Meh. Considering how many wonderful places there are around, I wont be back. I'm a breakfast foodie and am always looking for new places to try. I would not add this place to my list. Doughy pancakes, unseasoned eggs, un-browned sausage, okay bacon (but not great) and obviously an uncaring "cook". I asked for "well-done" home fries. They're barely cooked (they look way more done in the picture than in real life) and when I mentioned it to the waitress... "I don't know what to say, I put it on the slip". I asked her if they looked well done to her. That was her response. I know she didn't cook them, but she should care that I didn't get what I (or she) asked for. My son and I just left this place because they refused to prepare his pancake on a separate pan from the griddle due to his anaphylaxis allergy to garlic because they were too busy. As we're walking out the cook tells me they could cook him French toast in a separate pan but not the pancakes. Not sure how that makes any sense. My son left in tears because of his difficultly to eat at a restaurant with his allergy. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They're service is horrible. Recently opened in January in the space formerly known as the Lantern Brunch in Old Andover Village, my friend and I frequently walk by and noticed they have been very busy each time we'e been by so we had to try it! Stopped in on an early Sunday afternoon about an hour before closing. The restaurant was about half full and we were greeted and directed to sit anywhere we would like. Our waitress, a very friendly and lovely young lady, came over immediately to offer coffee. The menus are on the table so as we perused the menu, we decided on: the sunrise special and an omelette. It took about 10-15 minutes for our breakfasts to arrive and in the meantime, we had an initial cup of coffee (pretty good) and when it was topped off, it wasn't very hot so the "2nd cup" was not as good. The sunrise special included 2 eggs (scrambled), 2 slices of bacon, home fries and toast (we chose cinnamon raisin). The omelette included home fries and toast. My friend commented on the small amount of home fries served on her plate ...as in most breakfast places, you are served a mound of home fries. Our waitress came over several times to check in on us and each time offered commentary on other menu items to try in the future. She topped our coffees for a 3rd time (which was a charm) because the coffee was freshly made and hot. Both breakfast selections were good, my friend would have preferred a fluffier omelette and said "you really can't mess up breakfast" ...to which I concur. The one thing that would have added an additional star to the rating would be the acknowledgement/welcome by the owners (who were both present) especially since they weren't incredibly busy. Total tab around $19 excluding tip. We look forward to returning to try some of their lunch offerings which are very reasonably priced. read more

Im ashamed to admit that in all the time this restaurant has been open, I've gone there only recently... actually twice in one week's time : - ) I live within walking distance .... Yes, the inside is the size of a postage stamp, and when busy it's somewhat cramped. However the staff and owner are very attentive and friendly which is something one doesn't always find in this area. Im one who considers breakfast out a real treat, and I ordered 2 scrambled eggs, home fries, and toast.. there are several choices depending. Today I chose marble rye and the last visit raisin. Oh, and coffee of course! Absolutely delicious! Each visit the waitress was very cheerful and accommodating. There has never been a wait, other than the time it takes to freshly cook the food. It's rare that I feel embarrassed for the people that own a restaurant. The good - our waitress was very nice to our two little kids. But that's where it stops. The food here is absolutely terrible. It's pretty hard to bungle a BLT, but ... I had a Chicken Barb ... which is apparently a "Merrimac Valley Specialty" ... I really hope that other Chicken Barbs taste better than whatever I had. Don't bother complaining when you food comes undercooked and looking gross because they wIll accuse you of trying to get a free breakfast. Absolute the worst experience ever!!! What a hidden gem! I don't want to give up my in-town secret but I want this place to be around forever. The service is second to none. Everyone in the restaurant is so friendly. Perry's Plate: Particularly Pleasant Pancakes. Ok. I didn't really have the pancakes, but they looked quite good. Seriously though, this is a great breakfast spot. Not a huge menu, but the basics done very well. I had two eggs, home fries, toast and bacon and it was all done superbly. The request of "Over Easy" is often ignored for "cooked to the point of crispy" but not here. Perfectly runny AS REQUESTED. My companion asked for them over hard and received precisely what she asked for. The bacon was a solid type, not that "tracing paper thin" thing some places serve. The toast was hardy and well buttered (which I prefer) as I'm not a fan of cold toast and hard butter. The coffee was good and quickly refilled. The ONLY thing keeping this from being a Fiver is the space. It's cramped particularly in the winter when EVERYBODY is wearing bulky coats. Worth the stop for a local flavor over a chain. read more

