My favorite chocolatier in Frederick, MD! My friend took me there years ago, when it was still on Shan Row. I lost track of the new location after awhile, but found it again during my last visit! Tiny shop with the most BEAUTIFUL CHOCOLATE you've ever seen! Creative flavors like cardamom caramel, earl gray grapefruit, and rosemary pear caramel keep you coming back for more! And yes, there are vegan flavors! In the wintertime, they have some of the best hot chocolate you'll ever taste. The only downside is that it's a small business that doesn't stay open late at night on the weekends (which is usually when I'm in Frederick). read more

I visited The Perfect Truffle on a Saturday evening after hours for their bean to bar chocolate tasting. The owner, Cody, was welcoming and friendly. The tasting consisted of 4 different types of chocolate, all unique and craft chocolates. I would have liked to see a little more variety in the chocolates in terms of types/fillings BUT I will say it was really interesting to learn how the amounts of ingredients (sugar, milk, cocoa) and where the beans were made impacts the chocolate flavor. At the end of the tasting, Cody let us taste some of the most delicious hot chocolate I've ever had!! We also got a 10% discount on purchased items. I got 12 truffles and a korean chili flake chocolate bar to enjoy with hubby later. They were all delicious! read more

[Coronavirus review] Not only can you order curbside pickup online, the store was actually open when I stopped by. This was definitely the sort of place where you want to look at the product before you buy it, because it's so pretty. I managed to restrain myself to eight truffles, some of which I shared. I must say I was most excited for the dark chocolate mint, which was the shiniest-looking but the least delicious of the bunch. The other varieties I sampled were much more richly flavored. This doesn't appear to be a special diet place (i.e. didn't see any vegan/GF labeling). It does deliver a combined visual and taste experience that's worth the stop. read more

Stopped by this place just to check it out. Overall, I am not a big chocolate fan, but my friends are so they did all the oohing and aahing while we were there. Their chocolates look really pretty that you want to purchase and eat them all. A few that I saw were Apple (nice green color), Lavender (purple petals with a yellow center on top - love their attention to details), Hibiscus Tea (squares with red on top and a flower etched in), and Grand Marnier (bright red color). These colors were just the outside of the chocolate. Saw the prices and decided just to get 2 - Grand Marnier and Hibiscus Tea and they were good. Got a 12 pack of truffles for about $24 dollars for my mother. Before walking in, this place may seem empty. But right when you walk in, it seemed like an ice cream store. The walls were covered in bright colors and the front had "awards" for best chocolate of some sort for certain years. I was convinced. I couldn't just walk out without buying anything. The young lady who worked there was very kind and helped me choose which flavors would be 1) dark chocolate and 2) tasty. She also provided a brochure which showed the flavors in each truffle. Each truffle is made in house. The only negative I see, which I can see why, is the price. Each truffle is about $2. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets. However, even at 12 truffles, it was $2 per truffle. I tried the coffee vanilla truffle only (before writing this review), and it was melting in my mouth. I loved it. read more

Chocolates are great and the staff is extremely helpful and act as your guide as they explain all of the different flavors and such. I've worked and lived downtown yet haven't been back to The Perfect Truffle since they moved to their Market St. location. I love walking in the door and smelling all the chocolate. Every chocolate bar they sell has a lovely wrapper design and all their truffles have unique flavors and have beautiful swirls of color. What brought me back, though, was hearing that they now had frozen mousse! Yum! Their flavors will rotate and I enjoyed a strongly flavored, but still delicious, chocolate chip mint. Let me start off by saying that I'm not a chocohalic by anyone's definition. My tastes run toward milk chocolate & white (I know it's not really) chocolate. Yet I've liked truffles in the past and was expecting a Godiva-like experience with these costly sweets. I got a box of 8 truffles. Flavors: vanilla 101, irish cream, vienna cinammon tea, smores, amaretto, honey ginger balsamic, dark chocolate & Old Bay. I was surprised to find that, no matter the flavor, they left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. (BTW, the dark chocolate & old bay were for hubby.). The flavor of the inside didn't compensate for the bitterness. I wish I'd seen the Yelp coupon for $7 since I paid full price. They were certainly each beautiful to look at, but not tasty for me. read more

I'm actually really glad I found this place; I was disappointed with The Candy Kitchen downtown as they don't make their own chocolates, so I was looking for a real chocolatier and The Perfect Truffle is one. On the plus side, the regular chocolates they make they do very well. The basic flavors I tried, such as salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate mint, etc, were all extremely decadent. On the downside, their more "adventurous" flavors (such as an Old Bay chocolate truffle, cayenne pepper truffle, cinnamon pear balsamic truffle) missed the mark. I'm really glad they put themselves out there and are willing to try new things, but quite a few of these truffles just didn't work. The truffles themselves, regardless of their taste, are absolutely gorgeous. It's a gift in and of itself to see these truffles. The box they're placed in after you pick them out is a gold plastic that really compliments the chocolates, and gets wrapped in a nice bow. The location of the store is a bit meh for someone who wants to walk around more of the downtown-downtown area. But for someone like me who often parks at Shab Row and goes to the other places there such as the coffee shop, Tea Emporium, and the bakery, then this place is just right across the street from Angel Cakes in the brick plaza (like behind the Talbots). 4/5 read more

I'm so excited about the truffles at the Perfect Truffle. I recently got turned on to a box of 24 of these delicious chocolates. Every bite was sensational. I love it because I am satisfied after 1 or 2 and my calorie count stays in check. I am having a truffle tasting party with my nieces next week. The lavender truffles blew my mind, the oatmeal stout truffles are delicious, and every piece he creates is inspired. You will never want to settle for Godiva or other mass-produced chocolates ever again! Stopped in this little gem last week. They have a great Yelp deal for a box of 8 chocolates for $7 (normally around $15). I took advantage of the deal but there were so many flavors that I had to get another box! They are all made in this shop so the staff knows everything about each flavor, which is great.
