I ordered the Triple M's explosion and if you want something fruity and cooling you will love it! The chipotle chicken nachos were to DIE for - the quantity is so large you can easily share it with 3 other people. My only complaint would be that our waitress seemed a bit tipsy as she was extremely touchy and sort of forgot about us halfway through but another waitress noticed and jumped right in! read more

An underrated gem in food. My friends and I discovered Pepper by accident when a nearby restaurant we wanted to try had an extensive waiting list. The decor had a warm and inviting feel and the place, while empty at 1pm, still had a relax atmosphere that didn't feel empty at all. I dined on a fine flat bread pizza, well priced and very filling. I also sampled their pork scewers made from perfectly succulent pork belly. To drink, I highly recommend the infused tea. They take classic tea and add different fruits and berries, then place the entire thing I'm a coffee French press. When ready, you press down on the French press and pour yourself a very refreshing glass of iced tea. The entire dining experience was wrapped up with wonderful service am a drink menu that makes me want to come back for more. Pepper is a great treat for fans of good food amd dronks. read more

Pepper Smash is a casual, dimly lit cocktail bar located in the Shops of Legacy. It offers American food "with a twist" and a pretty good happy hour menu. I came here for happy hour with a few girl friends and afterwards we took the short walk to Scruffy Duffies. We tried one of the flatbreads which I thought was good, but my girl friends disagreed. The most enjoyable part about my experience here was definitely our waitress, Sand. There are a few TVs sprinkled around the restaurant, so it might be a good spot to hit on game day. I can't recall the type of pitchers we had but the waitress compared it to a fish bowl. It was very sugary but efficient in getting me tipsy. I really enjoy this place for the cocktails and food, but last night must have been an off night, hence the three star review. 1. Our waitress on the patio was off. Our friends arrived and placed their order about ten minutes before we got there because parking on a Saturday night at the Shops is what it is! When we arrived our drink order was placed, but for some strange reason our drinks came out before our friend's did. Hmmmm, then someone came over trying to explain that the bellini machine wasn't working so she would have to get another drink. Huh? Why was that not mentioned earlier? 2. After drinks were delivered the waitress looks at our friends confused and says "OH MY, I forgot your food order." She proceeded to take everyone's food order (our friend's for the second time). All I could notice was that she wasn't writing any of it down. 3. The table was not level and our drinks kept spilling everywhere. We literally had to hold the table to one side in the hopes they wouldn't get knocked over. 4. The usually superb chicken and waffles was mediocre at best. The oil from the fryer seemed old and the waffles didn't seem fresh and were slightly soggy. The drinks were a big hit, as usual, but I hope the food and service aren't a sign of things to come. read more

Cool spot to chill, but the drinks are garbage! Bartenders are awful. This was my first and last time coming to this spot.

This place was weird. They removed all the booths and had a sparse amount of cocktail tables but there was little room to sit. The bar line was long and there did not appear to be any cocktail waitresses. At a certain part of the night a DJ started playing and this "restaurant" in a shopping center in the middle of the Shops at Legacy turned into a pseudo nightclub. Seemed that other patrons felt the same way because when we were leaving we realized it was the most empty of all the surrounding restaurants/bars. The drinks were good albeit overpriced and the service was pretty slow. They allow pets on the patio and a guest allowed their dog to urinate right there and no one ever cleaned it up. I was hungry and they serve food but no one else in the entire place was eating so I skipped dinner. Not really what I was expecting. Probably wouldn't return. Or if I do go back I will at least only go expecting cocktails. read more

