Looking for a celebration cake? Something luxurious, not too sweet, but tasting of the actual…read moreflavours of the principal ingredients? A beautiful cake, artistically decorated without being garish? Look no further than Pesteh bakery. It took some research on my part to find a family-run bakery in Durham region. After a few very difficult years, many local businesses are trying to regain their footing, if indeed they were able to weather the storm. Pesteh fit my bill for a family-run, small business that makes unique, cheffy and artistic cake creations. The two cakes I ordered, Chocolate and the signature Pistachio, looked and tasted like nothing I could ever make. I am no dessert chef. My guests didn't even ask if I'd made the two cakes, but rather, where did I order them from? Pesteh's cakes taste every bit as remarkable as the look of their decorations. The chocolate cake had a pronounced chocolate, rather than merely sugary, taste. The pistachio cake sang with bright color and pistachio flavour. Wow. Just, wow. Not only did Pesteh provide us with cakes to show with pride, but also, the thoughtful owners gave us instructions on how to carefully store leftovers. Not that there were any leftovers. Guests were asking for seconds! Are you looking for an epic cake for that special birthday, anniversary, or holiday feast? Pesteh is conveniently located in Ajax, and I am sure that you will not be disappointed. In fact, quite the reverse! Now I know where I will get my dessert for the next special-occasion event!

This place is a baker's dream. If you love to bake & in the area... definitely worth checking out!…read moreI'm a big fan of the fondant at Flour Confections (already bought 2 tubs in the last month...very affordable!). What I like is it doesn't taste like playdoh but sweet, soft & light....unlike the Wilton brand. Wilton is only good for things u want to dry superfast or u might not want ur friends to eat cuz honestly... the taste sucks! The only thing I won't use flour confections fondant for... would prob be making figurines unless you put a lot of gum paste w/ it. I found the fondant to be very soft & pliable but its certainly easy to use/roll. I put in the wilton coloring w/ no probs and was able to dye the fondant w/ no probs. Please remember to cover the lid of ur fondant or it will go hard/dry overtime :) A lot of Bakeries around the GTA also order fondant from Flour Confections. I haven't gone to the store yet but ordered things online on two occasions. I was super impressed w/ how efficient they are as I was able to get the product in 1-2 days via Canada Post Expedited. Just in time for my cake class! They also have lots of baking tools sold online & in the store plus offer baking classes.

They have a loooooot of tools and items for baking but its very expensive…read more They have decorative dust, food colouring, food flavouring, cookie cutters, stencil, fondant and way more. However I find its a bit expensive. A few units down is Sweets Galore where they have a baker section at the back, open to the public. I usually go there first. Sweet Galore also has a long wall of candy molds. If Sweets Galore doesnt have what I want, THEN I go to Flour Confections. The younger white girls who work at Flour Confections aren't friendly, so I dont particularly enjoy going here, and avoid it if I can. They don't greet you when you come in, or ask if you need help when they see you looking forever for something and seem bothered when you ask for help. They dim my rainbow. I gave them 3 stars for variety and docked them 2 points for price and poor attitude of the young girls.

Recently found this hidden gem of a bakery!…read more Chanel helped me create stunning custom designed cupcakes for my daughter's 12th birthday party. Not only did they look good but of course they tasted delicious. Chanel really takes the time and really cares about the products she creates. I had seen on instagram a few friends that had gone to Cocoa Berry and decided to check it out, as it's actually pretty close to me. I called the owner Channel during the week to pick up cupcakes for Saturday of the same week. She answered right away and was ready to take my order. She offered me alternatives to work with our budget, and even went out to the stag shop to really make them bachelorette worthy. They were ready and boxed for me on Saturday afternoon to pick up, even though I was running late. There is ample amount of underground parking available. They also have other items that you can get like jerk chicken! I am going to have to come back for that. The cupcakes were jumbo and frosted with goodness. It was moist and not overly sweet. My girlfriend loves vanilla cupcakes, and as do I, and it was made to perfection. The toppers were a great touch as she printed out bachelorette themed prints, as well as the bride to be's event logo, which she loved. Very reasonably priced and great response time. Will be coming back!

Buon Giorno is a typical Italian deli, with fresh bread, a small Hot Table of take-out foods, and some deli cases with fresh meat and cheese. They also have a decent selection of Italian dry goods. It is not as sumptuous or as varied as you will find in Etobicoke or on St. Clarie Street, but it is one of the best bakeries in the Pickering/Ajax area. Sorry, one star taken off because they do not take credit cards - only cash or debit. Their pizza dough, ricotta cheese and bread are quite excellent. At least, the best that we get in Pickering/Ajax. And don't skip the Hot Table foods, if you are lookng for a take-out lunch. The veal sandwich is very nice. Well done, but really - just get a credit card machine! I would go there so much more often!

The selection of baked goods is horrendous, scones and macarons are NOT Italian!! The selection is bland and the food has zero taste. The cookies and baked goods are burnt and look inedible!! Nothing in this place is true Italian. The owner has her nose so far in the air she isn't seeing what the customers actually want. I give this place until the EOY before it is done.
