Nail Salon Horror Story (Perfection Nails 9/7) I've been going to Perfection Nails in Hazel Dell on and off for about the last 5 years, but I stopped going as often since every time I went, each tech charged differently for the same service and the quality was inconsistent--especially if I wanted something other than a basic one-color manicure. Anyway, I decided to go yesterday because it was the only nail salon open near me, and I'd never had a crazy experience there before--just things like uneven shaping or needing a fill sooner than 2 weeks. My appointment was at 1 p.m. for both a pedicure and a manicure set. I arrived before my scheduled time and let the technicians know I had an appointment. I waited about 15-20 minutes before a man called me over to his table. I asked for an acrylic set and a basic manicure (cuticle trim, etc.). Everything started off fine. I hadn't had him do my nails before, but I'd seen his work and was excited to try someone new. He started by cleaning my hands and doing the usual prep. Once he finished applying and shaping the acrylic, he began working on my cuticles. When he got to my ring and middle finger on my left hand, he cut way too much, and I started bleeding everywhere. I was on the phone with my partner using a headset, so I wasn't paying close attention until I felt pain and saw blood all over my fingers. He was trying to wipe it up with a used rag and even attempted to use nail glue to stop the bleeding. I immediately told him to stop and said I needed to wash my hands because that was not a clean or safe way to handle the cut. After cleaning up, I noticed he had taken a chunk of skin off, and the bleeding continued for about 10 more minutes. I sat there holding my finger and asked him what happened. He told me my cuticles were dry. I apologized but made it clear I did not want him using nail glue to stop the bleeding. Mind you, this was the most I've ever bled in a salon. After the bleeding stopped, he continued painting my nails and asked me to check them. I noticed the middle finger on my right hand was crooked. When I pointed it out, he insisted it was just my finger. We went back and forth for a while until I finally asked if he could at least try to fix it, because it was clearly pointing in a different direction than the others. At this point, I honestly wanted to leave, but I still needed my pedicure. Another lady called me over to her station. I had previously gone to Reflection Spa/Nails, and they had done an amazing job--even applying acrylic over a broken toenail on my big toe to even it out. I explained this to the pedicure tech at Perfection, and she said it was fine and that she would soak it off. By then, I had already been there for 2 1/2 hours and just wanted to relax. I put a show on my phone, kept one headphone out in case she needed me, and let her start. There was a bit of a language barrier, so another tech had to interpret at times. Instead of soaking the acrylic off, she just filed it down and then started trimming my cuticles. Once again, she cut too much, and I started bleeding. She apologized immediately, and I told her it was okay, just to please slow down and be careful. She continued, but when she was cleaning under my toenail, the tool stabbed me under the nail. At that point, I just wanted to get out of there. I ended up paying for everything but didn't tip because of all the cuts I got. I went in for a pedicure, but when offered a mani I got that too. I brought my own base/polish/topper because I prefer a specific brand. They are salon quality. "Kathy" used a dremel tool to remove my old fingernail polish. She used my polish and I left with nice nails. After a few days when I removed my polish, I noticed that there were slices and fissures into my nail beds. The dremel tool must have been turned sideways and cut into my nail. Now my nails are breaking off as they grow out and it is painful. This is on both of my ring fingers but more on my right hand than left. I don't usually visit this salon and can't imagine that I will visit again. So disappointed and frustrated that this happened. It will take months to grow out this gauging. read more

Incredibly disappointed- I went in asking for a design with a picture that had a shape. They did not match the shape. Was told they could only do the design with gel - no problem I have heard this before, so instead asked for a thin French tip. Was told they could do that - ended up getting a thick tip that has a lot of messy edges. Did not even get a hand massage. The only reason it is a 2 and not a 1 is because staff was friendly, it was only $30, and the salon is very nice. It is close to home and I would likely return for the price and a basic pedicure. read more

Went in for a shellac manicure on my natural nail and the manicure was sub par. The shellac turned out horrible. There is air bubbles in the paint like it didn't set. One of the nails air pocket opened and basically can't be fixed. Very disappointing especially since it didn't even last a day. Waste of money read more

I won't be back. Decided to try a new place, early last week. Huge mistake. My pedi experience: terrible language barrier, there are no 'menus' so unless you can listen fast and understand you don't know what's available or what you're getting. They do not have the disposable plastic foot bowl liners. I watched them 'clean' , a bowl after a customer left. Their tools do not come out of a sealed bag sanitized. They were in a small dish bowl at the station. Clearly not cleaned OR sterile. I really wanted to love this salon. But it's hit and miss. The last two times I had technicians who did a beautiful job. However this time I had a technician who was super sweet but just did not have the attention to detail. I asked for a acrylic fill and coffin French tip. She filed my nails so much on the sides that she dug into my fingers. The nails ended up looking less like coffin and more like blunted daggers. One was filed unevenly and I asked her to refile. One was dug in so far it was jagged. I did ask for a specific technician when I set my appointment, but that is not who I was put with. Despite being super disappointed in my nails, I tipped $20 because she worked really hard and was very sweet. The person next to me received a new nail file and buffer. I did not. In fact, the ones used on me appear to have been previous used. I won't be going back because there is no guarantee that I will receive a quality job. read more

$42 for basically a polish is a bit much. Asked for a manicure. Chose to do dip for the polish. No soak, no cuticle trim, no massage. Be cautious of the fancy 6-step pedicure package they will sell you on. "6 steps vs 4" Well that means they'll use 5 steps on your feet and save the 6th for your hands. $72 for the fancy 6-step pedicure. I've had better for longer for about $50 at other places. The technicians are nice and work quickly, a busy shop. I watched a few people that waited too long and few impatient even though they were told "a few minutes." We had made an appointment so were seen rather immediately. I recommend making an appointment and asking for a menu of services to be sure you get what you expect. read more

