We were recently very fortunate to have our vehicle serviced under the direction of Luke at the Chico location. We had been having some ongoing issues with the vehicle and our experience at Pep Boys was not going well. Then, Luke came on board, was very responsive, very knowledgeable, and, best of all, took complete care of our problem. I also very much appreciate that my teen daughter was able to go in later and advocate for herself and her vehicle because she felt comfortable with and heard by Luke. She insists on having no one else take care of her Jeep now. We can wholeheartedly endorse the addition of Luke to the Pep Boys store and recommend him whenever we get the chance. read more

The crooks at Pep boys also loosened a valve, letting the power steering fluid out completely. As per our current mechanic we found all of this out. He said if we didn't come in when we did to fix what they caused, attempted murder, we would have died. They are lucky they are only getting a bad review, not a summons for a wrongful death. My experience is very similar to the more negative reviews. Went in on an Easter Weekend as a walk-in to get 1 rear tire changed. They were courteous & said it would take a while as they were understaffed & it was a holiday after all. I head home knowing it won't be soon. I's only until the last hour before they close the do call. They said they didn't work on it. I go to pick it up with the thought of going some where else tomorrow, but they recommend me to set an appointment for the next day. I do exactly that since I want to give them a 2nd chance. Next day, I arrive a bit early & ask how long it'll take. They say 45 min, which is lingo for more than that, so I head out to go watch a movie nearby & come back later to see if it's done. I see that the car is still in the parking lot & not even worked on. I go ask again, they say they are behind & will be getting on it soon. So I decided to go see another film. I finish & call this time to get an update. The person on the phone was courteous too, but it took them 10 min to give me a status update. They say 15 min & I'm like okay thanks. I get there by 15 min & see that they just finished my car. Okay, good. Finally we do simple paperwork & Bob's your uncle. So as objective as I possibly can, this was my experience & I'm only giving them a 3 bcuz I'm giving a leeway for being understaffed, they apologized & at least finished it. If the wheel has problems then I'll write another review, but it's a mixed bag for sure. read more

Do not go as a women. They have told me a price and then when I go to pay they had a whole new total that was an insane amount. I ended up paying the original agreed price after making sure they heard me that they are wrong, I had choose to go to them bc unfortunately they were the closest. My second time I had to go the the second time I went there was when I needed a battery late at night once and they were the only place open. They ended up charging me close to $400 for this battery. The third time is, I realize my tire was breaking open while I was working nearby so I called around noon to make an appointment for 645 when I got out of work and I could arrive by that time and he assured me they had my tire and that would be fine even though they close at seven that they have my appointment to just come on in after work, Only to find out there was no appointment for me. The girl at the desk said oh no, there's no way we could do it. They absolutely wasted my time. I could've made an appointment elsewhere And just I will never ever I don't care. I will be stranded before I ever contact that company again. read more

Absolutely do not recommend. I go in there to get an oil change (use my own oil and filter) just pay for labor. Had my air filter replaced. Fast forward after a few miles my car started to act funny take my car in (to a DIFFERENT MECHANIC) to figure out the codes to my car. Turns out there is NOTHING WRONG. Pep Boys was Lazy and didn't put the air filter in my car. They tossed it in, causing my car to have check engine lights. If I could give them a 0/5 I would. This damage would have cost me $986 plus the initial inspection $100 total around $1086. It was just really hard to believe that there were 7 codes in a perfectly serviced and maintained car. read more

Worst experience ever. Made me pay for second evaluation on AC and did not fix after paying $475. Took back and they wanted more money to fix the same thing. What did they "fix" the first time? Now they are asking for additional $700 to fix. $1200 to fix AC. Will never use Pep Boys again. They are fraudulently charging customers. I have a big mouth and know many people. I should have read the reviews before booking an appointment for a smog inspection. I'd booked the appointment a week in advance and, upon arrival, was told that they would "get to me" by the end of the day. Being that they close at 7 pm and my appointment was for 2:30 pm, it meant that I would have been waiting upwards of 4.5 hours. Nope, I wasn't willing to do that. I was told that other customers who came in before me needed repairs to their vehicles and that's why it would take them so long to get to my car. Well, then what's the point of making an appointment? One of your mechanics couldn't break away from a repair job to simply test my car for smog, which takes perhaps 15 minutes? Especially when I had set an appointment? Some people take off work or rearrange their day for these appointments, but Pep Boys in Chico apparently doesn't care. It's absolutely unreasonable to tell a customer who showed up for their 2:30 pm appointment that they will be taken care of at the end of the day. No excuse. read more

