The concept of having someone drive 1000+ miles, to move all your belongings for you, is one of the greatest things I could ask for. I had a Studio/1br apartment size worth of stuff to move from DC to south Florida. I'll be honest, when they came to drop off the relocube, I was worried that my stuff would not fit. But the cube does hold a lot more that you think -- if you know how to pack properly. Drop off and pick up were both super easy. The dispatch centers are very responsive and pleasant to talk to. Their travel time estimation was pretty accurate. My belongings arrived as I packed it, some had damage which was entirely MY fault -- I should have wrapped absolutely everything. Long story short, great service, great company to work with, fast/quick responses, and affordable (in my opinion). The cost of this was less than half what it would've cost me to move that far with a full service moving company (they pack the truck and drive for you) and half the cost of PODS although I believe the PODS company has different size cubes. read more

I used U-Pack's door to door service and let me just say this company has lovely people working for it. Truly some of the nicest individuals delivered and picked up my container. I moved over 1200 miles and my container made it to its final destination in under a week even with the Memorial Day holiday. The service was a little pricey at about $1900 but I don't regret choosing U-Pack. I also wish I was able to get my items a little earlier, they sat at the storage facility for a week because they didn't have someone to deliver them until Friday. In my first experience moving to a different state by myself, UPack has made it very smooth and convenient. As a military member, there were a lot of paperwork that I had to provide and UPack was very knowledgeable in what they had to provide for me. First, the scheduling was very smooth and the coordinator over the phone was very friendly. The checklist they provided was easy to follow. Second, when the cube came to my place, I was initially surprised at how small it was, but it turned out to be a good size for a one studio/bedroom. The only thing that you really need to provide for yourself are the boxes, bungee cords to hold the furniture/boxes in place, and paddings (which was not expensive at all in my case). Third, UPack scheduled and dropped off my cube at the most convenient time for me. Overall, for its price, the service was very streamlined and communication was awesome. read more

If you are a do it yourself kind of person U pack may be right for you. I hired them to move my belongings and it was an easy process to schedule cubes for drop off. They only provide the cubes and transport them to you location. I used two 8x8 cubes and didn't completely fill them. They are limited by where you can safely leave them. If you live in an apartment complex it's best to check with your leasing office for that. Also see how long you can leave them on the property. Some places like my complex will only allow them to stay one night. U Pack will give you a couple of days to load and unload so you can take your time to load and unload. I chose to hire a company to load and unload for me. With that it was still less expensive than hiring a mining company to do all of the work for me. They are prompt and will keep you informed every step of the way. You can track your cubes online and even get a specific drop off time if you so desire. You have to be there for drop offs so you can't sign the paperwork and tell the driver where to place the cubes. None of my items got damaged during transit. One you are done loading or unloading you can schedule your pickup. You don't need to be present for the pickup either. Overall it was an easy experience and I would use them again. A reasonable alternative to a full service moving company. read more

Nothing but good things to say about our experience with the East Coast side of the pod experience! Booking online was super easy, scheduling the drop off and pick up was seamless. The delivery man who dropped it off was so helpful and friendly, even gave us tips on how to pack it. If you live in DC, dont forget to get your public space permit ahead of time! 72 hours minimum notice for your neighbors. Luckily we didnt have any problems, but i recommend scheduling your pod drop off for later in the day so you can get cars towed if necessary. For low key, long distance moves, i would 10/10 recommend this service in the DMV area! read more

