Tip: Sign up for Perkins rewards for discounts on food and more. Two Saturdays ago, I was in the area and noticed this Perkins across the street. I don't frequent Pickering as much as I used to. It was new to me. I flagged checking it out in my head. Last Saturday, I dropped by for a late lunch after completing my errands. My first visit at a Perkins restaurant was in Winnipeg. I loved going there after a midnight shift to get pancakes and more. Sadly, Winnipeg doesn't have any Perkins eateries left. When I lived in the States, there was one Perkins in Rochester, MN. It's still there. I'm so glad. As a resident, I went there for a team lunch and when I was peckish for some breakfast. This eatery is in a plaza. It's next to Shawarma Royale and across from Dairy Queen, which are also new to me. I parked steps away from the entrance. It's wasn't all that busy at 2:30 pm on a Saturday. I walked in. I saw the sign to wait to be seated. I did while taking photos. It didn't take long for a nice woman to come over. She brought me to a booth. I thanked her. This woman wasn't my server, but did get me a Diet Coke. It was a bit off in flavour. I'm not sure if it was the ratio of syrup to carbonated water, or maybe the water. My refill was much better and the carbonation was great. Patricia would end up being my server. She came over and asked if I was ready to order. I was! I got these items: - French toast with scrambled eggs and sausage links - Diet Coke She came over to bring a warm bottle of maple syrup. It was a nice touch. My food didn't take long to arrive. It looked yummy. I thanked her and went to town. The French toast slices were excellent. They had a bit of powdered sugar on top. Not a lot. Just the right amount. I slathered on some butter on each slice and then poured the warm maple syrup on top. Delicious! They were crispy and chewy where they should be. The sausage links were nicely browned and had some nice crispness. Yummy! I liked my scrambled eggs. Perfect! No complaints here. The only downside was that my server didn't really check on me, except for the Diet Coke refill when I was practically done with my meal. She checked on everyone else, which was a bit odd. When I got my drink refill, she gave me my bill. What if I wanted a slice of chocolate french silk pie? You didn't ask. You simply presumed that I was done. I signed up for Perkins rewards. I have some perks that are waiting or me to use. Although Perkins is American, I've noticed that this eatery wants to tell you that it's Canadian-owned. The ketchup in French's, which is Canadian. There's also a huge Canadian flag when you enter this restaurant. I paid at the table. My server gave me the payment machine. I paid with a credit card by tipping and tapping. Done! I used the washroom before I headed home. The washrooms are by the entrance. The women's washroom was clean. The stall that I used was also clean and decent. It's a good Perkins. I'd return for more good eats. I hope that someone checks up on me as much as the other customers in the eatery. (409) read more

I dropped in at Perkins in Pickering for some breakfast after a nearby appointment. They have a pretty good deal that includes bacon, sausage, eggs, and pancakes for only 8.95. It's a pretty good value for the money. I do have to mention that their web site sucks. You can't access the Canadian menus. Despite listing five Canadian locations, when clicking on "View Menu", a message pops up stating "No restaurants matching that store reference". It's been like that for years. read more

Came here for brunch with my family and it's not bad if you want some all day breakfast food. I also like that there is 55 and over menu for the seniors and of course a kid menu. They also have specials during the week so check it out. Our waitress was very nice as well! read more

Food: ordered the chicken biscuits breakfast and the eggs Benedict breakfast. The chicken biscuits were two chicken and biscuit sandwiches w/ cheese, gravy and more cheese. I'm pretty sure all of it came out of a bag and was reheated, but it was decent tasting and filling. So filling that I could only eat one and finish the whole other breakfast it came with: 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon and hash browns. As for the eggs benny, it came w/ 2 eggs, and 2 thick slices of ham and hash browns. Also very filling. So filling that we had to get the pies to go. The pies are what Perkins is known for. The chocolate silk pie is their signature, but it's sweet enough that you don't need to add sugar to your coffee. The caramel apple pie is as good as it sounds. Service: friendly and efficient. Ambiance: clean and quiet. Good place for conversation. Price: the price is reasonable considering how much food you get and in comparison to what you get at similar restaurants. 3 stars plus 1 star for the pies. read more

