We had a very nice Sunday breakfast at the new Dominic's diner in Lafayette Square. Beautiful renovated space, ample parking, nice quality cuterly and cloth napkins! Wow, I was pleasantly surpised. Our server was polite, knowledgeable, and on point. Food - came out quick and was fresh and delish. Many healthy options too. I had the breakfast bowl- eggs, turkey sausage, grains, roasted veggies, red potatoes, avacado, black beans and corn. Everything was really good and a huge portion. I've been a fan of Dominic's Diner at the airport for years. And when I visited your new location in Lafayette Square for the first time today, I was blown away at how beautifully laid out it is! Sadly, I was not impressed by the unexpectedly slow service from my favorite server, and even less so by the horribly overcooked onion rings. Apparently, the chef agreed that they were inedible and yet made no offer to replace them with something else. The buffalo chicken finger wrap was also inedible, with way too much sauce making it sloppy and impossible to pick up and eat like wraps usually are. I had breakfast at Dominic's Diner this morning with a some coworkers around 9 a.m. We had a group of 7 and they asked that we wait in the seating area by the front for the whole party to arrive (seems to be their policy even if they have table space available). They were able to accommodate 6 people at one table, but our 7th member had to be at his own table, and they said they were unable to move tables together. The view of the airport runway is really neat and not something you get often at a diner. They had big windows overlooking it so we got to watch a few planes take off during our meal. Our server was kind and patient, and she checked on us just enough during our breakfast. Our drinks and food came out quickly and the coffee was hot and fresh. I ordered 2 pieces of french toast, a fried egg, and a side of bacon. Everything was yummy! Egg was runny like I'd asked for it and it was still hot when it came out. I liked the french toast but it wasn't amazing, probably wouldn't order it again. The bacon was crispy and not overly greasy. Everyone else at my table really enjoyed their food. A couple of us tried the omelets and those seemed to be a hit. I think I'd come back to Dominic's, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The food is pretty good, the view is definitely cool, and I liked the service. However, probably not the best breakfast spot for groups of more than 6 people. read more

WE love going out for breakfast so I tried Domenic's last week as it was recommended to me. The hash omelette was probably made with a single egg as the hash was very thinly wrapped by egg so naturally the egg wasn't fluffy and light just over cooked and barely any egg flavor at all. It had some shells so they gave me a single fried egg at my request. The hash was flavorless probably not made daily there and the hash browns were lukewarm and partially burned. I left 1/2 of my meal behind which I have literally never done at Duffy's Diner in the several years I've been going there and spending easily more than $500 yearly. Service from start to finish was horrible ... came in with a party of two and was told 40 min wait which is normal for a weekend. My girlfriend puts her name in hostess clearly not paying attention puts in the wrong name. Now 40 min later every party that's come in after us has been sat and or has left we go inside and then party's that came in after us are still being seated meanwhile there are 5 open tables ...the hostess finally seats us over an hour later. Then we order the hungry man and a western omelette. Now the amount of food I got for the hungry man was not worth the 14.50 it was listed at cold potatoes the serving size was kinda small and you have to choose between getting toast or French toast which was one squished slice of bread. My airplane and Dominic's Diner share the same airport so I've been coming here on and off for 10 years. If you're arriving by plane then stop in for a meal. But if you plan to arrive by car then be aware of certain inconveniences. They have a strange seating rule whereby they won't seat you unless and until every member of your party is present, even when there are empty tables. So if you drop-off at the front door your elderly grandparents with walkers or crutches, on a cold or rainy day, while you look for a parking space, the waitress will refuse to seat your grandparents until you arrive, leaving them standing around, tired and uncomfortable - even though there are multiple empty tables in plain sight. Same thing with a busy young Mom who is dropped off juggling crying babies and kids; she's forced to stand there waiting for Dad to find a parking space and come in before they will seat her - even though there's an empty table available right next to her. The other strange thing is that they don't allow even the simplest menu substitution; for example, if a breakfast is described with eggs and bacon but you prefer sausage, which is also available on the menu, you cannot get them to make the substitution. And if you are annoyed by this and insist, or if you ask to see the manager, the owner/cook comes to your table and sometimes will angrily chastise you for giving the waitress a "hard time"; I have even seen customers told to leave on account of what they asked for. The last caveat is that they take cash only. read more

