Convenient location, but it's never open when an average working adult is able to go. They have written in very small letters on the front door that the last wash is 30 minutes before closing. Why say you close at 5pm when you really close at 4:30??? If you're able to wash your dog during the week between 10am - 4:30pm, then you probably have enough time to wash your dog at home and clean it up. I'm really disappointed from speeding through 45 minutes of Denver traffic to just now figure this out. Regretting the 5 wash pass I purchased because I'm never going to be able to use it. read more

I met Suzy at Heavenly Dog on October 8,2007. sHe was referred to me by my veterinarian, Dr Dan Berman to help train my 11 week old Blue Weimaraner puppies. One is a handful, 2 Weimar pups crosses into bravery or insanity. When we met Suzy she immediately bonded with 'Fritz and Otto' and that bond has grown into genuine love on all sides. Fritz and Otto graduated Suzy's Bootcamp and as graduates are still getting trained by her on daily walks, when boarded at her house, and during baths. Suzy trained us to use once command and hand signals. Suzy will often give us unsolicited pointers if she senses new behaviors developing and has solved sibling rivalry issuesBEFORE they developed into situations. During one of our vacations Suzy surprised us by teaching our dogs to sleep on cushions I the bedroom,not pounce on the human bed, and remain settled and in their beds even with an open door! THIS WAS HUGE! As a busy professional I rely heavily on Suzy to help socialize, groom, exercise and reinforce training. sUzy is 100% invested in caring for Fritz and Otto and she is 100% honest, reliable, professional, knowledgable and invested in everything she does. I never had my cat groomed before and he's been shedding like crazy and it's been so hot so I thought I'd get him a lions cut to help both of us out. I asked for a lions cut but I got something very different.... a half shaved cat. If a person doesn't know how to do the cut, just say you don't have anyone that knows how to do it! Instead I wasted $84 on this terrible job and he still sheds a ton on the top half! I can brush him out better than they did. If it wasn't so stressful for him to take him there, I would have taken him back, but then again I wouldn't trust them to know how to fix it! Not worth it at all. read more

Then I get home I find that they have 3 different times of business listed on google, yelp and Facebook. One of which says the shop is closed on the day of my appointment. We LOVE Heavenly Dog, especially, dog groomer, Jenny O. She is amazing. We rescued a Miniature American Eskimo, Betty, from MaxFund last November. Betty has had a very difficult life and had trouble trusting people. Through lots of love and socialization, she has become an absolute doll. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. When I walked inside it was incredibly loud as another dog was being dried off in the same room, which already scared my dog, and then they lunged for him when I was time to pick him up (different employees were explaining how to best pick him up, talking over each other which of course made me nervous). The entire "before" experience was a little odd, as I was having my different grooming options explained to me but I left knowing it would take around two hours. When I came back, the groomer was rude, passive aggressive and told me that he didn't really want to do the full job because he thought I didn't trust him (ummm...of course I don't? I literally just met you and you're holding the most important thing in my life. Isn't that more of a reason to do a great job, then a half job?) My dog still had tons of hair coming off him, which I pointed out and he said there were a few reasons for it, and started to share. Given he was screaming over the drier and it was incredibly loud and also my ride was waiting outside, I said don't worry about it it's okay. He then made passive aggressive remarks like "sure, sure, you can't make time to hear about your dog well you know what FINE THEN." And other things, clearly making it uncomfortable for me considering...I simply needed to go. I told him that was rude and he got even more miffed. Another employee called after to see what happened and offered to FINISH the de-shed (it wasn't finished??) and I declined, but that was it. Still had to pay $50 for it all. My dog hates baths. Hates them. Anytime he sees a hose or a shower nozzle he has a fit. In fact, some mornings, if I turn the shower on for me and open up the door to go grab something out of my bedroom, Zed will run and hide, assuming it's bath time. I also have the hairiest effing terrier living on earth at this time. I try and keep away the clumps, but he hates being brushed and he hates it when I try and trim out the dreads. So, grooming tends to play second fiddle to running around like crazy and chewing up stuff. Finally, I had it the other day. Zed smelled bad. I had heard lots of great things about this place and I had a coupon (yeah money savings!), so in I marched or rather spazzily walked because Zed was having a fit that he was getting a walk in a new area. I like that they have bath stalls at various heights because, well, I'm pretty freaking short. So I chose the shortest tub and the gentleman working there helped me get all set up. FYI, Heavenly Dog provides you with shampoo, conditioner, a towel, an industrial waterproof apron, the giant air dryer and various brushes and combs. Oh, and water, duh. But if you are going to want to do some trimming and stuff beforehand, you've got to bring that stuff yourself. It was really great that everything I could have needed was right at hand, so I could get this job done quickly. After I got Zed done hopped off the platform and was back to his usual, spazzy self. It will be interesting to see how he reacts the second time we go there since he really didn't know what he was in for when we initially went there. And yes, I will totally be going back there again. Fast setup, easy cleaning and little mess (relatively speaking) what more could a dog owner want? read more

