Unfortunately, this wasn't the right place for me. I'm very particular about cleanliness, especially when it comes to restaurants. The plastic cups our drinks were served in looked heavily scratched, cloudy, and worn to the point that they appeared dirty. Whether they were clean or not, the appearance alone completely turned me off. I ended up paying for our drinks but decided not to order any food because I no longer felt comfortable eating there. We have been meaning to try this place for ages and are so glad we finally made it! Our picks for this first trip were 1) the Blueberry Buckwheat Pancakes with Walnuts and a side of turkey bacon and 2) Jim's Backyard Scramble. We would absolutely get both again. The pancakes were lovely and thick and the option to add walnuts added a great texture. There were also at least ten specials posted (not on menu) and the chorizo eggs benny is going to be my pick next time (hoping it is still there!). I also had a green tea with my meal which was nice. The menu is classic but with a few twists. Definitely count on some nice looking specials not on the menu, too. There is parking right out front but we grabbed a space on the other side of the street. If you do that not that there seem to be both one and two hour spaces so be sure to pick the right one. Service is fast and super friendly and helpful. You can pay with cash or Venmo or Cash App and they have ATM atm inside if you need it. Seating is mostly booths and comfortable and well maintained. You do need to get the code for the bathroom but it is easy and also very well maintained. Eli's Place is small and clean. The wait was under 20 mins which was surprising on a relatively busy Sunday morning. Clearly lots of regulars based on the staff interactions, which was nice to see. Prices are more expensive than one would expect from the outside of the building but again the inside is neat and clean and well appointed. Cash only but they have an ATM near front door. Parking can be a challenge. We did find plenty across the street heading the opposite direction. Coffee was as you'd expect for a breakfast place. Not amazing but solid cup of coffee. The food was good but honestly just good. Nothing wrong but nothing amazing. The homemade hash was very good and is homemade. You actually have an option homemade or from a can. My omelette was too watery. I would prefer if the veggies were quickly cooked first before going into the omelette. Home fries were seasoned and homemade and were good. The English muffin was super big and good. My husband ordered the raisin toast which was good tasting but not homemade. French toast again was good but didn't knock you over with flavor. Went here for breakfast while visiting the daughter and her family as it was nearby and had good reviews. Parking was a challenge as some of the street spaces said, "one hour parking" (and were full) and others "residents only", so I parked in the lot next door which had tow away signs but no one seemed to care. Eli's was busy even for mid morning which was a good sign. Small place. Sat at the counter. It took a bit to get any service as they were pretty busy. But the service was friendly. I had already perused the menu on line so had a pretty good idea of the choices. There were specials on the board. It was confusing because the board had hash and eggs with one price while the menu had what seemed to be the same thing at a lower price. I knew I wanted the Irish Benny, so I ordered it, and when the waitress asked if I wanted the homemade hash (on the board) or the canned hash (on the menu) it all became clear. I went for the homemade version at the higher price and I'm glad I did. It was excellent - the hash was great with a high meat to potato ratio and everything was cooked perfectly. Even the English muffin was actually toasted instead of soggy. I had the baked beans on the side which I could have skipped. Just standard campbells style from a can. With a cup of tea and just the Benny the bill came to 21$ before tip so pretty hefty. But it was a larger portion than I really needed. I'll go back and try just a regular egg platter. Note the place is not quiet. There was a lot of shouting out of the orders in the kitchen which was quite lively- so not a place for reflection. read more

