Came by for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised. They make it to order and everything is super tasty. Fish and chips piping hot I think I burned myself. But service was quick and there is seating. It's not the nicest place but value was excellent and I will come try the shrimp or scallops next time. read more

Amy's Fish & Chips - Halibut and chips - Fish & Chips Near Me - Richmond Hill, Ontario

I haven't been here in like 1-2 years now and came on a whim because I was craving fish and chips. Amy's hit the hunger spot though. I ordered 2 of their specials (Haddock and chips including a pop) for $12.50 + tax each. I was a little hesitant about the haddock being fishy? And was debating on paying more and getting their halibut. I was worried sick all the way home. But Upon eating the haddock, I was truly genuinely surprised at how good it was. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between this and halibut which is saying a lot about fish and chips. When my food was done, I saw the cook ( a lady ) and it was the same one from my previous visits a long time ago. Oh boy, I hope they don't change as the lady cook is a keeper! I know that this place was up for sale a while back and that is why I was hesitant to come here recently. But, after seeing that the cook is the same, I will be sure to make a few more visits and into my regular rotation of take out food. To all the yelpers out there. This is by far the best haddock I've tried and is comparable to halibut at a portion of the price. It's an easy recommendation. read more

I always get good halibut fish at this location. Its always fried crispy and the people are very polite and welcoming. Thank you!

Nice mom & pop business, 2 owners/staff we're friendly and accommodating. Ordered 2 lunch specials (cod or haddock), fries & pop $9.95. Great deal as fries are generous and one large fish portion. A slight wait as fish/fries are cooked to order. Fish has a nice light tempura like batter which compliments the fish. Fries were hand cut and not the frozen variety As usually, why is it only a small portion of tartar sauce given verses the amount of fish, must be a conspiracy amongst all the fish & chip restaurants to limit the amount of tartar sauce given to customers. They did have malt vinegar & ketchup on the tables though. Very pleasant lunch and value for your money read more

Finally got to try this place! Came on Monday and realized they were closed! So glad we were able to try again! After reading about them and having a craving for fish & chips this place was on our radar! Came here for lunch today around 2pm on a Friday! Love their lunch special! $10.95 includes a drink! You also get a choice of cod & chips (my fave!), haddock & chips (my bf got that one) or Halibut on a bun & chips! I loved my cod it was nice and tender and soft! While the haddock had a more firmer texture and also flaky in its own way! We weren't sure which was which but I liked the cod best while my boyfriend preferred the haddock! Also if you pay cash it's 10% off! Looking forward to coming back on a regular basis whenever we crave fish & chips! Took one star off coz the tartare sauce was soooo minuscule. Definitely not enough for the fish & chips! Otherwise would be 5 star place for sure! read more

Like many other Small family fish n chip restaurant, decor needs a bit of updating. Otherwise the food is not bad. The Haddock I ordered is a medium size piece filet, but the batter is not very thoroughly covered. The home fries is good size portion, enough carb to fill you up. The combo comes with a pop, for the price of $12 including tax, you can't complaint. Maybe it's because I came at 4pm, with no other customers in the restaurant, most of the lights are dimmed, making the place feels more run down. I rated it 3.5 stars, because of ambience I round it down to 3 stars. read more

I was brought here by a new coworker, as I was on a quest to find a new fish n' chips spot by my new office. What a find this is! They have very reasonable prices for a great piece of fish. I think a piece of Halibut and Chips is about $13, and it's about 4oz of fish. It's a bit on the small side, but I'd rather pay this price point for a bit less fish and yummy chips to get the experience instead of $20 for a few more bites. I want to try the cod next, that is what my friend got and that piece was substantial looking. The chips are pretty good, general "chips" you'd expect from a place like this. I think I'll ask for mine to be well done next time...that would make them perfect! This is a small, family run place and they are friendly and accommodating. I'm happy that I found a new spot on my first try! I've been back many times since, and this place is just consistently good. read more

Been here once for opening as well as recently. Gotta say I'm impressed that they maintained quality all this time. Ordered the Halibut Meal for 2 for ~$25 and it was enough. The fish is cooked really well and since it's not very salty or strong, I can actually finish all of the fries without feeling like I need a coke to wash all the sodium down. The fish is crisp on the outside yet surprisingly soft and fluffy on the inside, makes for a rather satisfying bite each time. Fries are pretty average, no complaints here. There aren't too many seats so be wary of that. Service is prompt and friendly overall. Lots of parking in the plaza as well. Don't forget to check in on Yelp for the extra 10% off, which is really the icing on top. If you haven't tried this place before, give it a shot, it's great food at reasonable prices. read more

