I haven't been here in like 1-2 years now and came on a whim because I was craving fish and chips. Amy's hit the hunger spot though. I ordered 2 of their specials (Haddock and chips including a pop) for $12.50 + tax each. I was a little hesitant about the haddock being fishy? And was debating on paying more and getting their halibut. I was worried sick all the way home. But Upon eating the haddock, I was truly genuinely surprised at how good it was. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between this and halibut which is saying a lot about fish and chips. When my food was done, I saw the cook ( a lady ) and it was the same one from my previous visits a long time ago. Oh boy, I hope they don't change as the lady cook is a keeper! I know that this place was up for sale a while back and that is why I was hesitant to come here recently. But, after seeing that the cook is the same, I will be sure to make a few more visits and into my regular rotation of take out food. To all the yelpers out there. Nice mom & pop business, 2 owners/staff we're friendly and accommodating. Ordered 2 lunch specials (cod or haddock), fries & pop $9.95. Great deal as fries are generous and one large fish portion. A slight wait as fish/fries are cooked to order. Fish has a nice light tempura like batter which compliments the fish. Fries were hand cut and not the frozen variety As usually, why is it only a small portion of tartar sauce given verses the amount of fish, must be a conspiracy amongst all the fish & chip restaurants to limit the amount of tartar sauce given to customers. Finally got to try this place! Came on Monday and realized they were closed! So glad we were able to try again! After reading about them and having a craving for fish & chips this place was on our radar! Came here for lunch today around 2pm on a Friday! Love their lunch special! $10.95 includes a drink! You also get a choice of cod & chips (my fave!), haddock & chips (my bf got that one) or Halibut on a bun & chips! I loved my cod it was nice and tender and soft! While the haddock had a more firmer texture and also flaky in its own way! We weren't sure which was which but I liked the cod best while my boyfriend preferred the haddock! I was brought here by a new coworker, as I was on a quest to find a new fish n' chips spot by my new office. What a find this is! They have very reasonable prices for a great piece of fish. I think a piece of Halibut and Chips is about $13, and it's about 4oz of fish. It's a bit on the small side, but I'd rather pay this price point for a bit less fish and yummy chips to get the experience instead of $20 for a few more bites. I want to try the cod next, that is what my friend got and that piece was substantial looking. The chips are pretty good, general "chips" you'd expect from a place like this. I think I'll ask for mine to be well done next time...that would make them perfect! This is a small, family run place and they are friendly and accommodating. Been here once for opening as well as recently. Gotta say I'm impressed that they maintained quality all this time. Ordered the Halibut Meal for 2 for ~$25 and it was enough. The fish is cooked really well and since it's not very salty or strong, I can actually finish all of the fries without feeling like I need a coke to wash all the sodium down. The fish is crisp on the outside yet surprisingly soft and fluffy on the inside, makes for a rather satisfying bite each time. Fries are pretty average, no complaints here. There aren't too many seats so be wary of that. Service is prompt and friendly overall. Lots of parking in the plaza as well. Don't forget to check in on Yelp for the extra 10% off, which is really the icing on top. If you haven't tried this place before, give it a shot, it's great food at reasonable prices. read more

Been reading the reviews in the area and decided upon Amy's. Simple, straightforward and good, Amy's has the hallmarks of a great fish 'n chips shop. On a quiet Sunday afternoon we decided to stop in for a quick bite, just before the evening rush. We ordered a one piece halibut and another with 5 shrimps. The fish was fresh, the batter light and not greasy which one might expect. There was a nice smidge of tartar sauce, coleslaw and a wedge of lemon. The quality was good, the service efficient and attentive. From a price point perspective, it is about $10.00 for the one piece, $12.00 with the shrimp and all in was $26.00. for checking in, we received a 10% discount which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, I agree with the majority of the reviews in terms of location, value and price. Maybe a bit of a larger portion on the one piece would be nice, but would likely order the 4 piece next time! I was by Yonge and Elgin Mills and we spotted "York Fish & Chips" as we are finishing up our cigrette a nice eldery man stopped and chatted explained how last Sunday he wanted to eat here and unfortunately they were closed on Sunday's and referred us to Amy's Fish & Chips that was close by; he explained to us how now he is a regular customer at Amy's, I am so glad for his input because we did go to Amy's Fish & Chips and I dont