To be fair, the majority of these stars belong to our server, Sophia. She was absolutely amazing. We were greeted immediately upon entering and she was attentive the entire time we were there. I do like that the menu provides caloric details... or maybe I don't! :) They offer every combination of cod, haddock and halibut with sides. They also offer hake, which I've never heard or before. They have quite a wide variety of other items on their menu so I reckon there's something for everyone. You can have your fish deep-fried but they have grilled options available as well. I also noticed that they have a full breakfast menu which includes an eggs benny! I'll have to come back to check that out. The restaurant is open, bright and clean. You can dine in or grab a takeaway. I think the prices are fair based on the various fish options. You're always going to pay more for halibut (which I prefer) but the haddock, cod and hake are considerably less expensive. Overall, the meal was okay but as mentioned above, the stars go to Sophia. Had the lunch special (halibut, chips and coleslaw) left happy and full. Lots of items on the menu to choose from. The food comes to you fast, I waited about ten minutes, felt less to be honest. The waitress is nice and checks in on everyone even when it's busy. Love this halibut house location it doesn't get too busy, perfect for dine in, and you won't wait too long either for takeout. Some guy came in yelling at the waitress about his lunch special order complaining it was small. Went in during March Break, to enjoy their March Break promo for free kids meal. We went in at 7:45, completely didn't remember to check their hours (they close at 8pm), and we're informed right when we walked in. There was still 3 other tables waiting for their food when we sat down. We ordered quickly, and when the food arrived, we ate as fast as we could we our little one. It's been a long time since I've been to Halibut House in Pickering, even though it's in my neighbourhood. On this visit, I had their Haddock Fish & Chips for only 12.99, as advertised on a poster in their front window. It was a good sized piece of fish with a generous amount of chips and coleslaw. This was a really good meal with good flavour. This place gets bonus marks for providing full bottles of ketchup and tartar sauce instead of the little packets! This restaurant was a corner location with high ceilings, big bright windows, and lots of space between tables. It was very clean, with friendly and efficient service. The fish was great in size and freshness. It was longer than the box it came in! The chips tasted potato-y but felt hollow inside. Maybe the oil needs to be changed more frequently. I came here for take out on a Friday night, and as expected it was a tad bit busy, which I didn't mind since we knew we were getting freshly fried fish & chips. Super friendly staff, and the service for takeout was SO FAST, history I think it was only about 8min !! Even after sitting in the car for almost 10 minutes it still tasted delicious! The fish has a even costing of batter all around the fish, and they give you a ton of chips with your order. We came here with a coupon for 2 Haddock & Chips for $12 and boy was it a good deal. I wound up here on Mother's Day after the Perkins next door was too packed...and you know what? I had a great breakfast all the same! Not only does Halibut House do amazing F&C, they put on a pretty decent breakfast. I had 3 mammoth chocolate chip pancakes (came with home fries), while my guests had the omelet and other breakfast type stuff. The pancakes were fluffy and light, not to mention HUGE. The home fries were ok...but you could taste that they were cooked in the same oil as the fish (which didn't bother me, but I'm weird). The restaurant was pretty big inside, with a high ceiling that kind of made it loud in there but not unbearably. Prices for breakfast start as low as $3.95! Wow, what a great neighbourhood location in Pickering for Fish and Chips. We had a take-out special, which was 2 orders of Halibut and one order of fries. It was ready 10 minutes after I telephoned! Very courteous, friendly and speedy! Pick up was well organized and easy. When we got our order home, we were delighted with that tasty, meaty halibut, with it's firm white flesh. SO fresh tasting! The breading was almost tempura -like: delicate crunch, and not at all bready or ponderous. Our order of chips was so massive that we couldn't really finish it off, even divided between two people. If you want tartar sauce or lemon wedges, be sure to order those when you pick it up. The friendly staff will happily oblige, giving you more than you actually need. I love halibut, and it is difficult to buy in a grocery store. This was a real treat to bring home! With plenty of parking in their lot, pick-up is convenient and easy. They also have a patio if you wish to eat in, although you should probably phone in advance for that. If you are craving some great fish and chips, you should head over there now!! This was my first time eating at halibut house. We used a buy one get one free haddock and chips coupon. The price was $12.95 for one and we got the second free I was surprised at how large the fish piece were. It was a filling meal. The fries were large cut, the coleslaw had the right amount of