Unfortunately, this was the worst manicure/pedicure experience my wife and I have ever had. We visited them on Saturday 11/14. The pedicure for both of us was okay...my wife's toenails were very sloppy in terms of painting. There seemed to be a general feeling of wanting to just get us done even though it wasn't that busy. The issue came when it was time for our manicures. The lady who did mine cut my nails basically as short as they could be cut. On three fingers, she cut them short enough that they bled shortly after from just doing normal activities. My nails are also incredibly lopsided. When she noticed how short she cut them, she didn't apologize, she just asked if it hurt to which I replied, yes. She also proceeded to giggle when she sprayed them with alcohol/acetone and I winced. The same lady who did mine, did my wife's. My wife's finger nails we're painted horribly. When she was removing her polish, my wife told her it was just standard polish. The lady started to file it off. She then asked after doing a couple nails if it was standard and my wife said yes, that's what I said before you started. She then used remover. She had paint on her skin and when she pointed it out and asked for it to be fixed, the lady proceeded to trim her skin rather than just use remover. At this point my wife and I were both at our wits end. It honestly seemed like she had never done a manicure/pedicure in her life. If I had known we were going to spend $160 for the level of service we got, we would have just done it at home. I will always recommend this place for a manicure/pedicure. Walked in and got sat very quickly for my pedicure with Jenny. She was amazing and communicated that the French tip would be $15 extra, which I appreciated. She also did my manicure and made sure I liked the thickness of the French tips (for toes as well). It only took me 3 years... it I finally found a great one! Kim is who I go to! She's so sweet and does such a great job! From checking my cuticles after my fill, making sure the shape is how I like it, and even the hand massage when she's done!... it's all SO awesome! And she does great designs! Last time she put palm trees on my nails and they were the cutest thing! (I totally should have taken a pic and added to this review but I suck and forgot) So I wanted to make sure to give her props this time around cause I love my little daisies! On Sunday I got a fill of my acrylics. I called and made an appointment ahead of time. In the middle of my appointment, the nail tech left for 7-10 minutes to go wax someone in a room behind me, just telling me to wait (as if I had a choice as I'm sitting there with polish on part of my nails). After going home satisfied with the look of my nails, within 24 hours, in breaks clean off. The fill took about an hour and I didn't have an hour to spare to get them fixed, working full time. Then on Thursday I had ANOTHER NAIL BREAK OFF! I've gotten my nails done enough times to know an acrylics should last at least 3 week. At this point I'm upset I paid $42 to get something done that was poor quality. Seeming that it was within 4 days of the app, between errands for my upcoming weekend with guests coming into town, I go into Perfection Nails to show them what happened. I asked politely for a refund explaining I don't have time to get them fixed. The front desk individual proceeded to laugh at me telling me "I did your nails, you broke them. It's not my fault. I won't give you money back." I have NEVER in my life been treated so poorly by a nail technician and was shocked to see that someone could so easily laugh in my face and not understand why I was upset. In hindsight, I should have known not to go back when my first appointment, about 3 weeks prior on a Friend recommendation, I asked to work with Phil and he never showers up for my appointment so another tech had to step in and take over. On my first visit here Amy recommended dip powder manicure. I wanted something to give my nails some strength but look natural. Normally I keep them very short with no white showing because that are weak and will bend and tear if I let them grow. I let them grow a little bit for a wedding because I wanted them to look nice. I read online silk wrap would be good for what I wanted. After talking, Amy recommended the dip powder so I followed her recommendation. She took a lot of time doing the manicure to prepare my nails. I have never had a manicure like that before. Normally it's a quick scraping and cutting and probably your cuticles look kind of ragged and might bleed a little. Not this time. Amy did a very nice job. The quality was very good. The dip powder looks like exactly what I wanted. I will definitely come back and see Amy again. Highly recommend her! read more

Let me start off with the reason for loss in stars is not because of service because it pains me to have to ding this place actually . It's hygiene and business practices that I'll explain , First everyone is nice , and my nails turned out great . But however , not once did I see my nail tech get out new and unused tools . With my pedicure no liner on the tubs , which happens . No new files etc or tools out of sanitizer liquid or sanitized same when I moved stations and had my acrylic done . Here is the big bomb . I straight saw my lady double dip the stick she used on me for my wax .. i went home and washed my face twice grossed out . Second , when you walk in everywhere it's posted they love cash tip ; kinda normal for service industry I was prepared for that and had a nice cash tip ready with me . However no where besides the pedicure menu that wasn't presented does it suggest you will be charged more for EACH service two bucks if you use your card ! It's kinda normal at some places for a card use of Maybe a dollar but two dollars per service , that's 6 bucks! And yet they run your card only once .: your only choice is the oh so questionable atm by front doors that of course charges you .. and of course nothing is said to you . I think owner say me kinda questioning it , and came and gave me hug and said some of the girls don't know good English and didn't explain . Then they should waive the fee or display this on your way in so your aware .. because of these two major things I won't be back . And it's a bummer because it's hard to find good nail techs now days .. read more

New staff, a lot of riff raff. A new lady wouldn't listen to anything I said, tried to run a tip between my nail and the broken tip instead of soaking them off, then got mad when I was like you can't halfway soak off one nail and glue another one on top of the remains because fungus will grow. Nails aren't cut correctly and look cloudy. None of my nails are even close to the same lengths on any finger, she tried to paint them a totally different color than what I picked. I ended up filing my own nails & had to tell a random chick to mind her own business because she had to put her nose into my business. Done with this place. read more
