Used Perry Moving when moving from Ellicott City, MD to Richmond (Henrico), VA. It was a disaster! Several pieces of furniture were damaged; one of the movers tried to repair a 200 year old armoire and did further irreparable damage. A bed was missing some parts; they have yet to be replaced. When I noticed that a large oriental rug was missing, it "miraculously" appeared several days later from the driver. One of the workers was very aggressive when I paused for a moment before answering one of his questions. I am still trying to get things straight with their complaints person now nearly two months later. The sad thing is my realtor, Bob Lucido, recommends Perry to his clients. Beware! read more

They canceled on me at the last minute!!!! It would have been the third time we used this company- so disappointed! I was beyond shocked when right after confirming things via email AND on the phone, I received another call stating they didn't have a driver for our move. I had three days to find a different company to empty our storage bin and move our items from our temporary place to a different state. June is the busiest time for moving companies. Would definitely recommend this moving company. We were really happy with the four guys who showed up on time. Throughout the move one guy kept asking us if we were happy with the service, we really liked that kind of customer service. They all were pretty friendly with us too. One guy was so great he was just holding conversations with us all day and probably packing/moving more than anyone else. We paid hourly and were quoted for an 8 hour move. When we all noticed there was no way they would finish in 8 hours, instead of charging us more, they hauled ass and got the job done in time. For all moving companies that want to know what right looks like, Perry's is the standard bearer. They are professional on the phone, will do everything to accommodate a last minute move and so on. We were no showed by Guardian Moving and Storage and after many calls to many different movers, Perry's literally rerouted a nearby truck to our location to move our furniture after they were finished with another move in the vicinity. My recommendation and in my opinion I would definately not use this company. I also was very disappointed with Perry Moving and Storage. We spoke on the phone several times, arranged for an estimate, accepted the estimate and then received a phone call telling me they were not available on the required date. If I could give them zero stars, I would . They were over three hours late, calling me every hour to tell me they would be another hour . Once they got there they moved to so slow I actually had to help them. They left my belongings at the loading dock so they didn't have to make multiple trips, which I had to move as well. They took over two hours to get to my new apartment which was 30 minutes away and we left at the same time . They didn't have to move any furniture , anything heavy, just boxes and a television . My quote was told it would be max $500. They charged me $945 at first when they went to give me my rate . Charging me for abused fees like tape, which I provided plenty of them and had already packaged and protected the items myself . I was charged $843 for 4 hours of their time , 2 hours which were spent with them driving to who knows where. After talking to their manager who was beyond unintelligent to say the least, and so disrespectful, I decided to just pay so I could get them out of there . I would never use nor recommend this company to ANYONE. read more

