Wow wow wow wow!!!! I live around the neighbourhood and just found out about this place. And I never knew about this till I walked around my neighbourhood looking for food one night with my family. The decor is bland and again, these mom and pop shops aren't known for their decors. We are here for the food. I ordered a fish and chip and it came out fresh and piping hot. Not too burnt but very crispy. The boss lady came by to check in on us and it's nice to connect with small businesses around the corner in the neighbourhood. Her service is personable and just friendly. read more

Not a bad fish and chips spot. It's actually pretty good. I ordered the halibut and it was nice and tender, white and the batter was nice and light and crispy. I would have liked the fries to be hand cut. I think they were frozen but to each restaurant their own. The price was very reasonable for a halibut fish and chips. The service was amazing. The 2 waitress that served me were very fast and efficient. Which a 25% tip was deserving. The only down side was the decor and ambiance. The inside and furnishings were a bit on the old and used too much side. I would recommend they do some renovations to spruce the place up. I would also recommend all yelpers and patrons to try this spot as the halibut fish and chips are worth the visit and money. Side note: I didn't try any of the other fishes like cod and haddock so no comment on those. read more

My Place Fish & Chips - Halibut fish and chips. Halibut is on point but the fries would be better if homemade. - Fish & Chips Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

I enjoyed the halibut Les oily than other restaurants The fry's l felt were a little bland had to put extra malt vinegar on top. The restaurant is very outdated Service good. Give it a 8 out of 10. read more

Located in a strip mall along Victoria park, we've always passed by here and wanted to try. Well, we got the chance when we were craving some fish and chips. Everything seemed to be made fresh and hot, nicely wrapped in paper to absorb excess oil. Food: Fish has a light batter, not too oily nor too salty. Not my favorite batter but it's not too bad. Halibut - this would be my recommendation if you're only going to try one type of fish here. The firmness and freshness works well with the outer breading. My only complaint is it's fairly thin and small pieces. Haddock - a classic choice with a flakier meat. I thought this was okay as well but prefer halibut for an extra 75 cents. Garoupa - this was the lunch special. Not sure if I'd order this again. I felt it was flavorless and mushy in the inside. Maybe pass on this one. Shrimp - pretty decent size and flavorful - would get again. Scallop - surprisingly decent size and also flavorful - also would get again. Fries - pretty average. Thick cut, thin crispness on the outside and soft inside. Pretty bad if you let them start going lukewarm/cold - like really bad. Condiments - everything comes in mass produced little packets so don't expect anything fancy with the tartar sauce. Price: For fish and chips, it's on the budget side price wise which is nice. Summary: Average fish and chips for a budget. Worth having to feed that craving. read more

I would give the food here a solid 4 stars. Really good fish and chips. There is actual flavour and seasoning to the chips and fish instead of just being fried. The interior leaves a lot to be desired so I would personally recommend getting takeout. The service is quick but basic. read more

You can just feel the local love for this place. Family owned and super quaint on the inside, lots of customers coming for pickup orders. We dined in, and it was a great experience. Old-fashioned diner vibes with bright orange seated booths and little heritage hangings everywhere. Adds to the cozy atmosphere. The food was pretty good! We ordered onion rings, haggis, and a halibut platter (comes with halibut, scallops, shrimp and chips). Pretty sure they batter everything with the same batter, but I'm not complaining because it is a damn good batter. Onion rings were great, good batter to onion ratio. Was a little surprised that the haggis also came fried, but it was still decent! The platter was also tasty and came with seafood sauce. My only complaint is that the halibut was a bit dry, but other than that everything was good. Chips were nice and thick cut. They also give you a squeeze bottle of their tartar sauce, which has a good amount of tartness. read more

It's been a few years since I've visited My Place fish and chips. I use to frequent once a week when mom was alive but when Covid hit everything changed. Anyways we had a fish fry craving and decided to again visit this restaurant. Happy to see the same owners are still present. Decor hasn't changed. We opted for the halibut and chips. Chips are still 'real' potatoes, halibut portion was decent (certainly larger than what is served across the street at Halibut House). Batter was thin and crispy. Overall a well cooked and enjoyable meal. Pricing has increased slightly but less than most of the other fish and chips places. Service friendly. Worth a visit when in the area. read more

A cozy family owned and operated restaurant that had been around for more than 16 years. They have tons of regulars and they are very casual and friendly. The last time I tried was taken out and tastes amazing, just a lot longer wait due to Good Friday holiday. The portion is very good for both type of fish we ordered Halibut and Haddock, very fresh and meaty. They are with a very light and crunch batter and not greasy. Along with the platter has 4 shrimps which are good size too. But for the scallop I would say it's just okay, nothing special. French fries are freshly cut too and nicely done. Not so greasy as well. The place has vintage looking furniture and kept it very clean. The only thing I would suggest is the cooks should wear hair nets. That's all. read more