Perry's Plate is a hidden gem. Having grown up nearby I wouldn't have expected such a great little greasy-spoon type place in such an upscale town. Just goes to show that you can always find high quality dinners in the most unlikeliest off places! Prices are average. Service is excellent and quite friendly. Food is good. I get the same thing pretty much everywhere so it's easy to compare: Veggie omelet, home fries, coffee, no toast, and occasionally a side of bacon or sausage links. Exactly today's order. The food came quickly, as the place was not at all crowded, even for a Saturday morning between 8:30 and 9:00. My only complaints are: they only had Swiss, not provolone which is what I prefer, and they skimped on the home fries. Which, given that I didn't get toast they could have easily packed a few more onto the plate. Lastly, the coffee wasn't horrible! Seems like there's often a trade off: good food & lousy coffee, or great coffee, lousy food. This was actually decent dinner coffee. After reading some good reviews about Perry's Plate, we went there for brunch today. We ordered Veggie Omlette & Sunrise special which is basically scrambled eggs & bacons. Both orders were served with home fries & toast. To be honest we did not like the food. The portion size was not enough for an order, the toast slices were quite small and worst was minuscule amount of home fries served with each order. Apart from that the food was bland and had absolutely no flavor. To top it all my omlette had a hair in it! Though they served me a fresh omlette, but I am not going back there again! First time trying this diner. Went strictly on the reviews from Yelp. On a Sunday morning if you don't know where it is or your co-pilot is hungover it's a little tricky because of Waze. Saw a review the Benedict eggs were over poached. Out of four of us three ordered the Benedict and we were not disappointed. Excellent yolks, eggs poached perfectly, the ham was not dried out and the Hollandaise smooth and creamy. Fourth had a ham and cheese omelette and said it was great. Ate here today and we are one and done. The restaurant is really cramped and we noticed the tables and flatware weren't really clean once we sat down, but we usually like small diner type places, so we thought we would give it a chance Waitress was young and very nice, however we were asked if we wanted a grilled blueberry muffin as an appetizer, twice! Who gets appetizers at breakfast? I got tea with milk (container with milk came out dirty), an Omelet with sausage & cheese which comes with home fries and toast. Omelet was ok, home fries were terrible - they were cold and tasted old and, after I had picked a couple of questionable items out (possibly hair and a piece of green string?), I was done. The white toast did not taste good and upon inspection, had something green embedded in one piece in that to me looked like mold, so it was also abandoned uneaten. Partner had Eggs Benedict, which they said were good except English muffin was grilled not toasted, but same complaint on the home fries - old and cold. The normally "clean plate club" member didn't finish it. Portions were small and overpriced. Sorry, but we won't be going back. read more

I'm giving Perry's a three out of five tentatively and will update the review after I've gone again. If it were possible to give half stars I'd give it a 2.5, but alas. I want Perry's to do well because I miss the Lantern Brunch and we need more sit-down breakfast/lunch spots in Andover. The Good: 1) They have Chicken Barb on the menu and it's not just a daily special. This is a huge plus for me as it is my favorite sandwich. How was it? Well it was pretty good, it wasn't Lawton's or Joe's Bungalow, but I was a simple and overall good version of a local classic. I'm very happy that they make them. 2) The location. The Bad: 1) I know they're trying to fit as many customers as possible, but it's so crowded I could barely get to my table... By sacrificing a couple of two-tops they'd make the place more relaxed and safer, I'd hate being a server here because I would constantly be afraid I'd scald someone with coffee if I tripped. It just seems like a dangerous inconvenience. 2) No silverware on the tables upon arrival and had to ask for spoons after having been served coffee. 3) severely cracked mug and a broken maple syrup dispenser that was covered in a layer of syrup, two things that should have been tossed and replaced immediately. The mug may go unnoticed, but not the dispenser. That's regular end-of-day restaurant maintenance. The Ugly: Well, I realize this is a matter of personal taste so it doesn't weigh too much on the rating but when something strikes me as undesirable, in my opinion, like a restaurants atmosphere, I put it in this section. I have no problem with the owners putting a personal spin on a restaurant, but this place is over the top. I get putting up some sports memorabilia, local high school and college banners, or some stuff about your family's heritage but for the life of me I can't figure out why a place which seems like a breakfast place needs a gigantic TV in the corner and another hanging over the bar just above the heads of people sitting at the counter. Nor do I understand plastering the windows with football posters and having your logo decal take up two of your three picture windows in near entirety. It seems like something silly to complain about, which again is why it has hardly any baring on the review, but it makes the space feel very claustrophobic and overly busy/distracting. My apologies for the long-windedness, but I think Perry's has potential, and the few things in the bad section can be easily remedied and because we only tried a couple of the menu items I'm willing to go back a couple times and confirm this experience or be pleasantly surprised. My wife, myself and my three-year-old just left. I will never go there again. We made a very simple order ,a Chicken Barb no mayo ,soup,fruit cup and a chocolate chip pancake for my daughter. Pancake came over no syrup and none of us had any silverware. Then the Chicken Barb came over had mayonnaise. Still no silverware or fruit cup. When the waitress Briana came back we mentioned to her this has mayo and I asked for no mayo she said I can fix that, and took the chicken barb back. When she came back it just had a new bun on top and there was still mayonnaise on some of the chicken. I see that they're open on Thanksgiving from 6 a.m. to 11am, I would recommend everybody avoid this place because if they can't handle the crowd they had there today I don't know how they'll handle the crowd they possibly will have the day of the feaster or five. read more

Everything was ok until I almost bit into moldy toast, when I notified The waitress, she asked me if I wanted another piece (UM...NOOOO!) and then she said "I will just leave the bill here." The siituation could have been handled better by the waitress and who I assume was the manager. I asked the waitress if she notified the manager and she said "we checked the bread" (not very well...) I stated that I thought the meal should be free . I was told by the manager that the waitress did the right thing by offering me more toast (!???) She did apologize and explained that they had been on vacation for 10 days, but they checked the bread and everything else...then I was told that maybe they could take a few dollars off the bill.