I have nothing but praise for Perry Moving and Storage. They do use Wheaton in some of their interstate moves, but in our case our drivers and movers were all Perry people. Everyone from Steve, the sales rep, to Tara in the office, to the movers at pickup -Vernon, Doug and Antonio and at the delivery end- Maurice and the other guy with him (Mike?) were outstanding. They were friendly, efficient and conscientious and had great communication skills. I interviewed 5 movers and as concerned as I was days prior to the move, my concerns floated away as soon as i met Perry's movers. What a great bunch of guys! They all made what could have been a very stressful, expensive and worrisome event, fun instead! Tara communicated regularly about the status of the movers and even took calls from home. With some of the horror stories I've read about movers holding belongings hostage and demanding more money before delivering or they would just drive off with the belongings, I was on high alert, but this company is terrific. They inspected everything before they put it in the truck, took pictures in some cases and made a very thorough inventory. Everything was delivered when promised (within a week after it was picked up- Maryland to Oklahoma). Nothing was broken or lost. Ive moved countless times in my life and this was by far the smoothest, least stressful move I have ever experienced. I cannot say enough good things about Perry moving and Storage! This is our second time using Perry Moving and unfortunately it was not as good as it was previously, primarily because the quote given for the job wasn't even close to the bill I received. I asked for a detailed invoice of materials and labor and I am still waiting. The moving crew was exemplary but the estimate was done shoddily and with NO attention to detail- which is what lead to the overages. You quote me 4 movers and a packer and you send me 3 movers and a packer- so yes the time will increase- simple project management here folks! I am 3 + months pregnant, could not lift a thing and had to move my 4 bedroom home in less than a week. Perry moving called me on a Saturday which is a pleasant surprise to find a business as committed as this. They scheduled me for 3 days later. The truck pulled up right on time, the 3 movers were wonderful to work with. They were very helpful and basically went to work. I didn't have to direct them other than the initial walkthrough. I found myself relieved from the second they got there. The day was long for them but they never stopped. To finalize my day, the owner of the company himself stopped by at the end of the day to finish up the loading of the pods. The service and commitment was the best I have ever experienced. Worst move I ever made! While making claims of reducing the stress of moving, they only increased the stress from the time the contract was signed until delivery. In print and online this mover claims: "remarkable service" "help people in the stressful situation of moving" "complete customer satisfaction" "make your move...stress-free" Expected more - received less! Total lack of communication and follow-up. They asked for a quality survey before packing was completed, before loading and before delivery. Damage to dresser corner (stressed wood split) and side scratched. So much for reduced stress by using Perry Moving. There has been no contact with Perry since August 6, 2015. We just used Perry Movers to move us from Maryland to Sarasota. They were wonderful. The price was competitive and the service exceptional. They went above and beyond what was contracted for. There were no extra charges, and in fact, and they provided a wardrobe and a couple of extra boxes for special items at no charge..Nothing was lost or damaged and they even insisted on removing a bookcase for us that was bolted to the wall so another piece of furniture could fit. Both the three man crew that loaded us and the two men who unloaded us were extremely professional and pleasant. We contracted Perry Movers to move in Howard County. My wife left her $1500 Diamond encrusted watch on top of one of the boxes. On moving day and in the chaos and with 3 young kids, my wife forgot to the put the watch back on her wrist. At the end of the day, when we started to get settled into our new house, my wife realized that the watch was missing. We immediately contacted the owner who right away went on the defense and stating "sorry you have no proof and we are not responsible". Without recourse we filed a police report but the watch never turned up. I would avoid doing business with this company like the plague. The owner clearly does not care about honor or his reputation in Howard County. read more

I got several quotes from several moving companies but decided on Perry Moving (PM) at the end due to good reviews on Angie's List. They also beat another competitor's quote, which gave me a good feeling that I made the right choice. The move was uneventful. They manage to do a decent job. However, the bill came and the charges were exorbitant. I was quoted for 9 hours of moving, and in the end, was charged 5 more hours than the original quote. I called the office to contest the charges. No one returned my call in a timely fashion. Everyone dodged my phone call. I felt that they were very eager to have my business initially but did not handle me appropriately when things became challenging. One person passed me to another, from the office manager, back to the original estimator to the warehouse manager. No one wanted to talk to me. Several weeks go by I decided to write to the owner and explained my situation. I got a text back from the estimator via Text. He told me that out of the 5 hours that was over charged from the estimate, he was only able to take 2 hours off my bill. That was all that was offered me. No phone call from the office was made to me to explain the situation or no one offered any support to make me feel more at ease with the whole situation. I also had to use Perry Moving warehouse temporarily until I move to my next destination. I was charged monthly for my items. (Unless, you absolutely have to use their warehouse for storage, I don't advise it either.) Their fees are twice as much as the storage unit elsewhere. Moreover, I had to move my things out of their warehouse for I did not have access to my things. The company is located in Jessup, MD. According to PM, if I need to access my things, I would have to pay someone at the warehouse to get to my crates. The mover would charge me per hour, per person to assist me in the process of retrieving my things and to move things back into the crate when I am done. So it could get costly. You do the math. So, I finally found a another local storage unit near me. I made a reservation when I could move my things to the new place. I called Perry Moving to alert them of the move date. The new place could only hold the reservation for 2 weeks. When I called PM, I asked if they could pro-rate the charge that I had paid them at the beginning of the month already since my moving date is set for earlier in the month. The office manager, Kathy, was very unfriendly and cold. She told me that I was given enough credit already. And No, Perry Moving do not pro-rate the monthly charge. You move out mid month, you lose what you paid for the rest of the month. The move date arrived. I was given an estimate of 10 hours that it would take to move my things into the new storage unit. I was promised a 4 men crew and was told that they would arrive by 10. They did not arrive until 11:45A. The crew didn't call until 11A. FYI, the office is closed on Sat. So if you want to check on the crew b/c they are late, you can't. They were friendly. But they were not very efficient. You have to watch them a little. Most of them smoke, so they take smoke breaks. They were hitting on other clients at the storage facility. They were folding pads that they use to minimize breakage on my clock. And there were a lot of those pads that they had to fold. (I wonder why they couldn't do that when they get back to their facility.) They could have been more efficient. The tallying of the bill was performed at 4P. The crew leader- Alvin- told me that they started loading my things at the warehouse at 8A earlier that morning when he talked to me on the phone to alert me when he was on his way to the storage unit. However, when the bill was presented to me, he changed the time from 8A to 6A to add more hours onto the bill. Alvin's reasoning was that there was a warehouse crew who started working at 6 AM to bring my things down to the loading dock. And he and his men crew showed up at 8A only to load things into the truck. I confronted him and refused to sign the receipt, for it sounded fishy and dishonest to me. And right before that, he told me that I saved 2 hours from the estimated time since we finished in 8 hours. I asked to talk to the facility manager, he would not allow me to talk to anyone directly. He told me to call the office on Monday. Exchange of words took place in the parking lot. They all gave me their side of the story and left me in the cold, standing there after it was all said and done to wonder why I had chose them for service and how I could have prevented this matter from happening. The fact is- It is bad service. I did talk to Rich Perry eventually and told him of my dissatisfaction with his moving company. The biggest complaints are the cost and the dishonesty. It was exorbitant! It was far from the estimation. Be aware of the crew and their efficiency. read more

