I visited this COBS Bread in Vaughan for hot cross buns. It's in a massive plaza. I had never been to this location. It was also my first time getting hot cross buns from any COBS Bread location. I found a parking spot steps away from this store's main entrance. I backed into the spot. I had to wait for a woman with horrible pull-in parking skills to get her act together and park next to me after a few tries. I then left my car and headed inside the store. She followed suit. Three employees were behind the counter chatting. I approached the counter. They all seemed to not know who was going to help me. A female staffer said hi. I started to rattle off what I wanted to get when she engaged in a chat with the other male staffer. Um, no. It's rude that I am mid-sentence placing my order and you turn to your male staffer to chat about a topic that has nothing to do with baked goods? I interrupted their conversation and continued to place my hot cross buns order. I'm at this stage these days where I don't tolerate rudeness. Don't interrupt me. I can and will reciprocate. Luckily, poor parking woman behind me got the male staffer. It all worked out. The woman let me know that there were only four orange cranberry hot cross buns. To get my half-dozen buns, I got two of the regular ones. My weakness at COBS? The custard danish pastries. The raspberry had my name all over them. I got two of them. I had my COBS rewards QR code scanned. I then paid with a credit card. Done! I got my hot cross buns in a bag. My two pastries were in a large paper bag. I thanked her and headed to my car. By the time I was about to drive away, poor parking woman came out of the store. She was kind to let me pull away. It helps that I was kind having her pull into the spot next to mine before I got out, except I was scared that she was going to plow into my car on her first attempt! I had one of the raspberry and custard danish pastries the other night. It's my favourite. It's slightly sweet. The custard was smooth and made sure that the real raspberries didn't fall off. The raspberries were ripe and yummy. The pastry was excellent. I'm glad that I got two. I had one of the orange cranberry hot cross buns for breakfast this morning. I split one in half and toasted it. You can really eat it on its own without adding any butter, jam, or your favourite nut spread. It was delicious with a lot of semi-dried cranberries and orange peel. I'm almost afraid of having one of the plain ones because this fruit combo was so yummy. Other than young staffers considering their conversations far more important than hearing a customer's order, it's a decent bakery. I hope that when I return, the three chatty staffers are more focused on working than chatting amongst themselves about nothing work-related. I sound like a crochety customer. My favorite is Pana Rustika (oval, sourdough, organic whole grain rye & red fife ww flours). The outside is crispy, well, actually "hard". But the interior is super moist and flavorful. "The more you chew, the more flavor comes out" type of bread. A perfect companion for good quality natural cheese or simple soup. It's been my go-to place on my way home to grab breads for dinner. Eating quality sourdough at the end of the day gives me comfort. Many loaves are gone by the time I go, but I have had luck so far to grab the last bread on the shelf!
