If you forgot your dessert at home, heading to a holiday party and don't want to show up empty handed, this spot does the trick. The vast array of butter tarts really caught our eye. It was like $4 for one tart (including custard tart) or $18.50 for a tray of 6. So we got a tray of 6 and did a mix and match with one custard tart. I say the butter tarts are pretty good. The custard is just okay... I might just have higher expectations with custard tarts as I've had some of the best in Macao. I would recommend to get the full tray butter tarts instead. There are many different flavours. Service was okay and it wasn't too busy. They were just winding down to close for Christmas Eve. read more

A really good hearted business that gives back to the community as well. It's tucked away on the side and you might not see if off Queen St East. Big search for it and it's well worth it. Their burger buns arey favourite as their soft and not too thick so when you have them with burgers you don't feel like you're eating a huge bun. They also sell the best baguettes I say short of France. read more

Came here to get some coffee and love the selection of Breads and treats that they offer and price wise it's not too bad. Will have to come back and try their sandwiches. read more

Brick Street Bread - chocolate cookie - Bakeries Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

It is the second time I go to Brick and I get a product that is far from fresh. Most recently, I bought a muffin, which was almost as hard as a rock. Not sure covid has impacted them in a way that they are retaining products longer than normal. Either way, I'd really like if Brick went back to being a great fresh bakery. I'll try again. read more

A cute little take-out bakery. They make delicious sandwiches and savoury pies. And my favourite almond croissant in the city. Twice baked! Giving this place a 4 instead of 5 only because I often show up in the afternoon and they are already sold out. Make more almond croissants! Fresh everyday. read more

This is now sort of a B-store, at best. Brick used to be my go-to at Distillery, my local Beaches (closed) and sometimes here at Logan-Queen. The Logan store used to have a bit more variety (soups chili etc.) (I also really miss the beautifully simple chocolate-walnut brownie from the days before they changed it by adding a sugary chocolate-dip coating to preserve it. The added sugar and heaviness ruins the whole appeal. The point of my review - the last two sandwiches I had here lately, meh. Pre-made in the cold case and a bit tough around the crust from sitting wrapped up. (They generally have amazing bread and I advise getting sandwiches fresh to order where stores do this.) The Boxing Day I had about a week ago was dry and chewy, really unlike any BD sandwich of the dozens I've bought at the other BSB stores over many years. Stale and lacking in fresh generous flavors of cranberry sauce, stuffing and lettuce. Let alone succulent soul-soothing protein - I was removing half of the dry old gristly flat-tasting turkey chunks from my mouth and discarding. It was like bottom-barrel leftover turkey trimmings in a sandwich priced for considerably better quality - the opposite of Boxing Day goodness. The Egg Salad sandwich I had today was better-tasting and more chewable (a few excessively tough crusts) but now my stomach feels a little off from it. I don't recall that reaction before from this sandwich. I'm worried this store is struggling to maintain quality and stock levels for takeout treats and meals. I do hope this chain of stores is not losing its original vision of real fresh food for an affordable price that can sustain it. At Logan location I'd still buy fresh bread, I just don't trust their ready-to-eat anymore sadly! read more

I found your "I" on their sign, Kat F. This is my first stop on what I will designate as the "Kat F - Miss U Crawl". I was in need of some type of Pastry for my first meal of the day. Even though their name says Bread, I was really hoping for some Pastries and Desserts. Score! It's a tiny place but the amount of Sweet Pastry to Bread ratio was around 3:1 and the decision to pick out from a variety of Tarts, Brownies, and Pies was a bit difficult but at the end Apple Pie($3.50) was the call and because it was around Sunday 4 pm, the girl even gave it to me for $3.00 as an end of day offer or maybe my charming good looks did the job. Apple Pie had thin sliced apples with skin but it actually made this a bit interesting just like how NY Fries leaves skin on their Fries. The Gelatin on top was super sticky as both my hands became like glue to anything else I touched. It's a CRUSTless Pie, so if you don't want to have sticky hands you might have to Fork&Knife this baby. It was sweet and good as an afternoon snack perfect with some Coffee or Tea. It's not a dine-in place so you'll have to take it home or something. read more

