Top Notch Auto is the BEST Mechanic in the Area! I recently had an emergency situation with my car battery dying on Thanksgiving Day, and I couldn't be more grateful to have found Top Notch Auto. After doing some research, I learned that they were the only shop open, and I was lucky to have come across them, even if by accident. The customer service was outstanding from the start. The staff was extremely friendly and understanding, and they didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary services like I've experienced at other places. After getting the battery replaced, they also diagnosed a bad alternator, and the repair was done quickly and affordably. They even fixed a loose gasket on my muffler and replaced my oil pan, which made a huge difference in how my car runs. I've been to Pep Boys in the past, but their prices are sky-high, and I never felt like the service was up to par. Top Notch Auto, on the other hand, was not only way more reasonable in pricing but the quality of work was impeccable. My car now drives like it's brand new--even with 110k miles on it. Mohammed and the team at Top Notch Auto are hands down the best mechanics I've found since moving from Manhattan to Park Slope. I'll be coming back for all my future car needs without a doubt. He may be a good mechanic according to other reviews, BUT...... Very poor management skills. I had an appointment to bring my car in, when I arrived he said he is two busy, bring it back in a couple days. NOT HAPPENING.... Now I lost my parking spot and rearranged other appointments for nothing. Forums another mechanic same day after this happened and he said give him 45 minutes and he will take care of it. Mohammad is the best! We have been taking our cars here for at least 10 years. Before that we took them to several different auto shops in Brooklyn but none of them were comparable to this one. Muhammad is always very reasonable in his pricing, and he never tries to overcharge. And he always stands by his repairs as well, if there is a problem in the future he is always happy to check back on it and fix as needed. I was a tourist in Brooklyn and had a car problem. My daughter found this place on google with 4.5 stars. All I could do is hope that I could get the car fixed and be taken advantage of. Mohammed fixed my car and well within range of a price that my mechanic had said was what he would charge. This mechanic fixed the car of a customer he would likely never see again and did that repair at a very fair and reasonable price. This is the kind of business I would frequent if I lived here. This place is fair not the greatest but yes it is fair Mohammad tries his best. But they do the work, and they do not give you an estimate first. If you are on a budget like I am that is a huge problem.  Also very difficult to find parking here like sometimes almost impossible.   I cannot give five stars because although they are very fast and good not knowing a price beforehand, and just being told it is done can cause a problem. Thank you fellow Yelpers for leading me to this local business. I needed a tune up on my car after my warranty expired with the dealer. I had no idea who to go to (and to trust without being ripped off). The business owner was courteous when I called, gave me a reasonable base price quote, and said I could drop off my car the next morning. He had my car tuned within a few hours. Reminded me that my inspection was about to expire, and also called to advise me that the brake pads needed to be replaced and wanted my ok before he proceeded. That's all the issues he found with my car. I took a road trip a few days later and it's running great. It doesn't look like any of the smaller details were missed. Fluids topped off, tires rotated... things I sometimes had to remind the dealer to do. I plan to return. read more

Exactly like the name says. TOP NOTCH!!! I had my car towed to Top Notch after I tried everything I could myself to fix it and it wouldn't start . The car arrived at the shop at around 4:30. Right away the owner (who's name is escaping me) told me to pop the hood so he could have a look. He knocked on the starter a few times while I tried to start it and it started right up. He concluded that I need a new starter, which I agreed with. It is now 4:40 and he is making a phone call to get the part. He then tells me the part is $110 (completely reasonable price for a starter for my car) and that the labor will be $85 (again, completely reasonable, one hour to fix the car at $85 an hour) and that the car will be ready in 2 hours (one hour for the part to be delivered, one hour to fix the car). So I leave the shop and come back at 6:40, and lo and behold, my car is back in action! Unbelievable, a mechanic who was completely honest from the jump. A mechanic who looked at and diagnosed my car right away. A mechanic who had my car fixed within 2 hours of receiving it. What planet am I on right now?!? I HIGHLY recommend this shop to anyone in Brooklyn who does not have a mechanic that they trust. I moved here about a year and a half ago from CT and have not been able to find a mechanic that I would recommend to anyone, until now. I have brought my car to Mohammed for state inspections for years. I never had them do a major repair until last week. Working on a BMW is never easy and the parts one uses determines whether the BMW remains a BMW and drives like one. Mohammed diagnosed a very difficult problem (and most mechanics would not have not been so thorough). I know cars and thought I knew what the problem might be it at least what it wasn't. I was floored by what the real problem was. Before he started the repair, he called me to show me exactly what needed to be done. He ordered OEM like parts and the repair was done in a day. When he was figuring out prices for the parts, he pulled the numbers out of his head and gave me an all in price which I accepted. When I went home I checked his parts prices on the internet and he was spot on for all of them. In sum, Top Notch figured out the real problem and fixed it for a fair price in a reasonable time. After trying many, many garages in the area, i was recommended to try Mohammad @ Top Notch. They are more than a field hospital for all the livery cars in the area, they really know what they are doing and they do it affordably. Their turnaround is superfast and they don't try to upsell you into stuff you didn't ask for. My AAA tow driver recommended this place to me. He said that I would save a lot of money over the place that I had been going. Mohamed is a nice man but not a clear & direct communicator. He took my car and told me there was a broken pulley. When I called to come for it, he told me the timing belt needed replacing and the time & costs involved. After it was completed and I arrived to pick up, I find out there's hefty surcharges for using a debit card rather than paying cash - something never mentioned previously. My total was nowhere near the original quote - it was hundreds higher !!! I am very disappointed. I guess I had hoped for an honest mechanic, not more slight of hand. read more

