What a unique atmosphere this place has, this is one of the reasons why I love living on the East Coast, one can come upon these very very local places where folks know each other and are speaking an old New England (Boston) accent with a sense of humor and open-mind, genuine chit chat between the waiters and the customers they know by first name. (Not to mention surrounded by historic red-brick buildings!) They make the food their own local way, not greasy or overly salty like most places. All fresh ingredients, you can watch the cook working very hard (I hope he gets a break soon!). Some customers, including one I was with, were from other countries there and I was happy to see how warmly and equally they were treated. Will definitely be back next time I visit the area. Thank you! My only suggestion -- I'm allergic to artificial scents, the table cleaner was hurting my throat, it would be great if it could be replaced with an unscented one or one with a less strong smell. read more

I wasn't game enough to try the Reese or M&M Pancakes though other diners sure were and they looked Amazing. I had standard eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns and they were as good as I hoped. The staff really bumps this place into another category beyond great. They are lovely. They greeted us like we were old friends and greeted the regulars like family. Prices are refreshingly down to earth and the portions are huge!! Get there early because it fills up fast. We arrived at 8:00 am on Sunday and it was already full. We've been going to Eli's nearly every weekend for many years. We really enjoy the food, especially Eli's home made hash, which is available most weeks. Every week they have quite a few specials on the boards to choose from along with a pretty extensive regular menu. Eli's is so much better than the standard diner fair. This place is amazing family owned run and operated. I love breakfast and this is the place to get it, I am satisfied (my stomach) till dinner. The huevos rancheros is my absolute favorite ,very filling. The waitstaff is friendly and make you feel like a regular/family. Save your money. We were told a table for 5 would be just a few minutes. We waited well over a half hour and were seated next to the kitchen. The chef was raucous and disruptive as he bellowed to customers at the counter. The food was average at best. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs over easy soft. My eggs arrived hard and I requested a replacement to which they gave me one, my meal came with three. I have no idea what they did to the shredded potatoes but I still don't know what they resembled and just why the heck were they were the color of Orange Crush. Trust me, it wasn't the seasoning. The wait staff was pleasant but seemed to be walking on egg shells (no pun intended) trying not to upset the chef (and possible owner?). The coffee tasted like something you get from a gas station vending machine in the desert. The final insult was when my daughter helped herself to 5-8 tiny free dum-dum lollipops and the chef/owner made snide comments and chastised her across the dining room about also yelled about the "extra" egg for my dish. He repeatedly made known his displeasure. I swear I'm not embellishing this experience. Please take heed and tell fellow diners to avoid this place. They will thank you. read more

This place is decent, and usually has no line on peak Saturday or Sunday mornings, which is how I've wound up coming back to Eli's since the food is pretty un-noteworthy. Sure the eggs and toast are OK. The coffee is OK. The waitresses seem kind of rushed, but they are OK too. What was not OK was the time I ordered pumpkin pancakes and they were served still raw in the middle. Doughy batter pancakes are a big no-no in my book. Icky. But these things happen. The worst part was when I sent them back for being underdone and the waitress actually argued with me on this point, stating that she was sure that the cook had allowed for the extra time needed for pumpkin batter, finally asking if I was sure that they weren't done? Yeah. I'm sure. Definitely not the best place around for breakfast, but when you can't stand to wait even 2 more minutes for a cup of coffee, Eli's will do. Just don't order pancakes. read more

Nice small place I had the western omelette which was real good. The fruits were good. The pancakes are better than ihops and I like their pancakes. My omelette was well made with just the right amount of everything and tasted fresh. There orange and apple juice are from regular store brand juices. The French toast were also good. read more

My wife and I have been here a few times. We find the service good and the staff friendly. But mostly the menu is exceptional. There is a wide variety. Where else can you get buckwheat walnut pancakes? And they don't skimp with the walnuts! We've always been pleased. Simply put, Eli's is consistent, fresh, made-to-order food at an awesome value. Breakfast or lunch, it is one of the least expensive (if not THE least expensive) restaurants in the area. Where else can you get a BLT that has 4-5 strips of bacon, fries, and a drink for under $5? That's cheaper than McD's... For real food! Their menu is basic, but covers all the bases. Their food is good, served in large quantities and cooked with care, but you won't be having mahi-mahi omelets here. Eli and his staff are extremely nice, accommodating (no fish sold here, but they make me tartar sauce for my fries), and will always remember you by name. One star off for the limited lunch menu... Eli says "I'm a breakfast guy, leave lunch to the others" (Romano's... Way overpriced, Paisano's... Yuck!, etc.), but he offers a better lunch value than anyone else in the area. A few wraps, some more burgers, and a couple salads and I'd be going there more often. One can only have so many BLTs... :) Definitely a hidden gem! Just had breakfast here today. It was exactly what I was looking for. Clean, casual local atmosphere. Very friendly waitstaff. Good, fast service. Busy but not crowded. I had perfectly cooked eggs, with wheat toast and corn beef hash and a side of fresh fruit. The coffee was hot and fresh and the waitress came by a few times to see if I needed more. The toast seemed somehow better than what I normal get in this kind of environment. The hash was delicious, a little crispy, not greasy. The fruit, a mix of grapes, bananas, strawberries and cantaloupe, was cold a fresh and really sweet. My buddy had a similar meal and the whole bill was $16. It was a great Sunday morning breakfast. Went to Eli's with the wife this past Sunday . Arrived at 12:15 as we didn't know they closed at 12:30 . They were very happy to serve us . I had 2 scrambled eggs and ham plus home fries and white toast . My wife had a breakfast sandwich special . Both orders arrived hot and were plentiful . The coffee was hot and refills were offered without having to ask . The service was spot on . This was our first trip here and it won't be the last . The hash was not greasy at all, which can be a problem at some places. Although I didn't try one this visit, their homemade muffins looked to die for! Had breakfast here today with my dad. Simple 2 egg breakfast w/homefries and toast. No complaints. The endless coffee was steaming hot and our waitress was very friendly. I wouldn't say service is slow, but it isn't fast either. Only one server on a Thursday morning, so sit back, relax, and engage your company in conversation. The price is also right. We used to go there a lot, because of the low key neighborhood atmosphere and good, but reasonably priced food. It is not as good as it was. The ham pieces on the eggs benefits are minuscule now. One of us got our meal 5 min later than everyone and it wasn't even right, then he had to wait another 10 min for his pancake. Also had to ask for jam 3 times.
