I've come here a few times with mixed results, usually leaning towards the not so good end of the spectrum. From erroneous info about parts over the phone, to being overbooked, too busy/understaffed etc after scheduling an appointment. Honestly, the only reason I came this time was at the advisory of my ex who had the car inspected here last year. So crossed my fingers and I booked the appointment online a day prior. I arrived about 10 to 15 minutes before my appointment and check in at the desk. I was the 4th person in the waiting area. All seemed to be OK at the moment but quite a few pieces of information were skipped over by the guy at the counter. He chatted about just returning from having covid, which cought me off guard, especially since he was maskless. Long story short.... this is how I spent 4 hours at this place. * Constantly spoken to like a "girl", assuming I knew nothing about my car or anything else. * Made to wait 2.5 hours while they located the person to do emissions tests/inspections (overheard a confirmation phone call) * Had them request my spare key, since they "misplaced" my master set * Offered to sent me home in a cab to keep my car overnight for a 45 min repair * Quoted me a price of $1200 for a $500 repair * Attempted to tell me I had a brake issue (recently repaired) * Had to wait to be "chosen" to inquire about my vehicle. * Exposed, and infected with Covid-19 * Spotted poorly handwritten price markups on popular items Needless to say...... I took my car on October 26th and was recommended a new set of tires and brake rotors. I then picked the car up that evening and drove it to my garage. Two weeks later, my garage let me know I had two flat tires and the car would no longer start despite having gas in the tank. I towed the car back to Pep Boys last Thursday. Since then, service advisors have been promising that I am "next in line" every single time I call (multiple times for the past few days). They did issue me a "complimentary vehicle inspection" which reports multiple issues (surprising given that Toyota inspected the car just a few months ago and found no problems), including cracks in the tires they sold and installed a few weeks ago and the need for a wheel alignment (odd given that I was charged $100 for this when they worked on the car in October). There appears to be zero urgency or accountability. I actively recommend against using this shop's services. read more

A total of clown show. Go to the one in Queens. One time i sat around an hour because they hadn't communicated to each other to look at my vehicle. This last time (and I mean last time) i bought 4 new tires. They put 2 different sets on the car. I caught their mistake and then, 2 weeks later one of the tires is defective. Even getting a refund was a joke; 45 minutes to get it because their register software wouldnt work. Avoid st all costs or it will cost you. Had a 1pm appointment for my AC and showed up on time. Waited for my car all afternoon till approximately 5:00pm to be told the machine that recharges the AC "just broke"!!!!!! Needless to say my car sat the whole time just to be told that because it doesn't take that long to run a diagnostic to begin with!!!!! So I would suggest calling before you book any appointment with them to ensure their equipment is in working order!!!! read more

Three weeks later, I received a traffic citation because a traffic camera clocked my car doing 45 in a 25 IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL OVER A MILE AWAY FROM THEIR LOCATION!! I'm not often moved to write a review but the customer service I received tonight at this Pep Boys location was so profoundly different ( and disappointing) than the service I received ten days earlier at a Pep Boys about a mile down the street (LIC) that I feel it's warranted. My driver side window is having issues and needs to be seen and repaired by our service center, which I discovered when it wouldn't roll up on my way to work initially. I took it to the LIC Pep Boys, and they charged me the fee to diagnose the issue and were nice enough to do a quick (temporary) repair by cleaning the little window motor for the fee of the diagnostic. It was about $65. Today, while waiting for our service appt at the dealership, it happened again. I dropped it off to this Pep Boys fully prepared to pay the fee to fix it now because its enough already, but was told it would be 350 just to assess what the issue was, which I had already shared, and then whatever it cost to fix it. I asked why the cost was so incredibly different than the $65 I had just paid for a diagnostic but didn't receive a real answer.i turned down the work. At this point, I was home and could not retrieve the car as my infant daughter was sick and already asleep for the night, which I shared with them. I asked if it could be put in the garage till I could pick it up first thing in the morning since the window wouldn't go up. They said no. i resigned to asking my husband to tape it up when he got home from work (two hours after closing) and we would move it from the lot in the morning. Got another call. It would be $75 to leave in the lot unless I wanted to come get the keys right then. I explained again that I could not wake my sick kid up to come get the keys, tape up the car, and find a parking spot, and asked for some understanding. I didn't receive it. I'm really disappointed and am suggesting that you look elsewhere, like the Pep Boys in LIC, if you find yourself in a jam. read more