We moved from DC to NOLA and it was a breeze. Booking was extremely easy, and every human we dealt with was a joy. We moved from an apartment building in downtown DC and, although we reserved parking, DC declined to enforce it. Our U-Pack driver showed up on time and was incredibly cheerful and accommodating as we had to coordinate moving various cars on a busy street over around 30 minutes in order that he could park the truck. The small snafu (apparently the contractor didn't realize it was a sameday pickup) was quickly resolved with U-Pack communicating and a driver came back that evening. And the driver! What a lovely human. Our movers had done a fairly disastrous job packing the truck, and he helped us fix it, waited around for us to pack up the final things our movers hadn't bothered to pack, and then helped us load and close up the truck again. Definitely not in his job description, especially since he had just picked up this trip on his way home, but incredibly kind and appreciated after a somewhat harrowing moving day! They delivered on time to our guaranteed moving date and, even though the destination facility phones were down, made sure that they communicated our pickup preferences (movers coming the morning after delivery) via email that I was copied on. I moved from San Francisco to Washington DC in May for graduate school. Rather than be gouged by uHaul's bidding $$$$ to move a one bedroom apartment, I tried U-Pack. For $1350 I was able to include all my boxes and furniture to make the long trek across the country. Bear in mind, I did not have sofa and some furniture was in boxes to be built but we were still left with some space when loading the unit. It seems smaller than it is, but it is also sufficient for smaller moves -- eg. studios, single person. I opted to load the unit in the San Jose ABF location (it is a bit more expensive if they bring the unit to you, but the option is available) and unload in Maryland. The personnel were accommodating in both locations and it was such a good experience. The only "cons" and they aren't really cons, just FYIs: - required to bring your own lock and the system itself is not the most secure -- that said, everything stays on the ABF property so I do not think they have a big issue with theft (or attempted theft) - the unit is moved on a forklift so there will be minor shaking and shifting even with the most cautious driver -- secure your goods! We did a bush league job of that but none of my items were damaged! - only open on the week days (long hours, but not available to retrieve on weekends) - you have to load 2wks out from your arrival (I loaded May 1st for a May 15th unload across the county) I would/will use this service again. Especially if I want to load or unload on-site and know I can store at an ABF facility. This company knows what they are doing and has a solid product. read more

TLDR version: Amazing experience with excellent customer service, super transparent pricing, flexibility on timing and location of pick-up/drop-off, and the timing was impeccable. Things to keep in mind: no drop-offs or pick-ups on Saturdays and Sundays, you have to let them know the day before to confirm delivery or pick-up the next day so make sure if you need parking permits that you coordinate appropriately, bring your own locks to lock both doors, and that's it! Super easy. This was the easiest move process I've had to date and it was cross-country (DC to Denver). We used the Relo-Cube which we were able to book months in advance to lock in a lower rate (cancel at any time before the drop off with no fee), the booking itself was done with an awesome booking agent who advised us to order two cubes upfront and we'd only pay for what we use as long as they drop off and pick up at the same time. That took all of the guessing out of it and we knew exactly how much it would cost for either scenario and when we ended up only using one that's all we were charged for. After the booking and leading up to the drop-off (where we were moving from) everything was recommunicated via email (and text if you want it) with links to check the status. When it came time to drop the relocubes off, the communication was excellent and they had no problem delivering both cubes into downtown DC where even parking is hard to find. We supplied our own locks which gave me comfort on the security of our belongings and the deliverer even gave us some tips on how to pack (high and tight!). I called back just a few hours later to have the pick-up scheduled for the next day (they don't do drop-offs or pick-ups on the weekend) and then our container was on it's way to Denver. It was picked up on Feb 12th in DC and dropped off at our new place on Feb. 24th (we could have even had it delivered a day earlier) which is so impressive. I've had friends use other services that take months! For the drop off, they were able to give me the trailer number our container was on so I could call the driver and ask for an estimated drop-off time, then I received a text message that it was close, and a call when they were closer. My husband and I were relocated with our job, with very short notice, from Germantown, MD to the Atlanta area. We found U-Pack online based on good reviews as well as a price comparison to other methods of moving (pack yourself cubes/pods). When you're planning the move, it feels like a lot of coordination, there's the main hub when the truck arrives and you have to be there and then there's the new location hub and pickup of the truck and scheduling the movers...it's a bit overwhelming. With that said, I cannot think of a more calculated, perfect experience. We hired movers on both sides to help us load and unload the truck and wow was that the best decision we ever made! The movers on both the loading and unloading side were professional and hard working. Those guys hustled and never complained and they did a great job loading/organizing the truck. We could not have packed it that well, we would have used the whole truck with our lack of planning! If you're considering a move, you need to work with this company. I absolutely love U-Pack. I've used them twice for two separate interstate moves and they are first-rate. The staff is well-trained, friendly, reliable and highly skilled. The shipping containers are well-built, clean and have dozens of holes to hook bungee cords to secure belongings so that they don't shift or break during the move. During my last move I actually paid more to work with U-Pack even though the move wasn't over 50 miles because I like how professional they are. First let me say the pod system is handy. DO NOT USE FOR CROSS COUNTRY MOVE WHERE YOU HIRE LOSERS I MEAN LOADERS TO PACK YOUR POD. I read several reviews of how other people packed the pod themselves and had substantial damage. I hired a moving company, bonded and insured, to pack my pod. They packed it poorly and I received approx $1000 in damage. Then I spent 4 mo that going back and forth with them while they tried to pass blame on the pod and the transporter. I. The end I was offered a measly $298 for my damage. Did I get the full coverage insurance? No, but I wish either I had the money to do that or I had just gone with a reputable trucking company to load, drive and unload my stuff. The money savings sounds tempting until you have to replace your damaged items on the other end. Then you haven't saved any money at all. read more