This place came highly recommended and so I was keen to try it. I finally made it in for lunch today. This is a great family run business and the owners were very courteous and friendly. Service was excellent as well. I ordered the haddock and black pudding and I have to say both were delicious. The batter was light and crispy. The haddock was tasty and so was the black pudding. Portion sizes were also decent - I walked away feeling very full. This was a great experience - yummy food in a family friendly atmosphere. I look forward to my next visit. read more

Went to this restaurant on a monday weekday. it is an older quaint family restaurant. the interior looks much like. so i went for their lunch special fish and chips. since this was their specialty. it is a good deal, as it is around 6 bucks after tax. The restaurant interior is one of old school diner style, so there is some comfort in that The Fish for this restuarant is not bad. however the sheer volume of oil for the fried fish and chips. is intense. I think overall the taste is fine, except that afterwards i think it was just too much oil to take in. so i would suggest anyone to get a napkin or something and place it over the fish first to suck up the oil. overall the the taste is pretty decent. The fries that came with the place. was not very flavourful. it was bland, i suppose the point was that it was to match the fish since the fish is very much oily and heavy tasting. Overall, for the price it was a decent meal, and the portions was good. it was not the best fish and chips i have ever found, but if your around the area and have a craving it could be a good place to go since it is affordable. read more

This place serves fish and chips. When you walk in, you'll see a lot of old memorabilias. I heard that it used to be run by a white family and they retired so now a chinese family runs this place. If you want to try this place at a reasonable price, you must get their lunch special. The batter is perfectly crusted and it comes with fries. They will also give you packets of tartar sauce to use when you eat your filet. The place is old but that's the charm of it. You are transformed into being on a seaside nova scotia restaurant in the heart of toronto. You will find a lot of old seniors here eating their fish and chips. read more

Do you ever recall being in school and just managing to squeeze into the classroom door right before the school bell goes off? Or the feeling of watching a Raptors game and Kawhi makes a game winning basket right before the buzzer? I'm not here to say that the quality of food here is giving me that same type of rush but I'm just saying that at least there's a tiny part of me that was doing an internal fist pump when I walked into this restaurant at 2:55pm and just managed to order their daily grouper and chips special for $7.99 (daily special goes from 11am-3pm). At most fish and chips places I think I would typically order halibut or sole but I saw the sign outside the restaurant and decided to go economy class today. I was impressed with the portion. The fish was as long as a yellow ruler and there was a good amount of fries. For $7.99 you can't complain. The fish is definitely not grouper and is probably the mystery fish of the day but it actually tasted pretty ok. The fish did not have a strong taste but the bonus is it doesn't have any weird grassy taste either, like a lot of frozen basa filets. The batter was actually quite ok and was on the light airy side. The oil can be soaked up a bit better but again I'm not being picky here at this price point. The fries however is quite disappointing as I couldn't finish them. The fries were made with the cheapest potatoes and had no distinct potato taste and they seem to use a different oil for the fries versus the fish. You can see the fries being several tones darker than the fish which means the oil have been reused many times. If you have a choice then save yourself some calories and go without the fries. If you are looking for a budget fish and chips place, it's an option that may satisfy your cravings. But I wouldn't expect much. The dining area looks a bit dated and the washroom is not the most well kept either. This will not be 'my place' if I'm longing for some fish and chips. read more

Good fish and chips, I always get their lunch special. Grouper fish and chips for $6.25 as of March 29th 2018. The decor is a little old but their food is always solid. Their halibut and chips is also good but costs more at $11.50 read more

This place seems like a family-run business - which I can usually get behind! The menu has 3 types of fish, shrimp, and scallops. Maybe a few other things, but bottom line is super yummy. Waitress/server/owner(?) was really friendly and willing to explain the fish options. Great price and you can opt for a fewer amount of chips. read more

We got the haddock and the halibut and I tried both. They were both good and reliable but nothing to get excited about. It tasted exactly as expected. The fish wasn't oily and had a good level of crispiness. The fries were kinda boring but I've noticed that with a lot of fish and chips places. The fries are thicker cut than usual and not as crispy as a result. They'd be okay hot with a good sauce but they were hard to eat on their own. There is ketchup on the table for fans of ketchup but I'm not one of them unfortunately. I also got the coleslaw which tasted exactly like how coleslaw usually tastes, again nothing special. Finally, there was the milkshake. It was only $4 which is great value but it wasn't the greatest milkshake. It tasted a little diluted but I can imagine many people enjoying a lighter, less flavour explosive milk shake. My last comments will be on service which was super speedy and courteous. The ambience was also fun and befitting with bucket seats and lots of UK paraphernalia. I'm giving this place a 3 because although it was nothing to write home about, it met my expectations of fish and chips but had good value and service. read more

Found this place on Yelp. Delicious melt in your mouth fish and chips. Ordered haddock and chips, shrimp & chips and onion rings. I have been coming to this place for years. I've always loved the food. The halibut and chips were always delicious and the price was amazing for the size of the portions. Unfortunately, now the fish is very thin, the fries were dry and the prices are quite high for what you receive. The service is still great though. This is not my favourite place anymore, sadly. read more

Very oily and thick breading. Parking very limited as it is a street plaza on a very road.