Literally, the worst restaurant I have ever been in. There was nothing good about this place. The food was awful, dry and disgusting. The portions were so small that the plate was 3/4 empty. The service was unbelievably slow and the server was unbelievably rude. Expensive is not a word I can use for this place. It would be cheaper to eat at The Keg than it would to have two eggs and two sausages at Perkins. Asking for the manager does not help, because the manager is never in the restaurant. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he was not there at 4:00 p.m. I called three different times, on three different days, during three different meal periods and each time I asked for the manager and was told he was not there. Complaining to Head Office is not possible. If you try and send an online complaint, the system does not allow you to do that, because you need to enter five digit ZIP code and in Canada we only have six digit postal codes. If you try and call Perkins to make a complaint, they don't have a toll free number, only a local U.S. number, that is only accessible from Canada if you are willing to pay long distance charges. The service was so bad that I went and bought a calling card to be able to call the United States. I finally was able to get a hold of someone at Perkins and they took my complaint and promised that someone would call me back within 48 hours. Guess what? It's been 7 days and nobody's called. I guess they take customer service very seriously at Perkins. I guarantee, that if someone made a complaint of this magnitude, about Perkins, in the United States, the manager of that restaurant would have been fired, but here Canadians are taken for granted and we are treated like garbage by these American corporations. If you are thinking about going to Perkins, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else, even McDonald's would be better. read more

A bit disappointed. Tried something new from their menu today because I wanted something fruity. Ordered the Strawberry Croissant French Toast Platter. Service was good but I was so turned off because the menu clearly states "sweet glazed STRAWBERRIES" and all I got was strawberry jam. How are you going to advertise something "new" and not live up to it? Taste was okay. It was like an adult toaster strudel.. Spoke to the server and she said it doesn't come with strawberries. She then said she can get us the menu if we wanted something else.. she also mentioned that a lot of customers have been complaining.. she was very defensive and kept interrupting us when all we wanted to say was that the menus clearly stated and showed a picture of strawberries on the French toast. Also, if there weren't any strawberries and you've been receiving many complaints about that dish then why didn't you mention to us that there are no strawberries ? read more

Visited during the COVID-19 pandemic. They took my contact information at the door, which I appreciate. Great job at social distancing by placing customers at alternating tables. All staff wore masks. Service was prompt and friendly. Burgers (BBQ burger and the Breakfast Burger) and onion rings were well done. I think they cut and batter their own onions in house. Very fresh and tasty! Soup was disappointing. Just not well seasoned and not very hot. Pie was also a let down. Good flavour on the filling but the pie had a soggy bottom crust, which is an indicator of poor quality. Would return for lunch items only. read more

A nice establishment, when we entered we were quickly seated in a big booth, and given menus. Our drinks were ordered in under five minutes, and the relax environment was pleasant with chatter and radio music. The decor is a little underwhelming and bland for my taste, it's a bit like an old old restaurant. Our group didn't really appreciate a staff member, Tony, for talking right above our heads loudly to another staff member about tables and yelling across the restaurant, it was a bit uncomfortable. We had ordered our meals and it took a little while for a slice of lemon meringue pie and strawberry cream cheese crispers, even with a half full restaurant. If you're interested in a moist lemon merengue pie, I would recommend going to this establishment. The pie seemed like it was sprayed with water or something before coming out to the customer, even when we saw it at the front on display. It isn't as satisfying as ones that are store bought, or has a good jello-like consistency. Additionally, the crust is hard, and when you finally break into it it flakes everywhere. The crispers were below par, having the cream cheese melted and causing the flaky pastry to be soggy. Overall a mediocre experience and I'd come again maybe for a different meal and hopefully a different experience. read more

