One of my favorite restaurants in Temecula! I've only had a few things here, but what I've had keeps me coming back when I'm in the area. One of my favorite foods is a Monte Cristo sandwich. I've been eating them since I was a kid, and it's difficult to find a place that does it well. Penfold's makes a great one, so that's almost always what I order when I'm here. Turkey and ham, plus American and Swiss cheese, which is made into a sandwich that is battered and fried. Traditional toppings are sour cream and jam, preferably raspberry or blackberry. So don't eat this unless you're a savory/sweet combo person! Worth the $1.50 to get the sour cream. I love that they have a sweet potato fry or onion ring upgrade for $1.00. I always choose sweet potato for the Monte Cristo, it's the best option. But I'll have to try the onion rings some time. There are tons of breakfast and lunch options, since they're only open til 2:00 everyday. They are also known for their bakery. Cinnamon or pecan rolls that are the size of a dinner plate! You have to slice them like a loaf of bread, lol. Also available are cookies, croissants, etc. Everything I've tried has been delicious. Staff is friendly and efficient, event when they're busy. My recent visit was at noon on a Wednesday, and I was all done in under 45 minutes! And the restaurant was pretty full, since it's only the one large room. Decor is fun, in the old-timey "why did grandma collect all this stuff?" motif, lol. Comfy booths around the perimeter with tables inside and a counter back left. And parking is fairly easy in the small shopping center, but you may have to park a little ways away if they're particularly busy. read more

Visited Temecula for the day, looked up reviews for a nice brunch spot to take our family that we were visiting. Came across Penfold's Cafe. I was Happy to see good reviews. When arriving it looked like one of those good ol' cafes that have been around for a while and loved by the locals. When walking in it's filled with nostalgia, classic toys lining the ceiling and classic booths and tables. This reminded me of a restaurant called Millie's Country Kitchen that was pretty popular when growing up. We showed up at a good time, the place was just filling up and we were greeted and seated immediately. Our server took care of us, she was attentive took our orders and brought our food out with no issues. The portion sizes here are HUGE. The food was ok. I was not impressed with my pancakes, maybe the batter was not my favorite I am not sure. Maybe I should have ordered something different but overall I enjoyed my visit here. I've been spoiled in my hometown with the local diners and amazing breakfasts so maybe I'd be a difficult person to please in this category. *breakfast snob* However nobody at our table had complaints about the food and we enjoyed our outing. Always looking for new places for my mom and I to go to lunch. Remembered hearing about Penfold's and was happy to find it wasn't in the heart of crowded old town Temecula but adjacent, with plentiful parking! The service was phenomenal, our server was a hustler and warm, efficient and quick. My mom had the Penfold's wrap which was HUGE. She said it was very good. I had the California Beef sandwich (not actual menu name, but couldn't remember it) and it was delicious. We both had the homemade potato chips. They were good and not salty. Penfold's Cafe is one of the best breakfast spots that I've ever been to. I'm definitely coming back when I'm in the area! We ordered the omelette and french toast combo and everything was delicious. Even the sourdough toast itself was yummy! I love the vintage decor vibe it has going on and the ambiance feels very cozy inside. It was a bit busy on the weekend, but our server was very nice. Also, there is a pretty good selection of Jellycats and toys! It was fun to see what kind of goodies they had to offer. We were looking for a good hearty meal before going wine tasting and came across Penfolds. From the moment we walked in, the place had a fun and welcoming atmosphere. They had all kinds of items for sale like stuffed animals, candy, shirts, and other gifts, plus fresh homemade pastries available to grab to-go. We were seated quickly and our waitress was prompt and attentive. They had a nice variety of both breakfast and lunch items to choose from, so there was something for everyone. The restaurant itself is bright, spacious, and has plenty of seating. I also loved the carousel horse on display. It gave the place a unique charm. The food tasted good and the portions were solid. This place needs no introduction, a local staple in the community that serves amazing breakfast and lunch! The cinnamon roll is the size of my outstretched hand! We got one to