Well, "I think we're gonna need a bigger boat" cuz Chef Vijay may have something here! What's to like? The ambiance! This place is cool! Nice and laid back vibe to kick it with your entourage or squeeze. Love the stylish seating lining the wall, bar tables, and mini patio. Perfect for the Shops. Oh you got it right here Vijay! Where Sutra brought cricket (noise), now you've got the Legacy goers in droves!!! Tapas? Yes please. I crush small plates, I hate eating huge proportions when out & about that renders me lethargic, my stomach feeling like a huge wad of jello, and an ineptness for intercourse. If dazed and confused, go with the ceviche tostados, spicy texas chili lollipops (that name sells itself) and the Hummus and Olives (Chef Vijay left some Sutra DNA in this dish with the delicious naan bread, but I dare not ask for a Tandoori dipping sauce! Luckily the hummus dip is just right (2 pts for Chef Vijay). All dishes were high on presentation and taste. I didn't sample the entrees so I will abstain from commenting, but I took a gander at other tables and the big plates look appetizing. The drinks are good. Hater reviews can hate, but it says "Mixology" across the damn menu. Mixologists play chemistry, bartenders tend bar. Such drinks cost. Enough said. The females in my party tried the Triple M's Explosion. I sampled, it was tasty, but dudes be sure to put it in a man glass, don't violate the homey code. Pepper Smash does some things good and other things not so much Location and Atmosphere: Good. Everybody likes The Shops of Legacy. Pepper Smash is trendy and hip. It's not a real big place though. Drinks: it's a cocktail kitchen. They can be a bit pricy but they're pretty good. The ladies liked the nitrogen infused Triple M's Explosion, I tried the F***ing lemonade. It was good, but not a very big drink. Tall skinny glass with lots of ice. I nursed it. Next round I tried the Smoking Dr Pepper. Much better choice. It's made with Makers Mark. Nice strong pour. Very smooth and very good. I could drink a lot of these. Food: The small plates (appetizers) were really good. We had the lamb sausage flatbread, spicy coriander chicken, and macaroni and cheese. The chicken tasted like General Tso's chicken. Kind if made me wonder if they buy it at Costco and nuke it in the kitchen. It was good though. Large plates ( entrees) were hit and miss. The short ribs were a hit. The shrimp and grits were good too. The grilled hangar steak was a complete miss. It looked like small steak medallions served over mashed potatoes. My friend said it tasted fishy. Very weird. My burger was also a miss. I ordered it medium and received it well done. I overlooked that but couldn't overlook how salty it was. I couldn't finish it. Luckily it's served with a ton of fries. Service was excellent. Our waiter was very good. He also removed the steak and burger from our bills. What a JOKE of a restaurant!! I stopped in after receiving a gift card. I had to get back to work so placed a to go order and was excited to try their hummus with naan as well as their ceviche tostadas. I frantically opened up the box, stoked to dive in and what greeted me was nothing more than a sloppy, joke of a "meal." To start, the hummus was in a tub that maybe had 1/4 cup of hummus in it and that is a generous estimate. About 2 cups of olive oil topped the hummus, so much so that I couldn't even get down to the hummus. The "naan" was nothing more than pita bread that was BLACK it was so "chargrilled." The ceviche tostada was literally 4 standard sized tortilla chips with a dab of fruit salsa topped with a baby shrimp cut in HALF. In HALF! So for $10 you get 4 chips and 2 shrimp. What a steal! Was the taste decent? Sure...but I don't know anyone who would think that price for delivery is appropriate. To make matters worse, the waitress asked if I "just wanted (her) to toss the gift card" since there was only $3 let on it. Ummm... sure because I will NEVER be returning to this place. How dare they take up the precious retail space in Legacy. I would have just as well thrown the gift card down the toilet since thats what the visit was equivalent to. I was hunting for a brunch spot at the shops and caught their weekend brunch ad outside of the restaurant- so my family, and I decided to give it a try. PROS: Great menu options: there's a nice variety including classics such as chicken and waffles and new twists like the Apple hash. We ordered both and the stuffed French toast. Affordable: none of our plates were listed more than $10. I was really surprised. Tasty food: everything was wonderful. Chicken was well seasoned, waffles were fluffy, French toast was great and the Apple hash was nothing short of mouth watering. CONS: Portion sizes: some...actually all of the plate sizes are laughable. They are definitely not Texas size or even average. Now I kind of see why the plates are around $10. Be prepared to order 2 plates if you'd like to leave satisfied Overall, I had a great experience and do plan to head back out for brunch again. read more