I have never met Suzy, the owner, and I owe her nothing when I write a review of her shop. That said, Heavenly Dog gets all five stars from me because of what I experienced when I went in this morning. Suzy was not there, so I still have not met her. The guy that was there was really low-key and when I went in, he set me up with the shampoo and conditioner of my choice and an apron and I picked one of the three showers for Zeus. I took my sweet ass time wetting him down, then lathering him up, then hosing him down, than conditioning him up, then rinsing him down, then drying him off. I took a very long time because I wanted to make sure that he was totally clean. Not once did I ever feel rushed to hurry and finish. The shop is very clean. There were plenty of utensils for washing and drying him. The price was very reasonable. I have taken dogs to other dog washes before, so I know good from mediocre, and I can say that Zeus will be coming to Heavenly Dog whenever he needs a cleaning. read more

Woof woof! This place is great for all dogs, especially super sensitive like my dog, Sullivan, I've taken him to Petsmart and he really hates it, so I've stopped taking him there. Dogs can actually scent if a place is like a restaurant, shop, or a place just for animals. Sully really hates Petsmart, just by parking at Petsmart and walking towards the shop he shivers and freezes along the way. Not at Heavenly Dog, we walked in and he was normal, sniffing around, getting familiarized, and Suzy does such a great job with the dog that actually relaxes them. Sully was so comfortable with the whole environment and I was able to bathe him; now he looks so white (Irish Jack Russell Terrier) and smell really great! Heavenly Dog is great! Imagine not having to clean every accessory you'd used to bathe your dog, but besides that, sweeping the wet floor, and have to wash an extra towel smelling like a wet dog! Heavenly dog is a convenient stop to drop your furry friend off for an hour or two for a little trim while you wander the adorable street of Gaylord in East Wash Park. The pet groomer is incredibly accommodating and always full of insightful tips when giving your little guy the best care. On our most recent trip, we discovered our dog had allergies and her little pads were inflamed and red. Had we not visited Heavenly Dog, we would have never known and continued to neglect the discomfort of our little pup! They even provide three stations where you are able to give your dogs a bath and blow dry, which makes it easy for me and my big boxer pup. But for the ones with mangy hair that needs to be maintained, you must make an appointment. Considering they only see one doggie at a time makes the wait list a little longer than desired from time to time; however we've never had to wait longer than 3 days to get our schnauzer groomed. And you really can't beat that small business care and quality you'd might otherwise miss at larger, corporate destinations. read more