I loved Perry Moving. They were highly recommended by several realtors. Sam Perry gave me a thorough estimate and was on time and met at a time convenient to me. The estimate was reasonable. Recycled boxes were offered for free and plentiful... Even garment boxes! Daniel called and confirmed the schedule. Markie, Mark, and Ron handled my move. They were courteous, careful with my belongings, kept me informed, walked me through before and after to ensure they knew what was going and to ensure I was satisfied with the way things were handled. They also were friendly! My estimate actually was slightly higher than the actual final cost... So I paid less than expected. Despite being exhausted, I made sure I phoned Perry's office to tell them how completely satisfied I was with their service. I highly recommend them. read more

Excellent moving company! The estimator came on time and was very reasonable explaining packing procedures and costs etc. To be honest, He was more realistic, which I had not encountered by other estimators, however I liked this because he didn't sugar coat the procedure I.e. Trying to get within our budget and taking the time to explain to us how to prepare for the packing and moving. The packers arrived 20min early and were extremely professional, very knowledgable and had a great sense of humor which was ideal in our situation because they were packing our 4,000 sq ft home and it took them all day- they were great about it and did not rush any box being packed. They mark each box using a very detailed coding system, then mark the box, then initial each box, then write all that down on a spreadsheet! Basically your getting quadruple checked that your stuff is in that box and isn't going anywhere, plain and simple! These guys did a terrific job, did not leave any mess, they only use brand new supplies! Please make sure you ask for the guys when moving big or small move they are excellent !!!! read more

Perry's did a fantastic job with my move - I was very impressed from start to finish (and their price was just about in the middle of about 4-5 other companies I quoted). I found the administrative office very responsive and helpful when setting up the move, and Marc suggested the correct amount of movers and estimated the time fairly spot on. On the morning of my move I received a courtesy call from Perry's about 30 minutes prior to the truck arriving. Once there Allen, Felix, and Ryan worked nonstop for 5 straight hours carefully wrapping, loading, and ultimately unloading and arranging all of my furniture and belongings. They took great care with my floors in both homes (Allen even stopped short of placing anything in the new home on hardwoods until he placed small felt pads on the bottom of pieces), were very precise with asking where I wanted things placed, and were professional from start to finish. Absolutely nothing was damaged or dinged, which is saying something considering I had a very small and narrow landing that some fairy bulky furniture needed to compromise. I was very stressed leading up to the move but Perry's put me at complete ease. I would very highly recommend their services. read more

