I ordered my tire online and made an appointment for the following day for the tire replacement. Since there's not an option to pay online, I stopped by in person to pay for my tire since I was going to have someone else drop off my car. When I got there, I was told I couldn't pay for my tire in advance because that would be illegal for them to close out my work order without conducting an inspection of my vehicle, in case additional services were needed upon inspection. I informed them I had prepaid for my tires many times before at other stores, and never had any issues. They told me those places were breaking the laws. I cancelled both my order and appointment and went across the street to another reputable tire company who took my payment in full without any issues. read more

Service here used to be rather good. Needing an unexpected repair over the weekend and or regular shop being closed. To say that the employee at the counter was rude and unprofessional would be an understatement. We knew exactly what was wrong with our car and he kept arguing. He flat out refused to make the repair that we asked for. Instead he pushed over $1500 in work that weren't connected to the problem we were there for. Knowing we our car didn't need the work he was insisting on, we left. We went to a different shop that was open and they did exactly what we asked for, charged us $300, and our car is now perfect. read more

Terrible service provide when paying $500 plus for new tires. Front desk associates were all rude and could care less and seem upset that I'm there to give them business. Upon picking up the car They completely scratched the wheels and the new tires they put on looked old and dingy. I noticed after they closed since they were so rude I just wanted to pay and leave. I went for a new battery and Roman at the counter was helpful, but a bit impatient when I questioned him about how long it would take to get the correct battery if they ordered it. My car was parked in a handicapped spot and they moved it into the bay from there, with the handicapped placard in full view. The battery showed up sooner than expected and was installed right away. I thanked Roman for making things happen so quickly. When I went to get my car, I saw that it was parked far out in the parking lot, about as far as you can go. There were lots of open spots, but I felt it was done intentionally. I asked the two people in the bay area if they could move my car closer as I am disabled - they were not busy, they were on their phones. Their response to my request was to turn their backs to me. I got to my car and called Roman inside and told him that it was really shitty that they had done that. He absolutely did not care. I will never go back to this location. This place is pretty big but very empty inside, they have more tire out on the floor than seats. Even their beloved Pep Boys decor is sitting on the floor. My appointment started with them notifying me that the tires I ordered six days ago are not here but did not inform me prior to arriving. I also had made an appointment but they seem to not find it in the system. Luckily the clerk told me they could switch my current tires for another set they do have in stock that are similar in price and quality. The one thing I wish they had is a bell or something that informs the employees that someone is in the store, seen multiple people come in including myself and have to wait until somebody decides to peek out and notice they have customers. Still waiting for my car past the estimated time of an hour but hopefully the work is great so I don't have to be here longer in the super cold lounge. After the almost three hour wait they stated that we would have to come back tomorrow to finish the alignment. Lucky the technician remembered us and took us in first. He was really nice, informative and possible the reason the stars were not lower. Will try out again another time as it's the closest location to me, hopefully the next experience is better. read more

I had my tires changed at Pep Boys, but after the service I started feeling abnormal shaking in my car while driving. When I went back and asked them to check if something was wrong, they said the tires needed rotation and fixed it. The frustrating part is that they had already charged me for tire rotation during the initial service, but it clearly wasn't done properly. The experience made me question the quality of the initial service, and it was frustrating to have to return to correct the issue. read more

Took car in for oil change and tire rotation. They said they wouldn't rotate my tires unless I bought two new tires that it was illegal to rotate them. I told them the tires I bought from them with less than 10,000 miles how could that be true? Then they charged me for fuel service that I didn't authorize. Funny part? They did rotate my tires after they said they were unable too so they were trying to scam me for $500... waiting on corporate to call me back. Be careful total scam. read more

I had one of the worst customer service experiences at Pep Boys in Monrovia. My girlfriend and I had just come back from a long trip to San Bernardino when we found a hole in one of our tires. Luckily, this Pep Boys was still open, or so we thought. What followed was a masterclass in how to waste a customer's time. We talked to them multiple times, and they kept stringing us along like they were auditioning for a soap opera. After about an hour and a half of back-and-forth, they waited until it was almost closing time to hit us with, "Oh, we don't have time to fix your tire... but we can help you put some air in it." Sweet! thanks. After that much time on a deflated tire, I left with more hot air than the tire did. Easily some of the worst customer service I've ever seen in the car world. read more

