Super mid. The food is not bad, but also nothing special. I did find it a bit pricy to have that small cod piece for 20 dollars. The service was good, and the ambiance was low-key/diner vibe. It is not the tidiest restaurant. I may come back for their daily special, but that's about it. read more

Friendly service and food is good. We like the halibut. The cod is ok too but chewier. Greek salad is pretty basic but gets those greens in. Grilled garlic shrimp is a hit with the kiddo. read more

Fish and chips are great. Came here on a weekday dinner. Decent amount of takeout orders but not many people dining in. This place has a ton of selection not just for the protein but for all the different side combinations you can accompany your fish/shrimp/scallop. Their combos I think are quite good value. I got the Seafood Platter (23.95) which included battered haddock, 3 battered black tiger shrimp, 3 breaded bay scallops, fresh cut fries and a small coleslaw. It's definitely a ton of food. It's a pretty light batter overall, nice and dry on the outside but a nice fluffy inside for the haddock. Quality stuff. I'm quite skeptical of fish and chips being too oily and just leaving you feeling full and bogged down but this place does it right! Will for sure return here! read more

Come on a special day (Sun, Mon, Wed) Expensive on a non-special day, and smaller portions. We ordered takeout over the pandemic and portions are super generous and affordable! We dined in and got the lunch portion, on a Tuesday. Portion was much smaller, so spring for the full size. Fish is fresh, batter is yummy and fries are great! Very solid Fish & Chips! Don't let the franchise thing scare you off, the owners here are a really nice young couple who care a lot about the food they put out. Everything is freshly made, cooked with care, and served by friendly warm staffers. Sunday Monday they have a haddock fish and chips special that is a really great deal, and everything I have had there has been very solid. Better than most of the places that charge twice as much. I like the fries well done, and the fish cooked lightly, crisp but juicy. Ask for lemon and tartar sauce, and you'll be back! read more

What a great find. Would love to give it another half star. Came here for lunch and just had the lunch special; halibut, chips and coleslaw. Finally a place that does the fish right. Fresh fish in a light batter. Thick cut chips and malt vinegar. The service was excellent with a genuine smile and the cooks saying thank you as you leave. Highly recommend this excellent fish and chips restaurant. Eat in or take out. read more

We picked up four fish meals today to bring to a Father's Day lunch - 2 orders of cod and chips, and 2 orders of grilled halibut with salad. The salads were fresh, but unfortunately the fish and chips were dry and overcooked. The fish was so hard and dry, and the fries were starchy and over-fried. We ended up throwing out half of our meals. We've been to this location a few times in the past and always enjoyed the food, but today it was just really, really bad. And it wasn't just one meal that was bad - all four fish meals were really awful. A restaurant that specializes in fish and chips should be able to do one thing really well - make great fish and chips! - but today made us seriously reconsider visiting and recommending this restaurant again. We'll have to look somewhere else for good fish and chips in the city :( read more

Just got their Sunday special today. Great deal for under 10$. We got two orders and started eating it on our way home. The fish and chips were great. I don't know why some folks didn't like the fries. Only complaint would be if u hated thick cut amazingly cooked fries. Service was great considering. Hoping they survive as we get out of this pandemic. read more

Great spot for the traditional dish! Their halibut tasted fresh and the batter is nice and crispy. I read the reviews about their fries, but personally, I didn't have an issue with them. You get a generous amount of food to satisfy your hunger. I will be back to try the other selections of fish! read more

Fish and chips was excellent ... they offer halibut (yum), haddock, shrimp (yum), scallops with all sorts of sides and salad combinations ... friendly family diner atmosphere. Everytime I come I notice a more mature (over 65) cliental which is always an indication of a "good bargain" in the air. Try this place for sure! read more

Got takeout from here and it was delicious! Really hit the spot, and even though it was takeout (drive for me was about 10 min total there and back), the fish batter was still so crispy. Love the way they wrap it up. The fries on the other hand could use some improvement, it's very thick, kinda soft and some overdone. I had them with a poutine as well and it was good, but on their own, I think I'd get bored of them. Would've been better if they had been more crispy. They give you tons of condiments, although, I wish they made their own tartar sauce considering how good their fish is. The prepackage tartar sauce is a bit too sweet for my liking. They give you tons of malt vinegar and ketchup too. Both cod and halibut were good, but my fave is still the halibut. :) Will definitely come back again for some takeout! read more

I consider myself a fish and chips snob and this Halibut House location does an excellent job on my favourite, halibut and chips. So far we've only had take out. Hoping to dine in as soon as Covid is past. It's always even better when it comes straight from the fryer. This location is part of a good sized chain. I used to ride out to Port Perry to eat there. They have added quite a few locations since then. In spite of a couple of negative reviews here, we've found the quality to be consistent and our orders have always been ready on time. read more