LOVED this place for years, but went in a few weeks ago and the food and service has always been great. Plus a terrific casual atmosphere. But a few weeks ago, they were somewhat busy, with short staff like most places now. The owner was sooooooo rude to me when I called the terrific server Samantha over to ask about our food after 35 minutes of waiting for a simple breakfast. He screamed across the room at me-"we're busy! We have no staff" loudly, and everyone looked at him with horror. Then, he was yelling at his two servers who were working so hard, and kept berating them to get their food, clear the tables, etc. This is just a note to him, to tell him that he needs to chill out, he's not alone in being short staffed, but other establishments that are post notes on their door to that effect, are calmer and NEVER yell at their staff , or customers!!!! read more

He told me "what are you afraid of a little bug" bugs are disgusting creates no one knows where they've been. So yes I am scared that I don't want a gross bug in my food. We came in Thursday of school vacation week with my 2 and 8 year old for lunch. My 2 year old has trouble with restaurants but we were visiting my mom who loves dining out and I was hoping maybe the planes would help as he's obsessed and did they ever. The staff were so nice they gave us a great table to observe from and were so accommodating and kind with the kids and us having to clear menus and condiments he'd otherwise knock over. The food though was such a great surprise my mom loved her fish and chips and we all got brunch and the pancakes and French toast were unbelievably good and could've totally stood alone without syrup which is impressive (not that they were too sweet they just didn't need to be drowned the batter was clearly great). My kids loved it and I can't say enough about finally getting to sit down and enjoy a meal out where everyone was happy and the atmosphere was so nice and welcoming. Warning: The owner may have a meltdown if you criticize his food. I have been to this diner with family many times over the years and found it a good place to get brunch. Never had any issue with the food and never had any reason to send food back to the kitchen. Today for the first time my mother and aunt were served clearly blackened and burnt raisin toast and politely asked for new toast. The server readily agreed but then the chef/owner came out and yelled at us that it was impossible to make the toast any different and accused us of making outrageous demands. We were so shocked we could hardly respond. Also, we have often ordered raisin toast there and it was never blackened, so he was incorrect. The owner's behavior was completely unacceptable. I would advise anyone not to go to this restaurant because you should be able to eat without being afraid of being yelled at with no provocation. Edit: In response to the owner, all I can say is that we have really enjoyed your restaurant in the past and if we had continued issues with the food as you claim, we would not have kept coming back for years. I was so disappointed this morning at Dominic's. I have never been before but had heard lots of great things. We arrived around 9:30 AM. We told the two young boys at the "Please Wait To Be Seated" stand, that we were a party of 2. There were 2 parties waiting before us. Tjey told us that it would be 20 minutes. The two boys were very stoic, not a smile or any expression at all. Didn't look like they wanted to be there or even cared about anything. I took a seat and watched the diner start to clear out. The 2 boys were also in charge of cleaning the tables. And they weren't in any rush whatsoever! I don't think they could have gone any slower if they tried. One of the parties that were waiting, I noticed, were also watching how slow they were moving. I'm not sure how long they had been waiting. One of them got up to ask how much longer because we could clearly see there were at least 4 tables open and clean. They were told that they couldn't seat anyone until the kitchen could get caught up. Really?? They couldn't seat the people and at least serve them coffee?? I am NOT the type of person that walks out of a restaurant, but this morning I did. I will never go back. And I'm sad because it had such a great retro feel to it and I was looking forward to seeing the planes take off and land. I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

I've had my share of chocolate chip pancakes but the chocolate chip pancakes at Dominics were THE BEST. The chips were not just sprinkled on top, but incorporated into the batter and generous. The Oreo cookies I added for 50 cents provided a layer of crunch that was excellent. The pancakes themselves were plate-sized, with 2 being more than enough for me. The pancakes had so much flavor with the chocolate chips and Oreos that syrup was not needed. For $5, a bargain all the way around. With breakfast for 3 under $20, I will be back! read more

Let me start off by saying this USED to be a very nice establishment. It's been years since I have been here and they have REALLY let themselves go. The food is horrible. Most of their items are bought from market basket, and the pancakes are paper thin. I was honestly disappointed with the whole experience. I ordered hash, and it's was awful, I told her I was not a "fan" of the hash, she (the waiter with the yellow dirty acrylics) yelled " she's not a fan, I told her it was homemade". Which was rude. When the bill came, I asked to have the hash removed, she stated, "you ordered it just because you didn't like it doesn't mean we are removing it". I said ok, and paid for food I didn't eat. Then she look dumbfounded when she was left with no tip. The customer service was POOR! I should of left her a penny for good luck! read more
