Acceptable food for a standard pizza sub shop. The pizza has a sweet sauce, crust is a bit thick for my liking. The subs are not huge, nor overstuffed but they appear to be made from quality "Sysco" type food. Did not appear to be freshly sliced deli. I have tried the cheese steak, turkey and cold cut and all are par with average eateries. The Salads are what really good. They are stacked with tasty veggies and overloaded. The new look of the place is coming together, although it seems like it is taking years. The service is horrible. You get the feeling that if you are a regular they may treat you well but if you walk in off the street, forget about it. They are almost angry to serve you. They are very unfriendly when we called in an order and the kid on the phone actually said "oh my god what do you want?", after giving him my family's order, he dropped the phone and someone else picked it up and I had to order again. When I have been in the small ordering space the 5 plus employees behind the counter seem to be more interested in talking to each other than assisting the 12 plus people waiting with me. You sorta have to force them to take your order. One poor service experience would be one thing but bad experiences have happened multiple times to me and it is why we no longer eat there. We go to Vito's and get good service and great food. I think these issues may just be a 'Mt Washington attitude' as I have experienced similar arrogance/lack of service at other Mt Washington eateries. A shame cause I live in Mt Washington. read more

Great local spot! Just discovered this place last night. We were looking for some good food quickly at a late hour and Pepe's fit the bill. We ordered around 10pm and the order was ready in less than 15 minutes. The food: We ordered an Italian cold cut sandwich, which was great! The bread was soft and fresh. There was a decent amount of salami, ham, and ham cappy and just the right ratio of meat to bread and vegetables. Nothing overpowered anything else. It was mild, so if you're looking for something spicy you'll want to go with a different sandwich. We also ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a side of fries. The burger was so good. It was well cooked, sat on a delicious toasted bun, and had a pile of bacon on top. The fries were thick cut and crispy. Next time, we are going to try some pizza and chicken boxes, which we watched other people eat as we waited for our order. Apparently they are pretty great too! read more

Ordered lunch today 3cashiers were on when I arrived around 2:15 2 were waiting on customers 1 seemed to be counting register when the 2 finished waiting on customer the pregnant cashier walked away leaving me standing there she went and took a drink from out the cooler than came back asked another customer that came in after me if she could help them so I said can someone check if my order is ready giving a hint that I had been waiting then the other cashier started waiting on someone else so needless to say I walked out very poor customer service read more

Have to agree with Randall H. Not sure what is going on with them, but I can't remember the last time they got an order right. In the past three times I've ordered, I've gotten a turkey sandwich without cheese, a Caesar deluxe without the grilled chicken, and, last night, a Greek salad with undercooked chicken. Like pink inside. They brought us all new food and refunded our money, but this is just happening too much lately. There are so many other places that deliver that I can't recommend them. read more

I frequently order pizza for delivery from these guys for my youth group, and yes they tend to be rude, rude, RUDE! The pizza is ok...larger than say boli's, and a little cheaper. Stopped by the remodeled Pepe's with my wife and nine month old daughter. Ordering at the counter is simple enough but when we went to the dining area we were met with dirty tables, dirty/broken highchairs, and dirty floors. My cheeseburger was not memorable. It was a cheap frozen patty you get from the grocery store heated up on a grill. My wife's chicken Parmesan was pretty good. I would not recommend eating at Pepe's until they deal with the dining area's cleanliness. Ever since the awesome renovation, the kitchen, front desk and food quality has been a let down. Ordering a simple salad takes forever, the cashiers have entered our orders wrong, made them for take out instead of eat-in, forgotten items for carryout. And for two weeks in a row, the kitchen has crafted a simple Greek salad with raw chicken. First time, had to throw away the whole salad and this time (tonight) when it was specifically requested to be completely cooked, guess what, got home and raw again, tried to to microwave it, but again a trash can special. NO offer to replace, refund, no apology. So after all the expense of making the place look better, the reason poeple arrive: food, speed and quality, is a compelte breakdown. This place has been delivering to me for years and I have never had any issues with the food or delivery. I usually tip on the CC ahead of time so I don't need to make any contact with the driver during COVID. For whatever reason the driver said that he didn't get a tip added to the CC and ask if I wanted to leave a tip. I explained it should already be on there and if not I can tip him now. He then went on to ask me how much and when I told him how much tip I asked to be added at the time of the order, he said its not worth it and drove away. He didn't even give me a chance to give him more if he he was not satisfied by the tip, not to mention the fact again that I have been ordering from here for years. I understand it is tough times out there and everyone is struggling, but at least give me a chance to fix the situation. Love this place! Never have eaten in the restaurant itself. Today I ordered 17 individuals to go that was taken correctly and efficiently by Brittney. When I arrived Brittney greeted me with a smile and happy to assist me. The staff at Pepe's were organized like a well oiled machine from the cooks in the back to the Ladies at the window bagging the sandwiches and making sure everything was there. Out of all of the pizza places in the area, I would suggest somewhere else. In the past have ordered a variety of items from them including pizzas and fries. I have been going to Pepe's for pizza at "least" once a week for the past 4 years. I recommend their pizza to my friends and if I go to anyone's house for a party, I take at least two pies! With that being said, I don't know who is back there making pizzas but the pizza quality has significantly gone down in the past few months. The ingredients are still good but it seems like they are thrown together and there are empty spots because the dough is not properly aerated. I've made pizza for years and they used to be pretty solid but I've been embarrassed and pretty angry lately. I will be speaking to a manager because I think it's an easy fix ...training! The food is..... Mediocre at best and what I mean is that I, Sean, has had better tasting food from roach coaches. To say the least the food isn't always the thing to make you come back some times it can be the service with a smile! Other then service it could be the speed in which your meal is service or just the entire transaction. Pepe's is consistent. I know what to expect every time. We usually order pizza, subs, wings (order the breaded, NOT the wingdings) . Their hot sauce is hot, tastes like Pete's Redhot sauce. They have the good chicken tenders, light breading with mostly meat. The one issue I have with Pepe's is the parking. Their lot is always full and the overflow lot at Tropicool is a mess. People park where they want, regardless of whether there is an official space. So be very careful. read more

