I had put a post on reddit asking for suggestions for movers in the area and Bookstore Movers was…read morerecommended by almost every person who responded. Patrick and his crew, Renaldo, Nitua, Gerand and Kevin, exceeded the already high expectations I had based upon the reviews. I will happily recommend Bookstore to family and friends and will never use another moving company. Their strength, kindness, commitment and pride in their job and the company, organization, efficiency as a crew (this was amazing to watch- they just flowed as a team of 5 and Patrick was an excellent leader!), was consitent and apparent throughout the entire time they spent with us. I really can't say enough good things about the experience and hope to work with them again when we hopefully buy a place and move in the next couple of years. The price was also incredibly fair, worth every penny for their first-rate and professional work and incredibly pleasant dispositions, just a really great group of guys!

I moved this past weekend and hired Bookstore Movers for the job. I can honestly say I was blown…read moreaway by the professionalism, efficiency, and expertise of the moving crew. I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

When I hire a service via Yelp, I usually create a draft to remember the company for future…read morereference and to leave a review later. Often, these drafts don't become reviews because the service was simply average--nothing noteworthy beyond the fact that the job was completed. However, I'm glad I saved JFP Express in my drafts because their service was excellent. I contacted three different companies through Yelp, but ultimately chose JFP Express because they were the only ones who provided an all-inclusive price with no hidden fees--unlike the other companies. I find it frustrating when businesses try to extract as much as they can from customers through various pretexts and dishonest practices. JFP Express, however, was honest and transparent from the start. Jason was very courteous and communicative, arranging everything seamlessly. When the team arrived, they were respectful, personable, and professional. The piano, along with everything else, was handled with the utmost care and attention. Even my husband, who is usually very reserved, was impressed with the team, especially Darius, who was exceptionally pleasant. We will definitely be using their services again. Thank you, and best of luck to your team! *‿*

They were flexible with us as we had to reschedule due to weather, and had several complicated moves that were handled very well. As with any move, we took care ourselves to wrap things, communicate our needs and expectations, but I would do that with any mover. Ask questions, clarify and explain what you want. All furniture was wrapped carefully with moving blankets and secured and all breakables were treated with care. I've never seen a team of people work so hard!

They backed their truck into my retaining wall, immediately pissing off my neighbors before a single box was moved. They then showed up with half the crew promised, which should have been my first clue about what was coming next. What should have been a straightforward move from a 3-bedroom home took 13 hours, and they still couldn't finish--forcing them to come back the next morning, while I was under extreme pressure due to a pending home sale. With 18 hours to be out of my house, Zip used the situation to triple the price, leaving me completely cornered. At one point, the police showed up at my door to question one of the movers for 30 minutes. Later, they left a single worker alone for SIX HOURS to finish the job. Completely unprofessional and unsafe. Once my belongings were picked up, I received zero updates for six weeks. No proactive communication. No tracking. No accountability. I had to escalate through three different people just to get basic help or information. And when all was said and done, Zip did absolutely nothing to make it right--no refund, no meaningful apology, no remediation--other than claiming they fired the person who originally quoted me, which does nothing for the damage, stress, or financial harm they caused. This was easily one of the most stressful and mishandled service experiences I've ever had, at a time when reliability mattered most. If you value transparency, professionalism, or basic human decency during a move--look elsewhere.