Fish & chips | Limited seating | No alcohol license Small restaurant seats about 30. If you check in with Yelp will give you10% off coupon when you check in and dine in. No liquor license so no beer with your fish and chips. Simple menu with fish, chips, shrimp, scallop, souvlaki and more. Ran by Chinese (Cantonese speaking) couple. Portions sizes are lunch portions. The fish pieces are the center palm of my hand, unlike western fish and chip restaurants where it's a long steak size. Service is moderately slow. But the frying quality is worth the wait. The fish were crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. The scallop was the same. Their salad dressings are limited to Italian, french, thousand Island and Caesar. Overall it's a good place for a quick lunch. read more

I have always been a fan of fish n chips. Saw this place nearby with a high rating and decided to check it out. So I'm curious in checking this out. Ordered their daily special. My opinion is their uses less salt maybe? Than other fish n chips restaurants. The fish is nice and crispy, but would personally prefer more flavor and seasoning. The chips (fries) are OK. read more

Fish and chips always on point. Good service and friendly service. Strongly recommend.

Amy's Fish & Chips is probably the best in the neighbourhood. Nice and friendly owner. And good solid food and a great price. I love how light and crispy my Haddock was. The fish still nice and moist. My chips though was a mix of cold and warm. Probably because half of that was not freshly fried. Amy was nice enough to offer to make us more fresh fries after we brought that to her attention. Their special probably the best deal since it comes with a drink too! read more

Been reading the reviews in the area and decided upon Amy's. Simple, straightforward and good, Amy's has the hallmarks of a great fish 'n chips shop. On a quiet Sunday afternoon we decided to stop in for a quick bite, just before the evening rush. We ordered a one piece halibut and another with 5 shrimps. The fish was fresh, the batter light and not greasy which one might expect. There was a nice smidge of tartar sauce, coleslaw and a wedge of lemon. The quality was good, the service efficient and attentive. From a price point perspective, it is about $10.00 for the one piece, $12.00 with the shrimp and all in was $26.00. for checking in, we received a 10% discount which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, I agree with the majority of the reviews in terms of location, value and price. Maybe a bit of a larger portion on the one piece would be nice, but would likely order the 4 piece next time! Good job! read more

I really wanted to eat fish and chips that day. I was by Yonge and Elgin Mills and we spotted "York Fish & Chips" as we are finishing up our cigrette a nice eldery man stopped and chatted explained how last Sunday he wanted to eat here and unfortunately they were closed on Sunday's and referred us to Amy's Fish & Chips that was close by; he explained to us how now he is a regular customer at Amy's, I am so glad for his input because we did go to Amy's Fish & Chips and I dont regret our decision. I am actually glad York Fish & Chips by Elgin Mills was closed because I was forced to go there to eat knowing I already didnt like the taste of the food at that location. Amys Fish & Chips family restaurant is a cozy atmosphere and the young male waiter is very friendly and polite, Amy came out to take our order (Halibut for 2) she was super friendly and knows how to make a great crispy batter. The food came out quick and the taste was deliciously amazing and the portion was a good size. I will diffently be returning and will recommend Amy's fish and chips to family and friends the price is great and the staff is excellent. Thank you for the delicious meal on Sunday read more

It's ranked one of the top 3 places for Fish & Chips (in Richmond Hill) for a reason. Thankfully when it comes to fish, it's not hard to find dining companions. We visited over the weekend and this place did not disappoint. The laid back, casual atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The menu is pretty standard for a fish and chip place, they have cod, Haddock and Halibut either breaded or grilled and served with salad and/or fries. We all ordered halibut (some grilled, some breaded). The breading was light and fluffy. Not overly oily as you sometimes get with breaded fish. Fish was light and flaky. The feedback on the grilled was that it was slightly saltier than the diners liking but overall fresh and great quality. The vegetables in the salad were fresh and generous. The fries were (again!) not oily and crispy. Price point was reasonable. The pieces of fish aren't huge so some of us would order two pieces next time. This place is worth the drive. It's small, casual, humble and the food is delicious! No wonder it's loved. read more