So...the original store is a DIY Pet Wash. It's around the corner from Gaylord Street and all you have to do is bring your dog. The friendly cats will supply shampoos, conditioners, brushes, towels, an apron (for you), and even blow dryers to keep your sweet little furry-head of a boop comfortable after his/her foray into the clean. ($15 for one wash or $50 for 4.) It's great because you can have a blast with your little one and then leave the suckers at the store to clean up after you -- just like mom! They do offer professional grooming services if you aren't the kind of owner that likes to get too intimate with their pet. It's okay. Wet fur freaks me out, too. At that store, they offer a bunch of obedience classes -- you can definitely find one to suit what you're looking for with group and private classes. Just around the corner, right on Gaylord Street, the owners have opened up a supply store for pets and it has all of the accoutrement's you'd expect to see including food, treats, toys, and collars. This is an excellent spot for both do it yourself and professional grooming, and, as an extra plus, offers obedience classes and sells supplies, also. Grooming is midrange pricewise, but top in quality. The supplies sold at the store part of Heavenly Dog tend to be on the premium side- which is great! There are always smiling faces, both human and canine, coming out of training class. I've chatted with an instructor, who seemed very knowledgeable. I always advise folks that the smaller the business training your dog, the better your chances of individual attention and an experienced instructor are, and Heavenly Dog definitely qualifies for this recommendation. Usually I wash my dog in my tub or out back with the hose, but I decided to give a 'dog wash' a try. The price was very reasonable ($15) for the convenience of not having to clean up my own place. I think if I return I'll bring my own dog shampoo, because the ones I used there seemed really watery, and one smelled like cherry. Personally I don't want my dog to smell like cherry. When I lived in Denver last year, this is where I went to have my lhasa apso groomed. I wish I could remember the groomer's name! She was great. She took special care with him and really paid attention to detail. One day I had an 8:30am appointment, and at 8:35am she called to ask me where I was. I thought that was a bit extreme, but oh well. She never looked like she had taken on too much. I don't ever remember seeing more than 3 dogs, including mine, in there at the same time. That makes me feel better, that she's doing them efficiently and they're not waiting for hours in a crate. I thought the price (around $50 to $60 after tip) was reasonable as well. The only issue I ever had was that the space was very open, and honestly, my dog is a jerk. So he would get scared and bark at the big dogs which I'm sure annoyed those who had the unpleasant fortune of working with him. Sorry, guys! read more

We LOVE Saint Suzy and Heavenly Dog!!!! Our puppy, LuLu, was getting so big so fast and so out of control so fast, we looked around and found Suzy on Yelp. Just in the nick of time... Over a year later, we have the BEST dog and Suzy is a huge part of that. Suzy is crazy good at understanding doggy behavior. It was kind of amazing that she could come in and within 30 minutes identify LuLu's strengths and weaknesses and straighten us ALL out. Be sure to take your pups in for a bath on "wine night" at Heavenly Dog on Tuesdays. Book ahead cause they fill up fast. LuLu doesn't like the bath part quite as much as the puppy play time she gets to have with all of her Heavenly Dog friends afterwards. read more

Does my dog love Heavenly Dog? Noooot really. Do I love Heavenly Dog? OH MY GOD YES. My mutt, Stella hates bath time. Well, she hates all water unless it is a filthy mud puddle at the dog park. She's also only a well trained, well behaved dog when we're in our own home and even then, only part of the time. We traipsed over to Heavenly Dog earlier today and she went bonkers when we got there, super excited, not listening to anything that I asked of her (I mean she wouldn't even sit!) I managed to get her into the shower they pointed me at and clipped to the hook. I had requested help trimming her nails and one of the employees managed to tame her talons quickly and efficiently without any verbal judging of me for letting them get that long. That add on was seriously the best $10 I have ever spent. After the trim I proceeded to clean my filthy beast. She was miserable basically every step of the way, but thanks to the setup at Heavenly Dog, the entire process was super fast. Stella would not tolerate the dryer at ALL but thankfully they provide SUPER absorbent chamois towels so I was able to get her manageably dry without further torment. My dog smells and looks 100% better and once she naps away the trauma and indignity of a bath, I am positive that she will also be 100% happier. read more

I can always trust he will receive a consistent groom. The owner of Heavenly Dog was very friendly and gave me a warm welcome. We use the self wash here in the winter. They have great products and clean, well appointed self wash stations. Everyone I have dealt with have always been very nice and helpful. I always have my toddler in tow "to help" so we can be like a one woman-dog-child circus but they take us in stride. The hours are a bit strange (well for my schedule anyway) and finding parking can be difficult, so that's why I gave them 4 stars. The times I don't use them is when I need to get in for a wash and they aren't open. read more