So I see there are two Pepe's listed, but they are the same... I used to live in Mt. Washington and had Pepe's pizza on speed dial... they delivered and the pizza is great. I since moved out of that 'hood and on a recent excursion to Whole Foods decided to go sit in the restaurant. I suggest always ordering delivery. My wife grew up in Baltimore, so as a kid this was a regular spot for her. During a recent trip home to see family, she took me here for the BEST Philly Cheesesteak I've had outside of Philly. Great portions. My wife is kind of an HM customer...you know that scene in "When Harry Met Sally", where Meg Ryan orders everything off the menu? That's my wife. But the nice young servers patiently took her order without complaint. Unfortunately (I blame my wife's complicated order), her cheesesteak was made with green peppers she did not order. The waitress went back to the kitchen and straightened it out, and they made her a fresh sandwich without complaint. The restaurant is pretty small and every table was occupied during our visit on Superbowl Sunday. Thankfully Pepe's is currently expanding it's restaurant. The only downside: no alcohol. Holy toppings batman! I ordered a deluxe pizza and it came with tons of toppings. I know that the deluxe includes everything, but so many pizzas that I get at other places have such sparse toppings. I have come here several times since the renovation and each time hope the service will be better. ITS NOT. Honestly the slowest service you could imagine. Beware If you come with kids be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes for food. Food is above average for certain items, but nothing special. Came in the other day at 12:15 for lunch, and they had no fried chicken cooked yet. No apologies and told me next time to call first to see if it's ready. Ridiculous. To me Pepe's has soo much potential, but the service is continually terrible. The food is always at worst satisfactory and sometimes outright delicious. Since the renovations there is plenty of seating. Once you have your food, there are no real complaints that I've ever had. As for the service, Pepe's is continualy some of the worst service I ever get. Of the probably 30 cheesesteak subs I've ordered at Pepes probably 5 have had the correct toppings on it. Between getting my order wrong, and the confusion of whether they bring the food to you, or you get it yourself, the service continually falls between a D and an F. I went into Pepes for the first time on 8/14 for lunch, they were so busy, and they're was no many seats left in the dining area. I ordered breakfast right before they stopped serving it at 12:30 and it was so good and delicious. The one employee that rang me up was running food and on the register. She was tall, brown hair with side braided hair was so sweet to me and talked me through the big menu that Pepe does have. It's so many options! Their pizza is pretty bad- super doughy and tons of cheap, greasy, chewy cheese. I won't ever eat at the restaurant again though based on the insane amount of waste. When you eat there, they still put the pizza in boxes (couldn't they just bring them out on reusable pans?), plus the soda cups and all the plates are styrofoam. Then add the plastic utensils and all the paper napkins and the four is filled half a garbage can with our trash. Too wasteful and the pizza is cruddy! read more

The pizza here is pretty good. This is one of the 2 places I will go for pizza in the area. I can also recommend the blueberry pancakes for breakfast. They have a surprisingly extensive menu for all three meals. You won't go back here for the atmosphere... But the food is worth a return trip. read more
