My son drove in from out of state for the holiday and his check engine light came on, with two other dashboard lights. Our regular mechanic was closed for the holiday, so on glowing recommendations I called Atros and explained our situation. My son's car had been having electrical issues, so we didn't know if the check engine light was serious or just an electrical malfunction. And we wanted to know if it was safe for my son to drive back to school or if he had to have the car serviced immediately, if the problem was very serious. We brought the car in on Saturday morning and they tested and evaluated the issue. And they were fantastic. Advising us upfront of the potential costs and scenarios, and after a comprehensive evaluation, they told us that the check engine light warning was legitimate, but not dangerous or of immediate concern, and that the car was safe to drive and would make it back to my son's school without problem, where he could take it to his mechanic. All of the work performed was done with the utmost professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency. The pricing was extremely reasonable and there were zero surprises. Have to add a short update: before we headed out for a 2-week, thousand mile road trip up the coast to the Cape and to Downeast Maine (read "Far") with the tiny Honda packed to the gills with camping gear, clothing, and two precious kids, we took it into Jerry Atros and company for a going over. They charged me only for the oil change I'd asked for, and fixed some other things (a loose heat shield, lube and fluids and etc) without charging or really even mentioning it. I came here based on the other great reviews on yelp. I paid them take a look at a car that I wanted to buy. During the inspection, the owner mentioned that there were ocassionally problems with the starter. After the inspection, the mechanic said that he hadn't noticed anything wrong with it, and that I would have to pay him more to look at it. Based on his assesment of the car, I bought it, and immediately found that the starter had engagement problems... like 1/2 the time. I took the car to another mechanic, who diagnosed the problem for free.. (the previous owner had installed the starter improperly). The mechanic said that had the problem gone further it could have damaged the flywheel. It was a $300 repair, and had I known this, I may have negotiated a better price on the car, or I may have not even bought it. Everyone else here seems to love this place, so maybe he was just having an off day, but I thought I should share my experience. **** I'm updating this review on May 20th, and dropping my review to a 1 star. A friend of mine heard me start up the car, and he said that it sounded like I had a hole in the exhaust system. I had always noticed that the car sounded like it ran a little noisy. I took the car into another mechanic, and he said that I did indeed have a hole in the exhaust.. and it needed immediate attention. It was another expensive repair. So my friend diagnosed something by just *hearing* the sound of the car that these guys missed when I paid them to diagnose the car. 1 star for you. read more

My check engine light came on last week and I took my car to Atros after reading the reviews on yelp. I was able to drop my car off immediately (I called and dropped it off 25 mins later) and the car was ready the same day. I know nothing about cars, so I always get nervous that the mechanic is going to rip me off, but I felt very confident with this shop. They didn't treat me like an idiot or give me a creepy vibe (like many shops do because you're female and feminine-looking). They just hooked the car up to the computer which gave them a code that meant it was likely just a fuel cap that needed to be replaced. So, they just charged me a small fee for replacing the fuel cap. They said if the light comes on again, then they'll do more tests, but that they didn't think that was necessary for now. So yeah, I feel like they won't rip you off here and they're very nice. I'll definitely go back here again ... the other reviews on yelp are on par with the service I received. read more

A great, trustworthy mechanic. Of course, I can never afford to do everything to my car that needs to be done, so he broke down what I needed immediately and told me how much to save up for in the next 6 months to do the rest. Very helpful. Quick service, able to do emissions testing, nice manager (who, frankly, in three visits, is the only person I've talked to there!), empathetic (hey, no one likes when they have to spend $ and time on their car and the BQE has claimed many a victim). One warning: you need to drop your car off FIRST thing in the morning. If you get there even 15 minutes late (I think they open at 8, but check with them), their small garage might be filled and you'll have to come back another day. I did this once, but since I live a few blocks away, he called me as soon as there was room in the garage (around 3 oclock) and I drove my car over then. highly recommend them. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences here. Mike is honest, hardworking, professional, and does his best to turn cars around as quickly as possible. My '97 Toyota Avalon needed an oil change and an inspection. It had been running strange and the check engine light was on. I was also in the middle of moving to a new apartment... Car trouble combined with moving is my version of hell. I called Atros based on its close location to my old apartment and its good reviews on Yelp. They said I could drop my car off anytime and leave the key with a note in their mailbox (a luxury which another auto place reviewed on yelp would not afford me). They called me promptly at 9am the next morning saying they got my note and would check out my car that day. It turns out i needed some new sensors in order to pass inspection - so I told them to take care of it. At about 4pm my car was ready to be picked up. They are conveniently located 2 blocks from the subway. The service was excellent, they were very professional, and I would go back in a second. read more

