This is always a must for us when in Toronto. We try to plan to be sure we are there at least one day besides Sunday and Monday (when they are closed). The spinach pastry and butter greek yogurt with cherries are my favorite items, BUT they were all good. It was buy 6, get one free and we paid only $12 (U.S) for 7 pastries. Cheap lunch!! I've walked passed this place multiple times in the past but everything was typically sold out by the afternoon. Luckily for me, my family have been able to pick some up and deliver these baked goods to me during this pandemic, so my review is just based on the baked goods. Everything I've tried thus far has been good and the prices are decent. The best savoury item so far would be the parmesan leek bistro sandwich. The best sweet item so far would be the butter double chocolate, there's a lot of chocolate. I'll definitely try more. read more

We've come here twice and loved it both times. We like the double chocolate butter croissant. It's always freshly baked and delicious. There's a long line every weekend we've come here which shows how popular this place is it moves pretty quickly. They only accept debit cards and cash. Do check out their beards but I didn't think the sourdough was really great but their croissants & dinner rolls are pretty great and reasonable. It will be my go to place when I'm craving for a yummy chocolate croissant. And really charming that it's nice in the St. Lawrence market which makes for a wonderful experience. read more

First of all... Why does a bakery of this scale does not accept credit or debit?! It baffles me.... There's been many times I skipped this place because I didn't have enough cash and went elsewhere for bread/baked goods. With such a variety, you are guaranteed to find something you like/want. I mostly buy the baguettes and occasional croissants or tea biscuits.... not over the top, simple and decent quality. You can't go wrong. I'd give them a 4 star review if they accepted cards for payment... for now, it's A-okay! read more

While there are a number of bakeries in St. Lawrence Market, I settled on Stonemill (located in the lower level) because of the myriad of bread and the chocolate almond croissant seemed to be screaming out my name. Love chocolate croissants and the almonds was like extra icing on an already iced cake. The croissant was slightly crusty on the outside and flaky with a dark chocolate centre. It was topped off with a lot of almonds that while some fell into the bag there was enough left on the croissant to devour. The pastries were pretty cheap here. The croissants & danishes (they have a variety of flavours for both) were only $1.49/each. If you buy 6 of them you get the 7th for free. Sweet! (Pun fully intended). While I didn't give into my inner fatty, this is definitely etched into my mind for the next time I come. Yummeh in my tummeh. This is a hopping bakery on Saturday's. I am a big fan of their pretzel bagels and chocolate croissants. Pretzel bagels you ask - yes, they are amazing! Imagine the density of a bagel, with the exterior flavour of a pretzel (minus the salt). These (along with their pretzel rolls) go fast. One Saturday when I wake up at the crack of dawn I will trek down to the Market to see what they have fresh out of the oven. Stonemill's location is on the bottom floor, at the back of the building. We are regular patrons of Stonewall Bakehouse. Our favourite is when warm double almond croissants come out of the oven, and if we are lucky, overfilled with marzipan so they ooze out the sides and gets toasted and burnt a little. I'm highly recommending the double almond croissant. We also love their challa breads and cheese loafs, my husband is a fan of their cakey texture scones (the blueberry ones), and he also enjoys the apricot pastries and muffins. Me though....I like once in awhile indulging in a hot from the oven double almond croissant . I mean....if I'm going to eat calories ....I better eat the best tasting calories! :-D read more

We walked into the market within one hour of closing and, this being our first time, didn't even know this bakery existed. When I stopped by there were only a handful of things left, and while many of them looked tempting, the multigrain croissant was obviously the winner. The next 5 minutes I mmmm'd and ahhhhhh'd through the ground level of the market marveling at the wholesome yet decadently smooth and perfectly flaky piece of baked genius. It's a shame we didn't have time to go back since this was our last day in the city, but you know I'll be making a beeline next time. I'm coming for you! read more

I've loved everything I've tried from this popular bakery. My favourites are spinach pastry, almond croissant, pumpkin danish. Others I've liked are blueberry danish and maple pecan. They make everything fresh and there's usually a line of people buying from them. I recommend eating the pastries quickly after buying them. They taste a lot better when they're fresh. read more