Worst location I've ever been to! I went on July 6,2025 in the evening because I had a bolt in my tire, the manager had an attitude from the start and was far from friendly. Even though I didn't have a great experience I was still willing to give them my business but while I was filling out my information the manager told me I would have to leave it because they had cars ahead of me being that when I got there there was only one car being worked on and two other employees just sitting around on their phone. Terrible service and customer service. Staff is rude and unprofessional. Brought my car in to fix a tire leak for tires under warranty, and ended up waiting for hours only to find out that my car had been ready for who knows how long. Staff never bothered to notify me. By the time I got home the tire was flat again. Came back the next day and the staff was just as indignant and dismissive as before. Will not be coming back and caution any prospective customers about doing so--just go to a real tire shop, this place is a scam. Update: after taking my car to another, much better tire shop (the far superior America's Tire) they pulled a giant screw out of my tire, (which the staff at pep boys falsely claimed to have done already) and actually patched the leak in my tire while telling me that no other patch jobs had been done prior to the one they performed. I chose Pep Boys because I like their logo of the three little men. I bought my tires at Pasadena location and they told me I'd get free tire rotation for the life of the tires. Unfortunately there seems to be some sort of company-wide miscommunication about this promo, as when I returned to Pasadena for my free rotation, they tried to charge me $10 for it. The gentleman wouldn't budge and his Assistant Manager was on an hour long lunch break and was not available to help me. I called the 800 customer service number, and the man on the phone also was not able to give me a clear answer about the policy. Then I called the Monrovia Pep Boys and Adam told me to come over here for my free rotation! Adam seems to have a good understanding of company policy. Thank you Adam! I am in the waiting room right now. There's no free coffee which would be nice. But I do like the smell of tire stores. And they're playing Blink 182. Made an appointment the day prior because my car needed an oil change and I wanted to get the brakes inspected. The customer service was good. The guy at the front desk was friendly and knowledgeable when it came to answering my questions about pricing, the difference between regular oil vs synthetic oil, etc. It took them about two hours to do the oil change and the brake inspection, which was surprising because when I showed up they were only working on one car and I overheard them talking about how they had numerous appointment cancellations prior to my arrival. He was friendly helpful and most of all professional. I had an appointment for 9:30. Thinking because of the holiday they would be busy and not helpful. It was exactly the opposite. I got there around 8:55 and when I reached for the door at 9 it was open and a friendly helpful man greeted me and asked great questions and wanted to help me. I had an appointment for an oil change at 10:30, was told that I would be called back in a couple hours. The car was not ready until after 5:30 the same day, and when I called around 4 they told me they hadn't even started work yet. They also added a fuel treatment service without telling me. Also, my check tire light was on when I took the car in. Before picking up the car they sent me a report saying that there were no dashboard lights on, however the check tire light was still on when I left. Will not be taking my car here again. read more

I had an 11am appointment for a battery check for a 48 mo battery purchased 2 years ago from that location. When I arrived before 11, I was told it would be a 2 hour wait to assess the battery since 2 other cars had come in that morning (why have an appointment system), and without looking at the truck, was told by the manager, Johnny, it was the alternator or the starter, not the battery. Frustrated, I went for a walk and about 2 hours later was called to say it would be $1,094. For what? I asked about the warranty on the battery and he said the useful life had passed so it was full price. At this point, I brought a friend with me who used to own auto shops, who reminded them about the battery purchased there 2 years ago. Suddenly the alternator and starter are fine and the price is $54. They mentioned the 2 front tires needed to be replaced and after my friend looked at the tires and after checking around, their price was similar so I agreed to have them replaced, since we were there. They said it would be an hour to an hour 20 min tops. We came back in 1 1/2 hours and the truck was still in the air without new tires. We were told they needed another hour to replace tires and do the alignment. In 20 minutes I get a text the truck is done. We went inside to pay and my friend asks for the Specifications and they say they can't provide them ...but could email them later. My friend drives vehicle down the street, and immediately turns around as the steering wheel is crooked and it's pulling to the left. We hand them the keys and ask to call us back when it's actually aligned. At 5:39pm the truck is finally finished. The specs were provided this time which showed before (out of alignment) and after (in alignment). I felt very taken advantage of as a woman trying to get a simple battery test. I arrived with a nail puncturing my tire. Over three long hours went by as I watched the staff work on what I hoped would be a solid fix. But just a few days later, reality crashed down around me when my tire started losing air again. To my dismay, I discovered that they had merely inserted a flimsy, temporary bacon strip plug. I understand that they may be understaffed or the demand is high and may be busy due to demand, but over 2 hours with no updates, for only an oil change is outrageous. The poor workmanship and documentation on my Audi Q7 was unacceptable and baffling. A simple tire rotation and vehicle inspection were completely missed by Service Manager Adam Lewis and mechanic Brian C. Received text message (not the promised phone call) that service was done. I could probably go on and on, but will warn you to avoid this location until serious problems are fixed. Vehicle information in report was completely wrong (address, service date, mileage, work description ... first sign of poor quality). At pick up, told tires were rotated and have "SUGGESTED REPAIR": Replace cabin air filter and engine air filter" and battery state of health 9? Summary: I marked the tires so I know they weren't rotated, I personally replaced both air filters literally a week early, so I know they weren't truly inspected, manager lied to me with his reviews and inspection work, and finally .. told by another anonymous Pep Boys manager that this located fired all their employees for poor work. They just have too many complaints, so they can't get the job done. read more

