Haddock & Chips $12.99 (Monday Special) - 2024-04-15
David C.

This Halibut House Fish & Chips location is very spacious with lots of seating. The decor is simple and casual. The restaurant is clean. I went on around 2:30 pm. and ordered their Monday Special of Haddock & Chips ($12.99). The waitress, while polite enough, didn't appear to want to be there or was having an off day. I felt a bit rushed when ordering, and she didn't follow up with me during my meal. She had 3 other tables at the time. I've been to this location many times and think the food is consistently average good. The fish portion is good. The batter is light, and the fish moist. The fries are a hit or miss for me. Sometimes, it's really crispy on the outside and potatoey on the inside. Sometimes, the outside is hard and dryish on the inside. The coleslaw is vinegarette based and is decent. They provide a homemade tartar sauce when dining in and give you packets for takeout. I come here for convenience as the food is OK and close by. But it will never replace "Hamish's Kitchen Restaurant - Fish & Chips" as my goto... My 2 cents

Sad to say that I did not come out happy with my dining experience. The service was good as well as the restaurant's cleanliness. It was the value for food that got me disappointed. What we ordered was the Shrimp & scallop combo ($18.95) and the Fish tacos (3 pcs for $9.95). Even more than what can be expected, both dishes tasted quite the same fried, battery taste. There were also way too much fries in the Shrimp & scallop combo meal. For the total price we paid versus what we had in terms of taste & portion sizes, it was not something I can recommend for everyone.

-Very clean - The sauces are really kept in the fridge as they are cool to the touch when they serve the sauces -The food are really fresh

This is a decent breakfast spot. Great customer service on a Saturday morning. Had the blueberry pancakes served with potatoes (not fresh). Washrooms were super clean. They have an accessibility one separate from the gendered washrooms. Not too busy on a Saturday morning and the only place in a larger radius for breakfast.

Not usually in this area for breakfast but was glad to see a 'chain' that I was familiar with. I wrote a review 2 days ago regarding their other location on Hwy7/Ninth specifying that the peameal bacon portion was too little. I said I'd go back, and I did. This location on danforth is renovated. It's got a lot of the branding in the tile work on the walls and it is nice. Grabbed a seat and ordered the two egg breakfast with home fries, regular bacon and whole wheat toast no butter. Eggs were ordered over medium. Food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time which made me happy. I punctured the egg and out flowed the beautiful yolk. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Onto the potatoes. Crispy on the outside, nice and light on the inside is how I like my home fries. This location delivered. Toast has no butter so I was happy. Bacon was meh. Honestly, I think these guys need a pork consultant. There are so many different options for bacon but how they are cooking it is just not right. Maybe it's just me. I don't like my bacon well done so maybe next time I will communicate more clearly. All in all a great experience for under $6. I will be back!!

They had a Monday special of fish and chips for around $7 which i couldn't say no to. The fish was huge which was great because it also became my lunch the next day. It tasted good. The batter wasn't heavy or too greasy. There were lots of fries too, but they did not taste fresh. Service was pretty fast and impersonal... kind of reminding me of McDonald cashiers.

We came here for an early dinner with a coupon. Lunch sized Halibut fish and chips with cole slaw was $15 for 2. This was a good price. It was tasty. We also ordered fish chowder at regular price of $3.95 each.We found it a bit expensive. The soup tasted good but it was not warm enough. The place was nice, spacious and clean. Staffs were friendly.

The plate is a regular size plate from kids menu. my 9 year old couldnt finish it all. Came with an adult size beverage as well. $8.

Clean and decent food. Kids fish and chips is generously sized for less than $8 and comes with a drink. Great deal, none of my older kids were able to finish. The staff was friendly despite my baby making huge mess of her food. Adult potions are pretty good as well. Batter was tasty and not too thick or oily. Fries were above average. Would definitely come back.