I came here for a 9am apt, arrived early at 830am. I was here for over 2 hours waiting for an oil change. I don't understand, it's an oil change, not a full car remodel. At 11:15 I asked, and was told "it'll be ready in a few mins." What is the point of making an appointment if it's not going to be honored? Never again am I visiting a Pep Boys location- they should get their shit together as a major company. I did not read the reviews prior to coming in to get our car inspected and it was a huge mistake. $400 down the drain without any actual work completed on our car. It sat in the shop for over a week. They lied to us all week saying the car would be ready every day. STEER CLEAR - even if you need to wait a day or two to see a more trustworthy mechanic. Went in to get my tire checked they told me my tire just needed a new valve got home and my tire was flat. It wasn't a valve there was a tear in the tire. They never checked the tire properly. Also, they did a inspection and told me I needed a oil change, which I didn't need because I had one the day before . Also charge me $80 for this inspection and for the new valve this was a rip off and it was very unsafe to have my daughter driving the car like this. I will never go back to this Pep Boys. I have a fleet vehicle which is basically just a fancy way to say company car. This morning on my dashboard it showed I needed an oil change. I went to pep boys around 10am to get the car serviced. I had been there before for an inspection and to get my oil changed so I was familiar with going there. I was told that it would take about 3-4 hours because they needed to get prior authorization before servicing the car. That was the standard amount of time I had to wait before so I told them no worries and told them to just update me when my car was ready because I was going to head home in the meantime. I gave them 5 hours and called back at 3pm and asked for an update. I was told that they had just taken my vehicle in and found that my tires were in "bad condition" and needed to be changed. Keep in mind I only have about 12,000 miles on my car and just had my car inspected back in July. I wasn't aware that they hadn't already received prior authorization for this, but I explained I need my car ASAP in order to work. Also side note, I was never called or notified that my tires needed changing, which if they had told me beforehand or if I have known they didn't get the authorization yet, I would've said I would come back another day. I was told that it would be ready before 6pm. At 5:15pm I call again and speak to someone else and now I'm told my car won't be ready until NOON TOMORROW. This is when I really express how angry I am and the timeline I was originally given and AGAIN that this is a company car and I need it to work and I literally cannot do my job without my car. They told me there was nothing they could do since they needed the authorization and hung up on me. I went ahead and called the customer service line to complain about the experience and I was told that it would be escalated and would receive an update. After that, I was writing an email to my boss explaining the fiasco of today and why I was unable to do my job because a simple car servicing is now taking 26 hours since I can't get it till tomorrow. While I'm writing this email, I receive an update text from Pep Boys that they did a courtesy inspection on the car and that's how they found my tires were in "bad condition." I just had my car inspected in July!!! There was no reason to do another inspection or for them to service my tires without letting me know first. I will never be coming back to Pep Boys. They have lost my business. They are trying to milk the company that handles billing with fleet vehicles so they can get more money out of them. Do not go here. read more

I brought my car in to change a tire and was told that the brake pads needed to be changed. I typically do that kind of thing at the dealerships, so initially declined. The mechanic/manager insisted that I change the brakes because the car wasn't safe to drive. I said yes and asked how were the rotors. He said the rotors were fine, just the brake pads. They were also going to perform a wheel alignment. When ai picked the car up after paying like $700, the steering could not stay straight. I had to drive it at a slight angle to the left to keep the car straight. Also, I heard both a grinding and drumming every time I braked (believe it was the front) which indicated that not only was the rotor being contacted, but something else was going on. I took the car back with the intention of getting a refund, however the manager, David, was able to do a great job helping me out. He took the car and promised they would resolve all the issues at no additional cost to me. He even followed up throughout the day sending me photos of what he found and what they were going to do fix it. When I left, the car was working just as it should and I was super pleased with the service he provided. I would honestly go back only if David is working. He even followed up the following day to ask how the car was doing. Giving 3 stars because of what happened in the first place, and then what David did to resolve everything. Without his help, this would definitely be a 1 star review. Only had the car for a few days at this point, but will follow up if any issues arise. read more