3.1415.....pie pie pie!!! Who cannot love a nice slice of pie. After a delicious dinner my friend suggested to come to this place to order pie. He mentioned that they make them fresh every day with a wide selection. The restaurant certainly didn't disappoint, there were 8 different types. I ordered the caramel Apple pie to go. Not to mention they are a breakfast and brunch restaurant. My friend has been here for brunch and only had great things to say about it. After waiting ages for our food, it all came out wrong. They substituted chicken biscuits for sausage biscuits without asking on my order and shorted my husband's order by an egg and 2 bacon strips. You never do a substitution without asking! Shorting an order is unacceptable as well. Doubtful we will ever return. read more

I absolutely would not come back here. The food is mediocre at best and definitely not worth the price. We mulled over the menu for quite a while and finally opted for French toast and a magnificent seven. The pancakes that came with the magnificent seven were tasteless and dry. My first instinct was to add more maple syrup but it wasn't much better. It almost tasted as though it had been watered down. To top it all off, the eggs were undercooked. The ONLY reason why this is getting more than a 1-star is because the waitresses where really pleasant, quick and efficient. It's so disappointing to go out for a meal only to end up paying for something I could have made better myself. read more

Pros: Great food at a fair price, they often run coupon promotions if you sign up for emails, pies are awesome, muffins are great, always a positive customer service experience. Cons: I've ordered them only twice but in those 2 times, the pancakes, while cooked to the consistency that I like, are on the salty side (though my husband disagreed and didn't find them salty at all). Perkins is one of our trusty spots where we know we'll enjoy our meal. Our family returns frequently; I would certainly recommend. read more

Tried Perkins for the first time after receiving some coupons in the mail. This is the "build your own breakfast" which includes 2 eggs, 2 pieces of meat, potatoes, and pancakes. You can choose how you'd like your eggs done, which meat you prefer, the style of potatoes, and the side if you want something other than pancakes. The cost for this is $12.85. The food is mediocre. It's very similar to Golden Griddle back in the days; not awful but nothing you would seek out. My daughter had a slice of chocolate pie and it was far too sweet so we left it behind. For the price, it's fair especially if you use a coupon (they often email them out if you sign up). The restaurant is very clean, including the bathrooms, the service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. I think it's a great choice for those that prefer more bland food such as picky kids etc. Overall, it wasn't horrible but it's a one and done for us. read more

Boo...I hate that a Perkins opened in Pickering and is so disappointing. If I'm ever near the airport, Perkins is on my list of places to eat. So to my delight, having one 10 minutes away makes Saturday morning brunch an easy choice, or so I thought. My experience was dull at best. Super slow service. Hash browns were undercooked. Bacon was cold. Table was sticky. On and on and on. Bummer, indeed. I'll likely go back for a second try. Hopefully a better experience awaits. read more