Oh my, wonderful spot for FRESH baked goods... not just bread. When my son was visiting from Montréal he would go every morning and bring home treats. Dropped in to purchase a sandwich. The sandwich however turned out to be completely inedible. The bread was soggy and the lettuce inside was brown. The sandwich had most likely been left out for days. The filling (some sort of curry chicken thing) was saucy but lacked flavor... Very very disappointed. read more

I came here on my way home and also by recommendation from a friend who raved about their tarts! Without any futher ado, I ordered 6 of the 8 flavors they had available. The butter pecan tart, the lemon tart, the cheesecake tart, the chocolate tart, the bakewell and one more that I forgot the name. Ouf of the 6 tarts, I happily consumed 3 of them and shared the rest, so I can only comment on the lemon, cheesecake and bakewell. The lemon tart was slightly too tart and sour for my liking, but the little decorative chocolate leaf makes it all better. The cheesecake was probably my favourite, just the right amount of sweetness and buttery tart to complement it's full bodied flavour. The bakewell, was alright, a litle too sticky. Every bite managed to adhere to my teeth and the roof of my mouth. Not the type of affect I was accustomed to. Overall, I'll probably come back again or maybe try out the Distillery District or FCP locale. read more

You're a bakery that sells ridiculously overpriced mediocre bread. Your minions claim to not have a bread slicer. Fuck that shit. You're a bakery. You need three things. An oven. A bag of flour. And a slicer. No one eats unsliced bread. No one wakes up and is like... "Mmmm. Today I want to munch on a loaf." Slices are the currency of the bakery industry. Without them you have nothing. I'd do better licking a stick of raw Manitoba wheat. read more

So I was strolling down Logan St from Dundas at lunchtime, wondering if I was conveniently close to the Leslieville Cheese Shop. I wanted a grilled cheese, you see. But then I stumbled upon this adorable little spot, boasting "Best sandwiches!!" on the sign outside. Or something like that. Something that made me go, "best?! WELL OKAY!" I got really excited upon entrance. If you have carb claustrophobia, never come here. I was surrounded by bread, cookies, scones, croissants, loaves, sammiches, muffins and danishes. I inquired about the sandwiches, and as the lady handed me one of the vegetable variety she proclaimed that it would be "the best sandwich I've ever eaten." WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, lady. You're speaking to a sammich-loving Yelper and this is a grand, sweeping statement. Then I got all excited cause I saw a slab of sticky ginger loaf, and I was all, "um, gimme." So I left with a bag o' carbs in hand. (NOTE TO ALL: Cash only). Well, the loaf was kind of a dry let down, but the sandwich was quite satisfying. NOT the best I've ever eaten, but good. Lady, you lied. Overall, I'd give 'em another chance, but that dry slab o' loaf was way too overpriced. They'll have to wait their penalty time before I return. PS: Leslieville Cheese Shop is a 15 second walk away, as I discovered the minute I hit Queen St. Me: FAIL! read more

In the search for the city's best croissant i tried this one (and nothing else here.) At first sight, i was hesitant, too pale and (artificially) blond, too big but not plump. 2 CAD for that?! Go to Bonjour Brioche if you need a croissant it's close-by. This Brick Street Bread ones can only be good stuffed with a lot of nutella. No idea about their breads and other items there. read more