My review is based on the employee behavior I witnessed while bathing my dog on Saturday and the price of Heavenly Dog. After visiting another self-serve wash in the neighborhood and finding a long wait, we stopped into Heavenly Dog. We used the self-serve wash and observed a few dogs being groomed. The positives: --The shop is cute and the facilities very nice. The stalls are easy to use and they provide you with handy aprons and nice shampoo options. --The young man working reception was friendly and helped us get set-up on our wash. The negative: --While waiting for our turn, we watched a woman trimming nails on a terrified, elderly golden retriever. The table on which the dog was perched was very unsteady, causing the already scared dog to nearly panic when the table would tip forward or backward. Upon finishing the nails, the woman literally tossed the elderly dog into the tub. It was pretty upsetting to see as the floors are slippery and the dog was old enough to be unsteady on its feet. Upon finishing the wash the woman basically kicked the poor thing into the crate when it tried to turn away from the crate. My husband and I were both appalled at how the dog was treated by this woman. It was an older, very gentle, very scared pup. --Evidently after dogs are washed, they are put into stacked crates and surrounded by box fans. I have not seen this done before, but it looked a bit haphazard and unsafe. I know my dog is usually freezing after her baths and the little guys in the crates looked miserable having 3 box fans blowing cold air on them. --The price for a self serve wash was at least $5 higher than at other area places. Granted, the space is lovely, but it does not warrant the price tag. I felt quite upset after leaving Heavenly Dog having witnessed the unfortunate treatment of the pup. I get that grooming dogs cannot be the most fun, particularly on a busy Saturday before Christmas. I also understand that some dogs hate baths and could be hard to control while grooming, but the treatment of this pup was truly unwarranted and the facilities seemed a bit unsafe. We will not be returning to Heavenly Dog. read more

My review is based purely on the grooming service offered here. The facility is very clean and it does look like a great set up for washing your own dog. We have a long haired dog and have always taken him to the groomer 3-4 times per year for touch ups - we do most of the grooming/bathing at home. We recently moved and our old groomer was no longer convenient and this place got good reviews. Our dog HATES going to the groomer. I specifically mentioned this when I made our first appointment and was reassured that the groomer was very good with difficult dogs. The first time we dropped him off the groomer was in a horrible mood - grumpy, short with us, and acted like we were an inconvenience to her. They were supposed to call, but never did, when it was time to pick our dog up. I finally showed up to get him and they were fairly rude about me coming before I was called (it had been 4 hours and the dog had been ready for a while). That being said, the groomer did a pretty good job with the groom and we decided to give her one more chance. The second visit was even worse. The groomer wasn't there when I got there for our appointment, so I had to wait. Our dog had been swimming the day before so he had a few tangles (which I told her about), but he had been thoroughly brushed out 3 days before the grooming appointment and his coat was in pretty good shape. Again they said they would call when he was ready. I received a call 5 minutes before closing saying that he was ready. I rushed over there as fast as I could, but the groomer gave me attitude about having to stay after closing. The real kicker is that she was so rough with our dog that she caused him to have an accident during the groom and I shudder to think how she treated him after that (she was still mad when I picked him up hours later). This has never happened in the 4+ years of taking him to the groomer. He was absolutely terrified when I arrived to pick him up and nearly choked himself trying to get out of there. The groomer had the gall to tell me she didn't want to groom him again because he's "too sensitive" - which is quite fine with me!!! Once we got home, I saw that instead of brushing out the tangles she cut them all out!!! This was the worst groom he's had in 4+ years and I wish I had a hidden camera to see how she treats the dogs she grooms. It is frightening to have left him with her! read more

Yes, our dog needed a bath, and he got a bath today at Heavenly Dog. This was really great, as he stunk and I just changed all the sheets last night, and as we all know, a stinky dog, can make for stinky sheets. I am so very thankful for a stink free canine. Now in all honesty my oldest daughter and I fled to do some shopping, leaving the dog washing to my fiance, my 10 year old and the dog. We returned to a clean pooch and my fiance asking the IMPOSSIBLE.... "Can you trim his nails'? In recent history this request has turned out poorly. As in, really, REALLY bad. Not today, today was different. By no means was it perfect, and my man could have easily lost a nostril or neck vein, but you, ( who's name I did not get and am sooo sorry, but seemed to be the only woman there today) You TRIMMED HIS NAILS...and NO ONE WENT TO THE E.R. THANK YOU, whoever you are. My thighs,and yoga pants and any part of me that will no longer have dog daggers implanted. THANK YOU!