Food: 4 Stars Service: 4 Stars…read moreAmbience: 4 Stars Fill Factor: Filling I have passed by this restaurant many times over the years but never really paid much attention to it as the storefront did not stand out. However me and my partner had a craving for some breakfast food so decided to give this a shot. The short story is that this is a nice little breakfast place with solid food and great service. I ordered a classic breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, toast and home fries while my partner ordered the pancakes. My breakfast was solid. It wasn't anything mind blowing but everything tasted as it should and overall I really enjoyed it. My partner's pancakes were really good though. The portions were larger than I anticipated and they were so fluffy. This is definitely what I plan to order the next time I come here. Service was great as the server was friendly, the food came fairly quickly and the server checked up on us regularly. No complaints from me on this front. The restaurant is not overly large but has a decent amount of seating. It was bright and inviting as their window at the front of the shop is fairly large. There was seating along the window so we decided to sit there as the sun was beaming into the shop that day and it was great. All in all, this is a nice local breakfast spot that I would easily recommend as everything from the food, service and atmosphere was great. Give it a try.

Was warmly greeted by Christopher and was told to sit anywhere I desired. Was provided menu's and took our beverage order. The menu is quite the spread and reasonably priced! Settled on the Farmers (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 proteins, home fries and tomato or fruit salad) When I was presented the food, the smell was amazing! The food was prepared to perfection and the pancakes... OMG... they were light, fluffy and oh so yummy. If you are a fan of the proper home fries (read: NOT fried) - you will be in heaven! The vibe here is amazing and wondering why I did not discover this gem earlier! Come by, say hi to Christopher and crew and enjoy a wonderfully crafted meal.

We were pleasantly surprised to see that they have a sidewalk patio that's enclosed so we chose to sit out there. Service was friendly, kind and thoughtful - they even had colouring/activity sheets for the kids. We decided to get their Big Boca which had some of everything including pancakes or French toast. It was BIG. We got two to share among all four of us and it was plenty. The coffee is bottomless (yay!) and the neighbourly vibe was great. There was a steady flow of people and I got the feeling they're quite the staple in the neighbourhood. We'll be back to try their bennies/omelettes! Check em out over the franchised spots!

I stopped by in a recent visit to Toronto when it made more sense to wait for my wife than to drive back and forth from our hotel in Mississauga amidst... hey did you know that (unscientific as this may be) traffic may actually be worst on weekends than during the week? Reason is that, while many folks commute using public transit, car owners drive to their destinations on weekends. This is a small, sun-shiny kind of space, with Wifi. The front part, especially, is a good place to bask in the rays. They seem to offer a few food choices for breakfast and lunch, but since I was just looking for a place to hang out for 90 minutes, I was going to be "minimal patron". I thought about another coffee, but decided against it, since I already had double the caffeine I usually consume before noon, I opted for the "cheapest" choice, in the form of a Perrier. Cha-ching and "ouch" and $3.74 later (OK it's CAD, but still), I'm left wondering whether I could have made a better choice: as in, a cookie and that bottle of water I had with me?

It's the food that was just meh. Stopped by for lunch and got: - Korean Pancakes: Prepackaged, it still was pretty good (i.e., didn't just taste reheated). The dipping sauce accentuated the sweetness of the pancakes. - Bulgogi Bibimbap: Bulgogi was really bland and a tad dry, so had to put a lot of gochujang on the bibimbap. - Bulgogi Japchae: Agaìn, band and dry bulgogi. The japchae was good - soft and sweet. Also, generous serving that is shareable. - Mango Banana Smoothie: A bit lumpy, and more mango than banana. But great for a hot summer day. Maybe it's the bakery stuff we should have tried, because everyone is raving about this place. The meals were just ok.

A medium-sized side order of kimchi 2. Korean pancake 3. Bulgogi bibimbap 4. Bulgogi japchae 5. Bagel with bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato And of course, 6. A small matcha latte. I thought that the medium was a pretty good portion of kimchi. Probably enough for 3-4 people to share it as a side dish. The korean pancake was very yummy, especially when paired with the dipping sauce. I liked that both the bibimbap and japchae had a good amount of veggies. I found the bulgogi just a tiny bit dry. The bagel was panini pressed which was nice but it did toast up the lettuce which wilted it. The rest of the toppings were really good. The one thing I really didn't care for was the matcha latte. It was so sweet I didn't think I'd be able to finish it. The other thing is that it hardly tasted of matcha. The latte itself was pretty much white. That kind of told me that it wasn't mixed well and just didn't have any matcha in it. I'd skip this on my next UberEats order.