I've been going here for 15 years and never had a complaint. The last time I went for an oil change and the state inspection and they called me telling me brake rotors needed to be replaced. I replied that they had replaced them 11,000 miles ago and I couldn't believe they were already worn out. The mechanic insisted I needed new ones, but I didn't let him do it. I took my car to a mechanic I know personally, but is unfortunately 90 minutes away, and he told me the rotors were perfect. I don't know what is going on at this Pep Boys, but judging by the recent comments on Yelp, it sounds like I'm not alone in feeling ripped off. Every attempt to rectify this situation with the garage and with corporate has gone nowhere. The short version is that I paid $3000 and wound up broken down on the side of the Jersey Turnpike LESS THAN TWO HOURS LATER BECAUSE OF POOR WORK THEY DID. Not only that, they charged me for services I didn't need and services I didn't ask for & wasn't told about. I was passing through and broke down in Brooklyn on a Sunday. I had it towed to your Pep Boys location on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn because it was the only place I could think of that was open on a Sunday. I told them the problem as I knew it. A belt had slipped. Eddie (I think that's his name; little fella with a kissy lips tattoo on his throat) told me I needed a new power steering pump. He then tried to sell me tires, LIKE THE TIRES WERE KEEPING THE CAR FROM RUNING. No, I said, I'll take care of the tires. Some time later, he let me know that the engine light was on and that I needed a tune-up that was going to run $400. That seemed high, but I was in a bind. I had no idea that this not only included the necessary work of dealing with my spark plugs, but also changing my air filters. My cabin air filter (which I changed myself in August) didn't need to be changed to get me home. All it did was boost Eddie's commission. There was also a bad gasket. Fine, that should have been repaired. I was told the price, $2000. My eyes bugged out of my head, and Eddie swung his screen around for me to look at it. I had no idea what I was looking at and he didn't explain anything. Have you ever seen the screen of the software Pep Boys run? In this case, it was red and blue, and if you're not familiar with it, it's hard to read if this is the first time you have seen it and you are under duress. Later, they showed me that there was a bad spark plug coil and that it would cost an extra $350 to fix. They didn't explain what that meant. I can't afford this, I told them, and I'll just limp it home. No one said "You can never get this home like this." Instead Eddie offered me a 10 percent discount on this final bit of work. I can't afford it, I repeated. He said "Okay, so you're refusing the work?" and we settled up. I got two blocks away and realized that I wouldn't get home. The car was misfiring badly. I drove it back and they took it back in. By Tuesday afternoon and an extra thousand dollars, three thousand dollars lighter, I made my way home. I was just glad the ordeal was over, and I had a 3 hour rush-hour drive ahead. Less than two hours AFTER I LEFT THE GARAGE WHERE I HAD JUST SPENT $3000, I was pulled over on the side of the Jersey Turnpike with the same misfire. When I took it to MY mechanic, they pointed out the unnecessary services your garage provided (new cabin air filter? How exactly did that help do anything but line Eddie's pocket?), as well as a charge for a "limited service warranty" that I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT, and never would have taken because I live 120 miles away. Also, they told me that one of their mechanics over-tightened the spark plug, cracking it and causing the misfire. If it hadn't been a Sunday, I would never have chosen Pep Boys. If it happens again, I'll leave the keys in and abandon it before taking it there again. They are no better than thieves who gleefully took my money for screwing up, and they have done NOTHING to make it right. Do not EVER, EVER take your car to Pep Boys. Costco can put tires on your car. A small garage can change your oil no problem. Even the shadiest small mechanic wouldn't fleece you this badly. read more

This location used to have really solid customer service. Attentive, timely, eager, kind, but now, honestly, it seems like no one cares. I've tried (read: tried) to get an oil change here twice in the last 6 months and even though one customer was ahead of me, it took forever to be spoken to. Lots of "running around" but definitely not a lot of doing here. Also, I'm not sure if the employees understand the gravity of a pandemic and protecting customers and their fellow employees but not only do they just pull up their masks (under their noses) when in sight of customers, they PULL IT DOWN TO SPEAK TO CUSTOMERS. My Toyota Camry has a slow leaking air tire, and the tire pressure light was on, added air but the light will not go off. Took it to Pop's Boy store #1702, Scenic Highway, Lawrenceville, Georgia. Here we go: 1. The technician could not find a leak, ignored the tire pressure light, and said it was the cold weather, so there was no need to fix anything. Fact: One tire was leaking air. The air pressure dropped from 30 lbs to 20 lbs in one day. Returned to Pep's Boy Auto Service the next day, Found two tire pressure sensors that were bad, and changed both. but could not find the leak. Replaced it with a new tire. 2. Meantime, they did an oil change. Fact: Next day, I found a pot of oil on my garage floor under the car engine compartment. I took it to the nearby Goodyear auto service. They found the bolt of the oil drain tank was not tight, it was leaking oil. How many stars will you give to this auto service? read more

