These guys are great. They're incredibly friendly and helpful. I've been in a few times for various things. The thing that strikes me most is how honest they are. As an example, the last time I was in I asked them to check the spark plugs to see if they needed to be changed. I'd purchased the car around the 88k mark, and it was now just over 100k. When I went to pickup the car, they let me know that they checked the plugs and it looked as though they'd been changed recently and to check them again in another 10k or 20k miles. It would have been easy enough for them to just change them and tell me they needed it just to make a few bucks, but they clearly value their customer loyalty above all. I dig that, and it'll keep me coming back. read more

I'll add my review to the chorus of other positive reviews. I recently purchased a car (Subaru Outback 2014) in New Jersey. The dealer's mechanic did not do a good job of installing one of the new tires and it almost fell off the car when I was on the highway. A day later, I drop the car off with Dee and instantly felt better, he talked me through the work he was going to do and gave me an accurate estimate. His team re-installed all 4 tires and replaced the bent lugs on the problem tire. They also performed travel/safety checks to double-check every piece of the car the other mechanic touched. They are swamped right now with everyone buying cars, but they were able to get me back on the road and feeling more secure about driving the car. I wish I had just had Dee and his team do ALL of the original work instead of that other mechanic shop, but I'll definitely be coming back with any additional problems (I hope not too many!), regular maintenance, etc. Thank you Dee and team! ok, let me start by saying I am a prime target for being taken advantage of by a mechanic, I'm a blonde female who says things like "the thingamajig is making a funny noise". So I'm moving to California at the end of the month and took the car in to get checked for "anything and everything that could possibly be wrong". I called ahead and asked when the best time for me to bring it is was and you could already tell on the phone this guy was great. I bring it in Thursday morning and Charlie is ready for me and remembers my name & car, I tell him the tires have been making a grinding noise and one of the nozzles is broken when I try to clean the windshield & ask if he can check everything, even the spare tire because who knows! He's super friendly and lovely and says he'll check it all, I ask him how much to check everything and he waves his hand and says "I'll check it". 6 hours later Charlie has become intimate with my car and checked everything, tells me the fluids and belts and oil and everything looks great, he replaced a hose to get the nozzle to work, the grinding is a little bit of rust and no need to replace anything. Says it's $50 for everything. I'm shocked, this guy spent hours looking at my car. $50? you checked everything? the spare tire? "oh yeah" he says "I put a little air in the spare tire for you. Also, you left your phone in the car, I put it in the glove box for you." So, I'm already floored and ready to write a 5 star review, but THEN, a friendly older guy walks up to me while I'm waiting outside, also introduces himself as Charlie. This is Charlie's dad, also named Charlie. Asks how the service was, asks how my day is, tells me stories of raising his son on his own, how him and his son are now fixing cars for the great-grandchildren of his original clients, and how the neighborhood dogs all run in the shop to say hi because they know they'll get treats & love. I CAN'T EVEN. I tell him his son is not only incredibly nice and smart, but also attractive! If I was single I may just cancel that California trip. He's beaming proud, "not only that, he's a great sportsman too, mostly baseball, my son's a pitcher" If there was a hollywood movie about a father/son duo to fall in love with, it's Charlie & Charlie. This is my second time going to Parkside Auto. I agree with the other reviewers about them being very thorough and friendly, but I thought I would provide a review on their service in the time of COVID. It was easy to schedule a NYS inspection and basic service appointment (oil change/tire rotation). When I arrived and when I picked the car up after service, they were very diligent on wearing masks, making sure they put them on before they came to speak with me. Great place ! As we all know, it's not easy to find someone you can rely on and believe...at least not in this industry. People make things up, recommend some maintenance that is not really necessary, scheduling a change of parts which are still in good condition. Even my car's authorized dealer (i won't name it here, but it's one of the top 3 car makers) tried to sell me parts and services that i don't really need. Charlie is an honest person. He gives you his opinion and that is not motivated by selling a service or a product. If your car needs such and such parts replaced, because your authorized dealer told you so, he just tells you the truth that your car may not really need a new part for another 2000 miles or not until the next maintenance...His words don't carry to worry of selling a product or a service. Couple weeks ago, brought my car in for inspection and oil change. Also asked if they had a tune up package, basically said "what needs regular maintenance that I can pay you for?" They said they didn't have a package but would do a once over and see if anything needs work. Got the car back and he said it passed inspection, said he didn't think anything needed regular maintenance, it's 12 years old but in ok shape. A few days later I realized that a headlight that had been out for a few weeks before inspection was STILL out. Wondering "what did they really inspect?" Brought the car back in and they replaced the headlight. Went on a road trip a few days later. On the way back, battery and alternator die halfway thru Delaware at 5pm on a Sunday. Stranded on the hot ass concrete in a shitty part of town. Dropped $1000 on parts, labor, hotel, tow etc. and missed my first day of work the next day. These guys let me down. Not going to be doing business with Parkside again. read more