Wow, these guys know what is what and that what is fish and chips. Went there on good Friday and of course there was a long lineup. Waited for pickup for about 40 min, which is normal for good Friday. It was still worth the wait. Staff was very happy and busy and tried to make everyone happy even though there was a lot of everyones. Will come here again, and again. read more

Food: 3 stars This review is mainly for the lunch special. I got it for take-out and when I opened my paper bag of fish and chips, I was pleasantly surprised at 2 large pieces of fish and lots of chips (fries). The first few bites were absolutely amazing. Salty, crispy, batter...MMM MMM goooood. However, after I've finished about 3/4 of my first piece of fish, I got kind of sick of eating batter. There really wasn't very much fish; it was a thin fillet with a thick shell of batter. Then again, you're only paying a little over $6 so at that price, it's alright. No substitutions allowed for the lunch special. Ambiance: 3 stars Diner layout. Simple and maybe ever so slightly dingy? Old-fashioned in a cute way. Mixed feelings about the place to be honest. Service: 3 stars Got take-out but the the waitress/cashier & cooks were very nice. read more

Really a great place for fish and chips. The batter is crispy but not oily. The fish is perfectly seasoned and the flesh has a great consistency. The fries are fine but I really preferred their onion rings. They were also crunchy and flavorful. This is one of the best places I've had fish 'n' chips. We stumbled across this hidden gem through on-line reviews and certainly were not disappointed. The fish was outstanding and fresh, the haggis was also amazing. The service was also very good and courteous - not expected in a casual place like this. It also featured old time UK memorabilia and as mentioned haggis, and mushy peas. The price was also amazing ($6.50 for grouper fish 'n' chips from 1100-1500 hrs, $1 extra after hours) and is one of the best places one can find this part of town. Reason it did not get 5-stars: 1. fries were only so-so; 2. place looked quite dated and in need of some repair - but I didn't come here for ambience; 3. the tartar/malt vinegar came in bulk in plastic containers However in spite of that I still give it thumbs up and 4-4.5 stars because the fish (Haddock, grouper) outshines its imperfections Highly recommended for a simple meal - and will no doubt return. read more

I've eaten at My Place dozens of times over the years, but it's been quite a while since I've been there. This is for no other reason than convenience, as I've relatively recently relocated, and so this isn't any longer as close by as it used to be. Feeling nostalgic though, a couple of friends and I decided we had to make the drive to get our fish and chips fix, and I'm very glad we did. First off, the staff here are great. The same family has been running this place for years, and even though it's been quite some time since we'd been here, they greeted us like long lost friends, and made every effort to make us feel welcome. The food itself is still really good. In all honesty, I'd say my fish was a tiny bit over cooked, but it was still delicious, and it still had the same light and flaky batter I remember. And the fries were just how I like them. Thick cut, and cooked perfectly. I'm not a tartar sauce user, but one of my friends loves the stuff, and since last time we were here the staff have started making their own. They still carry the packaged stuff, so anyone can use whatever their preference is, but try both if that's your thing. Apparently they are both very different. The only thing I find a little difficult about coming here is the parking. Nothing to do with the restaurant, but frustrating nonetheless. They're located in a busy little plaza, with 4 other restaurants, a salon, a bank, and a few other businesses. And for all of them there are only about 70 parking spaces. Be patient and you'll get a spot; but it can take some time and a good eye. read more

4 stars go to the halibut and chips I had the other day. Lightly battered and evenly coated to perfection; devoured alone. Chips were ok. My late wife of 53 years loved this fish and chips restaurant we had eaten seafood from NL to Naples, Italy but the feeling of being served and waited on was beyond compare. EEEKKK. I have a second opinion about the 4 star food everyone seem to rave about. Halibut is usually the most expensive type of fish most places offer so you would expect to pay top dollars for quality (even if its only 12$) . I was really happy when they placed 2 pieces of fried fish on my plate. But soon disappointed when I discovered 70% of each piece is batter and fish itself merely thicker than a piece of paper. Quite disappointed in my last visit. I've been coming to My Place for several years before the pandemic and have always loved their fish and chips.
