So I drove all the way from Bartlett to Pen Thai and I will say: it was well worth the mileage and the gas. It was my son's 13th Birthday and he loves Thai food. The restaurants in the area that we normally order from either no longer serve pad Thai or the dish has declined in quality. Don't go anywhere else! Visiting from out of town and our friends brought us here. They've spoken so highly about this place and I completely understand why! The service was great and the owners and chefs are extremely kind and friendly. I honestly wish I could eat here every single day. But I settle for once every couple weeks. Their Thai Iced Coffee is like heaven in a glass. For appetizers, we usually order Crab Rangoons, Chicken Satay, or Gyoza. All three are phenomenal! My two favorites dishes are the Pad Kee-Mao noodles and the Panang Curry, both of which I order with chicken. On their 0-5 spice scale, I usually order a 4. Sometimes 5 if I really want to sweat it out. Pick-up is quick, and their service is amazing if you're choosing to dine in! I haven't found another Thai place nearby that can compare to Pen Thai! Nothing worse than when you order online and when you get there they never got your order. Also the people that were working were really nice and welcoming. I ordered pad Thai with tofu (no spicy but next time I think I'll get spicy), calamari - so crispy more like an onion ring, shrimp rolls - so crispy so good with the sauce, and goyza. The food is so dry and taste nothing like thai food. So disappointing especially since it was for mothers day lunch with my mom. Maybe it's cuz I'm not from around here and I'm used to better food, but I'm not quite sure why this restaurant has the high ratings it does. I found the food mediocre, the prices not high but not cheap, & the service insistent and very rude. "Official Pen Thai - sushi" (I believe) is their proper name on the web. Smallish Thai food eatery found in a strip mall around the corner from the Rosati's if you are familiar with the area. The cozy sit down offers lunch specials on weekdays which are priced around $9, which also tends to be normal for the area. It is served with soup and "appetizer of the day."(Find advertising and menu for lunch specials on Google images, I wasn't able to find a direct link using the restaurant's information.) Their lunch special is composed of Thai noodles or rice dishes. Unfortunately they don't offer any sushi or bento box meal deals. So the other day I was to meet a friend for lunch and whilst looking for a Thai option this popped up. I placed orders for two lunch specials and an order of their Takoyaki. (Crispy octopus puffs top with dried bonito flakes, seaweed, mayo sweet brown sauce and sesame seeds. You get 6 pieces, for the price it's great.) I have tasted this at other sushi/Thai joints. When served fresh in the restaurant, it's 'key' because it is crispy and may have a crunch with the first bite. Based on concept and flavors, it was the same, but due to being a carryout order the puffs had gotten "smooshy." I would bet not everyone would enjoy eating it that way and may think it has not been fully cooked. The food (in-all) was decent. I asked for differing spice levels which didn't quite meet expectations. If ordering in the future, I'd probably ask for a significant level of spice. Second takeaway, whichever protein is chosen (for the lunch special), it seems it is added at the end and tossed with whatever entree is being ordered. The meat in this case; be it chicken or shrimp was not coated in the sauce or seasonings. In one noodle dish the chicken was dry and desperately needed moisture. A sauce of some kind would have tied the meal together. I wonder now if I'd had the opportunity to sit and eat at the restaurant, whether the quality of freshness would have been perfect. For the cost; food was ample, tasty and presentable. For those reasons I would more than likely check them out again. read more

we've been to this place several times since it's so close to us. more recently when we ordered during covid, we ordered via delivery/pick up app and waited forever for the food to be done. their excuse was that they were overwhelmed with orders but offered no apology for the 1 hr wait inside the restaurant. we were a little bitter and vowed never to go back again but the food was just too good. their pad see ewe was a huge burst of flavor and their penang curry with half fried noodle was just so freakin delicious!! my hubs doesn't usually care for curries but he loved it so much their service obviously needs improvement but food was excellent read more

Well if your craving Thai food this place is a great stop it's located in mt prospect in a little storefront area and it is absolutely bomb I had the Pad Kee-mao Level 4 spicy (very spicy) and it was perfect the spice didn't take away from the flavor and the spices and basil cools it down perfectly I also asked if they can make my order quickly as I was in rush I literally sat down for about 3 minutes flat before they had my order served seriously impressive I also ordered a Thai iced coffee on the way out and it is some of the best I've had 10/10 highly recommend this place read more

This is the one. I've been searching for my Thai spot since for 6 years now. Ive tried 4 dishes this week, all were fantastic. Panang curry was spot on. You can choose spice level 1-5 for any dish and 3 was perfect for me. Pad woonsen was flavorful and full of fresh veggies. This used to be a different Thai place and we learned that it was bought out by different owners who are just as nice and customer-service friendly. Unfortunately, the food is just meh. we came here for lunch and we started out with a small egg roll and soup which were delicious . I had pad see yu and it was ok and also the Thai fried rice with beef. That was just ok too. It was just missing depth of flavor and both dishes tasted kinda bland for Thai food. I'd probably try it again but I certainly wouldn't rush back here. I also wish they'd turn down the obnoxious Asian karaoke pop music blaring in the background. All we heard was a Asian Rihanna singing horrible songs and also a flat screen television with a golf game in the background. This place is the real deal - the food quenched my craving for authentic Thai food. HALLELUJAH! Anyone who is a Thai food aficionado will be pleased with this restaurant. I ordered pad see ew with extra vegetables and it only took one bite for me to be impressed. The red curry was equally delish. And the Tom kha soup had ALL the ingredients which make it Tom kha: galanga root, straw mushrooms, ginger, coconut milk, cilantro, lemongrass, onion and jalapeño. I haven't been able to find authentic Tom kha soup anywhere in the suburbs - until TODAY! It is run by a Thai family who learned how to cook in Thailand! WOW. I am a new regular here. read more