go, most people paying their bill did the same. We both got omelets with fresh fruit and a biscuit and gravy. All delicious and so much food we took 1/2 home. Savannah was awesome, she took great care of us and the people around us. What a great little spot with good food. Service is fantastic and prices are right. There's a little bakery display case as you walk in. My goodness!! I have never seen such giant cinnamon rolls and rice krispy bars! Didn't eat one but they look delicious. Then I saw the largest most delicious looking biscuits and gravy. Wednesday, Aug 6, 2025: My brother was visiting from San Diego and invited us (Hubby, me, daughter, & grandson) to eat here. It had been years since I was here. Back in the day my daughter was a waitress & hostess. They used to be open for dinner, which we truly miss! They are now only open for breakfast & lunch. Our server, Nancy, provided warm, friendly,and attentive service. My daughter knew Nancy from before and she is a very sweet lady! We all enjoyed our food. I had the turkey sandwich, which was good and filling. I forgot to take photos of everybody's food. Prices were reasonable for good portions. It's still so quaint and the food is still very good! Great little diner near Temecula hotels filled with tchotchkes and knick-knacks. I was in town for a friend's wedding and stopped here for breakfast, so it did the job of curing a hangover. I was feeling a Benedict, so I had to have the Crabby Benedict with a side of hash browns. Warm and delicious! We heard rumors of a gigantic cinnamon roll at Penfolds Cafe, so naturally we had to confirm if the rumor was true. Despite the Saturday morning chaos, we were seated instantly. Winning!! We immediately kicked things off w the giant cinnamon roll as an appetizer bc what better way to stimulate & ruin our appetites than to eat sweets before our actual meal!?!? This thing was the size of a toddler's head and absolutely drenched in melty, buttery goodness!! One cut and it oozed like a magical waterfall. We were basically in a frosting trance!!!! Then came the "real" food I got the Machaca plate, Hubby got the NY Steak & Eggs. And whew...that steak was thick!!! Major kudos to our server Skyler.... super friendly, funny, and made us feel welcomed and treated us like cinnamon roll royalty. Prices are totally reasonable. We stumbled upon this place and really happy we did. Such a fun, quirky diner, filled with memorabilia. It's hard to take pics inside as it's filled with patrons and I wanted to respect their privacy, but trust me, there's so much to stare at inside, We were greeted by friendly staff upon entering. We were quoted a 20-30 minute wait for a table inside as it was 106 degrees outside, but there's misters outside if you can brave the heat. Nonetheless; we were sat in 15 minutes so not long at all, Our server was super friendly and apologized a few times bc the food was taking long to come out. The giant cinnamon roll caught my eye so you know I had to get it. It was HUGE, ooey gooey delicious and only $9. The Penfold omelette was really good, extra cheesy so if you like cheese, get it. I would ask for the gravy on the side so you can add as you go. I would've liked more bacon, but it definitely had a ton of sausage. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly. Biscuits and gravy were HUGE! Hubby's California breakfast burrito was delicious , topped with a red enchilada sauce, cheese, avocado and sour cream. We were in town for a trip at the end of Feb and beginning of March and decided to order in for brunch, so we ordered and ate back in our hotel room. We ordered chicken fried steak, the giant cinnamon roll, an omlette, and french toast. The chicken fried steak was burnt, dry, and bland. The cinnamon roll was dry and tasted almost day old. My family sometimes meets here for late breakfast as it's sort of halfway between where they live and San Diego. The location is super close to the freeway, making it simple to access. There's a good amount of parking in the lot, especially if you're willing to walk a little farther from restaurant. The restaurant itself is clean and has ample seating. I was tempted to buy one of the rubber chickens they sell in the lobby, maybe next time. The menu is pretty large, seems like a lot of choices for even the picky eaters in your party. They have every kind of breakfast option covered, and a wide selection of lunch dishes too. The omelettes are great, plus you get a choice of potato options and a bread item. I haven't finished anything here, the servings are large, but you can take home leftovers for the next day. They also have the largest selection of juices I've ever encountered in a restaurant. The service is good, everyone has been friendly and helpful with recommendations. We have a couple picky eaters who love the food here, so it's definitely kid friendly. read more

