2 baths (and I'm disabled I couldn't physically do another) I decided to call up and see if they would take her. They did and had a special deskunking bath process. Dropped her off this morning only expecting it to help slightly (if been warned) but holy moley she smells sooooooo much better they did so good totally exceeding my expectations. I even called into check on her cause she is on steroids as her little nose and face was a bit swollen from the acidity of the spray and the groomer said she was all done but her face and chest was still a little wet cause she really didn't like the dryer (most likely she was sore there) so the groomer was letting her rest a little taking her time. Every time I've called with questions to this certain store they give me really good information. I came in today to get ear cleaner for my pup and the employees were so sweet especially the woman who was at the register. They have decently priced toys for your dogs as well! She has always had such a kind and professional manner when dealing with us and I never worry about leaving Roxy with her because I know she will care for her the way I do. Today was no exception. Took my dogs in to get groomed. I explained that it was the puppies first time being groomed. They said we will take it slow and make it a good experience for her. It wasn't !!! Both dogs were cut to short, uneven. Then how they are acting. Such anxiety that I have never seen in them. Had to go get calming vitamins and toys for our baby girl and a shirt because she was so cold. $50 later at a different pet store because I'll never go back in this store. I watched our groomer with another dog and was appalled. Our other dog was so sore the night he was groomed he had to be carried up stairs at night. If I could kick the groomers butt I would! I've debated writing this review for a while. I got a new puppy a few months ago and decided, against my better judgement, to go to puppy playtime here. I don't know the trainer's name or background. I don't know her history with this one particular puppy either. However, there was a german shepherd mix puppy in the group that every time another dog walked by, she lunged, bared teeth, growled and snapped. To get the dog to calm down the owner and trainer would "praise" this dog until she had stopped doing all the above mentioned behaviors. I must have had a look on my face because when we broke for a "break" the trainer came up to me explaining that she wasn't aggressive. Nope. That was it for me. That dog was clearly dog aggressive and any "trainer" that believes she's not doesn't understand the first thing about dog behavior. That dog is going to be a very large problem for the owner and I'll be the first to blame it on the gal that wants to convince the owner and everyone around her that the dog isn't aggressive. I wasn't going to have my dog killed by a dog that was aggressive and an owner and "trainer" in denial, so we left. On top of being dangerous, it was completely irresponsible to leave that dog in a puppy playgroup where those dogs should be getting positive experiences. read more

Before I begin, let me explain that I've shopped here for a while, spend a lot of money, and make donations just about every time I go in. My last trip there involved me walking over 3 miles to the store to pick up food for my cat as I was out. I got there at 6:00 which apparently was the time they were closing to my surprise. When I walked up to the door there were clearly a bunch of people in the store, however, I was stopped by an employee who told me I couldn't come in. I asked why to which he replied we close at 6 and it is 6 right now. I apologized for getting there when they closed and that I didn't know they were closing then. I asked him if he could please make an exception as I just walked 3 miles, my cat has no food, and that I have no car so going to another store wasn't an option. I told him I know exactly what I want, I just need 30 seconds to grab it and I'll be at the register right after. He rudely turned me down and sent me walking back with no food. The worst part is, I sat back and watched for a couple minutes and the same guy that turned me down let some other woman who just pulled up into the store. Thanks PETCO! I am really upset about my experience today. I brought my cat in for a grooming appt and noticed when I got home that he had multiple bruises. His spine is littered with little purple dots and his right ear is black from bruising at the tip. His cut is uneven and his nails were trimmed way too short, I didn't even ask for nail trimming. I was surprised when I arrived that my normal groomer wasn't available and was told by Jen that she would be grooming my cat. Because we had only had good past experiences I thought everything would be ok. Now I have an injured cat with a poor cut. I am very disappointed and will be looking for a new place to groom my Kitty. It's already traumatizing enough for a cat to get groomed but placing him in a kennel next to a 120 lb dog that won't stop barking sounds like a great idea, let's just add it to the list of wonderful things to happen to the poor guy today (sarcasm)! read more
