I had lunch today at Malt 'n Salt Fish and Chips. It's in a little strip mall. I had the haddock lunch special with a side of gravy. The batter was light, which I like, but I found that the fish and fries tasted the same ... like grease. I saw a fella hand cutting fries in the back so I know they are fresh but they didn't takes like potatoes. I ate the fish out of the batter and it didn't have a lot of flavour. I won't be back if I'm in Pickering.

    Fresh fresh fresh!!!!

If you have a craving for fish and chips this is the go-to place. The fish is freshly battered and fried on order. We had the halibut and chips... the flavor and freshness were excellent. The chips are freshly cut and fried on premises. Unbeatable flavor. Give it a try!!!!

Finally, fish and chips are back in Stouffville!…read more I've been to Joy's Fish & Chips a few times since they opened mid-2024. I've eaten in and taken out, both of which were mostly positive experiences. The service is consistently friendly and pleasant to interact with. It feels like everyone genuinely enjoys working here, which is a big difference maker. The only minor issue is when dining in. In the first few months of being open I find that the restaurant is often packed and service can be a bit slow (as of December 2024). Other than that, service has been fantastic. As I mentioned earlier, the restaurant often seems busy if you're dining in. However, since I live so close I prefer to take out. As of now they don't have any delivery services but if you're willing to pick up for yourself they're pretty quick. I've had big orders that's I've called in and told it would be ready in 20 min. When I go to the restaurant and order (a smaller order) it's only usually about 10-15 minutes even when the restaurant is packed. The food is very, very good! The fish is battered and cooked to order, which you can see for yourself from the takeout counter. It has a delicious crispy batter while the fish stays moist. The fries (chips) are nice and thick and perfectly fried. My only minor complaint is that the fries need more salt. But that's something I can add myself. I've also tried their scallops and shrimp. Both are really good but not quite the same level of their fish. While I don't know if they're battered to order, they're still juice and fried perfectly. Worth trying! Lastly, I just wanted to mention parking. They have a few parking spots to the right of the building, which is perfect for takeout since the takeout entrance on the right side of the building. They have a few parking spots in front and then also quite a spots to the left of the building. Plenty of parking! Overall, I'm super happy Joy's Fish & Chips! I've been going fairly regularly and I've only had great experiences.

Delicious whether you need gluten free or not!…read more We have food sensitivities and need to eat gluten free. Along with GF needs, we have to avoid all corn products, so finding a restaurant option while traveling can be challenging. The best places will talk to you about their ingredients and prep so that you feel comfortable. These guys were amazing! Rouge Kitchen's entire menu is GF and had things I've never seen before like GF poutine and fish & chips! They spent a ton of time with us finding something we could eat, and even adjusted a couple items to remove corn starch! Probably the best meal we had while in Toronto for 4 days! Highly recommended!

Fish Friday!!! Finally got a picture to post for this wonderful business!…read more To end the week off, we ordered fish and chips from Rouge Kitchen. They use haddock and the batter is the crunchy and fluffy kind. The chips are also delicious fresh out of the fryer. We ordered 2 pcs of fish which came to just over $20. The beautifully battered fish and freshly cut chips are served with a small side of coleslaw (not the creamy kind) and a store made tartar sauce. Their tartar sauce is quite possibly my most favorite tartar sauce in the entire galaxy! The owner is always generous enough to pack an extra container at no extra charge when I tell her how much i love her tartar sauce. Since we're still under the pandemic restriction, you have to call your order in and you'll be given a time slot for pick up. If you're in the mood for fish and chips (only served on fridays), be sure to call in your order early as they do sell out fast!

Our hungry stomachs brought us here for the Wednesday Cod fish n chips special for $14.95. You get a jumbo breaded cod fish, fresh cut fries, and coleslaw. I like how the fish was not overly greasy and they used fresh oil in their deep fryer. This food really hit the spot and satisfied our cravings. The restaurant is bright and open concept. The server was nice and she refilled our ice waters. I recommend coming here if you are looking for fish n chips fix.

