    Focaccia, caprese
    Jordin S.

We found this little spot nestled off on a side street where it was much quieter. The tables outside were close but comfortable. We enjoyed a basket of focaccia and caprese to pair with a bottle of wine. The focaccia was thicker than we'd had in the area and we really enjoyed the seasoning. The caprese was simple but tasty. We had a mix up on our pizza order where we received a mushroom pizza versus potato pizza. They quickly offered to remake it but we decided we were okay without it and they removed it from the bill. Would recommend for a quiet and delicious evening in Trastevere.

    Tasty pizza

The ricotta filled crust was awesome, but the undercarriage of the pizza was a little floppy. Nonetheless, I love a thin crust! The pizza was tasty, but I think I prefer more toppings, but that's a personal preference. The aperol spritz was delicious and huge! The man who served us was polite and they provided adequate service.

Peppo was one of our food spots on our Tour with Eating Europe. Our guide Valentina was so knowledgeable about the pasta, sauces, etc. We got to sample their margaritas pizza, their local white wine (blessed by the Pope) & red wine as well as 2 different types of pastas. One was pasta with cracked pepper and cheese, the other pasta with red sauce and seasonings. Honestly, all the food and wines were amazing, but I preferred the pasta with cheese and cracked pepper. The staff was on par and accommodated our large group in a swift and professional manner. I'd highly recommend Peppo!

Food was delicious. Service is super friendly. Alessio take care of our party of 4 so well. Cozy place for visitors to get a full experience in Italy.

Pizza in the wood burning oven

We were almost not going out that night...but finally decided to go across the street to PePPO and that was the exactly right decision. The manager greeted us on the street and had a table waiting for us in minutes. The food was delicious, the atmosphere fun, and we were invited to go back into the kitchen to help make pizza! I could not recommend PePPO more enthusiastically. Go! Eat well! Have fun!!!

Fantastic local Italian place with a seafood twist in a trendy neighborhood. I visited on a tuesday evening at seven pm, which is the beginning of their dinner time. The two of us shared four dishes. Octopus salad, pizza with anchovies, pasta with muscles and pepperoni cheese, and suppli. All of them were delicious. We especially enjoyed the octopus salad, which was very tender and perfectly seasoned. The pasta was also unique, something I have not seen offered at other restaurants. The pizza was fantastic, but the anchovies were a bit salty as expected. Sitting inside is abundant despite its exterior. Vibe is family oriented and romantic, and staff are very kind and friendly. I enjoyed dining there as the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy working together. I will definitely be back here on my next visit to Rome.

Peppo and his entire staff welcomed me with exceptional warmth and care, the service was impeccable, the space is inviting, and the food was, oh, so good! I had the traditional Roman chicory and the pizza special with eggplant, red and yellow grape tomatoes, mozzarella, and fresh basil. A very special "Thank you!" goes to Alam, the master at the oven, who made my pizza. No doubt, I will be back again before I leave, and I highly recommend this to anyone visiting Rome.

Mackerel on bruschetta? Even my 11 year old loved it.

Walked by this place on our way back to our apartment, and we picked up on the friendly and collegial neighborhood vibe. I picked up a business card, and we made a reservation for dinner the next night. When we arrived, they had our table outside reserved. We ordered wine, and since it was so hot, they brought out an ice "bucket" which as actually a plastic gift style bag--cute idea! The wine list has great variety and a range of prices. We ordered a more expensive bottle of Avellino, the best we have had so far! We had two bruschetta for antipasti: one mackerel and another with anchovies. Both were incredible!! We also had the octopus potato croquette which was everyone's favorite at the table. For dinner, we shared two pastas: one was green fettuccini with raw shrimp, and the other was spaghetti with octopus. The pastas were perfectly cooked with flavorful sauces. We also shared a Margherita pizza, which had an excellent crust and very flavorful cheese and basil. Our waiter, Simone, brought us some digestivo out for after dinner on the house! Very authentic experience, as the menu is in Italiano, but they have an English version you can download on your phone. We would go back!!

Pizza special of the day tomato sauce two types of cheese mozzarella pecorino eggplant mushrooms and tomatoes!

We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

When we arrived on a late afternoon, we waited about 10 minutes before getting seated. To start off, we got the Limoncello Spritz (€10) and Aperol Spritz (€10), which were refreshing. For our pasta, we ordered the Fettuccine with Oxtail (€18) and Carbonara (€17). We also wanted to order two more Secondi dishes, but the waiter warned us that the pasta is filling. After we finished the pasta, we did still order the Rabbit (€19) because it wasn't something we usually see on the menu. For the carbonara, the flavor was delicious but not really my favorite pasta shape. It was also quite al dente with a chewy texture. I have to say that the oxtail was spectacular though with its juicy and tender meat sauce. While the rabbit was nice to try once, it was a bit dry with minimal meat. Overall, good spot but nothing worth waiting too long for. Also, I'd stick to the pasta here as it's all handmade. You even see them handrolling them inside. Note that they also charge €2 per person for service fee already.

The menu had all the Roman classics, and we ordered Pasta Carbonara, Casio e Pepe with Guanciale, Roman style artichokes, and Zucchini Flowers. After a few minutes, I was transported to the Jersey Shore. As the food arrived, that Jersey Shore analogy grew into reality. I have tasted this food before. Il Ragno d'Oro became a mediocre Italian restaurant in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. However, I was in Rome, Italy and expected more. My Pasta Carbonara was heavy, stuck together, and thought al dente was a bodega in Newark. The Cacio e Pepe had coagulated into a sticky mess. The artichoke and zucchini dishes were greasy and standard fare for an Italian restaurant anywhere in the world. But I was in Rome! Roma-the home of Pasta Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, and Artichoke preparations. Yes, everyone was perfectly nice, the prices were reasonable, and the people around me were all having a grand time. My wife, who is of Italian heritage, couldn't eat her pasta. She said her Italian grandmother would have gone into the kitchen to show them how to cook pasta. I too, usually a human garbage disposal, left most of my pasta on the table. We walked back to our apartment in Prati disappointed. This was our worst dinner in Rome. Sorry, but it's true. Maybe the cooks had a bad night, but the dishes were subpar at best.

I like it on the lean side of medium rare and my wife prefers a bit more. This was perfect for us to both enjoy it the way we like. Her pasta was excellent as well and we enjoyed sharing the meal. A bottle of wine topped off a great dinner. The weather was rainy so we opted to sit inside and it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was helpful with our choices and we enjoyed his observations. The only thing I can say that was off, was the older woman who was paying her bill before me was pressured into leaving a tip ( service charge, is what he said). I was prepared for that but was not asked to tip. Great meal, we enjoyed it immensely, but the service charge that was scammed out of the 70+ year old lady in front of me kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