After a rough introduction, (it was cold, I was standing outside, he was taking his time opening up the garage), I was quickly won over by the efficiency and no nonsense of the situation at hand. Namely, my busted clutch on my Integra. Mike, told me to leave it and he'll call me when it's ready. He calls me with a decent price (HALF of what I was charged in Manhattan a few years ago on the same problem) and all is well. I decided to give them a try.The first time was in the summer of 2011 and they did a great job of replacing all the old hoses and other parts I needed to prepare my 2001 Jeep Cherokee for a very long trip that that I wanted to be trouble free. Recently I brought my Jeep back to them again for more repairs and I was very pleased with the work. I even forgot that I left a large screen LCD TV in the back of the Jeep and it was there untouched when I got the vehicle back. After perusing yelp pages looking for auto mechanics in Brooklyn and coming up empty, I swore I would write the review following my visit to the shop. Alas. I definitely had 5 star service at Jerry Atros Motors. Jerry, the owner, is very helpful, friendly, and really nice. As a female driving a 1995 Honda, I think car mechanics see myself and my car as an opportunity to score some extra cash. So, after the car was diagnosed (needed a new ignition switch), I began my inquisition to determine exactly HOW he had discovered the problem, and WHY it was this part, and not something else. I think I caught him off guard when I asked him point blank "How did you determine the problem was related to the ignition switch? And how did you rule out other potential problems?" Following which, we talked about the ins and outs of auto repair, and at the end of my examination I knew he had been honest with me. It was only a $250 fix and my car stayed at his shop for three days (because of my schedule, not because of slow repair - he had the car fixed within one day). He also stayed late to let me come pick up the car a few minutes after closing. And extra stars for giving me the old ignition switch as a memento. ha! He is a bit out of the way, but it is well worth the trek. read more

My boyfriend's Land Rover was having an ongoing issue with overheating, and after having two mechanics screw him over to the tune of about $700 combined, I took matters into my own hands and yelped it. Seeing great reviews, I called this place and spoke to someone who said he could bring it in the next day, which he did shortly after 8AM. He called later in the day to say he was going to try the thermostat, which was pretty cheap, and if that didnt work he'd call again and it would have to be the radiator (which is not cheap.) After hearing nothing, we called him the next day and he said the car was finished- he ran it for 2 hours with no overheating and the total for the thermostat was $80. My boyfriend picked it up and said he was really nice and seemed like a straight shooter, and for $80 including it being there overnight I'm impressed. I'll be taking my mazda there when/if I ever need work done! read more

Jerry at Atros is not only a great mechanic, but he is just a good guy. I don't give reviews too often but I am making a point to do so after having a great experience, and I want to spread the word so people know who to go to for auto repairs. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I have been taking it to a good mechanic in Greenpoint for a few years. He was recently stumped by the fact that my oil indicator light kept coming on after replacing the oil sensor. Well, after 3 trips to this guy and not having the problem solved, I finally took a shot at Atros. I talked to Jerry on the phone before coming in and he said he would look at it, which he did and we discussed the problem at length so he really took the time to find out all the details. He suggested that it might be because the part that was used was not a dealer made part, and we would start there. Well, sure enough it was as simple as that. He was extremely helpful and bright and I really regret not finding him sooner. Prices seem on average to be fair, but not cheap. He knew that I was going on a cross country trip so he recommended a few extra items, like cleaning out the debris from the drain lines, changing the steering fluid, and polishing the headlights with a kit to make them clear again. I ended up paying about 400 bucks but I really trusted him and recommend him to anyone who has been looking for a straight up honest guy who knows what he is talking about. Thumbs up! read more

Took it to this place based on the reviews, for a car inspection. I'm new to Brooklyn. The check engine light was on. They told me what the code on the check engine light was and how they can fix it. Great, the repair now costs about $400. Picked it up thought it was all fixed. Also, let me just mention that they parked my car on 4th and I got side swiped with a giant scratch on my drivers side. Fantastic, "Ok" I said to myself, things happen. What I also thought was dodgy was that in all my invoices the odometer in number was wrong, the car was driven for a bit after the check engine line was reset. It has to, in order to pass the inspection. I was assured that the light would not come on again. 2 Days later the light comes on again. I take it back, "oh it must be the gas cap". Wait, you charged me that much for something COMPLETELY different now you think its the gas cap?! He resets it, sends me on my way. The light is still on and I know I can probably get them to look at it again, but I can't. I dislike incompetence. I rather try my luck elsewhere. read more