Von Paris Moving & Storage

Having moved 9 times over the past 40 years, my wife and I have considerable experience with movers…read moreand moving companies. I found the staff / office members at Von Paris who I spoke to be mostly responsive and professional. I had numerous interactions with them, because the crew members who actually packed and moved us were lousy. All nice folks, but the crew members who performed the packing, loading and moving did so with far less care and proficiency than ANY of our prior 8 movers. The worst we've had out of 9 different moving crews. Maybe Von Paris has better teams of movers. In my experience, the performance of the crew chief determines how well the crew performs. For our 3 day move the crew chief's role seemed to be limited to delivering and picking up trucks --- we barely saw or spoke with him and never saw him provide any supervision. Absent on-site leadership for 3 days, the crew members worked at a slow pace, with little urgency. Long lunches --- that we brought in for them on 3 separate days. Packing of our household items was very random and inconsistent --- lots of paper wrapped around items that were not fragile; while a number of fragile items were poorly protected, some even placed at the bottom of boxes. While the randomly poor packing suggests a possible lack of training, it seems more likely a lack of caring. Von Paris did honor our claim to repair or replace 7 items we submitted as damaged. Meanwhile, our contract required us to submit our total damages within 2 weeks ---- and we only learned of other damaged items after that point. Most significantly and important to be aware of --- I brought to management's attention a major fabrication in the bill of laden. At the end of the move I was provided a "moving contract" to sign ....that had NO entries for the number of containers that were packed. All were empty. A few days later I asked Von Paris to explain how they determined the number of size of the boxes/containers they had packed and for which I was billed. They sent me a copy of the "moving contract" I had signed after delivery ---- but with numbers for the boxes/containers entered where none had been entered when I was asked to sign. Why does this matter? They billed me to pack the very same number of boxes / containers they had used for their original estimate. Meanwhile, to reduce that cost my wife and I spent a month packing and moving MANY boxes, knowing that by doing so we would reduce the number of boxes we would pay Von Paris to pack. Despite that, Von Paris fabricated the number of boxes they packed, later entered those numbers on a contract I had already signed, and then billed me for more containers and packing than they performed. In bringing this to Von Paris's attention I received a modest admission this was a departure from their procedure, but there was no acceptance of the vastly lower number of boxes I counted them as having packed. Instead, they represented they "uncovered the actual number" of boxes they packed - lower than the fabricated number they billed me for - but appreciably higher than what I counted. I was billed for their new number. Being so grateful to no longer have to deal with this company, I resigned myself to move on, while also committing myself to sharing this experience for others to be aware of. Long story short: you are not hiring the people who are running Von Paris, but the crew members they send to actually pack and move your stuff. If you hire Von Paris as a moving company, I wish you better luck than we had with the crew that packed and moved our stuff.

I can't say enough about the Abingdon, MD. location of Von Paris Moving & Storage Company. The…read moreestimator was extremely accommodating and professional. Mark McMahan, a 5th generation family member came to my house and did a very thorough walk-through. I'm not sure how, but he was able to closely estimate the manpower and time it would take to move all that I pointed out and told him I was taking to my new place. On moving day 5 polite and professional men arrived at my house right on time. They worked well as a team and seemed to know exactly what each of them would get to work on, ie: one guy put together all the special hanging clothes storage boxes, one started to break down beds etc. They began at 8:30am sharp and I believe they did not finish until about 5:30pm taking only 2 brief 10 min. breaks. When we arrived at the new place, I noticed they took each hanging clothes box to the specific closets which I designated but did not open each box and actually hang the clothes. When I mentioned that I thought the estimator, Mark had said they hang clothes in the closets, they began to open all the special boxes and hang my clothes. I was curious and asked one of the guys what they normally do and he said they are only required to leave the boxes in the correct closets. Without saying a word, these guys began opening all boxes and actually hanging the clothes in closets. When I realized that was not what they ordinarily do and told them it wasn't necessary and that I'm sure I misunderstood the estimator, they were quick to say "we can do it, we can do it, no problem at all" it was obvious this crew went the extra mile! They were a pleasure to deal with, in fact so much that I felt compelled to write my 1st review EVER on Yelp!! I signed a contract stating the possibility of it taking longer than the estimated time and was quite pleased that the estimate was right on.

The day of the move, the movers showed up early but it worked out. David A. and crew got the job DONE!!! They were about their business taking great care with packing and securing my property. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I had already packed my master bedroom and later completed the kitchen/dining room. Therefore, they completed the remaining three (3) levels and did a FANTASTIC job. I've never experience such experts with great customer service. The last movers I hired, dropped a case of Cooperhawks Wine and never replaced it. I would highly recommend this company, if you are looking for quality service. The pleasant surprise was that since I had packed some of my rooms, the quote went down because the Time & Material was less. Once from Indiana to Baltimore City, and the second from Baltimore City to Michigan. The first time I moved with them, the moving coordinator I worked with was very communicative, checked in with me throughout the moving process (including when my items were being picked up), and was conscious of my anxiety levels. The second time I moved, I needed to contact Stephanie to remind her of upcoming deadlines, follow up with her when she said that she would get back to me and failed to do so, and was also unprofessional at times, uttering profanities like "retarded" in reference to the move itself when on the phone with her. What's more is that one of my inventory items never even arrived to me. They launched an audit to find the lost items but came back empty, so I guess one of their workers just walked off with it. The pay out on the audit also was less than half of what the items were valued at. Some of the items that were lost can't be replaced. Like how does something just walk off? You're a moving company that specializes in moving things, and you're one of the most expensive brands in the market with guaranteed service. On a positive note, the people who picked and dropped off my belongings were very professional, on time, and handled everything like glass. Don't think I'll work with Perry again.
