You can't go wrong with a small, locally owned restaurant. My friend and I decided to give it a try, and I must say, it's one of the best Thai places I've ever been to in Illinois. The food is simply amazing! The quality and flavors are at the best I've ever experienced. The prices are also incredibly reasonable, making it a great value for money. It reminded me of the delicious Thai food I had when I visited Thailand in my younger days. The service was good, although I did feel a bit rushed since there was only one waitress. However, the food was worth the wait, so it wasn't a major issue. The ambiance was great. The decor was warm and welcoming, and it reminded me of the restaurants I used to love back in the day. It was a refreshing change from the modern, sterile restaurants that are so common these days. Overall, I highly recommend this hidden gem. It's a must-try for anyone who loves Thai food. read more

Stopped in because of decent Google Review (lies) for Thai thst was close to my current location. Divey strip mall location with maybe seating for 25-30 people tops. Ambiance was lacking as much as the cushions in the booths... who covers wood over with vinyl and does not bother to stuff the vinyl? Food was overpriced for mediocre flavor and its slow and basic presentation... the Pad Khee Mao with Chicken ordered... was the absolute worst I have ever experienced. Who pointd at red pepper flakes and call that red pepper? Or I piece of diced baby corn in the same shade of beige as the tiny random bean sprouts to show there are vegetables? read more

Very nice place for Thai food bit the server was not at all helpful or kind when we ordered Sparce but nice decor, this restaurant is kept spotless with the exception of the artificial plastic plants that set off my dust mite allergy One booth and several half booths available for dine-in, however this appears to be primarily a take-out place The music (which is soft pop, not at all Thai in nature) was far too loud. We had to elevate our voices loudly in order to have a conversation I am not certain if Pen Thai even serves alcohol but there is signage in the restrooms that the Mount Prospect police will come and pick you up if you appear to be not sober (weird) The food was only 3-stars and one of our items was incorrect and came with peanut the first time read more

I visited Pen Thai for lunch back in August. The service was good. I got a Thai iced tea and yellow curry at the 4 spice level. The Thai tea was delicious. It was strong and had enough milk. The yellow curry was delicious. I was happy with the spiciness. The only critique I have about the curry was that there wasn't enough potato in it. Overall, I liked this restaurant and I would not hesitate to visit again. read more

Just a little update to let y'all know that this place continues to deliver on flavor and atmosphere. Thai food isn't something I crave often, but I love it every time I have it. I went back yesterday, Monday evening for dinner. My friend and I got the papaya salad, pad kee-mao with chicken, and red curry with tofu all at spice level 3. We both love spicy food, but Thai spice brings the heat! It's so addictive and delicious, but honestly, I think I'll stick with level 2 next time because the heat was still perfect the last time I tried it. Service was quick and everything was so tasty. The value of all the items was affordable compared to other Thai places I've been to. Thankful for this small gem of a spot so close to home! read more

The food... it was ok at best. I was excited to hear they have masaman curry but it was very watery and flavorless and the pad see eww was just that ... ewww. Plus it taste's burnt.Like I always say check this place out you might like it! read more

The food was SO good and the service was too! We will definitely go back next time we're in town. My husband ordered Panang Curry with tofu and I ordered Pad Pen Catfish. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The music was not too loud and we could have a nice conversation. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't been before. read more

Really great food! We came in at around 6pm on a Thursday. There was plenty of room, but it certainly wasn't empty. The service was a little bit slow, but the flavor and variety of the meal options made up for that! We got Veggie Soup, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Pad Kee Mao. Flavors were balanced, spice levels were high (in a good way), and portion sizes were nice... not overwhelming, but definitely sufficient! All accounted for, we would definitely come again. Looking forward to trying their pad Thai and curries! read more

PenThai is our go-to Thai restaurant; we probably eat here at least a few times a month. It doesn't hurt that the restaurant is only a few blocks away from our house, so that makes it easy for us to order takeout any old time. They are also open every single day, and thus available whenever the craving for Thai food hits. Service is always friendly and hospitable. Because they are so dependable, we have a tendency to bring visiting friends and family to dine in. On the most recent occasion, we had a very picky toddler with us, and the staff noticed she wasn't eating and brought an off-menu item to better cater to her bland palate. That was very kind! For the rest of us who enjoy flavor in our food ;) the regular restaurant menu has a lot to offer. My usual orders are the Panang Curry or the Beef Salad. My husband can be wary of spicy food, so he usual opts for the Pineapple Fried Rice. Of course, you can always order a tasty Thai Iced Tea to help mellow out any dish. read more

First from out of town looking for great Thai food and we did find that here , clean and great food , I had yellow curry, med heat so good , taste on point .although I thought it would have more veggies like a carrots or two other than just a whole onion, lol and potatoes, I get it everyone makes it different , but I added tofu. Now for the reason why not giving it a 5 star , and maybe just me but an employee sat down and took his shoes off and socks 1/2 way off and began picking and rubbing his feet , gross , I'm sorry that's just gross , all I could think of is my food . I ended up taking my food Togo I couldn't eat any more , but will not eat my Togo . Not even sure why I wanted it Togo . I'm not going to get it . They can say he wasn't an employee but when taking to staff and going in back with staff behind the doors still taking well maybe he should be there . Again food was great just lost my appetite. read more

The food is so good! Take out was super smooth and perfect spice level. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

We have been patrons for years. Eating in has been fine but delivered food is mediocre. Main course of Duck Curry last night had very few small chewy pieces of duck. I've had this dish at other Thai with much more and tender pieces of duck but you won't find that here. I would choose some other protein with this spicy red curry, not the skimpy duck version. Shrimp app was OK. Satay chicken a bit tough also. read more

We've been loyal customers of Pen Thai for years, ordering from them at least twice a month. The food has always been delicious and consistent - which kept us coming back for more! Unfortunately, tonight's experience left us deeply disappointed. While eating an order delivered via UberEats, I discovered a dead cockroach in my orange chicken. As much as we've loved and supported this restaurant, this is a serious health and safety concern. I truly hope this is an isolated incident and that it's taken seriously and investigated. We've always considered this spot a go-to, but food safety has to come first. I'm genuinely so sad to write this & will always have a special place in my heart for PT. 3 stars for all of the amazing meals we've had over the years. So bummed. read more

Delicious fast and clean. We got a dish that was super spicy and wasn't supposed to be, although that was also delicious.