regret our decision. I am actually glad York Fish & Chips by Elgin Mills was closed because I was forced to go there to eat knowing I already didnt like the taste of the food at that location. Amys Fish & Chips family restaurant is a cozy atmosphere and the young male waiter is very friendly and polite, Amy came out to take our order (Halibut for 2) she was super friendly and knows how to make a great crispy batter. We visited over the weekend and this place did not disappoint. The laid back, casual atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The menu is pretty standard for a fish and chip place, they have cod, Haddock and Halibut either breaded or grilled and served with salad and/or fries. We all ordered halibut (some grilled, some breaded). The breading was light and fluffy. Not overly oily as you sometimes get with breaded fish. Fish was light and flaky. The feedback on the grilled was that it was slightly saltier than the diners liking but overall fresh and great quality. The vegetables in the salad were fresh and generous. The fries were (again!) not oily and crispy. Price point was reasonable. The pieces of fish aren't huge so some of us would order two pieces next time. This place is worth the drive. There was one person eating inside when I arrived since it was raining. The place was clean and quiet. It looks like a small family restaurant for dine-in & take-out. You just sit yourself and order at the counter. The server attended to me before I sat down which was very nice of him. I ordered the daily special which was one piece of cod or haddock & chips + one can of pop for $8.85. Comes to $10 after taxes. The food came very quickly and it was nice and hot. I recently got take out here and it was pretty good. I ordered the halibut dinner for 3 and it tasted very good. I didn't experience the old fryer oil taste as one of a recent reviewer mentioned. They prepared the fish & chips very quickly (it's all battered to order) and it was perfectly fried and not oily. The fries are the traditional thick-cut fries that take salt & vinegar perfectly which is just fine by me. The only criticism was that I thought the pieces of halibut were a bit on the small and thin side, but the portion size was decent. Amy's has a simple, clean storefront in the Starbucks plaza off Elgin Mills. It's not particularly fancy, but upon entering you feel a home-y, comfortable atmosphere filled with the aroma of freshly fried foods. They serve classic fish and chips, and execute it PERFECTLY. The fish is lightly battered but is amazingly crisp when served (even if you get take-out and bring it home, it still retains its crispiness). The fries are also great - thick cut fries that go well with the fish. They also serve cod fillets, which are great too, but I prefer the halibut. The size of the fish is also generous, and you get really great value for your meal. They also have some nice sides of coleslaw and salad which are equally as yummy to the fries as a side. We called in to order and the wait is only 10 min. as soon as we got the food, we ate it immediately in the car while it's still hot! I gotta say, the 2 pieces of Halibut are freshly fried and very crunchy! and yet the fish meat inside is soft and juicy and flakey! Together with the tartar sauce, It's very yummy! And the fries are also very fresh. My wife usually tends to stay away from fries to avoid too much carbs but this time she ate most of the fries... lol! This is our second time coming to Amy's Fish and Chips. Looks like a family run business. Her son and mom hang out at he restaurant and help out from time to time. The place has been pretty quiet both times I came for lunch. In terms of food, the batter on the fish is done just right. Everything is made to order. We had the chicken wrap once and the chicken was a bit dry. Their specials of fish and chips with a drink comes to less than $10. Definitely a great deal! The decoration and furniture appear to belong to previous owners, and the lights aren't turned on during the day... so dining in wasn't too comfortable from a lack of ambience and comfortable seating. It feels much more like a fast food joint than a restaurant. The fish and chips here are definitely worth eating but we will be getting take out instead. read more

This is a family restaurant, small but cozy, clean dining area and washroom. Service is very casual and friendly, just perfect for a casual quick dining for Sunday night. We ordered halibut family meal $22.95 for two, 1 piece of haddock $7.25 an its own and small Greek Salad $4.25. All very decent size, fresh and delicious, the best so far in Richmond Hill. Very good old school family owned and operated (I think) fish and chip place in Richmond Hill. I actually found them by accident when I was next door sharpening my skates. Great find! They were really busy but everyone pitched in (including their cute little boy to serve us our fries). Very fast, efficient and polite. Now the food: Very light batter and not oily when is great. We were able to substitute one of our family order fries with onion rings at no extra cost which is great. The salad was fresh and crunchy too.