My review is a few days late but I wanted to be sure the work was complete. On a perfect sunny day my brake lights decided to quit working on me. Having received a ticket, and repairing it previously it still didn't work. My job is driving intensive and I can't afford to lose time being stopped every few miles for defective lights. I called in the middle of the day and was able to be seen, have my car repaired, and be on my way. The staff is courteous, honest and highly knowledgeable in their craft. I'm just someone who has his own mechanics out in queens, I go to one shop and that's it, because there's a level of trust professionalism made with years of rapport and the fact that it's a community based business. They were very kind and courteous, and told me it might take a couple of hours, so I killed time in Park Slope- which is plenty fun to do. I'm moved to write this review now because just earlier today there was a misunderstanding between me and Charlie regarding the cost of some service that was being performed on my car's a/c. Prepared as I was to pay the full amount, Charlie insisted on assuming the portion of the cost around which the misunderstanding had developed. It's when things go wrong you learn the true character of a company. Parkside Auto Care does decent mechanical work, but when they damaged my car things didn't go well at all. I brought my formerly pristine, 11-year-old Lexus to Parkside for radiator work. When I picked it up, I noticed a few small, sharp dents in my driver's door (see photo). A review of my dash cam video and impact sensor data showed that the damage occurred in Parkside's facility at 2:15pm on 11/23/15. I pointed it out and they accepted responsibility for the damage. I've had this kind of event with another car twice in the past, and those garages simply paid the repair estimate. But not Parkside--their attitude turned it into an unnecessarily difficult and contentious ordeal. Parkside suggested a body shop they know, but for which I could find little information and only 5 reviews, 3 of them negative. I declined and told them that I'd like to use Sam's Auto Body in Dumbo, a well-known, highly respected business that is an official repair shop for Geico, among other insurance companies. Their estimate was $952.98. I sent it to Parkside. In the message I received from Parkside's AOL email address, they DICTATE the terms of payment. Not suggest, not consult, but dictate in extremely patronizing terms that require me to assume the risk of the repair. They stated "Upon completion of the job and in accordance with the estimate, I will pay Sam's Auto Body shop directly. I will meet you there when you pick up your vehicle to ensure your satisfaction before payment is made." I replied to Parkside that I don't need them to ensure my satisfaction nor accompany me to Sam's. Frankly, that's creepy and intrusive. I simply want to be paid for the damage, at which point I'll happily release Parkside from any obligation, and I would deal directly with Sam's. It's my car and my business alone. Parkside then responded with an old schoolyard bully tactic--blame the victim. They implied that I was being dishonest, and granted themselves a $300 discount: They stated, "your insistence on being paid directly, led me to question the accuracy of your estimate. As a result, I consulted with my insurance company and I took the time to contact several auto body shops whose estimates were all in conflict with yours. The numbers I was given by three other shops range from $584.00 to $640.00 Therefore, it seems that we are left with the following options: -I can make a check payable to you for $650.00 for which I will still require you, upon payment to sign off as I previously requested on any further liability or obligation on my part. -Or you can deal directly with my insurance company. As our mutual goal here is to expedite both the repairs and the payment, these are the only terms I feel comfortable with." Not a word of apology, no attempt to discuss anything, just bullying, accusatory statements. " I will require", "these are the only terms I feel comfortable with"--that encapsulates Parkside's attitude. I have no obligation to use the cheapest shop, and the party that's at fault has no say in where the repairs will be made. Sam's Auto Body is well known, and the integrity of their estimate is easily verifiable. The funny thing is that Parkside's own labor rate is considerably higher than that of Sam's Auto Body. Parkside also forget that I was their customer and just paid them over $1,000 for less work than the body repair requires. I'm at a loss as to how to resolve this, since dialog is obviously not working. They said to use their insurance company, but provided no information about it - not even a name. I discussed it with two people. The first, my lawyer, said it's simply not worth suing for this amount. Then I spoke with is my wife's uncle, a priest. Though I'm not especially religious, I respect his spiritual point of view. He wrote me a note: "Don't judge. You don't know their troubles or what makes them behave this way. If they're not at peace, fighting won't help. Instead, forgive and pray for them. You may lose money, but you'll gain peace." I'm not sure that I'm going to actually pray for them, but that did give me a bit of perspective. It's true that I don't know their issues or motives. What I do know is that I have no room in my life for toxic people or bullying behavior, and that this event has been occupying way too much of my time and energy. I may not get compensated for the damage Parkside caused, but I also won't have to ruin the holidays by dealing with so much negative energy. If you want to use Parkside, you'll probably be fine, they're good mechanics. Just hope that nothing goes wrong. UPDATE: Today (12/9) I received Parkside's insurance information. Will update again if the situation changes. UPDATE 2: (1/4/16) Finally settled with insurance company. read more

These guys really are great...sometimes you read reviews that don't match your experience, but they definitely lived up to expectation. I took my 03' Jetta to them for an inspection, and air conditioner repair. On top of that, another mechanic (official VW service mechanic) had told us the car needed a new Catalytic Convertor and that it would fail inspection without it. We had a check engine light on due to that issue. The guys at Parkside took a look, and told me that all the car needed was a good oil change...which I was skeptical about but agreed to. It passed inspection and we have not seen that check engine light since. I will never go back to that official VW shop again, knowing they misdiagnosed the Cat. Parkside were honest with everything, and upfront about the costs. They are definitely my go to in Brooklyn. read more

Snowpocalypse 2016 was eminent. There was talk of school and business closings and all were waiting with baited breath for the incoming storm. Suddenly I realized we had basically no food at all, and worse yet, no beer. A trip to the grocery store was in need and stat, but much to my dismay my car would not start. I called for a tow but naturally it took an eternity for the driver to get to me as the rest of humanity was also on the road (most likely on food/beer runs) and by the time the tow got to Parkside it must have been close to 6pm. I was stressed, they close at 5 and I really try not to be *that* person. Charlie simply could not have been cooler about the situation and actually stayed at the shop waiting for my car. The next day bright and early (t minus 18 hours to snowmageddon) I got a call with all the details I needed and my car was roadworthy before noon. Groceries were had, beer was purchased and I was safely parked back at home before rush hour with plenty of time to spare.