This is my go-to place for fish and chips. Not that other places are not good, but that this is conveniently near shopping and the Richmond Green Park across the street. The food has never been a disappointment, and I'm sure Amy would give me extra tartar sauce if I asked for it when dining in. Hmmm, I'm getting a craving now.... :) read more

We were in the area and decided to give this place a try after reading such high reviews. I was a little skeptical at first (we were the only customers at 3PM on a Sunday) but giving this place a try ended up being the best decision we made. We ordered the halibut meal for two which came with four pieces of fish, fries and a side of coleslaw. The perfect portion. The fish was crispy and a perfect mix of batter and fish. In the words of my bf: "this is the best fish and chips I've had in a while, everything on this dish tastes good!" Honestly, I have to agree with him. It was delicious and I'm glad I gave this place a try. Would definitely return to this hidden gem if I'm in the area again. read more

I love fish and chips, so when I saw this mom and pop shop on yelp with such a high rating, I had to drive out of my way to check it out. I'm glad I did! Ordered the Haddock one piece special for $8.95 which includes a drink. I must say, it was incredibly delicious! It reminded me of the high quality fish and chips I had while in Maldives for my honeymoon. It was that good! The fish was a generous portion, perfectly cooked and wasn't dry inside, and the batter was light and crispy. I can't find this experience anywhere around here except for St Lawrence Market downtown. The fish was served on a bed of fries... a ton of fries! These fries are crispy on the outside, and very potatoey on the inside. There's vinegar and malt on the side to dress them up, too. Coleslaw was top notch as well. Not too acidic and not too creamy. It was perfect to my taste. Lastly, the tartar sauce was just the right amount and really enhanced the fish. The service was friendly and made me feel right at home. If you love fish and chips, you gotta check this place out! Ps there is lots of free parking in the plaza lot. read more

Terrific little spot. Great friendly service and decent prices! We loved their haddock, halibut, fried shrimp, and poutine. Light crispy and fresh. The family sets are very good value. The shrimps were a tad on the greasier side, but we know we'll be coming back again and again! read more

SOLID. Ordered the Family of 3 pack of Halibut (6 pieces, 2 fries) and it fed 4 of us perfectly. Great price point too only $39.99. Excellent value. We also ordered the shrimp which was full of flavor. Batter for the fish and shrimp is light and not greasy. Service is fast! Drove 25 minutes to get here and it was well worth it. They pack the fish separately from the fries, so nothing was soggy and items where still crispy when I got home. Would return for sure! And likely order extra shrimp too! :) read more

We have recently moved to the neighborhood and this place is within walking distance. I did a stroller walk with my baby to Amy's Fish & Chip for lunch at 3pm. The location was easy to find. There was one person eating inside when I arrived since it was raining. The place was clean and quiet. It looks like a small family restaurant for dine-in & take-out. You just sit yourself and order at the counter. The server attended to me before I sat down which was very nice of him. I ordered the daily special which was one piece of cod or haddock & chips + one can of pop for $8.85. Comes to $10 after taxes. The food came very quickly and it was nice and hot. The portion was big enough for me. The homemade fries was thick and the batter on the cod was very crispy! One of the best fish & chips I've tried. 5 stars well deserved! read more

Where to go for Fish and Chips? Hmmmm....Allencourt? Their OK but I find it to be a bit too heavy and greasy. Fry Basket - nope...got way too expensive for some reason. Flip the YelpApp and boom, Amy's shows up and reviewed by many of my Yelpie-Friends. Did the read and off we went. $8.50 for haddock or cod - fish and chips. They also had a halibut sandwich for the same price. What a special - it included a pop too! Wait...maybe it's not good! Maybe the portions are really small and the fish is off! Nope! It's a good serving of food. Absolutely surprised. The lady there - I'm assuming it's Amy was busy working away on some paperwork when we got there. A young lad was at the till and we ordered up a haddock and a cod. Also got a Halibut and Chips too. Try all their wares at once...see what we like...right?!? We sat down and Amy went off to do her thing. In no time, we had perfectly golden and crispy battered fish with a good amount of chips. A sprinkle of salt, a splash of vinegar and everything was done in no time. Amy runs a good clean ship here. The young lad was very efficient and polite. Definitely a repeat place and my go to for F&C. My favourite place for F&C was off the coast of Newfoundland, on a small island, but that's a bit far to go so Amy's it is. Cheers! read more