Popped in on a Friday night and the place was hopping. Let's start with the restaurant...the place was spotless....Clean, well lit and more spacious than it looks from outside. The menu is pretty varied....seafood, gyros, burgers, etc...but the place is a fish and chips joint. I ordered the halibut and chips. It was $15.95 and it included a large piece of halibut, an ample portion size of chips and coleslaw. The weakest component of the plate was the coleslaw..,it was pretty bland and unappealing. The halibut was delicious....cooked perfectly....excellent portion size. The chips weren't the best I've had...but they were good non the less. The staff were stellar. Attentive and fast. Great food, decent price, great staff...would recommended will return. read more

Our go to fish and chip place in Thornhill. My wife is from UK so she always craves her fish and chips. The prices are surprisingly low and I don't know how they can make any profit particularly on the Sunday / Monday halibut specials (8$)! Hopefully they will endure the pandemic and survive as a going concern. We highly recommend! read more

Decent fish and chips, but very inconsistent. Sometimes you get light flaky batter, but others rubbery and overcooked. My recommendation is to only get the Halibut, as it seems to be better quality and consistency compared to their Haddock and Cod. Fries are passable, and the staff seem hard working and nice. Overall a good place for Fish and Chips. read more

Ordered takeout since I was craving fish and chips lately. A tad bit oily, but what can you expect from a fried fish and fries? Fish itself was really crispy. The area has been waiting for a good fish and chips spot for a long time, and finally the community can rest easy. Healthy portions, light crispy batter, thick-cut fish and fresh ingredients all make this my go-to fish and chips in the neighbourhood. I'm new in the area and had a hankering for fish and chips. Happy to have found this place. I had the battered halibut and chips. The portions were large. The batter was light and crispy, the fish cooked to perfection and the chips were delicious. Frank and Garry were delightful and shared their knowledge of the area with me. I called for take out 20 minutes before they were closing . She didn't rush me and greeted me right at 9pm closing with a smile . Our halibut was done to perfection and lots of fries. Not greasy as you can see through the take out container/paper . Condiments were all in the bag as well . That's why I keep coming back . read more

My family was very dissatisfied with our takeout from the Aurora Halibut House. The fish was over cooked and dry, the fries were hard and tasteless. The restaurant had many patrons, so maybe I just had bad luck with takeout? Also dissatisfied that we didn't get any homemade tartar sauce as many others recommended or any coleslaw. Spent over $60 and threw out almost all of it. read more

Went there for lunch for the first time, my son ordered the halibut lunch special and I had the regular halibut (the different is the weight of the fish). When our order arrived, I was surprised how big the portion were even for the lunch special. The fish was fresh, juicy and crispy. The fries were not dry and there were plenty of them. Friday felt like fish and chips so googled some places and Halibut came up just in the neighbourhood. I went with my Mom and husband for lunch what a wonderful surprise the place is clean, friendly very airy and light filled what a treat. As for our meal it was excellent the fish was moist white and crispy, fries as well it was excellent and I highly recommend the place. I agree with some of the other comments finally a place that does fish right....would go back again and again. Good job Halibut!! read more

The pulled pork had great flavour. It came with homefries which weren't my favourite, they didn't seem the most fresh. I ordered an iced chai latte and didn't realize it was espresso based but our waitress was super nice and switched it out for me without espresso. The service was quick and the people were friendly. It's not the most fancy brunch place but definitely a great place to go with family for a chill brunch.

It's nicer inside than it is outside. The spaces small they can accommodate larger groups because they just merged tables together. The chairs were comfortable. There's not a lot of space to get around if you have a mobility device and people are sitting at all the tables. But not that bad The goods: We went for brunch so we were mostly concentrating on brunch stuff. I got a veggie hash hash that came with an egg and toast. It was delicious. It came out steaming to the table and I appreciate the hot potatoes. Around our table people got omelets and Benedict's and mimosas. Everybody loved what they got. These people do a good brunch I saw a review with a guy said that they're hardly any people there. I'm not sure when he was driving by but for brunch it can fill up you really would like to make a reservation I think. Stuff is nice, the food came quick it was hardy and tasted delicious. Was it pushing the price point like someone else complained? I don't think so I've seen places that charge more for less. Will I be back? I have been and I got the same thing cuz I like to so much

They packed the cake in a beautiful box and thankfully it was on a sturdy bottom so it didn't move during the delivery and looked so good! The cake itself was very good, a lot of strawberries with the whipping cream and cake were not too sweet so it balanced with the natural sweetness of the strawberries very well! It was also very light which was great as we had activities planned. We ordered it the day before and the cake tasted great the next day so easy to store leftovers. Would be interested in going to the store and trying more things in the future.