Although diminuitive in size , Brick Street Breads is chock-o'-block full of breads and pastries for a caroboholic like myself. I go there every week and keep reaching for the walnut sourdough bread. Yes, it is a little more expensive, but there is no way that loaf is going to languish on the counter or in the fridge getting stale. Even croutons and breadcrumbs made out of its heel, elevates whatever you eat. Their grapeskin baguette is also killer and looks so beautiful standing up in the rustic baskets that line the perimeter of the store. A six-pack of tartlettes, decorated to the nines, always makes your dinner guests lean in a little closer over dessert. Sundays, get up quietly so as to not disturb your sweetheart, and head to the bakery for their Chelsea Buns , which are gargantuan in size and could easily feed the both of you. Buy two anyways, to avoid a kerfuffle over breakfast, and in anticipation of afternoon snacking. The front of house staff are chipper and friendly in spite of the fact that they have probably been there since 5:30 am. Free samples abound, an end of the day croissant has been popped into my bag with a wink and a nod. I love my neighbourhood bread hookup. read more

I love Brick Street Bread. About once a week I visit Rowe Farms for Eggs and Brick Street for Bread and I go home and feast. Makes me so happy. My favorite is yeast free sourdough, or Multigrain. They are $5 a loaf. Considering that our neighborhood Shoppers Drug Mart sells generic multigrain loaves for almost $4, I have no problem spending the extra bit on something fresh baked and delicious. Lots of little sweets and treats as well, including Gluten Free. Thrilled to have Brick Street so close to home. read more

This review is for their cookies only. I've yet to try their bread or other pastries - but the cookies were hard and not so delicious. Cookie Monster not like. I've had many a better cookie, including crossing the street to Starbucks! I'll opt for a brioche next time. read more

Brick Street's bread is pretty great, baked fresh on-site at the Lesilieville location. Have tried many of their speciality loaves but am also drawn back to their classic french baguette. light and fluffy on the inside, crusty, delicious exterior. Perfect compliment to cheese and wine. Don't miss out on their pastries as well. their chocolate brioche is to die for and rivals Bonjour Brioche's (which happens to be a five minute walk away). Have also tried their macaroons, also good, a little bit pricey though. read more

Brick Street Bread is one of a number of places that sell freshly baked bread in this area of the city. It's a very cute and enticing little building that screams "come get freshly baked delicious carb goodness". Brick Street does offer a number of different types of breads, as well as pastry, and pre-made sandwiches. I've only tried the bread so I can't speak to any of the other items they sell. There seems to be a wide variety of breads. I've tried the Country White Baguette and the Small Whole Wheat Loaf. The first thing i noticed was the prices were rather high. I opted for the small whole wheat loaf, which is 3.75 and rather reasonable but there is a large whole wheat loaf that is $7, which seems a bit insane to me. The bread was good but not good enough to justify a $7 loaf of bread. The service was mediocre. I went in at lunch time and there was a very long line of people and one person manning the counter, only she wasn't manning the counter, she was helping someone on the phone and didn't seem to be in any rush to assist the many people filling up the small store. In my opinion, when you have a line almost out of the door tell the person on the phone to call back and help the people in line. Also they don't have a bread slicer.... not a big deal, but when you sell sandwich loafs of bread, it should be an option. I find whenever I try to cut my own sandwich bread slices they end up way too thick and I waste half the loaf. It's a bakery, it should have a bread slicer. All in all, the bread was good, the service kind of sucked. I would go back at some point but I'm in no rush. I think I'll check out some of the other bakeries in the neighbourhood first. read more

Oh dear, me, Brick Street Bread. I'm worried about our relationship. You and I recently met, and I'm quite smitten. Smitten with all of your pastry offerings, delicious cookies, and various tarts. I do love me a solid butter tart. And, fancy breads, reasonably priced, all while supporting local business? I'm swooning. However. I'm afraid our weekend visits need to slow down. As much as I enjoy your wares, my waistline is rioting, and that, my dearest, is never good. I'll still love you though, just not as often. See you tomorrow? read more