vinaigrette and was not overloaded with mayo. The fish tasted great. It had just the right amount of batter and not too greasy. Fish was decently sized and not super caked in batter which was good. The fries were standard chippy fries, maybe a touch greasy. I was crazy hungry and wanted a pretty big breakfast so I ended up making a quick stop here since I was in the area. Went straight to the take-out counter and was assisted right away by one of their staff who was incredibly friendly. She took my order and advised me that it would be just about 5 minutes and she really wasn't kidding! I think it actually took me longer to decide what I wanted. Originally, I was thinking of getting their really cheap breakfast special but I ended up getting one of their bigger platters with French Toast. I'm picky with my French Toast but theirs wasn't too bad. Nothing extraordinary, but it was good. Platter also came with 2 strips of bacon, 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of peameal bacon, 2 sausages and home fries. The meal cost about $13++ and was totally worth the price as I had 2 meals out of it. And to think, I was thinking of going to McD's for breakfast. Glad I opted this instead. If only they would include a cup of coffee to go with the meal or at least some eggs, that would've been great. The whole meal went right in the garbage. This restaurant was good when it opened but over the last year or so has really gone downhill. Went there for breakfast this morning... Ordered the cheese omelette... What I received though was a plain omelette, with processed cheese in the middle and then folded over. It doesn't bother me that every other egg meal that probably used the same ingredients cost half the price and for 10 dollars the only difference was a slice or two of fake cheese. I think the owner, and more the chef should be EMBARRASSED to serve their customers a meal like that. I wouldn't serve that to a guest at my house, let alone charge someone for such a meal. Having said that... The service was great, the place is very clean and I have eaten here before for the actual fish and chips and the food is good. After hanging at the mall, we were looking for a fish and chips place to go to. We were stuck between Jasper's Fish and Chips and Halibut House. Jasper's had pretty good reviews. When we got to Jasper's, it was closed and the decision was made for us. Off to Halibut House we went. Upon first glance, the place was very clean and neat. We were hesitant to try this place because we read that it was only opened for over a week. I'm glad that we went here! We ordered the poutines and loved it. The gravy was nicely seasoned. At first, i didnt expect that much, 'cause its just not near my house...Anyway,i ordered halibut fish n chips n cakes for dessert. when I first saw the plate, I just thought they used clean oil. We decided to have Halibut House on Easter Saturday. Boy were we amazed at the fish and chips we got! First off we visited a Fish and Chips place on Brock Rd. that opened up on Good Friday and were so disappointed with what we got. Not only that but they charging 2.75 for every can of pop... (That's outrageous!) We were so discouraged but decided to give a shot to Halibut House anyway. First off, Gerry the manager of the location was absolutely amazing. He was very approachable and kind. My wife and I found ourselves having nostalgic/insightful discussions about a wide range of topics with Gerry. The prices for the food were well priced and the staff besides Gerry were very friendly. Since then we have visited 3 more times. Every single time we visited it's been the same amazing service, great food and great conversations. The fish is nicely battered and well cooked. The chips are very crispy as well. The best part for me is that the food isn't extremely oily like at other locations in Pickering. Decor is pretty minimalistic - not your typical wood panel red carpet fish and chips place, but the food is what matters most! The halibut was very good too (better imo) and I would definitely go back if in the area. The biggest downside had to be the packaged tartar sauce... Looks (I.e. The fish & chips whether it's halibut haddock or cod are generally very good, however our last visit on Sept 16th was disappointing. Don't know what fish they were serving but we ordered cod, I can tell you it wasn't cod, even my husband noticed, more like a monk fish variety. Either their supplier is at fault or they are, they should be able to tell the difference even before it's cooked. We've never had a problem with the Whitby location, always get what you order and it's always very good. Don't like coming here for breakfast as the potatoes have that fishy taste from being done in the same oil. They should leave breakfast alone. read more

Halibut House is great. I am not sure why the reviews aren't higher, but the owner/manager of this franchise (Gary) is extremely personable as is the female that also works there. I haven't spoken to anyone else. The establishment is new, and clean and the service is quick. The Fish and Chips are great. The batter is light and airy, and the chips are pretty good. I'm guessing the incident of not double frying was limited to one day. I've been there at least 3 times and the fries have been on point. Overall a good place to eat. read more