Holy menu....so they have a tv screen that lists at least two dozen items that aren't in the menu so you have to watch to see what you want and there area lot to choose from...from homemade hash to crab cakes to scrambles...it's only a breakfast place so they close at noon! Make sure you stop by between 10-11 am, it's not as hectic...it's a super clean restaurant. Bright and light with a diner charm... As for the food, well...I ordered scrambled eggs and they were more omelette-style than scrambled and I am not a fan of that...I like my eggs to look like eggs and not egg mix...plus they were bland bland bland. As were the homefries, I had to add salt and I very rarely use salt. My mom really liked the corned beef hash, she said they were really good but also agreed that the hash browns were bland, no seasoning at all and mushy! Not yummy! They do have maple apple chicken sausage but it's not on the menu...so if you don't like pork, it's a good substitute. The other thing I would comment on is that the servers have a little snark. I accidentally ordered the wrong item (due to miscommunication) and the woman who brought it to the table insisted on arguing with me about the order. I do not eat pork and I will not eat food that has been with pork so instead of just taking it away...she had to tell me that I ordered incorrectly. Okay, thank you. I'm fine with paying for the mixup but there was no need to argue. That and the fact that almost everything I ordered was flavorless means that I will not be going back. read more

Love this place, always solid service and consistent food. The staff have always been kind. I like to visit this spot time to time when Im in town visiting. I miss those small town east coast prices. I had a really good home made hash omelette. That's typically my go to with mixed fruit as I try not to eat too many potatoes. The home made hash is very flavorful. I typically chase that with a cup of black straight coffee no sugar or milk. The coffee is pretty average nothing that's out of this world, as you would expect in a small diner. Parking is not hard to find, you can park on either street. The location itself is on the small to medium side but I always find a seat asap. This place can get pretty busy on Sundays as families frequent. Elis Place has load of specials and offer waffles, pancakes, and other essential breakfast items. Still an awesome little hole in the wall diner. Yelp says they are open until 12:30 on Sundays. This is not true they are open till 12:00. We got there at 11:39. I felt bad going in but I was hungry. They were great. Food was delish. BF got the Capt Crunch French Toast with a side of sausage. I got the Steak & Cheese Omelet with peppers/onions and extra cheese and a side of Hash. Everything was super tasty with the exceptional the hash, it was just ok, nothing special typical out of a can type thing. Their raisin toast is spectacular and the home fries are delish. Another uneducated business owner when it comes to service animals. To be clear, my dog is clearly marked in BOTH sides of his vest in very clear, legible BLOCK LETTERS. The owner Marcia came over and said we couldn't come in. I then said my dog is a service animal as you can clearly see. She then said oh well you have to sit outside how do these uneducated people end up owning a business??? She then said I have to check if anyone is allergic. I'm not making this up. We carry cards around to educate the uneducated and we handed it to her. She began grasping at straws and said she can refuse to serve me because of my "aggression". I never approached her personal space, never raised my voice and didn't call her names unless you count "uneducated about federal disability act" counts as name calling. Keep in mind the entire time there is a police officer there eating that doesn't say a word. We handed her the federal law card we carry around and we sat down to eat but my wife and I agreed we didn't want to give out money to someone that is prejudicial when it comes to service animals. If you suffer from a disability or have family or friends that do or if you have a service animal I would skip this place. I know this review won't make them go out of business but I also know it will prevent at least one person from eating there to stand in solidarity with their disabled brethren. Do not give money to rude, uneducated people that violate the federal disability act. On Monday I will take the next appropriate step and file a formal complaint. read more

Service was awful. We left without even eating. The Portuguese speaking head waitress, I believe she is related to the owner, was rude and condescending. The owner in the kitchen kept yelling orders in a loud voice. The head waitress decided to go on being nasty to the nice waitress who was serving us at first, instead of bringing the sleeve for the paper cup in which my hot coffee came... I work in a hospital and I had to endure her preaching forever about the governor's order to sanitize tables between patrons thus trying to tell us we should be ordering even when we had told them we had a friend on her way. Just for the record, there was no people waiting for tables. Nobody at all. I live nearby and will never set my foot there again. Before moving to RI, I became a regular here at Eli's place. I got to know the amazing family behind this business and really can appreciate the heart and passion they put into their business. The food is absolutely delicious - you really can't miss. From Marcia's healthy options, to the delicious Eggs Benedict, you really come out feeling satisfied. It's definitely a hidden gem within the outskirts of Lawrence. I recently went this past weekend for the first time in two years and the place is even better than before!