Reasonable priced. We rented 2 trailers for a 5k sqft home cross country move. Trailers hold a large amount of items, more than we expected. Pay attention to all details shared by the driver who drops off the trailer. For the initial bill, the billing department charged us for more feet than we used which led to a dispute in charges. This caused a 2 days delay in the delivery of our trailers to our home. (You have to pay your bill before they will deliver your trailer(s) to the destination site.) The issue was quickly resolved on the receiving end of the move once the yard master opened both trailers to verify the actual footage of use but it created a challenge for us to reschedule our paid unloaders. Even with the billing glitches, I would use UPack for future moves. I've moved at least 10 times in my adult life and I found this to be an economical alternative to renting a one-way truck or trucks in our case. read more

Customer service has been great, including the gentlemen who came to drop off and pick up relo cube. Reason for 4 stars, not 5 is because they were not helpful when I learned my street (I live in an urban setting) will only allow pods to sit out for 48 hours. U pack DOES not operate on the weekends which I did not realize in planning my move. After some digging online, I learned that the local company coming to pick up the relo cube will work with your time constraints. They were super understanding, accommodating and helped me work out my plan perfectly. I wish the u pack customer service was more helpful about this- would've saved me time & stress. I used a ReloCube from ABF to move from Washington, DC to Seattle in the summer of 2010 and couldn't have been more pleased with my experience. The price for a cross-country move and two months of storage in Seattle was competitive with other comparable services. The office staff was extremely courteous and helpful, answering all my questions. Billing was timely and there were no hidden fees - all very straightforward. Best of all, the ReloCube was delivered punctually both in DC and in Seattle. In DC, the delivery guy actually arrived a few minutes BEFORE my scheduled time window and waited for me at my building. In Seattle, my loaded ReloCube was dropped off right in the middle of my delivery period (morning) and picked up a few hours later, only an hour or so after I called to say I was finished unloading it. All my stuff arrived in good shape, the only damage being some heat stress on a couple of my old Rubbermaid containers - probably from being trucked across the country in June! I will specify that things were well packaged, and we used professionals to load the Cube, who were careful to wedge everything in tightly so it wouldn't shift during transport. This no doubt helped ensure that my furniture and boxed belongings made it to Seattle intact. The cube was just the right size to fit my full-length couch on its end, with lots of space leftover for boxes (at 7'8'' long, my couch fit in a ReloCube with just a few inches of clearance - it would have been too big for a Door-To-Door cube! Don't forget to measure your furniture if you're going the ReloCube/PODS/box route!!). I ended up leaving my double bed in DC, after realizing it wouldn't fit in the ReloCube with my couch, a number of boxes, and some collapsed furniture in there. It would be tough to fit a full-size couch and a bed larger than a twin into one ReloCube, so if you're moving anything more substantial, you might consider ABF's U-Pack freight service (or double up on ReloCubes, but that might cost more). The whole move was so easy and stress-free, I couldn't believe it when all my stuff was sitting in my place in Seattle looking like it never moved. I'd use ABF for another major move in a heartbeat. read more

Well, this is the first time my items weren't broken during a move! We had a complicated move with many moving parts. My college kid went to VT from MD with one cube. And, four other cubes went to Puerto Rico for the rest of the family. It was a little pricey, but hey our house literally traveled across the ocean and did so in 12-14 days as stated! We had a great experience with U-Pack on our move from DC to the west coast. We used U-Pack to ship our stuff and a different moving company to pack. They were able to accommodate us with only 3 days notice after we canceled our other moving company (Long Distance Relocation Services) at the last minute after reading many horrible reviews about them. U-Pack had great communication and was MUCH cheaper than anyone else we looked at for a cross-country move. Our stuff arrived safely out west in a reasonable time frame. They didn't require a deposit, and we were not required to pay until our stuff arrived safely out west. We could check the status of our stuff on our phones while it was in transit. MUCH less sketchy than other movers in this price range. I will definitely use these guys again the next time I move. read more