Judging by the rest of these reviews, I guess I got lucky. Either that, or people didn't take the two seconds to do some research online. If you want the best experience, I recommend the following: 1) Do yourself a favor and make an appointment online. You can pre-fill some forms instead of relying on staff to get your info down on their archaic looking computers. 2) Research tire prices online and find out what's available in store (the site lets you check local inventory). If you see any discrepancies, let them know and they'll happily price match. 3) Check for coupons or weekly specials. They'll honor whatever you can find online. With that said, I made a 4pm appointment for a tire change/alignment on a Saturday. Parked the car in one of the reserved spots on the side by the garage, then went inside to the service desk. I chose the tires I wanted (the online inventory was slightly different). They adjusted the prices based on the current sales and online prices (buy 3 get 1 free), and I was also able to get $10 off the alignment due to a Thanksgiving deal they had going. All told, it was under $500, which is pretty good. There's an open waiting room with a ton of seats, a TV, and free coffee from a Keurig machine. There are worse places to be waiting in the winter, for sure. And then almost exactly 1 hour on the dot, I received an email saying my car was ready (another perk of signing up online). I went to the front desk, paid, and then was on my way. Super simple. No problems at all. Last tip - Bring a book to read. Or some podcasts to listen to. Or just browse electronics at Staples next door to kill time, or go to Arts & Craftsman Supply across the street to look at art stuff. Or go down to 5th ave and get something to eat. read more

What a surprise! From the commercials "Pepboys" was top notch in auto supplies. I walked away thinking I walked into the wrong franchise. My work vehicle needed a new battery. My boss gave me instructions to pick one up. I looked for the closest location to me and Pepboys popped up. I figured, it's in Brooklyn, has a parking lot, and offers great service, what could possibly go wrong? When I arrived it was nice to see the parking lot was quite large. After making my way inside I noticed it's also a mechanic shop. They service cars and do general maintenance. But that's were my excitement ended. Looking for help was a task. No one walked up to me and no one was available. I even stood next to a employee to get his attention, he never even looked at me. When I left the service counter, I made my way to parts. There was a man their and he too never looked at me. I asked him if he could help. He said under his breath "yeah." I told him what I needed and he went to work looking. He walked me over to some pile of batteries. One he offered me was covered in something and I was reluctant to take it. He took me over to some different batteries and I grab one. He walked me over to the counter and disappeared. another customer and myself waited. No one showed up to help. We didn't know what to do so he went to find someone. The same guy who helped earlier came over and took me. But was annoying when I told him I was tax exempt. I went outside to get my paperwork and he gave me to a guy who knew little about doing the form. They both walked away and I waited till the manager came. He came over, helped me, and I was on my way. I was so disappointed in my visit. I will try another Pepboys to see if I get a similar experience, but so far it's not looking to good. read more

Absolute trash. Went in simply for an oil change and a tire rotation. Truck was running absolutely perfect. Zero issues. The man told my fiancé he should get new breaks. My fiancé told him that he would address that soon at a later time because we were in a rush. The man was extremely rude and unprofessional and kept pressing the issue in a disrespectful trashy, manner so my fiancé was going back and forth with him and ultimately did not get the breaks at that time. They did NOT do the tire rotation. Ever since we left there we've been having multiple issues with our truck. A problem with the computer, it is not shifting, it's leaking oil. We are taking it to the dealership as we have been waiting forever for an appointment. But Pep Boys will be seeing us again really soon to fix what they've done for sure. This is the second time in two years (I know, I'm also to blame) that I have made a state inspection appointment and come in to be told that their inspection machine is down. The employees also told me that they prefer not to either disable inspection appointments while this is the case, or call anyone with an inspection appointment to tell them not to come in-just in case it happens to work when they show up. read more