I had a very unfortunate experience while trying to get my car smogged at PepBoys. I left my car with them in the morning and was told they would call me when it was done. They did not. As the end of the day neared I had become frustrated with their answering system. It would repeat how "very important" I was as a client and then put me into a holding pattern. Never could speak to a person. So, I got a ride down there only to find my unlocked car parked out front next to the road, keys in the ignition and the windows down. I had a difficult time finding out the status of my smog certificate. The technician was "unavailable" and I finally got to talk to a manager. He told me that it had passed the emissions part of the test, however there was a piece of tape on one hose that failed their "visual" inspection. I asked if I could bring it back after I "fixed" it and he said I could, however it would cost another $50 plus certificate fee. That whole fiasco cost me $50 and almost a full day. It has been my experience at other shops for them to speak to me about the reason it failed and an option to fix whatever the problem was. Not here. So, I went to another shop, popped it on the machine and I got my certificate ... for ANOTHER $50. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but whatever it was I left feeling like I got ripped off by an indifferent staff. read more

This establishment was the only one that had the tires I needed in stock for my C300 and at a better price than any other shop. They did not disappoint in quality as my tires were replaced in average time with the plus of them taking pictures and looking over other maintenance. Joe even took care of fixing the guts off a messed up tire inflation nozzle magigger without messing up the sensor system. 10/10 recommend. read more

Honesty is a priority, if you don't wanna do the job just tell me. After going 2 times to have shocks put on my truck (forgot first day during tire installation...yeah). They had the truck till early afternoon and was informed the front shocks I had would not fit. Really you guys were behind and didn't want to do it. I needed new wiper blades for my Toyota Camry, went into Pep Boys and I was promptly greeted by Kevin aka Too Tall, you could tell he likes his job as when he helped me he was genuine and not just in a rush to get me out the door. Kevin showed me the diff options of blades that were avail for my car, he did not just go to the most expensive product but gave me my options, I opted for the best they had as I am on the road quite a bit, I then asked if someone could help me w installing the blades, they told me just to pull up to the service center, a nice gentleman assisted me even though it was raining, I had a 5 star experience throughout. It was nice to experience genuine, kind and helpful customer service, my customer experience was due to the human touch provided by Kevin, it is rare To find such people, we all work to be able to pay the bills but we at times forget what value as workers we provide to the customer, Kevin gets it, treat him well and maybe have him train new staff, if you do this you will save on marketing dollars as your customers will keep coming back, this type of experience is what I expect now from Pep Boys so he has set he bar high. Took my 97 ford 7.3 liter in a few months ago to check out my check engine light and also look into the AC unit as it was blowing hot air. They quoted me for the replacement of 8 glow plugs, 4 wire harnesses, and with gaskets right around $1200 the AC I was told needed to be completely replaced due to leaks. That was going to be another $1200 I figured that I could wait as nothing was a must. Now I have taken in my truck to a local diesel mechanic, he had completed all the work( glow plugs, 3 ujoints, charged AC unit) and more for around $2200. The thing that got me was the fact that the AC unit just needed to be charged.... no replacement of parts or a $1200 fix that Pep boys quoted me. I will no longer be wasting my time with them, and I hope that the people that read this will also find local mechanics that will be honest and fair. read more

My wife experienced a radiator fail in the parking lot of Pep Boys and needed some immediate assistance. The store was exceptionally busy, but one individual--his name-tag said Tall-One (accurately), came to her aid and assessed the problem and the needed fix. I arrived on scene to find him with tools, clamps, tape, etc. at the open hood of the car with a suggested plan of attack to patch our leak and get us home until a new radiator could be installed. His customer service approach--"This is your store; I just work here"--should be the norm in customer experience. I don't know this guy's real name, but he "gets it" and I wish there were more like him in local retail and service industries. He's the kind of employee I want if I own or manage a business, because he cares and creates relationships that inspire return business. When you get a 30% off coupon for an oil change and free tire rotation, it's the best deal in town... HOWEVER... it doesn't matter if you make a service appointment here, check the box that you'll be waiting for your vehicle for said appointment when setting up the appointment on line, and show up on time... the same thing happens EVERY TIME: "We're a little behind on service today. We don't have that many techs, so the wait will be a little longer than usual. 2-3 hours. 2 hours minimum" Today was the last time I'll do business with these folks. This is the 3rd time in a row. You'd think that if you had an appointment that it would be common courtesy to call your customer and say, "Sorry. We're running behind today. I hope that not a problem. If it is we can reschedule you"... but no. Never happens. read more

Go to Jiffy Lube. Here's why: I've gone to Pep Boys about 4-5 times for an oil change. Always takes a lonnnng time. But I would just plan my day around it and deal. One time however, I dropped my car off at 8/8:30 in the morning in order to have it done before work (3pm). Fast forward, 2 pm comes around and I haven't even received a call giving me an update. So I Uber there hoping they're finishing up and I come to find out the dude just started. He finishes up within 25 minutes, I am comped the whole oil change because the manager/ lead mechanic realized that it was a ridiculous amount of time to wait. I thank him and leave but doesn't end there unfortunately. My car starts acting funny. Car keeps revving while idling, fluctuating between 1/2 and 1RPMS. I called back immediately to tell them about it, but the guy acted like the problem was probably not because of them and I could bring it in for it to be looked at and charged. A few google clicks later I found that it is easy for a careless mechanic to disconnect an air tube while changing oil. I look up a video on where to locate it, open my hood and find that the hose was indeed disconnected. I put it back together and my car went back to normal after a couple of days. Funny enough this was the SECOND time they messed something up on my car, last time they broke off a piece of whatever holds the oil filter. I came back and they fixed it but still, you guys are a pain in my butt. Lots of inexperienced/ careless mechanics. Jiffy lube I was in and out in less than 30. Zero issues. read more