As with scheduling a move - big or small - it can and usually is very stressful and what can, does go wrong. Well, when my wife and I made this decision to relocate and move 600 miles away, we looked and discussed all our options. Fortunately, others had done the same and wrote to let others know all about their respective experience. Now, I will do the same... This is the way to go! Rather than pack and load a moving truck and drive it yourself, pack and load a relocube (or two or three) and have ABF drive it for you. The cost may be more expensive for the relocube itself, but when you factor the cost of gas, headaches, and stress of driving a truck yourself, well, there is no reason to not go with ABF. For example, we looked at doing it ourselves, with cost of truck and gas, the cost estimate was around $900. When all was said and done - the final cost for two relocubes with distance, etc., was $1084. That cost included an extra fee for the relocubes to be delivered at a specific one-hour window. This is the way to go! The representative - John - on the phone who handled my initial call and booked the job was very polite, answered all my questions, and was not pushing me to make a decision, like so many others I called. Moreover, the driver who delivered the relocubes was very courteous and also, very nice. Needless to say, do yourself a favor and pass on some stress to the professionals and do your best to enjoy your move. You will be happy you did...! read more

If I could give a negative I would.. My husband and I moved from Silver Spring, MD to Alpharetta, GA. After calling several other moving businesses U-Pack was the cheapest so we went with them. In this case, cheaper does not been better. We asked for the trailer and this huge trailer was left in front of my door from Old Dominion. They subcontract their trailers with Old Dominion.. We hired professional movers to pack and load the truck for it. We had a delay in closing on our house in Alpharetta so we asked if we can keep the things in the truck for a few weeks. They said fine and charged us $500 extra to keep it which was fine with us. When we finally closed and was ready to have our truck delivered that was another nightmare. We were out of town and asked for the trailer to be delivered between 3:00-6:00pm so that someone will be there to get it. They tried to deliver it at 10:30am and called me. I called the driver back and he said "I left the trailer somewhere in Alpharetta and another driver with get it and deliver it to you before 6:00". After being on the phone for an hour with Old Dominion and U-Pack we finally found my trailer and it was delivered past 6:00. The people I spoke to at Old Dominion were rude and unhelpful. Once we unpacked everything we discovered that our 52in Sony LCD TV was ruined. It was not cracked or anything, it has a few spots on it. We plugged it in and the screen was completely messed up. We had someone come take a look at it because this TV costs us $2,000 we did not want to just trash it. He said was ruined due to heat. We have another 48in Plasma TV that did not get ruined. We asked the guy who looked at the Sony why the other one did not get ruined. He said LCD TV's are more sustainable to heat then Plasma TVs. I called U-Pack and they said the trailer was outside for 3 weeks (in the sun in August). I told them I wanted to submit a claim for the TV. I submitted it and they denied it because the contract does not say anything about "heat requirements". He also stated that I should not have put my TV in the trailer. One of the main reasons why we got the trailer was to move this TV. I am not sure how else he would expect us to move this huge TV. All in all this was the worst company that I have dealt with. They were completely rude to me and made the already stressful event of moving even more stressful. I used UHaul and Pods in the past when I moved and was very happy with their service. When I loaded my relo cube I didn't know where it was being shipped (I choosing between job offers that would take me to different parts of the country). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY- I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY ITEMS I had my items shipped from Maryland to Georgia. The experience started out great but has become a nightmare. They did not deliver my items as promised it took them 7 days vs. 2-4. I called several times. I called once and spoke to Jarrod and he begin to laugh while I was telling him my story. I called the -800 number and was given a credit of only $100.00. They wanted to come on a Friday and leave this 28ft trailer outside of my house over the weekend. I told them this was unacceptable. They gave me a window of 9-1 on Monday. They waited until 1pm on Monday to bring my things. I am so pissed with this company. I will never use them again and I will make sure all of social media knows that they suck. read more