We were a little nervous hiring movers to pack up our 3 bedroom house as we've heard all the horror stories. We could not have been more pleased with the folks at Perry. From the estimator to the office folks to the four movers who came out they were all great. Everybody was friendly and ontime and talked us through each step in the process. We hired Perry's Moving based on their local connection in the Annapolis area. (June 19, 2014) David Lamb, in their main office, was our coordinator and did a marvelous job - calling us the day before the move to give us times of arrival and checking on the situation at the end of the day. The estimate we were given was right on target. The movers, Christopher and partner, were excellent, taking special care to move an antique cabinet valued highly in our family. The move involved two stops and travel on the notorious Washington D.C. Beltway. It was accomplished with dexterity and care at every stop - start to finish. Hiring professional movers is a serious decision! There are so many scams, thieves and careless moving companies in our local communities and countrywide. One of my family's move from another moving company were very horrendous and dangerous!! The moving company they hired were criminals, they stole precious and irreplaceable family heirlooms which were of very high value and sentimental as well. Good experience with Perry! Our move was to a storage unit since we are temporarily in limbo. The huge question was, of course, if all the belongings we were moving would fit in the 10X20 storage unit. In short, Al did a masterful job of getting everything in efficiently and safely. The 3-man crew did a good and courteous job throughout. The cost came in just $30 over estimate which was head-scratching since the $30 was for "mattress covers" or some such thing which it seemed to me the estimator could certainly have included. Still, I believe the move took just slightly longer than the estimated time, but they charged for only the estimated time, so it's all good :) We used Perry 4 years ago to move. We're glad we used them again. We plan to use them yet again when we're finally OUT of LIMBO!! LOL!! :) read more

I used Perry Movers this month. I signed a contract for an hourly rate of $165 plus charges for travel, fuel, mattress bags and insurance. The movers did a great job. However, when it was time to settle up they charged me $200 per hour. The move coordinator admitted she'd made a mistake but still insisted I pay the higher charge. I refused. The manager got on the phone, called me "stupid", told me I had "no common sense" and insisted I pay the $200/hr. I refused. Fortunately I used my credit card to pay for the move and had recourse. I only paid the originally agreed to amount. Don't use this company unless you want a huge hassle at an already stressful time. read more