I do like that the menu provides caloric details... or maybe I don't! :) They offer every combination of cod, haddock and halibut with sides. They also offer hake, which I've never heard or before. They have quite a wide variety of other items on their menu so I reckon there's something for everyone. You can have your fish deep-fried but they have grilled options available as well. I also noticed that they have a full breakfast menu which includes an eggs benny! I'll have to come back to check that out. The restaurant is open, bright and clean. You can dine in or grab a takeaway. I think the prices are fair based on the various fish options. You're always going to pay more for halibut (which I prefer) but the haddock, cod and hake are considerably less expensive. Overall, the meal was okay but as mentioned above, the stars go to Sophia. Customer service is definitely this girl's vocation. She was quick, attentive and just gave off good vibes.

The "King" cod 2 pieces and chips meal was edible but greasy and very bland almost want to say it…read morewas frozen food quality because the pieces of fish were triangle shaped .The coleslaw was also very bland and store purchased without a doubt . The fries also definitely had a store bought quality to them like of frozen bagged fries. The service was pretty disappointing as it took a good four minutes until someone finally noticed us waiting to be attended to and there was literally no one else at the restaurant. Also, our orders were incorrect, we wanted the two piece dish with chips and he brought a single piece of fish meal. Also though the food came very quickly it was another sign we believe the food is not made in house. Ambiance felt like a high school cafeteria or an extremely casual restaurant. There was no music playing in the background and all we heard the entire time was the order taker/server was speaking loudly in Chinese to the person cooking the food. Sadly this place doesn't deserve a very high rating. It is barely a passing grade and don't think we will eat at said restaurant again.

Having tried fish and chips in England, i'm someone who enjoys a crispier, oily, battered fish. While the portion for the fish was large, I just didn't find it to my liking. For the dishes my table got with chips, I think they were pretty adequate. However, for the onion rings, I am not too sure if the portion of the side was in tune with how much extra was paid for it. They have a large menu in comparison to other fish and chip spots but their haddock, like mentioned, was merely adequate. Perhaps I went on a really busy day but it was hard to get service, they were very hospitable, but check-ins were few and far between.

Captain's Boil, the formulaic chain would be the floor and the one I really enjoyed, Lobster Boil Seafood House, in North York would be the ceiling. What I'm about to say about Sea Salt would definitely leave their management a bit "salty". Unequivocally, Sea Salt sits in the deep basement of the pecking order. Sea Salt's standing was easily determined after my first spoonful of the seafood broil. The sauce was their downfall as they went overboard with the of garlic and not to mention they burnt the garlic. As the Cajun sauce is the soul of a seafood boil, their sauce literally ruined the entire dish and experience. The combo we ordered came with fried calamari and shrimp and fries. The fried calamari and shrimp lacked a bit of "salt", which is rather ironic considering the restaurant's name and neither of the sauce complimented (sweet chilli and ranch) the calamari well. The fries were what you expected it to be. But a little bit too much sauce. The one thing that I liked was you could choose to have the Turkish Salaam Cola as part of your combo drink choice. I didn't think it was all that different from regular cola, but it was nice to try. Service is quite slow here and not super attentive. We had to flag them down various times to get things that should have been provided. We weren't given enough plates to start and we had to request for bibs and disposable gloves. These are pretty standard things at other boil places. In general, the appetizers were better than the seafood boil. The portion of the combo was pretty good so we packed some of it to go. But to put things into perspective, the following day I reheated the food for lunch, and my two kids didn't even touch it (with one of them who had experienced Lobster Boil Seafood house). That tells you something!

You go girls I love it. Came here for dinner and had a hard time choosing what to order as there are so many good options on the menu. Really wanted the calamari & shrimp appetizer but opted in for the shrimp bucket and the fish and chips. I also got a coconut mango drink which was super refreshing and delicious. I thought the fish tacos had a kick of spice added but they were still good. The fries were crispy, which I loved but the highlight for me has to be the shrimp. I loveeeeed the sea salt sauce. Though I usually don't like corn, I loved this one and enjoyed the meal. Would come back here for more for sure!