A good local Thai restaurant! The food is tasty with fresh ingredients! I personally like their green curry and Pad Kee Mao! My husband loves their Pen Thai Fried Rice! I have dined in and gotten carry out from this restaurant. I personally feel that their food tasted the same for both occasions. When I dined in, there is only one person who will seat you at your table, get your order, serve you water and your food, and provide you the bill. Personally, I felt the service provided was done smoothly and all of our needs were met. The restaurant had a cozy feel. read more

I've been ordering delivery from Pen Thai for what seems like a while now, so I think a review is in order. I ate here once in person and it was clean inside and we were sat quickly despite the place being very busy. And there's a reason it's very busy, because the food here is fantastic. I've had quite a few items so I will detail my favorite dishes. Shrimp Shumai dumplings A+ unbelievably good Pen Thai egg roll B-/C+ these are fine better items IMO Chicken Satay A-/B+ love the peanut sauce Fresh spring rolls A+ fresh and fantastic Tom Yum soup B, it's good but I've had better Tom Yum elsewhere and think there are better menu items Pad Thai A- excellent here, not the best I've ever had but I do appreciate the spice level and it's definitely the best I've had in this area Spicy Duck Basil A- really good dish, very well made, great flavor and unique! Want to try something new? This is a great pick! Orange Chicken A+ if you order it my way haha, ask for medium spicy and expect a kick! Keep up the great work Pen Thai 5/5 from me. read more

One of the best Thai food I've had in a while. We were of us and all of us were like this food is so good. So we were coming from Vernon hills to Arlington heights and on the way there my wife wanted to eat Thai food. And I was like it is south of where we wanted to go but I was like Lets do it since it is a 5 star restaurant with no food violation. Went there it was open seating which made me believe even more they care about the food than being fancy. 5 stars for keeping the place clean, the flavor in green curry was the best I have had in Illinois area by far. Loved those crab Rangoon and spring roll. My wife loved her panang curry with tofu and kug pao tofu Would love to visit them again. read more

My boyfriend and I hadn't had Thai Food since we left Texas & found this cute little Thai restaurant in the area(we scrolled through the reviews) & decided to dine in. When we walked in- the place was very spacey, had multiple tables but it was a bit empty. However we know most small business/restaurants are suffering due to COVID. As soon as we walked in the server sat us right down & brought a menu/water over to us. They had music playing but we noticed that they also had Mike Wiens food vlogs playing on their big main TV, so we asked if they could play that out loud instead.. which the server was very nice about and did! It made our date feel even more homey in a way. They brought out complementary beef dumplings while we waited for our food, which were very warm, crispy on the outside but very savory! We ordered 2 Thai Teas, Tom Kha Soup, Pad See Ew(Spice Level 3), and a Basil Fried Rice(Spice Level 4). Most Thai places typically have spice level options, so just make sure to mention the amount of spice you'd like! We love our food spicy so if you do too I'd recommend doing spice level 3 or 4!! The Thai tea was a 10/10!!! It was more on the sweet side but with the ice and everything, it tasted so refreshing. Pad See Ew & the basil fried rice had such great flavors and were cooked just right so the texture was amazing! The portions were huge so we had a lot of fried rice left over to take home! One of the owners came out & had a conversation with us towards the end of our lunch which made the food & overall experience even better! For how great the food is, the prices are amazing!!!!We will definitely be back! read more

Not great but I'll comment on just one thing. Most of the dishes - even the soups, noodle dishes and curries - seemed to have a lot of sugar. Way too sweet. And why do they need sugar in soup and noddle dishes and curries (I'm not certain that there was sugar but it sure tasted like it). read more

I placed an order online for pick up on a weekend night for Yum Woonsen, crab rangoons, shrimp tempura, Thai iced tea. Pick up was super quick because my order was ready right at the time I requested. I loved everything I ordered especially the yum woonsen and the crab rangoons. The yum woonsen had so much flavor, chicken, and fresh vegetables. I ordered it with 3** spicy level which was a little too spicy for me but I couldn't stop eating it anyway because it was that good. I also loved the flakiness of the crab rangoons and they had a generous amount of filling. read more

Tom yum soup: very aromatic. You can smell the Galangal and lemongrass. It was spicy, but not overpowering. It was decent. I would probably get it again. Pad see ew: I typically prefer this over pad Thai cause I like the bigger noodle. The sauce was a little on the sweeter side for me. My boyfriend liked it more than me though. Green curry: I've had a good amount of green curries from varies places. I'm not sure if this is my favorite yet LOL it's creamy and coconuty but not too rich. The spice sneaks up on you. I thought maybe it was the hot soup and hot rice that brought up the spice. It was one of those lingering spice, but keeps you want to eat more because of the sweet coconut broth. Our waitress was really nice. They have a lot of take out orders, like the phone kept ringing and people kept coming in. We will most likely be back to try other menu itemsz read more

I'm pretty picky with Thai food and this place is really sooooooo good. I love their pad thai, Pad see ew, and thai red curry.