So I had an appointment and dropped my car off- had someone come pick me up... Came back two hours later as the woman at the front desk said it would be about an hour and a half to 2 for a simple oil change. My car was in the same location and had not been moved. No one called me or let me know. When I asked what the problem is, he said they got backed up at lunchtime. Very inconvenient and unprofessional. When you set an appointment for 9:00 AM on-line 8 days in advance, it's automatically cancelled the morning of at 9:48 AM (when you car is already there). Then, our vehicle sits for the "entire weekend" untouched in their parking lot for over 24 hours with no phone call (on their end) with no updates or current status on your vehicle?. Our phone calls to them went unresolved. This equals going early this Sunday morning - extremely upset, irritated and speaking to management, which got "no place" because, they couldn't do ANYTHING for us on Sunday -in getting the part (heater coil) that needed to be replaced. Which ended with unhappy customers who will take their business elsewhere! *Poor customer service, no control over the Corporate website to book and cancel their local appointments? Worst customer service EVER! There is no communication between the service dept and the customer. I've tried twice now. The last being the other day for an oil change. Had an appt, showed up, no one greats you, you are left standing outside mumbling do I go in to check in or does someone come to the car? On the off chance you've said it loud enough that an employee might hear... I get a go inside to check in. Great! Go inside just to wait 15 min at an empty desk for someone to check me in... forget it! The employee outside who answered me was too busy holding a little box with an auto part for a mechanic to man the desk. Then when she does walk in, she grabs her energy drink and walks back out. I was caught in a bad situation. Toyota performed an oil change service for me, and made a note on my document from the technician that they couldn't rotate my tires due to low tire tread. When got there to pick up my truck, the service center was closed. No one called, no one asked a question, nothing. I go check out my tire, and it's completely bald. Considering I had to drive an hr and a half home on hwy 32, this was very DANGEROUS! Thank goodness Pep Boys was still open! When I called and explained, they agreed to take me in for new tires even though it meant staying open late. So grateful to a service team who actually cares!! Coming here for service day forward! So let me start by saying I have not written a review in a while, but this place made me extremely upset! I would give no stars if I could. I made an 8am appointment 8/3/2022 for a oil change. I got there at 7:45am and checked in. When the guy checked my car, he said I should also get a wheel alignment. I said ok. After that things pretty much went downhill. I sat in their dirty, dusty, spider web inhabited, lounge area for over 3 hours waiting for them. Staring at the board over a broken water machine with 2 layers of dust, that said PEP BOYS and "EXPRESS SERVICE" (my ass). Sometime after It had already been over an hour and a half they called me over to tell me about some dirty filters that "should" be changed at $50 each. I declined, as I thought if I had said yes I would have been waiting till the end of the day for them to find and install them. So I sat back down and waited some more. It took them 2 hours to do an Oil change!! They are slow as molasses. At this point I started to realize I may need to use the restroom at some point (as I am 8 months pregnant). But I didn't see a sign and frankly judging from the cleanliness and look of the building I was scared to even ask about it. So again I'm waiting. I ask the guy at the desk how long it was going to be, and he says oh they are finished with the oil change the alignment should be about 30 minutes. Ok I figure I can wait 30 more minutes. FIFTY MINUTES later he walks back in to tell me that its taking so long because whoever did my alignment last time didn't blah, blah, blah and that's why its taking so long. First off if there was a problem shouldn't you have told me that right when you started the alignment not 50 minutes later!! Needless to say I didn't believe a word this guy was saying at this point and told him I wanted my car. I told him I would pay for whatever they did so far just get my car! I will never go back to this establishment ever. Over 3 hours for an oil change and wheel alignment with an appointment I was early for!! I couldn't believe it. I paid and they handed me my keys, I wobbled out of there to my car as fast as I could and didn't look back. I feel like the staff doesn't care about the customers, (but they made sure to offer those $50 filters to almost every customer that came in I noticed, because everyone's filters where dirty I guess ). This place is a total rip-off ever since they changed to service only. They charge literally twice as much for parts as any other part store, and they get the parts from the same part stores anyone else would. I can understand a bit of markup, but when you charge 100% retail markup for the exact same part you get at Autozone, that's a ripoff. read more

I just want others to be aware! I recently made a appointment to get my oil changed at this location, as with all of these types of businesses they try to up sale things to you. They showed me my air filter and said I needed a new one, it was torn and looked like someone squished it. (I have attached photos) First of all your air filter does not get squished while in its compartment, secondly I just had some work done on my vehicle 2 weeks prior and they said my air filter was getting dirty and I should probably get it changed soon. They did not say it was damaged and needed to be replaced. I did report them to their corporate office, I did not feel like the corporate office took this very serious. read more