I had to get my oil change and I went to a place my dad recommended. They wanted to charge $120 for my BMW . I did a little of research online and found this place . Mohammed has provided me with great service at great prices, and doesn't gouge his customers. Quite the contrary, at times he has fixed little things he has found along the way without even charging me. My experience has been that he is very honest. I have an innate distrust of most auto shops because of some bad experiences in the past, but whenever I've asked a friend who owns an auto shop out of town if I'm getting a good price, he usually says that what I'm being offered is in fact a great price, especially for the city. Plus, Mohammed is a very likable guy and a pleasure to do business with. To the person who complained about the way someone answered the phone when she called- give me a break. Have you ever tried answering the phone at an auto shop with all kinds of power tools and other noise in the background? You should be ashamed for giving a poor review to such hard-working, honest people- ESPECIALLY when you've never had any work done here! Go back to whatever bridge or tunnel you emerged from. Pur car Broke down around the corner from this shop and they were the most helpful and nice. They diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes and the car was ready at 8am the next day, even though we broke down after 6pm. Their prices are fair and all the men working there were extremely nice and friendly and helpful. This will be the mechanic we go to from now on, even though it's not In my neighborhood. So in full disclosure, I've never gone here. Why? Because when I called, the guy yelled "HELLO!!!!!!!!!"...I asked if this an auto repair shop (he seemed annoyed at having to answer the phone)....he said "YEAH, GzzRRRZZ HOLD ON" then hung up on me. I called back twice, he never picked up the phone. Really? REALLY? My own feeling on this is "aw he!! no!", and I'd give you negative stars, but my friend really swears by this d1$%, so I'm guessing you're having a bad day. Too bad, I was looking for a new mechanic. I feel like Goldilocks and the 100 Bearish Mechanics....you know the story, every shop is "this Mechanic is too expensive", "this Mechanic doesn't know his wrench from his elbow", "this Mechanic is a scary Bear and hates women". Where's the mechanic that's just right? I've been searching for 25 years, I think it's actually harder than finding an apartment in this overpriced city. Got my muffler changed for $200 bucks which is way less then I've paid on a different car in the past and was way less then I was expecting. One thing I didn't like was that they didn't tell me the price before they did the work, they just called me at work to say it was done. Luckily it was not a problem. Mohammed is really friendly and honest. Very happy with his repairs and pricing. Considering the volume of cars he gets in a day, the turn around is very fast. I had compared pricing for 3 independent repair shops and I thought his prices were excellent. Had my timing belt, water pump, engine mount done using my own parts. He's okay with you bringing your own parts in which comes out even cheaper, although you're gambling a little since you're not getting any warranty with the repair. ALSO in the event you're missing a part he'll have to order it anyway and the car is sitting on the lift waiting for parts. Which is wasting lift time for him to take in another car. Don't expect very many auto repair type shops to have a good rating, but I can see why these guys have 4.5 stars. I came here and dropped off my Jaguar to get an oil change. I didnt have to wait long at all, they were able to replace the oil, filters and it didn't cost nearly as much as what the dealership wanted. I think the guys here did a wonderful job and I'm happy with how things turned out. I plan on having this company replace my rotors and pads here in the near future. read more

6 pm, Monday. I emerge from my job (I work in a public school) to find a ticket on my car. What for? I was in a legal space. Aha - inspection sticker expired. And my wife needs to drive out of town tomorrow for two days - accumulating tickets each time she parks on the street. It's 6:45 by the time I'm back in Brooklyn, and Top Notch is the only place open (but they close at 7). They kept the place open to finish my inspection and didn't even try to charge an overtime fee, which I would have happily paid. I'm not from nyc and was stranded during what should have been a weekend trip. My front brake line burst and the fluid lit my whole driver side engine area on fire as soon as it made contact with the manifold. Was super nerve racking, though I put the fire out easily. First mechanic I went to saw the out of state plate and burn marks and tried to bend me over for a whole new front brake system (calipers, pads, brake line, etc), at a premium labor cost. Told me I'd be putting my life at risk if I didn't replace everything. Luckily I know a few things about cars and called up Mohammed after seeing the reviews. He gave me a quote over the phone that was soo much more reasonable than the garage I was at. I had the first mechanic lower my vehicle and brought it to Top Notch. It's 2pm by now, I told Mohammed I am not from the area and instead of taking me for a ride, he had his guys work overtime so I could be on my way same day and not have to rent a hotel. His guys also had to rebuild some parts not included in the quote he gave me, but Mohammed stayed true to his original quote and didn't charge extra $$$$. In a way, he was a hero that day. Arrived home to Boston with no problems whatsoever. Highly, highly recommend. read more

After searching for and calling near by auto repair shops the day of departure, we decided to bring the car to Top Notch after a surprisingly pleasant conversation with the owner in the phone. They fixed the brake quickly ( around 3 hours ) and charged us a fair price. I've gone here twice for my annual inspection based on the recommendation of a friend. Both times were excellent. I called this morning, the guy said he had time today, bring it in. I brought it in, he said two hours for inspection and oil change (he had a full garage); I stopped back after an hour-and-a-quarter just in case, and it was done, parked out front. I stepped inside, he gave me the key, told me what he had done, and took payment. In and out in under a minute. Excellent service like this should be rewarded. read more

These guys are unbelievable! BEST KEPT SECRET OF PARK SLOPE. I brought my car in to get my tires aligned and when I dropped it off, the owner said it would be $X. When I came back an hour or so later, he said, "we checked and your tires are fine." I asked how much it would be and he said "nothing." How many body shops are this ethical?