I recently got take out here and it was pretty good. I ordered the halibut dinner for 3 and it tasted very good. I didn't experience the old fryer oil taste as one of a recent reviewer mentioned. They prepared the fish & chips very quickly (it's all battered to order) and it was perfectly fried and not oily. The fries are the traditional thick-cut fries that take salt & vinegar perfectly which is just fine by me. The only criticism was that I thought the pieces of halibut were a bit on the small and thin side, but the portion size was decent. We were the only ones there for take-out during the lunch hour which is a shame as this family-run restaurant really deserve and need your business. read more

A friend mentioned to me they heard this place had good fish and chips but hadn't tried it. We pulled up on a Tuesday at approx 6:30. It wasn't busy with only one customer eating. My friend was skeptical so we decided to drive away because they were craving fish and chips but didn't want to be disappointed if it wasnt good. We were driving away when I decided to check yelp for the reviews. We decided to go back due to the tremendous favorable reviews. We were very pleased. The fish and chips were crispy without being greasy. The fish was a good full portion. The Greek salad was also tasty. Condiments included the standard ketchup, white vinegar, malt vinegar and tartar sauce. We had to ask for lemon which they had. All form of payment was accepted. read more

4.5 I love the halibut fish and chips from here! Once you've tried this, the frozen ones from the grocery store cannot compare and you won't settle for the grocery store bought version of fried fish. Amy's has a simple, clean storefront in the Starbucks plaza off Elgin Mills. It's not particularly fancy, but upon entering you feel a home-y, comfortable atmosphere filled with the aroma of freshly fried foods. They serve classic fish and chips, and execute it PERFECTLY. The fish is lightly battered but is amazingly crisp when served (even if you get take-out and bring it home, it still retains its crispiness). The fries are also great - thick cut fries that go well with the fish. They also serve cod fillets, which are great too, but I prefer the halibut. The size of the fish is also generous, and you get really great value for your meal. They also have some nice sides of coleslaw and salad which are equally as yummy to the fries as a side. It's honestly one of the best fish and chips place around. I always look forward to my visit! read more

Cannot believe I haven't tried this place and the location is close from where I live! It was 2pm Saturday and craving for some food and happen to just drove by the plaza and see this restaurant so give it try! We ordered just one item for take out and we ordered the 2 piece Halibut with chips. It comes to about $17 including tax. We called in to order and the wait is only 10 min. as soon as we got the food, we ate it immediately in the car while it's still hot! I gotta say, the 2 pieces of Halibut are freshly fried and very crunchy! and yet the fish meat inside is soft and juicy and flakey! Together with the tartar sauce, It's very yummy! And the fries are also very fresh. My wife usually tends to stay away from fries to avoid too much carbs but this time she ate most of the fries... lol! The price is not cheap but worth the money in my opinion. Definitely will be back for more. :) a thumbs up! Didn't take any pic this time but lots of existing photos from other reviewers already. :) read more

This is our second time coming to Amy's Fish and Chips. Looks like a family run business. Her son and mom hang out at he restaurant and help out from time to time. The place has been pretty quiet both times I came for lunch. In terms of food, the batter on the fish is done just right. Everything is made to order. We had the chicken wrap once and the chicken was a bit dry. Their specials of fish and chips with a drink comes to less than $10. Definitely a great deal! The decoration and furniture appear to belong to previous owners, and the lights aren't turned on during the day... so dining in wasn't too comfortable from a lack of ambience and comfortable seating. It feels much more like a fast food joint than a restaurant. The fish and chips here are definitely worth eating but we will be getting take out instead. read more

A hidden gem in Richmond Hill. Came at 5:00pm on Sunday evening, we just needed some quick dinner after reading some good reviews. I have to agree with other reviewers. This is a family restaurant, small but cozy, clean dining area and washroom. Service is very casual and friendly, just perfect for a casual quick dining for Sunday night. We ordered halibut family meal $22.95 for two, 1 piece of haddock $7.25 an its own and small Greek Salad $4.25. All very decent size, fresh and delicious, the best so far in Richmond Hill. Very good old school family owned and operated (I think) fish and chip place in Richmond Hill. I actually found them by accident when I was next door sharpening my skates. Great find! They were really busy but everyone pitched in (including their cute little boy to serve us our fries). Very fast, efficient and polite. Now the food: Very light batter and not oily when is great. We were able to substitute one of our family order fries with onion rings at no extra cost which is great. The salad was fresh and crunchy too.
