I hadn't had fish and chips in a while and only recently noticed that Halibut House opened up recently near the Walmart by Vaughan City Hall. The restaurant is spacious and is currently open for dine-in. However, I came in to order for take out. There are specials on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. On Sunday and Monday, the haddock and chips are $11. On Wednesdays, the cod and chips are $12. After you order and pay, you're given a pager and can go and wait in your car until the pager goes off. I observed that the wait staff here and the cashier know how to wear masks. The cooks on the other hand do not and there was one kitchen staff who walked into the main restaurant area with a chin mask. The food was piping hot. It fogged up my car window as I drove home. I didn't realize how big the haddock was going to be until I got home. It's huge. It was perfectly battered. The fish was flaky but also juicy. The fried batter was light and crispy. The fries on the other hand were a little soggy. But I really enjoyed the fish, which was the star of the show.

New location freshly opened Feb 8. There is a large parking lot with easy access to the store. The staff here is very friendly even with the rush of dine in and take out. I took advantage of the BOGO half price fish and chips (no seafood plates) and tried the Halibut and Chips. The fish and fries were freshly prepared and well cooked. The fish was moist with a nice crunch batter and the fries were double fried for a nice crunch exterior with a fluffy centre that paired perfectly with malt vinegar. The staff be it front of house to the chefs at the back crafting up the yummy goodness are masters of their craft. Will visit to try out the other fish offerings and even the combo platters (breakfast maybe a stretch for a person that enjoys sleeping in)

Was too hungry, forgot to snap a photo of the actual food!

Great new spacious spot for fish and chips! We tried both the Cod and Halibut, and both were fresh and delicious. I do prefer the Cod as it is more on the flaky side, but that's a personal preference. Pairs great with the large cut fries! Very efficient and friendly service as well. They are running a buy one get one 50% off promo for the month of February, so get it while you can.

The service was amazing. You have to be a fish person because the haddock was very fishy taste and smell. I did not enjoy it but it was fresh cooked and crispy. The fries were decent and quite large. The seasoning overall was missing which I understand is to be expected from a fish and chips. Cost per person around $25 overall a 2/5

The fish pieces are HUGE and well breaded, very good value for money. One piece is really as large as two pieces and like a small fish. The family sized fries really feeds like 8 people easily. They have some salads too if you want veggies. One of the best spots in the GTA

Excuse the colours in the photos as any dietician would cringe but that's just what fish and chips are! A rare outing for me, decided to hit up a fish and chips (right before London, UK at that) and found this place a good one. Halibut was fresh and the Greek salad was refreshing. Would have reached another level for a little more of a home-touch--lets say homemade tartar sauce, for instance.

I don't know how this place is up and running. They scam prices and food is bland. I came to pick up fish and chips for my lunch break. Customer service is not welcoming. Server did not greet as you walk in. When it came to settling the bill I asked why the price is not the 'everyday special' as it says on their Menu online. She said it's only a specific fish. In this case they should be clarifying and asking customers on the phone. They ASSUMED my order. I did not ask for a specific fish. I ordered 'fish and chips'. Food did not have any salt. You do not get lemon wedges for fish and coleslaw is not included. It's extra, if you would like it as a side.

I ordered 2 of their specials (Haddock and chips including a pop) for $12.50 + tax each. I was a little hesitant about the haddock being fishy? And was debating on paying more and getting their halibut. I was worried sick all the way home. But Upon eating the haddock, I was truly genuinely surprised at how good it was. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between this and halibut which is saying a lot about fish and chips. When my food was done, I saw the cook ( a lady ) and it was the same one from my previous visits a long time ago. Oh boy, I hope they don't change as the lady cook is a keeper! I know that this place was up for sale a while back and that is why I was hesitant to come here recently. But, after seeing that the cook is the same, I will be sure to make a few more visits and into my regular rotation of take out food. To all the yelpers out there. This is by far the best haddock I've tried and is comparable to halibut at a portion of the price. It's an easy recommendation.

Portions are generous and the coleslaw and fries are amazing and complete the fish so well. I can eat just a plateful of their fries. Service is great, all the servers are so incredibly nice and friendly. It is always packed at lunch & dinner. Def a local favourite because everyone there knows each other. We tried the haddock, halibut and breaded shrimp! I wish I could have shared more photos, but when the plates are brought to the table I can't resist digging in right away! The menu options are great where you can get 3 pieces of haddock or halibut with 2 orders of fries. Lots of parking and plenty of seating inside. Takeout orders are 5% off. The menu is great with so many options! We first tried Joy's 6 weeks ago - we have been back almost every week since our first visit. When it's time to pay they give you a scratch card with your receipt - everyone is a winner. To redeem the card, spend $35 on your next visit for the free item. Some of the items you can scratch and win are , haddock & fries, halibut & fries, Joys feast special, large plate of fries. I'm sure there are more as these are just the items we have won. The fish and chips are solid choices and they live up to their name. A good amount of chips that come with the meal. I think for the price we were a bit disappointed by the quantity of the calamari and for the chicken souvlaki, a bit sad looking (see pic) and not as flavourful or just below par. Definitely skip the souvlaki here and get what they're known for. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant. However, we just ordered for takeout.

I said ok no problem Upon my food arriving it was pretty small ( look at pic). And I would have given a 1 star review But I must say the halibut (even though miniature in size) was actually crispy and flavourful and even though I didn't take a picture, the fish was pretty thick. Therefore my reason for 3 stars. Also, the fries were not quite right for a fish and chips shoppe. Either they were frozen or they were re-cooked for too long and they were hard, bland and tasteless. I will still keep my review at 3 stars. But I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Sorry, hope they can do better for other patrons.

Ordered the fish and chips obviously - one haddock and one cod. Upgraded my side to their chowder and we got a side of mushy peas. I have absolutely no complaints because i think they do it right. Chips are fresh cut fries and the fish is battered well- not oily and super crispy. We got to chat with our waitress who told us they're pretty particular with the fish they bring into the store and after eating it i believe it. We also had some leftover to take home. I need to try the Orange roughy one of these days when they have it in, because it's not everyday you see that as an option. Would definitely recommend checking this place out!