We came here on a Sunday morning around 10 AM. When we pulled up there were customers waiting outside which means we knew that we are probably going to have some really good food. The hostesses were very friendly. We waited about 15 minutes and the sat outside, which was great because it was a beautiful day in Temecula. We ordered the Baja omelette, Nachos off of the appetizer menu and added chicken and the Macaroni and cheese with a side of fruit off of the kids menu. Regina was our waitress and she was really friendly. It did take a little while for our food to get there, but that was expected because of it being a Sunday morning. The Baja omelette was delicious. The nachos were definitely not traditional, but had really good flavor once I added the salsa on it. Sidenote, ask for salsa on the side. My child finished the mac & cheese and most of the fruit. Wow! The prices and the sizes & the service and the food!!!! SUCH A GREAT DEAL! So good! You don't feel heavy or that you're really eating a lot of oil or anything. Everything about it was fantastic so the food was so big and the servings were so big that I ended up just getting two things and I was gonna get three initially but there's no way could possibly finish it. So this is fantastic for families. It's great for a date spot! I can't wait to bring my dad here! That's just the food. Service was fantastic personable helpful fast extremely fast! The decor is nostalgic but not Gotti. Honestly this place is an experience. It almost gave me tears a couple times because I'm seeing things I haven't seen since I was a little kid! We went decades ago and are happy to be going back. We have been twice in the last month and are so happy it is still such a great place. The food is really good. The portion sizes are fair and more than enough. My wife is so picky about her eggs and bacon. Most places she is often disappointed. Here, her bacon was extra crispy and her eggs were scrambled "very well". A phrase I have been hearing forever. She is always so happy when her food arrives. I have been trying the different omelette dishes and really prefer to build my own. They have a myriad of ingredients to add and it is reasonably priced. Don't miss this place. read more

My husband and I have eaten here many times throughout the years.  We usually have breakfast before a day of wine tasting in Temecula.  This time, we stopped for lunch.  We ordered a turkey sandwich to split since we weren't that hungry.  The server brought us a BLT sandwich.  We called her over, and she apologized.  She brought out our turkey sandwich a few minutes later.  The bread wasn't toasted.  It was old and stale.  In fact, it cracked before I even finished my sandwich.  The homemade chips were hit and miss.  Some were crispy and delicious while others weren't cooked enough and were soggy in the middle.  We were very disappointed in our lunch and probably won't go back. read more

Best cafe I've been to in a long time. My sourdough cheeseburger was fantastic and so were the fries. We also took home an apple and cherry pies. Penfold's Café is conveniently located off the Rancho California Rd offramp and has ample parking. It is in easy walking distance of the Old Town shops. As you can see from my inside pic, it has a homey/nostalgia décor. Our waitress was incredibly observant and efficient. You can pay new school, via a VR code and pay apps, or old school at the front register. We started with their Granola Sundae (no ice cream - just Greek yogurt). You can see from my pic the generous amounts of goodies in this Sundae: fresh fruit and crunchy granola. It tasted as refreshing as it looks. Not to be out done with healthiness, we shared their Corned Beef Hash and Eggs (BTW it came with 3 eggs). As you can see in my pic, my eggs came as ordered. The corned beef had that requisite tang and I loved the crunch of it being browned. Their seasoned home potatoes were good. The right mix of peppers and cubed potatoes with ample season salt. This restaurant was the best way to end our Temecula vacation. Comfort food always hits the spot after a weekend of drinking wine. I called ahead and asked if we can order lunch items at breakfast time and was told yes. Score! I grow tired of eggs and prefer lunch menus. Ambiance is that of a classic diner. My husband and I split the tuna melt with potato salad and the Ortega melt with housemade chips. Both were fantastic, but I'd have to say the Ortega melt with chips stole the show. I love thick strips of Ortega chile, and this sandwich was so flavorful. On the way out, I fell in love with the stuffed animals, and got myself a pineapple plush.