I took the opportunity to arrange a tow truck to the recommended place to fix a flat or replace a tire first thing in the morning. Was delivered to Petboys on 4th avenue in brooklyn around 930am. Me thinking this would be the quickest way considering im going on vacation and have alot to do. Hours later, they said they have to replace the wheel as well as the tire pressure gage. Costing $$$. They wouldnt release the vehicle until fleet approves or denies. Meanwhile, was told the vehicle would be ready in 15min after the approval. I arrive an hour later and it's still not ready. Was then told to come back in 30 minutes. Its 530 now. (Follow up to come). Ok, it is now 635pm and am still waiting in the parking lot. My issue is not so much that it is costing my employer a large amount of money, mind you, they are not happy with the service either but the fact that I literally am spending an entire day worrying about getting the vehicle back. Wow, I wish that the Yelp reviews had steered me away. We took a Chevy van for service, ended up paying an arm and a leg so that we could drive it back to MA where it belongs. The van was due for inspection in MA, so the day after getting the van "fixed" (rack and pinion steering, brakes) by Pep Boys on 4th Ave., we took it for inspection in MA and it failed for the brakes. We had just had the brakes fixed and brake fluid changed. ARGH. So, we took the van to the Pep Boys in Springfield, and they said that the brake fluid was very old, had not been changed, and that the work we paid for had not been done. We were driving a van with no brake fluid, though we had just paid thousands to fix the brakes. I would NEVER go to Pep Boys on 4th Ave. again. And, now we have to worry about whether they actually fixed the problem we took it in for, the steering. Very scary. read more

It was done about 4:00 but I had to wait till 4:30 to get my car keys because the mechanic disappeared. Another fun fact is they wanted $1600 for brakes and rotors. This is double what you would pay at a regular mechanic. I had it done the next day for $800 in 1 hour at a gas station. I might just post some pictures later. read more

I ordered a tire and had it delivered here. They were wonderful. They told me the rim was cracked. Very professional. They referred me to a place to fix. I would definitely come back. Very rude and unprofessional. Went for oil change and then stripped my plug or oil pan thread. Refuses to own up yo it. Oil dripping badly. When I call for supervisor I was put 9n hold for more than 25 minutes. After calling again and explained my issue the young lady went silent in phone for more than 10 minutes before hanging up on me. The are hustling and playing games. Do not go there. read more

I don't even know if they did the wheel alignment on my car since they didn't give me any before and after printout of the alignment. The guy at the service register said that their printer didn't work. They were closing so I didn't make a big deal. Next day I had vibration at highway speed. I know tire balance causes it. But because the day before that when I had the tire balance done somewhere else and I watched the guy doing the balance, and because at pep boys I have no proof that they actually did the job, I went back to pep boys and told them the issue I had and explained them how I wasn't given a printout. They gave me appointment for the next day for realignment. On the third day I went there again. They kept me waiting 3 hours. After one hour I went outside to see what's going on. I saw that they parked my car somewhere else. And I waited two more hours going in and out of the store to check the car if they move it again but no. 2 more hours my car stayed there and they kept me waiting like that. When I finally wanted to asked what's going on, the guy at the register said that my car was ready. My car didn't move anywhere for the last 2 hours. If my car was finished when they parked it to its final place 2 hours earlier, what took 2 more hours? I wonder how much they enjoyed keeping me there waiting like that! All I needed was a wheel alignment with the printout. It cost me 3 days and I still don't know what kind of a job they did. I don't know if I really needed wheel alignment since they didn't give me the before printout. And I don't know what kind of a job they did because they didn't give me an after printout! It was my first time at pep boys and I never had such an experience anywhere else! On the third day they gave me a printout even if one of the guys said earlier that the printer didn't work. And the time on the printout is 3:26pm. I had a 4 pm appointment and I walked in the store at 3:40pm. Then he told me that I had 1.5 camber. If that's so, why no one told me that on the first day? No feedback at all on the first day? Why is there no before printout on the printout? When I look at the wheel alignment printouts on the internet, none of them looks like this. For all these reasons I am never coming back to pep boys! read more