Wow, I love Perkins! I've been to this building in its many previous incarnations (Tucker's Marketplace, Chinese buffet) but this one has got to be my favourite. I have come here a couple of times now, and plan on coming back regularly for breakfast. It's a big space, and it's usually busy when I've come for breakfast on the weekend. The booth seats are kind of uncomfortable, but that's pretty much the only negative comment that I have. When you order coffee, you get a whole pot at the table which is great for refills. I like getting the build-a-breakfast for $10.95, it's huge and a great deal! I usually get eggs, bacon, tater tots (soooo yum) and pancakes that actually taste light and fluffy. You also get your choice of three syrups. I want to try their cinnamon roll French toast next time...it sounds amazing! On my visits, the manager was very active in the restaurant and came by to make sure we were having a great visit. He asked how we heard about them, and thanked us for our business. You can sense that he truly does care about his patrons. When you're done, they have some fresh baked pies and muffins to bring home too. My family and I decided to try this place out for breakfast. We came in just before 8am on a Saturday morning and it was pretty dead inside. We were kindly greeted by a waitress as soon as entering and then quickly seated. Our booth was very roomy with a large table and brown leather banquets. After taking our drink orders she gave us time to flip through the menus. I love that they offer all day breakfast here as well as fresh baked goods and pies. I particularly had my eye on the peanut butter silk cream pie but let's get through breakfast first. Our waitress came back with our drinks and took our orders. Hubby ordered a coffee and they brought over a small carafe filled with coffee which I found to be a nice touch as you always had a hot refill waiting for you. I ordered a tea which also came with a small carafe of hot water and a tea bag on the side. However they serve Red Rose tea here which is one of my least favourite brands of tea... Our food was ready in a short amount of time and we were ready to dig in. By this time the restaurant was starting to fill up so we were happy we just beat the rush of patrons coming in. I decided to order the build a breakfast which comes with 2 eggs, choice of meat, choice of potatoes, and choice of bread item. I got scrambled eggs which were cooked simply and perfect, two slices of crispy turkey bacon, crispy hash browns which I loveddd - they are more like shredded potatoes that are browned on one side to get a nice crunchy golden brown crust and finally 3 buttermilk pancakes topped with a pat of butter. The pancakes were Soooo good!! Definitely the best part of my meal!! Thick, fluffy, buttery, and slightly sweetened. The pancakes come with a caddy of 3 different syrups to try but my favourite one was the berry flavoured one. Hubby got the Triple Egg Dare ya which comes with 3 eggs, 3 slices applewood bacon, 3 sausage links, 2 buttermilk pancakes, 2 slices of french toast and crispy hash browns. He also really enjoyed his meal but his favourite part was the French Toast. Thick slices of sweet brioche bread perfectly cooked with a light dusting of powdered sugar and a pat of butter it was also heavenly! Portions here were hugeee and we both could only tackle about half of our meals. We waited for a our waitress to return to ask to get it packed to go. Unfortunately our waitress took forever to return. I understand that restaurant was starting to get full at that time but she could of at least come back to check up on us. After finally getting her to get the takeout containers we needed another container and a bag for it all and again she went MIA. We flagged another waitress this time who kindly got us what we needed very quickly. Finally we waited on our waitress for a 3rd time because I still had my eye on getting a slice of that pie. When our waitress finally made a return she came to put the bill on the table without us even requesting it. I asked to order a slice of the pie and she graciously went to go check for me. Sadly the peanut butter pies were not ready yet so I didn't get my fix. Overall I have to say the food was perfect! Hugeee portions at a reasonable price and everything was very tasty. The restaurant has a very homey feel and although service was fantastic in the beginning of our meal I wish it followed through as the restaurant got busier. However despite that little flub up I will still be making a return visit as I still have my eye on that pie! read more

Visted Perkins Restaurant on Kingston Road in Pickering today for the first & LAST time! The service was terribly, no excuse not busy. The food was overpriced and poor in quality. I would have enjoyed Cora's more and paid less. Not cheap but really annoyed with myself for not talking to the manager about the excessive wait to get our mean and same to get our bill. Its been a long time since I've eaten at Perkins and i thought they were pretty much breakfast. While searching Skip the dishes, we spotted them and took a quick look at the menu and decided to give their lunch menu a try. Two of us ordered the French Dip, with onion rings, and the third person had the shrimp and rice and we split an order of tater tots. The food was truly bad specifically the potatoes... they smelled like they've been stored in a sewer. I went home and was sick for 5 hours... truly would not recommend anyone this place. Had the eggs Benedict which was was actually two sunny side up fried eggs on top of two English muffins... That was truly laughable... they were decent but it was missing some ingredients. I would recommend the hollandaise sauce on the side... it is awful! They seem to have a more mature demographic coming to this restaurant... they should strongly consider the quality of their good given that their clientele seem to have various ailments... My wife and I went there for breakfast yesterday morning. We found the food to be very very bland and prepackaged type things similar to Denny's or Cora's. ( both of which we dislke ) The servings of meat are very small ( ie. 2 strips of bacon or sausage ), formerly frozen hash browns and I think scrambled eggs from a barrel or carton not a shell. The prices seemed high for what we got, the food was not served very hot and the coffee was $2.95 each as well. We had the build a breakfast which is $8.95 on weekdays and $10.95 on weekends. The customer service in dealing with the situation was great, which helps Perkins case, maybe they had an off day in the kitchen.
