Halibut House is much more than just classic fish and chips. With a robust and diverse seafood menu, Halibut House offers shrimp, deep fried clams, choices of cod, haddock or halibut, and more. My husband and daughter both ordered halibut and fries, and I had halibut and onion rings. The fish was hot and crispy when I got it home, and it's crunchy coating didn't suffer in travel time. The onion rings were great: crispy and savory. The fries were the typical, thicker cut of fries that seem be an inevitable accompaniment to fish and chips; nostalgic, hearty comfort food which somehow is perfect with a Fish 'n' Chips dinner. The order came with loads of packets of tartar sauce, vinegar (both white and malt) and ketchup. The fish itself was substantial: thick, super-fresh and pleasantly flaky, yet not dried out. The coating was a shatteringly crispy masterpiece, and better executed than many fish and chip restaurants. Delicious, and just what we wanted from a fish and chips dinner! Halibut is so difficult to buy in the Toronto area, that it was a rare treat. As tempting as their diverse seafood menu is, I'll probably just keep ordering the halibut. After all, they aren't called the Halibut House for nothing! The portions were large enough that I couldn't finish mine. After 5 minutes in the Air Fryer, it made a splendid lunch!!

The cod fish was a decent size portion. It came with a heap of coleslaw and freshly cut fries which were served steaming hot out of the kitchen. Talk about freshness! Each table had a bottle of ketchup and a bottle of tartar sauce which was convenient for diners. Very clean and tidy inside. Service was prompt, personable and efficient. It's enough for around 3-5 people. The gravy was not too salty. The restaurant seems to get decent traffic despite the aged look, change in ownership (that happened years back) and empty dinnering area lining the windows. The woman working there seems to be someone who like to get to know her customers. There is a parking out front but the lines for the individual spaces seemed to be very faded.

Fish (a few different types) Chips. A few other things that are typical in a fish and chips shop. Staff looks like a real mom and pop duo. Friendly man takes my order quickly and the nice lady gets to work in the kitchen. I got a halibut and chips with some coleslaw. To go. The food comes out quick. The packaging is well thought out for the travel home. It's a nice to see they care about the details. At home when I open the package it looks fabulous. The fish is golden and crispy. Sliced thin it's a large piece of fish. I prefer it like this over the chunky cuts that I sometimes see in other places. The fries are great. Fresh cut. Perfectly cooked. The coleslaw is homemade creamy and fresh. Slightly sweet it cuts through and complements the not too greasy fried food quite nicely. Even with a good splash of vinegar the fish stays crispy. Haddock & Chips order had an impressively sized fish fillet piece along with plenty of thick cut fries underneath. For takeout, we were peeved that they used pre-packed condiments for tartar sauce rather than provide some homemade or dine-in option. But the fish itself was golden & crunchy on the outside with pleasant flaky fillet texture inside. Well worth it, and they even offer $11 Sun/Mon specials. As for the Halibut & Chips, we were sadly underwhelmed by our first attempt. The fish is firm, mild in flavour with perhaps a little bit of sweetness. It tasted rather bland. We may have to try it fresh to see if it's an acquired taste. Otherwise we'll stick to cod/haddock. The fries accompanying both were a tad soggy but did a bit better with a splash of S&P. To be honest, we've had comparable fish & chips elsewhere. We've even started to rely on our own air fryer at home to cut some grease. I think for the price we were a bit disappointed by the quantity of the calamari and for the chicken souvlaki, a bit sad looking (see pic) and not as flavourful or just below par. Definitely skip the souvlaki here and get what they're known for. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant. However, we just ordered for takeout.

I said ok no problem Upon my food arriving it was pretty small ( look at pic). And I would have given a 1 star review But I must say the halibut (even though miniature in size) was actually crispy and flavourful and even though I didn't take a picture, the fish was pretty thick. Therefore my reason for 3 stars. Also, the fries were not quite right for a fish and chips shoppe. Either they were frozen or they were re-cooked for too long and they were hard, bland and tasteless. Ordered the halibut and chips. Very greasy and patches on the fish with no batter. Clearly someone missed a step here with cooking our meal or the oil wasn't hot enough or both. I love to support local but I prefer to drive to Stouffville (Joy's) and Toronto for fish and chips now. The sign outside visible off Hwy 7 that shows "Breakfast Special Only $5.95" is not outdated! This deal gets you an egg, 2 sausages, bacon, or ham,2 slices of buttered toast as well as some "homefries" which were just small cuts of potatoes (not your typical crunchy hashbrowns). They also offer breakfast poutine (pictured below) which are tater tots topped with cheese, green peppers and hollandaise sauce - a bit too rich for my liking but definitely tasty. Coffee is refillable. Plenty of parking as this plaza rarely gets busy. Breakfast items served until 2pm Their fish and chips are great as well. Nice, light batter compared with that of a traditional beer batter. Their tartar sauce could be better. It comes in those individual packets so not made fresh in house. They have daily specials - so gets busy on Sundays!