A friend and I came in Pepper Smash around 9pm to get some drinks and have dinner. We had a seat at one of the tables and no one ever came to help us. We waited about 15 minutes. I then went up to the bar to just go ahead and order. My normal bartender was busy making drinks. The manager was to the bar side closest to the front door was just talking and talking and talking and not noticing people waiting to order. I am a tall girl. It wasn't like they could see me. You just have to look up. And It wasn't that the place was so busy. It was due to lack of attention on part of the manager. I went to the other end of the bar because there was no customers there and I continued to wait and continued to wait. Finally my normal bartender girl saw me and came over to me and took our order. I had been waiting a while at that point. She got our drinks. We ordered dinner from her at the same time and she said she'd bring them over when it was ready. We ordered the salmon. She said that the salmon was out of stock. Then we ordered the Ahi tuna tacos. Sounds good. Then my bartender girl comes over to my table and said she found out that the Ahi tuna was also out of stock. We told her we'd figure it out and decide what else we could order. It was my friend's first time here. I asked my friend to see what she wanted to order for dinner for a third time and realize that the waitress working the floor was busy talking to a group of women for a long time as well and probably wouldn't be over to take our order. So we left and went across the street to go for dinner and had some drinks. I originally asked my girl was the managers name was and she said Mario. Well Mario wasn't managing very well at all. I told my girl that it has definitely changed in there and I wouldn't be back. She was very apologetic but I told her it wasn't her fault. She agreed it had changed. This is an update to my previous review on 7/17/12: We re-visited Pepper Smash last month just because we were in the area and wanted to see if anything had changed. A couple of things to mention: I was VERY happy to find that they've re-vamped the cocktail menu! The names of the cocktails made more sense, although they still managed to keep the creativity. Good job guys! I was able to order a delicious, beautiful strawberry champagne cocktail (YAY!!), and the waitstaff was MUCH friendlier and engaging than the first time we went. My better half had a few bourbon cocktails which he thoroughly enjoyed! And I have to say: although some people don't like to see it, I LOVE to see my bartender taste my drink with a straw before serving it to me. That tells me, "Hey, I care about this creation I've made for you and I want it to be the very best!" Thanks for that! We didn't try the food as we just popped in here for cocktails, but I'd definitely be open to stopping by Pepper Smash to sample some more cocktails and give the food another shot. Just 3 stars this go-around because I'm still a little skeptical....but keep up the good work guys! I'm hoping you can change my mind in the future and win my 4 stars! read more

Came here with some friends late at night. Very nice atmosphere- beautiful modern decor. Got the Moscow mule variation made with Makers Mark which is my favorite whiskey and loved it. Little too much ice though. Their curry fries are out of this world! I highly recommend it, even if you're just coming in for drinks. Their buffalo wings are pretty good too. Like most people though, you come in for the cocktails and Pepper Smash does not disappoint. Some of the most unique cocktails I've ever seen and they all taste awesome. Pretty pricey, but someone's gotta pay the ridiculous rent at Shops at Legacy. If you're looking for a drink experience, this is the place to go. read more

I read the other reviews and can see their point of view as they are the Bud Light, Taco crowd. The service here was spot on. From the hostess, to the bartender, to the server. The trick here is to not go by the menu. Menus are for you McDonalds people and ordering by the numbers. This isn't your place. Engage the bartender and he will make anything you want and do it with flair. I told him I liked GlenLivet and Jameson. I got the best tasting drink that contained both ingredients and it was done with flair. The glass was lit on fire. Yes!!, Lit on fire. My date ordered a special drink as well, and it was also done to perfection. We ordered items off of the menu and the server didn't blink an eye when my date made several substitutions and special requests for her meal. I hardly ever give out 5 stars. This place was worth it. If you want to order a margarita and the #12 off of a menu, then stay away. If you have some adventure and are want to try something new then this is for you. As far as over priced drinks, my specially made to order was $9. Very reasonable for the effort that was made. For a place focused on mixology, this place seems to be having a love affair with sugar. I had the ultra violette and it was super sweet. Looked at the menu to see if I could possibly order something less sweet (husband was drinking the pepper smash which I wasn't really into... like a Bloody Mary sans the tomato juice, though he liked it), and there really wasn't much more to order (even their old fashioned is a freaking VANILLA one! And the gastronomically interesting cocktails are essentially a daiquiri and some cotton candy disaster...), so we left after just the one cocktail. We also ordered a prosciutto pizza and truffle mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was fine. The meat on the pizza was not prosciutto, but sliced ham, and the crust had something on it that tasted like cinnamon. The menu seems to be inspired by new American and Indian cuisine and is quite unfocused. I'm sure this place is lovely for suburban tastes, but as someone from Chicago who has experienced the pleasure of bitter, sour, and smoky all the time, I think Pepper Smash needs to lay off the sugar and focus its menu. read more

