Well, I came here for my lunch many times in the past, but didn't have a chance to write review for it. This place is pretty much more to go than eat-in. Because they have only 3 tables. The food gets better since they have new owner. I ordered the beef Lo mien lunch special, and it came with egg roll. The price was reasonable for the amount of food. It was a bit so weird dish, be came with half noodle and half fried rice. However, the fried rice was much less oily than other Chinese food to do place. But the noodles are a bit salty in my opinion. Very friendly owner. I will have another review with other dishes.

The lunch combo is perfect, great price, great service. The place is definitely for takeout only. Highly recommended the Mongolian beef.

My wife, her mom, and I were in Chicago to remember my father-in-law's death anniversary, and my sister-in-law chose Chef Ping's, for our party of nine for a Wednesday lunch. Parking is plentiful and the dining area can seat a lot. We got seated at a large round table in the back room, with a large lazy susan (just need to remember to spin it very slowly). We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. I was the only one to eat it, so ended up being my main dish. It was good, with thick noodles...just wish it had more seafood. Salt & Pepper Smelt ($16.90) - not sure if always available, but this was excellent...my favorite dish and one that I finished once I realized that everybody had their fill. It really depends on the quality of the smelt, which was excellent in this case. It was lightly battered, and carefully deep fried. Other dishes enjoyed by others: 2 Salt & Pepper Prawns - $35.90 - large head-on shell-on prawns fire wokked. Salt & Pepper Tofu ($11.50) - for the vegetarians Chicken Skewers (4) - $8.75 - tender and shareable Walnut Shrimp ($19.90) - mayo with shrimp Young Chow Fried Rice ($12.50) - fried rice is a necessity for our group Mongolian Beef ($17.50) - a classic 2 Sesame Ball (4) - $7 - a great way to finish a meal. 18% tip was automatically added, and service was OK throughout. Our water was kept refilled, and I think hot water was as well. It was a good meal and opportunity to get back together

Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!

And if you know, you know... they've inherited the iconic recipes from the late-night eats of 554 so the flavors are legit. My kids are obsessed with their soup -- like, quiet-at-the-table obsessed I personally love the chicken wings and tofu (both packed with flavor), and their chicken noodles are such a comforting go-to. You already know a spot is good when the line for to-go orders is literally out the door... and this place delivers every time. Definitely adding this into our regular rotation with the kids

Wonton Gourmet gets 5 stars for the food but 1 star for the service…read more We've been here many times, and just about every time we get the same waitress. If you've been here, you'd know exactly who I'm taking about. Not very friendly, speaks extremely fast, and often doesn't seem to fully pay attention to the order. Case in point: on our last visit, my wife ordered beef stew with wontons, but the dish came out with just wontons--no beef. When we pointed out the mistake, the waitress returned with a small bowl of beef stew on the side. Now I'm no chef, but you can't just pour a small bowl of beef stew into already-made wonton soup and suddenly have it become the dish that was originally ordered. The beef stew soup base is completely different from regular wonton soup. My wife was hungry and didn't want to wait longer for a remake, so she just ate it. You would think that after a mistake like that they might comp the dish or offer a small discount, but instead they charged us extra for the small bowl of beef stew. I honestly couldn't help but laugh. That said, it's hard to find a really good bowl of wontons in the suburbs, so we'll probably still be back--just hoping the mediocre service eventually improves. Not to be all negative--the food is really good. Our go-to is the wonton noodle soup with the flat wide noodles. Their sesame chicken is my kids' favorite along with the fried wontons. My wife loves the beef stew with wontons (when they get the order right). They also have the "554" with eggs, char siu, and rice, a staple of an old Chinatown spot Seven Treasures. So yeah, the food is excellent... you just might have to solve a small mystery first to see if your order arrives the way you asked for it.

It's been a tough lately since our go to place changed ownership and the quality declined. Hong Kong Restaurant is a small, family owned restaurant in the same strip mall as the Ace Hardware. It's a take out only restaurant, no tables and no seating. The lady is so nice. I called ahead asking how her General Tso's was made with brown sauce or if it was an orange type of sauce. She gave me a good description and mentioning it had some spice to it, but not offensive. It was exactly what my husband wanted. It wasn't overly breaded and the sauce was sweeter, savory with a little heat. He was a happy man. The fried rice had plenty of chicken and cooked well. The portions were huge! I also ordered beef and broccoli Cantonese chow mein. This was delicious! There was so much beef and broccoli, the sauce wasn't salty and went perfect with the chow mein noodles. We ordered egg rolls and crab rangoons too. Both we were good. The wrapper was a little thicker than I prefer, but they were both good. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes on their menu like their egg foo yung. No pics ... hungry teenaged boys dove into the food right away.