It is nearly a year (AUG 1, 2015) since we had our unfortunate moving business conducted with Perry but we are still smarting. We had a free estimate by Sam Perry and while it seemed very expensive, we had a house full of furnishings so we opted to proceed. The settlement date on house we were buying was delayed and when I called to set a date, I was told they were just so busy-our estimated date of move was now not available. The packers came and did only the upstairs, and the next packing was not going to happen for a week-I knew I was in for trouble when I found they planned to store our things in a warehouse and then put a partial load in with another customer--and that is when the nightmares started. The partial load came up to CT from Md first so I had to come up and receive it and leave the next increment to my husband, who was very stressed and disoriented at it all. The packers did the first floor this time--did not record the contents and as they were all over the house, my husband did not realize they were not doing inventory sheets to give him. They then set up another date for basement and garage--holding the first floor items till all was packed. When I called I was seldom able to get through--messages were NOT answered in a timely fashion and even though I told the dispatcher I had packed all books, all dishes except daily use ones for one person-she insisted the packers had said we had so much they needed lots of boxes and paper-more cost of course. The boxes were half packed and reams of paper used on the stupidest items that did not need padding. On the other hand, lamp shades were crammed into boxes with other loose items-most were destroyed by this-many pieces of furniture had missing pulls, chips and pieces knocked off trims--I watched the men slide a big china closet out so roughly that the pulls popped off as they slid it out-when I pointed this out they made little effort to find the pieces which were now in the bed of the truck. Two "helpers" were hired from local work force and stacked several boxes at a time on a rolling cart ignoring where they were to go and putting kitchen, towels, anything --in the garage. Boxes were placed helter skelter against walls of living room, then chairs, tables and all sorts of furniture was stacked in the center so no one could even get into the room to move things out and unpack. I might add, each delivery was charged singly and the price went up from $9300 to well over $14000. After paying over for the first 2 loads, I refused to pay the extra charges on the last load so was "given a break" of splitting the bill with them--I could have used all this extra cost to replace the many damaged pieces and we are still missing some items-- Worst office communication I have ever had with a company--they ought to be ashamed to bilk us because they could not manage to choose correct size for loads, and made 3 trips up here instead of perhaps one--so gas, tolls and wages were fluffed up for a high and over charged price and even though it was their incompetence at fault, it was charged to us.. Do not use Perry if you are planning a long-distance move. I was impressed by everything they did before the move and on moving day. However, once their parent company, Stevens Van Lines got involved, my review turned negative. I moved from DC to WA. We sustained damage to a number of expensive pieces of furniture - broken sofa leg, broken arm on vintage chair, chips and broken pieces on expensive Italian lacquer cabinets, 4 broken lamps, and more. We have gone through numerous interstate and cross-country moves. Never have I met with such negative, negligent, obstructionist action when filing a claim for damaged furniture. Stevens denied responsibility unless damages were written on the delivery statement. They did not send anyone to assess the damage. They continued to deny responsibility, although we had purchased "full valuation/replacement" insurance with no deductible. We sustained significant damage to a number of valuable pieces. No one at Stevens would even engage, except by email in the form of denials. I called Rich Perry, who was very kind on the phone and offered to intervene on our behalf. It took many weeks, with no result. He obviously has no influence with Stevens, his parent company. My only choice was to pay $300 to file a dispute claim for arbitration. Our losses are already significant. I recommend that anyone steer clear of Perry unless you are engaging in a local move. My opinion of them has now soured. They are also responsible for the negligent behavior of their parent company. read more

I had an appointment for an estimator to come to my home to give a price on a move. When I made the appointment, I was asked what date was the move. It was a local move so I was flexible with the date but I had to give a date, so I said July 1st. Five hours before the appointment, I received a voicemail message from Heather stating she was cancelling my appointment because they no longer have July 1st available. She left her phone number so I could call her back to schedule an appointment for the next day (Saturday). I called her back within 5 minutes of receiving the message. She was not available but I left a detailed message with the person who answered the phone who stated that Heather just stepped away from her desk and will give her the message when she returns. No call back was received and she had all afternoon to call. This happened on a Friday and the office is closed for the weekend, so no call will be received on Saturday and I will not have a Saturday appointment as she offered offered. When I first made an appointment with this company, I was told they do not have weekend appointments. Apparently, this company does not want my business and I will let the word of mouth get out on my experience with this company. EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED how this company operates and treated a potential customer. read more

I called several moving companies before ultimately deciding to use Perry Movers. Perry's quote was pretty much on target with most respectable companies I called. I had also gotten a verbal recommendation from a neighbor who used them and was very pleased. So, I chose Perry Moving for a move from my townhouse to a single family home. The movers arrived on time and were friendly yet professional. To save a little money we chose for the movers to move only furniture, not boxes. They covered everything with moving blankets to keep the furniture protected. It was raining the day of our move and they put down a protective covering on our carpet to keep it clean. They were able to disassemble all of the furniture that needed it. They took minimal breaks for our 5 hour move and the final price came in at a little under our original estimate. I cant say enough great things about Perry's Moving and the owner Rich Perry. Our move from Maryland to Florida was somewhat complicated - I was initially nervous about using a smaller local business and had decided to use the big national carrier - at the last minute the big national company started to surprise me with" the price is not a guaranteed price, it could go higher, it all depends" terminology. The local agent and the customer service personnel from the big national company were evasive and would not commit to the quote nor the packing days etc. They were hard to contact and the move was days away. I called Perry's Moving - they put my mind at ease - gave me a firm quote, and in fact guaranteed it. They provided sensible packing/loading days estimates and sent a crew that were experienced, hard working and trustworthy. Our move was incredibly smooth, the drivers were on time, diligent and everything arrived without any damage.