I love this place for its specialty drinks. The smoked whiskey is smoked in front of you. Their signature drink, the Pepper Smash, is made with red, yellow, and green bell peppers. It tastes like drinking a pizza! All of their frozen drinks are frozen with liquid nitrogen. The bartenders put on a show behind the bar with the nitrogen and the smoked whiskey. They have an eclectic mix of food from quail, to chicken tikka masala, to truffle mac'n'cheese. The food is a little pricey, but they have an app on iOS and Android that gives you points for freebies after each visit. I have received at least 3 free truffle mac'n'cheeses already. Do yourself a favor and try the watermelon margarita. It's not on the menu yet. A bartender gave that drink to us free one day to try. We have ordered one every visit since for $6. It's not just a margarita with watermelon flavor. It has a distinct taste. Instead of salt/sugar around the rim, it has a spice blend (think Mrs. Dash) that complements it deliciously. read more

Never made it to Sutra but decided to try out Pepper Smash yesterday and came away impressed. I had the Pepper Smash cocktail which is an interesting mix of sweet and savory. My dining companion had the F'ing Lemonade which she loved. We split three small plates - the hummus and olives, the ham croquets and the fried soft shell crab. Tried Pepper Smash for the first time last night and enjoyed the casual atmosphere, the fresh ingredients and the innovative craft cocktails. Plano (and Dallas, for that matter) have plenty of restaurants and bars but Pepper Smash has an original concept like nothing else in the area. The menu is a bit quirky with a comic book theme and the superhero is a blond haired blue eyed character, Pepper Woman. It was fun and again, it was different. The restaurant is beautiful and had a warm atmosphere. There were various seating options including booths, high top tables, bar seating, kitchen view counter and even a small patio that I'll have to check out when it isn't 108 degrees. Since I was dining solo, I started my evening at the bar and had the attention of the attentive bartender. He was knowledgeable about the drink selections and was able to help guide me in making my first selection...Tarragon Vodka Skinny, a light and refreshing vodka mixed with fresh herbs. It was delicious and went down a little too fast. I paired this with the Mediterranean flatbread. DELICIOUS! The crust was made of naan and covered in grilled chicken, pesto, feta, tomato, spinach and herbs. It's a rather large flatbread. Definitely enough for two to share or for one to have as a meal. I could only handle half as I was saving room to try something else on the menu. For round two, I ordered the wonderful Green Apple-Ginger Martini. No Apple Pucker in this apple-tini! FRESH APPLES, Belvedere vodka and ginger syrup. I'm not a ginger fan, so I was a bit nervous, but it just added a bit of sweetness to it. It was definitely not your typical appletini...again, delighted to have something new and enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients. I wasn't getting out of there without exploring one more item off of the food menu. I went with the Ceviche Tostadas. When it arrived it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It didn't look like a typical ceviche dish I've had elsewhere. There were four mini corn tostadas with a mound of crab and mango salsa and a shrimp strategically placed on top of each one. After finishing the four two-bite tostadas, it left me wanting more. It was so fresh and tasty, but I had to remind myself that this item was on the "Small Plates" menu and savored the last bite. After I was finished making my journey through the food and beverage menu I decided to relocate to the kitchen view counter and end my evening with a glass of wine. Watching Executive Chef Vijay, Chef Brian and their team was not quite like watching Hell's Kitchen, but was entertaining nevertheless! I'll be going back very soon and taking some friends with me. Came here for an impromptu happy hour before an event in the area. I wasn't impressed from the start. The place had an odd stench and initially, I thought it was where I was sitting but that wasn't the case. The server was nice. It was just his second day so we gave him more leeway. We asked about happy hour specials and were initially told there were none. When we commented on this, he said, "well there are $4 beers and something on wells." Uhm ok... The drinks are overrated for the price. The hubs and co-worker got fire-smoked Dr. Pepper. The waiter correctly described it "as though you are drinking a campfire." It came out in with smoke... I like the hubs' description, "even though I left it alone for 5 minutes like they said, it's like I'm drinking a makers while inhaling smoke instead of it giving a smoky taste to the drink." We also shared a hummus which was the only redeeming part of our visit. The hummus was good but what was amazing was the naan it came with. We had a friend whose gluten-free and they had no tortilla chip options. We asked for veggies and were charged $4 for 8 pieces of celery stalks. The waitress we had, Carly, was super nice and helpful. The places was fairly busy and the staff was able to manage. We did not eat, so I can't say anything on the food, but it sounded good :) The tripe M explosion is probably my new favorite thing. It is like strawberry through a straw. The adult snocone was super strong and needed a little more sweetener, but overall not bad. I would say don't go by all of the reviews on here.