We almost left St. Lawrence Market without even knowing there was a lower level. We chose to explore the downstairs in search of a dessert to share. I picked a chocolate croissant from Stonemill. The croissant was just okay. The chocolate filling was sparse though. I've had better. It was overpriced for what we got. There are a lot more options at Stonemill. Recently found this place on the lower level of the St. Lawrence Market and what a treat this was. I was just looking for a loaf of light rye bread and they had exactly what I was looking for plus a plethora of other varieties all fresh baked. Because I don't like to freeze my bread I only grabbed one loaf and then when checking out I was tempted by their fresh bagels. Not a lover of bagels I figured I would still give them a shot. I must say I was very impressed by both the bagels and the bread. They were very reasonably priced and I will definitely be visiting the Stonemill Bakehouse several more times to buy fresh breads! Next time I go I am going to go for one of their more flavourful/fancy breads that they do like a pumpkin seed and cranberry bread, or something along those lines! BIG fan! read more

Let me just begin with this: I have yet to try something that I don't like! Since I work in the area, I stop by Stonemill twice a week to pick up bread for my family. My husband loves the cheese croissants, our son devours the pretzel sticks and muesli bagels. My favorites are the ciabatta buns (- try to those toasted and topped with tomatoes!) and mulitgrain paninis (- eat it with Nutella - it's so yummy!). We have also had the cranberry walnut bread a few times and it never lasted longer than a few hours. I also find their sweet bakery items very good. If I were a superhero... no wait, scratch that. As a superhero, one of my biggest weaknesses is a good pastry. Am I'm always in search of flaky, sweet, buttery pastries. This is one battle where my sensible side always loses to my primal cravings. So being in the St. Lawrence market area I decided to try Stonemill, which so many of my fellow Yelp friends have said good things about. The raspberry twist was pretty good, crisp, flaky and sweet, just as I like 'em! And considering I got it late in the afternoon I'd love to try a fresh one in the early morn. The chocolate almond danish was a bit of a disappointment. It was soft and buttery, but too soft for my liking and didn't lend itself any texture. Maybe it's cause I picked one up late in the afternoon - but it is what it is. They ran $1.59 each. 4 stars for the raspberry twist, 2 stars for the chocolate almond danish, so 3 stars overall. My first experience with Stonemill Bakehouse was at a Metro grocery store. I bought a loaf of their Flax & Honey Bread and was instantly hooked. Savory AND low on calories. It wasn't before long that I made my way down to their actual storefront at the St. Lawrence Market where I've discovered even more goodies! My new favourites are now Cranberry-Walnut Bread (you can totally skip any jam or spread and just devour as is!) and the Cranberry-Pumpking Seed Bread. Their staff are always friendly. I have also purchased the brioche and made French Toast with it, however, I found it to be a bit dry. I also purchased some croissants for brunch one day. Their chocolate-almond croissant was really yummy, but I did not like the fact that their plain almond croissants were shaped like danishes... a Croissant is a Croissant! If anything, the Pain au Chocolat (aKa Chocolate Croissants are more commonly shaped as danishes). In closing, they have great breads, but their pastries are just so-so. read more

So I thought maybe they just have a different style of croissant, I decided to try scone. Again it's bland. It's so dry I almost choked myself. Usually my last stop after a meal at the market to grab a dessert. I usually get something sweet such as their almond or chocolate croissant. Prices are not bad at all for these smaller pastries. I think I might grab a baguette next time and try some different cheeses and deli meats around the market for lunch. read more

Very good quality bake stuffs. I prefer to get there 15 mins after they open when everything is fresh out the oven. Muffins, cookies, croissants--multigrain is excellent,, pastries everything is delicious. They have a new series of pastries, cheese & leek, sundried tomato, they are a bit overpriced at $2.00 given the size and that they are commercial not store made. Staff are efficient and busy people so if they are abrupt at times cut them some slack it's a busy location. read more

I used to think their bread was good, but now I find it so dry that I don't know if they've changed their ingredients or what. The flax bread is just plain dough with a few flax seeds but incredibly dry, even the sunflower cranberry when it's fresh you'd think it was a few days old. And when you toast it, it gets even worse. I've had their scones and found the same problem, they need to put more oil in the mixture. read more

Pretty much the only bread I buy: delicious, healthy, and all natural ingredients. A real throwback to European bread making. Their bagels are also delicious and hold up well after freezing. Oddly the price here can sometimes be higher than the grocery stores that stock Stonemill. Also I think they shut down shop earlier than the other places at St Lawrence. read more

This is a place with some of the best pastries and on the other side - the most disrespectful customer service in city. I live just next to St.Lawrence Market and quite often coming straight from work here to buy bread or whatever. They are open till 6 p.m., however at 5:30 everything unsold is already packed in plastic bags, stored on racks behind the workers who are dressed and ready to leave. In other words this is classical "what the f**k you want, we are done for today" behaviour to us. If one single bun is left I want to see it on the shelf even at 5:59, not to point with my finger somewhere toward storage room behind grumpy face staff, asking what is that there. read more