I brought my VW Jetta in at around 9:30am for a coolant leak and they were able to diagnose and repair the issue within the same day. Cobe checked in with me throughout the day by phone. He was so polite & respectful! He explained my car's issues and gave me the repair cost over the phone. When I arrived and there was an error in the price quoted, he was able to resolve the issue within a minute and was so helpful. Shocking incompetence. We took our car in for break pads and an oil change and they neglected to put the oil cap back on causing oil to splash all over the engine. How is it possible to forget the most basic step in an oil change? And if they can't do an oil change correctly, they can't do anything correctly. read more

I've given this location many chances because we have been going to this location for at least 20 years! It poorly managed now. There's no point in making an appointment because they don't have enough mechanics to service many cars. Oil change appointment at noon, wasn't even started to until 3 hours later.... And that's because I called in asking what's the hold up. A rude associate was very rude on the phone and making up policies and insulting my intelligence. The manager was very nice, but just gave me a bunch of excuses as well. Last time I went on an early appointment and the facility wasn't even open. I was waiting in the parking lot watching the opener arrive 30 minutes late, while a few workers were sitting outside waiting to be let in. They don't honor appointments so don't bother. Now I'm not sure from what the gentleman I spoke to if my car was properly serviced because they rush to get me out of there. Don't risk it! Last time we go there. Sigh, BF and I had higher hopes for this place and after the latest visit, we definitely won't be back. BF noticed his car was veering slightly towards one side so he brought his car in to get it checked. He didn't have an appointment, but he brought it to Pep Boys at 9 am, ready for it to take until afternoon if needed. Pep Boys said it could take up to 6 hours, so we got a ride home by a friend to do other things. We got a call at 2 pm from Pep Boys that an alignment would be required. We were cool with that so we told them to go ahead with the service. We did not hear anything at all from then on. BF got concerned around 5:30 pm as they were set to close at 6 pm that day, so he called them. No one picked up the phone at Pep Boys. He later got a call at 5:50 pm and was told the car was ready and he had to get to Pep Boys to pick it up before they close at 6 pm. What?!?!? They were only giving him 10 minutes to get there?!?! How did they expect him to perform that miracle?!? After further discussion, the Pep Boys employee then said they can wait an extra 10 minutes for him, but they have to close the register by then. BF rushed there and had to explain the situation to the person there as the register was already closed. (WHAT?! They said they were gonna wait.) The front desk person was nice enough to release the car after BF told the employee that he needed his car tomorrow, as no one said it was gonna take more than one day to get service. After this fiasco and headache, BF still returned the next day to pay for the alignment and found out the car was only slightly askew based on the results report and didn't even need an alignment. Pep Boys was the one that suggested he do the alignment, so it felt that they were just trying to get more money out of BF for a service that the car didn't need yet. BF was given a 20% discount for the inconvenience (though for all the grief we received that day, we totally could've not returned to pay and hence get a "100% discount"). But after this treatment and the questionableness of Pep Boys' expertise (telling us we needed an alignment when the report clearly states it was not needed), we are going to skip further supporting this local business and go elsewhere for our vehicle needs. This was the second chance we gave Pep Boys too. On our first visit, we needed some fuses for the portable car cooler and they gave us a recommendation of something similar because they didn't have the needed fuse, saying the alternative would be safer for the car as it will not overload the circuits. It did not work. Their suggested product actually broke as soon as we replaced the fuse and plugged in the cooler. We had to go elsewhere and spend more money to get a replacement. Expertise my butt. I needed tires for a Mazda 3 I just bought and was under time pressure. Even with 4th of July "sales", good deals were hard to find. Pep Boys had reasonably priced tires in stock. I placed the order and made appointment on line. Total was $454.72. When I arrived I was informed that I had to purchase "alignment" for at least $120. Supposedly "free mounting" but had to pay $60.04 for balancing, $4 for "TPMS rebuild, "service kit multiple apps" $43.96, "tire handling charge - pep boys" $12. At least $61 in junk charges, and $120 for "alignment" that I did not want and was not sure was even done. Supposedly they inspected "everything" - brakes, suspension, fluids - but I was given no verbal report. i was just sent away after paying $609, over $150 more than I was quoted on line. Also, tires are supposed to be mounted with the painted dot aligned with the valve stem - these were not. The only positive was that the tires appear to be of good quality (though I have never heard of the brand), and tires and appointment were available on short notice. read more

Not sure how this place stay in business...there was basically nobody in the front of the service center to help you. It was like a ghost town. I waited for 20 mins and never saw anybody. I even made an appt with their online schedule but that's pretty much useless since no one works in the front. Pep boys lost my business. Adam is amazing!! I had to stop in unexpectedly because the car started overheating. Estimated time to fix was 3-5 hours but Adam was so kind and efficient, everything was in perfect working order in about 2 hours. They first told us that the front break drum needed to be replaced, then it became the rear drum. I got suspicious, and it turned out that the data indicated that none needed to be replaced. At a second time, they told me one of my tires needed to be replaced because a blade got embedded in it. I later checked that there were no blade. The people here lie a lot. But I do give them some credit. At least they didn't fake the data, nor did they put a blade into my tire. read more