Their croissants, brioches, and danishes are delicious! The danishes are a really great weekend treats - I prefer the ones topped with fresh raspberries, but sometimes they top them with walnuts. The danishes are light and flaky, topped with a super yummy custard, then an apricot glaze, then garnished with above mentioned raspberries or nuts. Try it. You'll love it. read more

found this bakery while wandering on Queen Street - it was hidden on a side street. walked inside to check it out and it was very quaint inside. Lots of variety. I love Brick Street Bread! It's tough to walk by without the aroma drawing me in. The croissants are fantastic. It's possible that they're not quite as delicious as those available at Bonjour Brioche nearby, but they're a bit bigger. The varieties of bread that they have available are also pretty good. They recently improved their signage and added an awning outside. I wish they'd keep the awning up more often as shelter from the elements. While I do love the croissants, they are frequently sold out of their regular butter croissants. I understand that they wouldn't want to have them leftover, but this is consistent enough that I think they should make more. There is paid parking in a lot beside the building. There technically isn't street parking, but many people tend to stop illegally right out front. read more

It must be hard to be an absentee owner and to find good staff. Today at 11:45 am I received the worst service ever and given that I have been regular here again after staying away for a while due to bad service I will not be back. Nothing here has changed, bad service continues and with downward sales quality is going down as well. I also noticed that they now have less than 4 start out of 5 and it has been my experience 4-5 stars is ok, less than 4 stars stay away. This place is prime to have a yelp event, as I noticed all places having trouble tend t have yelp events before they close their doors. Message to owner. Please remind your staff that they are mere clerks in a bakery and no room for attitude. read more

I have had the sun dried tomato bread and some type of herbed white bread here, and they are OK. I don't really get all the hoopla from my neighbours over this bakery. The bread is kind of expensive ($5.50) and I had a cookie as well last time which I didn't really like (it was flat, in every possible dimension). It is conveniently located in Leslieville and the staff is friendly, but it's one of those places where I make an appearance every few months because I just seem to forget that it's not that great. Like Jack Astors... I seem to forget that I don't really like it and occasionally go back, only to be reminded of what I really think. read more

Brick Street Breads is a nice little place to find some quality baked goods with a large selection to choose from. They have samples of all of their breads cut up for you to sample so you can see what you may like. Yeah, it is a little on the pricy side but it offers something that a lot of places just don't anymore, that being a combination of selection, freshness, and rich flavour. The bread is hearty and thick, not filled with air. You can actually cut through a loaf of bread without it squashing down so that the top crust meets the bottom crust. You do get what you pay for. The baguettes are great, as are the full loafs of whole wheat. They also have a nice selection of freshly baked sweets which are also very decent, but this is where I would say they do charge a little too much for what you get. Overall, a nice place to stop at and get some fresh breads. read more

So far I've only tried their sandwiches. The tuna and roast beef ones are okay, but the chicken sandwich is really good! It has some apple in it that really makes the taste. The only problem is that if you work in the area and need lunch, you can't rely on there being any sandwiches left when you get there. Nice problem to have as a business, but I've left hungry a couple of times now. :( There's earlier review saying cash-only, but since then they've added debit. Not sure about credit cards. read more

This place sucks so badly. What kind of bakery doesn't have a BREAD SLICER? That's like going out to steakhouse that doesn't have cutlery. In addition to this, the bread I bought was the worst sour-dough bread I've ever tasted. Completely flavourless. And I don't mean "flavourless for high-end bread". I mean, had less flavour than Wonderbread. It was like eating a sponge. read more

the nanaimo bars, a variety of tarts, coffee...all! are not very good. i don't buy the bread, ever!

I purchased almond croissants and a feta spinach pastry but there are way better options out there. The croissants were pretty hard by the next day, and the pastry was very run-of-the-mill, no different than what you'd get at a lower end grocery store. You can buy the same types of pastries for less at a chain like Whole Foods and they taste way better! Very disappointed. read more

ALL their breads are incredible! They are so soft and fresh tasting, it reminds of a European bakery for sure! I can't say their selection is massive, but what they do have is pure quality.
